John C. Becker

Services for John C. Becker, 84, of Palestine were at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Herrington/Land of Memory Chapel with the Revs. Dan Bubach and Sam Cox officiating. Burial will follow at Land of Memory Cemetery.
Mr. Becker died Sunday morning at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
He was born July 15, 1919, in Montalba to Anton and Elizabeth Heber Becker.
Mr. Becker lived all of his life in Anderson County. He was a member of First Christian Church of Palestine.
He graduated from the Montalba school system and served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Dutch New Guinea for 18 months. He was a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3907 of Palestine. He was retired and had worked at Knox Glass plant in Palestine from 1946 to 1981.
Mr. Becker was preceded in death by son, James C. Becker, in August 1970; brother, Mike Becker; and sisters, Eva Becker and Anna Owens.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elda Becker of Palestine; daughter, Janet M. Becker of Houston; brother, Joe T. Becker and wife Jessie of Tyler; extended family, Beth and Clyce Marshall of Palestine; grandson, James C. Becker II and wife Amey of Arlington; several nieces and nephews and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Pallbearers will be Bascom Bentley, C.C. Clifton, Ron Robb, Mike Morris, Matt Tokarczyk and Cliff Johnston. Honorary pallbearers will be Clyce Marshall, Steve Branson, John Lamb, Bill Gilbert, Joe Guerro and the E.V. Swift Sunday School class at First Christian Church.
Memorials may be made to the E.V. Swift Sunday School class at First Christian Church of Palestine.
Helen Waters Chambers

Services for Helen Waters Chambers, 73, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Gardner officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Mrs. Chambers died Thursday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 31, 1930 in Palestine to the late John Waters and Annie B. Griggs McKee.
Mrs. Chambers was preceded in death by her parents; husband Willie Chambers; son, Clarence Waters; sister, Mary Lois Evans; aunts, Lou Ester Johnson and Lizzie Mae Johnson; uncles, Arthur Griggs, Sam Griggs, Buddy Waters and Roy Waters.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Mildred Waters of Palestine; adopted nieces, Patricia A. Jennings of California and Loretta M. Jones of Montana; and several cousins and friends.
Pallbearers will be Joe Henry Deckard, Johnnie Reed, Arthur Runnels Sr. and Arthur Runnels Jr.
Billie J. Harris

Graveside services for Billie J. Harris, 69, of Lindale will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Land of Memory Cemetery with the Rev. John LaNoue officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Home.
Mrs. Harris died Sunday in a Tyler hospital.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight.
Phyllis Commander

Mrs. Commander died Monday at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler.

Services for Arnold Odelle DeBruhl Jr., 77, of Palestine will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Zacharias Kunnakkattathura officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mr. DeBruhl died Tuesday in Palestine.
He was born July 7, 1926, in San Antonio, to Arnold and Elvira Giraud DeBruhl.
Mr. DeBruhl was a descendant of two of the original 14 Canary Island families that settled in San Antonio.
He graduated from Lamar High School in Houston and attended the University of Houston. He served in the Navy during World War II and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3907. He retired from Union Pacific Railroad where he was a signal and communications supervisor.
Mr. DeBruhl was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Florence DeBruhl, on Jan. 14, 2004.
He is survived by his son, Joseph DeBruhl of Spring; stepdaughter, Debra Corpora and husband Sam of Hearne; stepson, Ed Boswell and wife Laura of Strong, Ark.; sister, Marjorie Finnegan of Houston; grandchildren, Matt and Cara Corpora, Tray and Jason Boswell, Genie Langston, and Allyson and Mason DeBruhl; great-grandchild, Anna Langston; two nieces; many wonderful neighbors and friends; and his beloved dog, Mindy.
Pallbearers will be Matt Corpora, Tray Boswell, Jason Boswell, Larry Loney, Keith Florence and Walter Evans.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of East Texas, 4101 University Blvd., Tyler, Texas 75701.
A Rosary will be read at 7 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Grissom died Wednesday morning in Palestine.

Services for Martha Calcote Sheridan, 67, of Port Arthur will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pilgrim Cemetery in Elkhart under the direction of Levingston Funeral Home in Groves.
Mrs. Sheridan died Thursday at her residence.
She was a native of Palestine and a resident of Port Arthur for 48 years. She was a sales clerk for 10 years at JC Penney and a member of Stonegate Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sherry Hales.
Mrs. Sheridan is survived by her husband, Jerry Sheridan of Port Arthur; daughter, Beverly Myer and husband Steve of Houston; brothers, Howard Calcote and wife Althea and A.B. Calcote and wife Mildred, all of Palestine; grandchildren, Lacey Myer of Houston, Lynn Hales of Nashville, Tenn., Heather Hales of Houston, Isla Hales, Holly Hales, Andrew Hales and Kyle Hales, all of Port Arthur.

Services for Marilyn Landers, 70, of Tyler will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Burks-Walker-Tippit Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Rousseau officiating. Burial will follow at Tyler Memorial Park.
Mrs. Landers died Wednesday at a Hospice facility in Tyler.
She was born March 2, 1933, in Tennessee Colony.
Mrs. Landers lived in Palestine prior to moving to Tyler seven years ago. She was a member of First Christian Church of Palestine. She was employed with East Texas Diagnostic Clinic as a secretary.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Guy William and Mary Lucile Dupuy Keeling.
Mrs. Landers is survived by sons, Hunter Dietz of Arlington and Bryan Dietz of Irving; daughters, Denise Starcher of Irving, Jan Landers of Colorado and Gina Dean of Tyler; brother, Guy Keeling of Dallas; sister, Carol Carson of Tyler; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jared Starcher, John Dietz, Andrew Dietz, Paul Dean and Sarah Dean.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

Services for Mildred M. Hammond Bell, 87, of Palestine, and formerly of Jewett, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Ricks-Bowers Funeral Home Chapel in Jewett with the Rev. James Engle officiating. Burial will follow in Sardis Cemetery.
Mrs. Bell died Wednesday at Cartmell Home for Aged.
She was a Baptist. She was a manger for an office supply store.
Mrs. Bell is survived by her brother, Thomas O. Hammond of Palestine; sisters, Lozelle Bohlt of Palestine and Mary Rozsics of Austin; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
A visitation will be held until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 8 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday.
Bernice E. Baker
