John Wesley Ashley was born Oct. 17, 1919, in Elkhart. He served his country in World War II. John was a reminder to his family to never lose hope and to always find a reason to smile. He was sweet and wonderful and precious to us. He was the inspiration behind so much of the laughter and so much of the love that blessed our lives. There was no one else like him; he was a good daddy, a loving grandfather, a caring great-grandfather, a gentle great-great-grandfather, and a considerate in-law to the spouses of those he loved.
Goodbye Daddy, we loved you - Jeri, Gary, Skip, Beth, Janie, Betty, Donnie, Dale and Helen. Tell Jesus we said you were a good daddy and we thank Him for sending you to us.
Goodbye Grandfather, you had a unique personality and a knack for making life happier and more rewarding. You were one of the world's most special people in our lives - Ray, Cyndi, Charles, Tony, Kim, Jenny, Renee, John Wesley, John Edward, Sarah, Amber, Jason, Rhonda, Don Lee, Julie, Pam, Jamie, Stephanie, Shawn, Jennifer, Ginny, Kevin, Mark, Steve and Lisa.
Goodbye from your great-great grandchild. Although I am far too young to be able to remember you, your influence on my life will be remembered because of the way you raised your children, who then in turn raised their children, who then in turn raised their children, and so will I raise my own children someday. This is your legacy.
Goodbye to the best in-law ever from all of us who were lucky enough to marry into your family, we loved you. You had that rare combination of many qualities that became interwoven with our own. Thank you.
None of us would trade the days we spent with you for anything. Well ... maybe just one thing. A million plus more just like them, and we'll spend them with you in Heaven. Say hello to Barry, Mom, Grandma, Grandpa, and all the uncles and aunts who went before you, and tell them we will see them again.
