Anna Dedmon
Feb. 27, 1904 — June 17, 2000

NAVASOTA — Services for Anna Dedmon, 96, of Anderson are set for 10 a.m. Monday at Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota.

Dr. Roy Ladd, retired, and the Rev. Ross Poteet of the First United Methodist Church in Navasota will officiate. Burial will be in White Hall Fairview Cemetery.
Mrs. Dedmon died Saturday in Anderson.

She was born in Retreat, Texas, and was a homemaker. She was a Baptist and was a past worthy matron of Eastern Star and was the first president of the Navasota Chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elliott Ellison Dedmon.

Survivors include a daughter, Anna Mae Bay of Anderson; a sister, Ruby Doris Mitchell of Navasota; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the White Hall Fairview Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund.

Edward F. Sowers
Sept. 26, 1918 — June 16, 2000

Services for Edward F. Sowers, 81, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Funeral Chapel College Station.

Mr. Foree Grove of the A&M Church of Christ in College Station will officiate. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Fairmont Cemetery in San Angelo, Texas.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to the time of the services Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. Sowers died Friday in Sherwood Health Care.

He was born in Landgraff, W.Va., and had lived in Bryan for five years. He was a dentist in El Paso, Texas, and San Angelo and worked with the Dental Society. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in San Angelo and was a deacon at the Presbyterian Church in El Paso and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in El Paso. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and attained the rank of captain. He received the Presidential Unit Award, Distinguished Flying Cross, the American Theater Ribbon, Air Medal with one Oak cluster, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with four bronze stars and the American Defense Service Ribbon.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabelle Sowers.

Survivors include three sons andtwo daughters-in-law, Edward T. Sowers of Susanville, Calif., Richard M. and Donna Sowers of Jonesborough, Tenn., and Scott B. and Sharon Sowers of Lilburn, Ga.; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Virginia and William H. Harrison of Albuquerque, N.M., Kathleen Witwiski of Sugarland, Texas, Mabelle and J.P. Bramhall of College Station, Polly and Todd Fisher of Knoxville, Tenn., and Susan Pingleton of Plano, Texas; 18 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley or to a charity of choice.

Elizabeth Poorman Moore
April 29, 1917 — June 18, 2000

BRENHAM — Memorial services for Elizabeth Poorman Moore, 83, of Chappell Hill are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Chappell Hill United Methodist Church.

Visitation will follow the services at her home in Chappell Hill.

Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.
Mrs. Moore died Sunday.

She was born in Katy, Texas, and had lived in Chappell Hill since 1980. She was a former resident of Houston, where she was a member of the Blue Bird Circle, Houston Symphony Campaign drives and served as the first woman elected vice-president of the Rice Alumni. She was also a volunteer and board member of the International Institute of Education and was founder of the Houston Taipei Sister City organization. In Chappell Hill, she and her husband opened the 1851 Stage Coach Inn as a house museum and bed and breakfast. She was a member of the Chappell Hill Historical Society and the annual Scarecrow Festival.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvin Cooper Moore.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Harvin C. Jr. and Mary Moore and Barry and Barbara Moore; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a nephew.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Chappell Hill United Methodist Church, Rice University or to a charity of choice.

Ira Lee Smith Jr.
Jan. 5, 1936 — June 15, 2000

Services for Ira Lee Smith Jr., 64, of Normangee are set for 1 p.m. Tuesday in Ruby’s Chapel of Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.

The Rev. C.W. Stewart of Mt. Olive Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in San Prairie Cemetery in Normangee.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith died Thursday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was born in Madison County and was a lifelong resident of Normangee. He was employed in construction.

Survivors include two brothers and a sister-in-law, Bobby Lee and Betty Smith of Bryan and Ronnie Dale Smith of Normangee.

Bobbie Clifton Cabaniss
Jan. 29, 1920 — June 15, 2000

Private services for Bobbie Clifton Cabaniss, 80, of Bryan will be held at a later date.
The Rev. Johnny Sloan of Rock Prairie Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Bryan City Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.
Mrs. Cabaniss died Thursday in Sherwood Health Care Center.

She was born in Nacogdoches, Texas, and was retired as a waitress and motel manager. She was a Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mose Lipscomb Cabaniss.

She is survived by many friends.

Margo Cude
Sept. 16, 1943 — June 18, 2000

ROCKDALE — Graveside services for Margo Cude, 56, of Milano are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Milano Cemetery in Milano.

The Rev. Charles Cole of the Milano Baptist Church will officiate.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Mrs. Cude died Sunday at her home.

She was born in Anniston, Ala., and had lived in Milano for eight years. She was a former resident of Houston and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Rockdale VFW Post No. 6525 Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband, Zettler Cude Sr. of Milano; a son, Delmon Cude of Milano; a daughter, Tina Robbins of Gillette, Wyo.; four brothers, Ralph Pitts of Giddings, Texas, Richard Pitts and Jimmy Pitts, both of Houston, and Ronald Pitts of Georgia; a sister, Betty Frost of Houston; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Amy Ruth Denman
Jan. 12, 1981 — June 15, 2000

MADISONVILLE — Services for Amy Ruth Denman, 19, of North Zulch were held Monday at the Willowhole Chapel in North Zulch.

The Rev. Jerry Russum officiated. Burial was in the Willowhole Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of J.M. Day Funeral Home in Madisonville.
Miss Denman died Thursday in Walker County.

She was born in Madison County and was a gymnast.

Survivors include a daughter, Taylor Marie Juarez of North Zulch; her parents, Bobby and Judy Denman of North Zulch; grandparents, Doris Lewis of Santa Fe, Texas, and Bonnie Denman of North Zulch; and numerous aunts, uncles and other relatives.

Stacie Lyn Heaton
July 21, 1981 — June 18, 2000

MADISONVILLE — Services for Stacie Lyn Heaton, 18, of North Zulch are set for 11 a.m. Thursday at the Madisonville Funeral Home in Madisonville.

Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Sabinal Cemetery in Sabinal, Texas.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., and from 9 a.m. to the time of the services Thursday at the funeral home.

Miss Heaton died Sunday in Hermann Hospital in Houston.

She was born in Conroe, Texas, and was a student at Sam Houston State University in the pre-pharmacy program. She worked in the cashier’s office at the university. She graduated in 1999 from North Zulch High School as salutatorian and played volleyball and golf and kept scores for basketball.

Survivors include her parents, Danny and Marsha Heaton of North Zulch; two brothers, Justin Klaus of San Antonio and Paul Heaton of College Station; a sister, Heather Heaton of North Zulch; grandparents, Dr. Daniel P. Heaton of Madisonville, Wilma Montgomery of Huntsville, Texas, and Loyce Welch of Uvalde, Texas; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Willie Mae Knight
March 30, 1930 — June 19, 2000

NAVASOTA — Services for Willie Mae Knight, 70, of Navasota are set for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota.

The Revs. Ross Poteet of the First United Methodist Church in Navasota and Bill Dugger will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Knight died Monday in Grimes St. Joseph Health Center in Navasota.

She was born in Carlos and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she was in the Bethany Unit and Odd Couples Sunday school class. She was retired as a teacher, having taught in Vidor, Texas, Houston and Navasota. She later was a supervisor of Title One federal programs, working with classroom teachers to promote skills in reading and art. She held a bachelor’s degree from Sam Houston State University and a master’s of education degree from the University of Houston. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the Retired Teachers Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray H. Knight.

Survivors include a sister, Marguerite G. Dilorio of Navasota; Ruth Clary of Navasota; and five cousins.

Ricky Kraatz
Sept. 23, 1954 — June 18, 2000

ROCKDALE — Services for Ricky Kraatz, 45, of Rockdale are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

The Rev. Doug Springer of Rockdale Full Gospel Church will officiate. Burial will be in Sharp Cemetery in Sharp, Texas.

Mr. Kraatz died Sunday in Minerva, Texas.

He was born in Dallas and had lived most of his life in the Rockdale area. He formerly lived in Austin, where he worked as a master plumber and electrician, and in Port Lavaca, where he worked with Formosa as a pipefitter for ten years.

Survivors include his mother and step-father, Minnie and John Alford of Minerva; a brother, Terry Kraatz of Thorndale; a step-brother, Aaron Alford of Rockdale; three sisters, Virginia Baggerly of Gause, Barbara McBride of Kingsland and Wanda Manas of Rockdale; and 12 nieces and nephews.

Charles Christopher Martin
Dec. 23, 1913 — June 19, 2000

NORMANGEE — Graveside services for Charles Christopher Martin, 86, of Normangee are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at George Cemetery in George, Texas.
Bro. Johnny Crocker will officiate.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cozart Funeral Home in Normangee.
Mr. Martin died Monday.

He was born in George, Texas, and was a retired postmaster. He was a member of the Sand Prairie Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Hilma Martin of Normangee; a daughter, Patsy Nanga Donaho of Edge; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Mittie Lou McCall
April 22, 1936 — June 19, 2000

CAMERON — Services for Mittie Lou McCall, 64, of Caldwell are set for 11 a.m. Thursday in the Kathryn W. Green Chapel of Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron.

The Rev. James E. Lafferty will officiate. Burial will be in Marlow Cemetery near Cameron.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. McCall died Monday in a Houston hospital.

She was born in Cameron and was a homemaker. She was a Baptist.

Survivors include five sons, Ronald Dean McCall of Macon, Ga., Billy Jack McCall of Cummins, Ga., James Edward McCall of Troy, Thomas Ray McCall of Austin and Richard Earl McCall of Cameron; three daughters, Brenda Lue O’Hair of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Donna Sue Price of Cameron and Joyce Ann Stracener of Caldwell; five brothers, Gilbert Clinard and Raymond Clinard, both of Troy, Ronnie Clinard of Tyler, Texas,
Lonnie Clinard of Caldwell and Hulen Clinard of Salado, Texas; three sisters, Darlene Kirby of Belton, Texas, Barbara Bulls of Troy and Hester Murrow of Moody, Texas; 21 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
