Bess J. Campbell
Nov. 6, 1923 — Aug. 24, 2000

SOMERVILLE — A memorial service for Bess J. Campbell, 76, of Somerville is set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville. The Rev. Mark Pederson of First United Methodist Church of Somerville will officiate.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. until the service time on Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Campbell died Thursday at Trinity Health Care Center in Brenham.

She was born in Temple, Texas. She attended high school in Bellville, Texas. She worked as an administrative assistant in the Texas Forest Service for 33 years. She served on research committees for Texas A&M University and the United Way in Washington County. She had served on the Somerville Independent School District Board of Trustees for many years and was a council member for the city of Somerville for seven years. She was the treasurer for Oaklawn Cemetery Association, a member of the Somerville Chapter 245 of Order of the Eastern Star, and an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Somerville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stamps Campbell Jr. and longtime companion, Ernest Campbell Sr.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Edwin Jr. and Gloria Campbell of El Campo, Texas, and Jack Stamps and Angela Campbell of Lumberton; Texas; one daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Barney McCorkle of Somerville; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild and one step-grandson and one step-granddaughter.

Memorials may be made to Chapter 245 of Order of the Eastern Star, Oaklawn Cemetery Association or First United Methodist Church of Somerville.

Philip Neer Campbell
March 20, 1944 — Aug. 23, 2000

MADISONVILLE — Services for Philip Neer Campbell, 56, of Madisonville are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at the North Madison Church of Christ. Lanier Stevens of North Madison Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will be on the 7 J Ranch, east of Midway, Texas.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Madisonville Funeral home.

Mr. Campbell died Wednesday at home.

He was born in Dodge City, Kan. He worked at the 7 J Ranch as general manager for 32 years. He graduated from Eastern New Mexico University and Texas Tech University.

Survivors include his mother, Marie Campbell of Portales, N.M., two sons and a daughter-in-law, John and Martye Campbell of Midland and Kyle Campbell of Pacific Grove, Calif.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandi and Wayne Tucker of Salado, Texas, and Kristi and Mike Wilkinson of Bryan; three brothers, John Campbell of Los Alamos, N.M., Tom Campbell of Portales, N.M., and Bill Campbell of Dallas; and five grandchildren.

Dewey A. Imhoff
Feb. 22, 1941 — Aug. 15, 2000

TUCSON, Ariz. — Services for Dewey A. Imhoff, 59, of Tucson, formerly of Navasota, are set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Plantersville, Texas. The Rev. Edward C. Kucera of St. Mary’s Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Navasota.

A vigil will be 7 p.m. Friday at Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota.

Mr. Imhoff died in Tucson.

He was born in Houston and was a truck driver.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Frances Christina and Nick Bowden of Oklahoma City; five brothers and four sisters-in-law, George Fred and Natalie Imhoff Jr., of Stroud, Okla., James R. Imhoff of Plantersville, Hal and Barbara Imhoff of Navasota, Wayne and Georgia Imhoff and Gerald and Carol Imhoff, all of Plantersville; his mother, Verna Imhoff of Plantersville, two grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Jeannette Mary Astle
Feb. 17, 1911 — Aug. 24, 2000

Services for Jeannette Mary Astle, 89, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Monday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

The Rev. Bob Richers of the First United Methodist Church in Bryan will officiate. Burial will be in Bryan City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday and from 8 a.m. to the time of the services Monday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Astle died Thursday in Houston.

She was born in Hunter, Okla., and lived in Bryan since 1985. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bryan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Darwin.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Patsy Astle of Bryan; a daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Tom Brown of Houston; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Cynthia D. Bracewell
March 29, 1961 — Aug. 23, 2000

SOMERVILLE — Services for Cynthia D. Bracewell, 39, of Temple, Texas, are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville.

The Rev. Joel Withem will officiate. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to the time of the services Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Bracewell died Wednesday in Scott & White Hospital in Temple.

She was born in Conroe, Texas, and was a former resident of Somerville. She was a licensed vocational nurse and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Somerville and also attended New Life Church in Bryan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Karl Bracewell.

Survivors include a daughter, Vanessa Renee Esparza of Bryan; a son, Devon Richard Land of Bryan; her mother, Mary Lue Griffin of Temple; a sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Michael Gueterman of Fort Worth; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Donna Smith of Conroe and Harold Clayton and Chrissie Griffin of Mishawke, Ind.; two nieces, two nephews and an uncle.

Mozelle Mitchell Clepper
Nov. 8, 1924 — Aug. 23, 2000

NAVASOTA — Services for Mozelle Mitchell Clepper, 75, of White Hall are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at Salem Lutheran Church in White Hall.

The Rev. Lynn Stroud will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview White Hall Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota.

Mrs. Clepper died Wednesday in Grimes St. Joseph Health Center.

She was born in Navasota and was a receptionist for Camp Allen. She was an officer of AAL Branch No. 2414, a board member for the American Cancer Society, a reporter for the White Hall News, chairman of LWML in White Hall and secretary of the White Hall Tax Payers Association. She was also a member of Salem Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin Clepper; and two sons, Johnny Wayne Clepper and Mike Clepper.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Jane Clepper of Austin, Cornel Clepper and Ricky and Gloria Clepper, all of White Hall, and Sharon Clepper of Rowlett, Texas; two daughters and a son-in-law, Carolyne Hooks and Debbie and Donnie Addicks, all of White Hall; a brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Gaynell Mitchell of Livingston, Texas; two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, Jerriel Clepper of Pinehurst, Texas, and James and Ann Clepper of Dallas; six sisters-in-law, Mary Clepper, Artie Mae Fleming and Mary Sue Davenport, all of Navasota, Benita Mitchell of Onalaska, Texas, Bobby Scott Dodd of Splendora, Texas, and Evyonne Dannhaus of Brenham; 19 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Salem Lutheran Church in White Hall.

Karl Jene Peace
March 18, 1954 — Aug. 24, 2000

NAVASOTA — Memorial services for Karl Jene Peace, 46, of Washington, Texas, are set for 3 p.m. Sunday at Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to the time of the services Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. Peace died Thursday in Brenham.

He was born in Heidelberg, Germany, and was an inspector for a machine shop. He was a Vietnam veteran and held a masters degree. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Elaine Peace of Washington; two stepsons, Kenneth A. Roberts and Jason C. Roberts, both of Houston; two nephews; an aunt; and numerous other relatives.

Annie Kelton Reynolds
May 28, 1906 — August 25, 2000

MADISONVILLE — Services for Annie Kelton Reynolds, 94, of Midway are set for 3 p.m. Sunday at the Elwood Baptist Church in the Elwood Community.

The Revs. Adams Newcomer, Bob Hendrick and Bruce Woods and Lanier Stevens will officiate. Burial will be in the Allphin Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Madisonville Funeral Home in Madisonville.

Mrs. Reynolds died Friday at her home.

She was a lifelong resident of Madison County and was a homemaker. She was a postal worker at the Midway Post Office for a number of years and was a member of the Elwood Baptist Church since 1924.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Reynolds.

Survivors include six sons and daughters-in-law, G.G. and Nita Reynolds and Reed and Betty Ann Reynolds, all of Midway, Walton and Janey Reynolds of the Elwood community, Jack and Barbara Reynolds of Nacogdoches, Texas, Buddy and Sharon Reynolds and George and Betty Reynolds, all of Huntsville, Texas; eight daughters and five sons-in-law, Bettie Ann Allen, Marie Lohner and Rebecca and Jim Harrell, all of Midway, Sunshine and Roy Greer of Marshall, Texas, Rita Slaughter and Billy Davis and Beth Spiller, all of Madisonville, Vada and Lee Robertson of Azle, Texas, and Grace and L.C. Wall of Centerville; two sisters, Carmen Sowell of the Elwood community and Thelma Merrell of Temple, Texas; 54 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

Gene F. Brossmann
Dec. 19, 1941 — Aug. 26, 2000

Services for Dr. Gene F. Brossmann, 58, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan.

The Rev. John McCaffrey of St. Joseph Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in Restever Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Dr. Brossmann died Saturday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was born in Schulenburg, Texas, and had lived in Bryan for 26 years. He was retired after 20 years as a radiologist with St. Joseph Hospital and Bryan Radiology. He received a B.S. in Zoology from Texas A&M University in 1963 and his M.D. from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in 1967. He served in the U.S. Army for seven years and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he was a RICA team leader and was a monthly lector.

He was past secretary of the Brazos-Robertson County Medical Society, was a member of the Texas Medical Association, the American Medical Association and the Texas Radiological Society. He was a diplomat for the American College of Radiology and was also a member of the Radiological Society of North America and American Legion Post 159.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Brossmann of Bryan; a son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Jeanette Brossmann of Mentor, Ohio; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and John Roese of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., and Lori and Shami Patel of Orinda, Calif.; four sisters, Frances Wendler of Schulenburg, Rosalee Gaskamp and Irene Barta, both of Hallettsville, Texas, and Lillian Fowle of Houston; and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or St. Joseph Catholic Church.

William James Brown
Jan. 17, 1933 — Aug. 25, 2000

Services for William James Brown, 67, of College Station are set for 11 a.m. Monday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

Chaplain Joe Dan Franklin and the Rev. Chris Snidow of Parkway Baptist Church will officiate.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8:30 a.m. to the time of the services Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Brown died Friday in St. Joseph Rehabilitation Center in Bryan.

He was born in Claremore, Okla., and had lived in College Station for 17 years. He was a retired aviation electronic technician with the U.S. Navy and had worked for many years for the Bryan-College Station Eagle in the circulation department. He was a Christian.
Survivors include his wife, Cora Brown of College Station; two sons and daughters-in-law, William James Jr. and Jennifer Brown of Houston and James Charles and Carolyn Brown of Bryan; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Willann and Larry Thomas, Angela and Jack Adams and Cynthia and Charlie Ayala, all of Bryan, Glenda Brown of Albuquerque, N.M., and Charlotte Brown of Indianapolis, Ind.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Glen and Mary Alice Brown of Ocean Park, Wash., Sandy and Bea Howell of Prescott, Ariz., and Charles and Diane Brown of Santa Barbara, Calif.; a sister and brother-in-law, Kay and Ed Krahner of San Diego, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Juanita Dryden
Aug. 2, 1912 — Aug. 25, 2000

Services for Juanita Dryden, 88, of Benchley are set for 2 p.m. Monday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

The Revs. David Green and Bob Richers will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Ever Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8 a.m. to the time of services Monday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Dryden died Friday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Hansford, Texas, and had lived in Benchley since 1938. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bryan and owned and operated a dairy farm with her husband for 25 years in Benchley. She was a graduate of McMurray College in Abilene, Texas, with a degree in English and retired from Texas A&M University’s Poultry Science Department in 1977 as a bookkeeper.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William B. “Bill” Dryden Sr.
Survivors include a son, William B. “Bill” Dryden Jr. of Garland, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Durelle and Kenneth Kincel of Houston; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to the Methodist Children’s Home.
