Mr.  Taylor died Monday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.

Thomas Edward "Tex" Edmondson

Thomas Edward "Tex" Edmondson was born June 6, 1908 in Slocum and died May 11, 2003; a resident of Boca Raton, Fla., Tex was a graduate of Sam Houston State College in  Texas and taught school for a short time. He moved to New York City in 1937 where he was an insurance adjuster and a freelance radio writer often writing for such radio programs as "I Love a Mystery," "The Shadow," "Gangbusters" and "Grand Central Station." He was a host on a Norwegian cruise ship as well as an entrepreneur in real estate and investments.

Tex was pre-deceased by his wife of 23 years, Lucy Henderson Edmondson; sisters, Eunice Mills and Lora Franklin; and brother, Mongo P. Edmondson.

He is survived by a sister, Myrtle Flynt of Palestine; and brother, O.B. Edmondson of Cross Plains,  Texas; 10 nieces and nephews; and numerous grand-nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Bailey & Foster Chapel, Palestine,  Texas with the Rev. Jay Abernathy and Gene Kilroy officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Park.

Pallbearers will be M.P. Edmondson Jr., George McKenzie, Ed Edmondson, Bruce Hollander, Robert Richardson and Gene Kilroy.

Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

Dave Neil Bass

Services for Dave Neil Bass, 41, of Fairfield will be at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church in Fairfield with the Rev. Wayne Flowers and David Filis officiating. Burial will follow at Steward Mill Cemetery.

Mr. Bass died Thursday in Dallas.

Condolence calls will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Capps Memorial Chapel.

James Syzmanski

Services for James Syzmanski, 37, of Fairfield will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Fairfield with the Rev. Monsignor Samuel Metzger officiating. Burial will follow at Fairfield Cemetery under the direction of Capps Memorial Chapel.

Condolence calls will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Kenneth Nelson Berry

Graveside services for Kenneth Nelson Berry, 74, Palestine, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Cathedral In the Pines Cemetery in Tyler with the Revs. William Snidow and Michael Mynatt officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.

Mr. Berry died Saturday in Tyler.

He was born September 3, 1928, in Rochester, N. H. to the late Nelson Irvin and Mable Faye Canney Berry.

Mr. Berry was a veteran of the Korean War and retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserves as a Master Seargent.

A resident of Palestine since 1975, he was a former resident of Waco where he rose through the ranks of the Waco Police Department. He served as Chief of the Palestine Police Department from 1975 until 1979, when he was named City Manager, a post he held until 1986. He served as City Administrator for the City of Troup from 1986 until 1993. He served as a consultant for numerous cities and was Interim City Manager for the City of Corsicana.

Mr. Berry was a member of the Rotary Club in Palestine and was a member of both the Kiwanis Club and the Rotary Club in Troup. He was a past president of the Troup Rotary Club.

He was a member of Norwood Heights Baptist Church.

He married Ruth Compton Berry, December 5, 1987.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Melvin Berry.

Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Ruth Compton Berry of Palestine; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth Geoffery and Kim Berry of Maydelle; Melvin Lloyd McNeal, Jr. of Mesquite; a daughter and son-in-law, Michele Lee and Jimmy Bailey of Cedar Park; sister Natalie L. VanBruskirk of Rochester, N. H.; and a grandson, Steven Geoffery Berry of Palestine.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Stephen Paul Smith, II, Randy Wilbanks, David Lacy, William H. Compton, Dr. Jeffrey W. James, and the Men of Norwood Heights Baptist Church.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Norwood Heights Baptist Church, Highway 155, Palestine, or to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

John Edward Lockler

Services for Rev. John Edward Lockler, 53, of Bridge City will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Bridge City with the Rev. Rudy Elizondo, Rev. Dale Lee, Rev. Keven Inman and Ted Myers officiating. Praise and worship will be led by the Rev. Bud Davis. Burial will follow at Land of Memory Cemetery in Palestine under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City.

Rev. Lockler died Friday at his residence.

He was born in Houston on Sept. 16, 1949.

Rev. Lockler was a former resident of Palestine and Slocum and had lived in Bridge City for the past 11 years where he served as pastor of First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Lockler of Bridge City; son, Carlos Lockler and wife Kim of Orange; daughter, Dedra Morris and husband Terry of Bridge City; mother, Dorothy Massey of Elkhart; father, Johnny Mazzei of Houston; half-brothers, Sgt. Brent Massey of Kuwait, Byron Massey of Slocum, Preston Massey of Palestine, Billy Wayne Massey of Mason and Bill Mazzei of Houston; half-sisters, Cathy Weiman and Linda Mazzei, both of Houston, Janis Rogers of Palestine and Tammy Pycatt of Elkhart; and four grandchildren, Kelsey Morris, Kendra Morris, Cody Morris and John Caden Lockler.

Pallbearers will be Steve Taylor, Billy Crull, Gerald Morris, Butch Thurman, Donny Pickard, Billie Allen, Ted Myers and Jeff Dumesnil.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Fleming, Damon Childress, Jeff Billette, Rodney Billette and the deacons of the First Baptist Church of Bridge City.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church at 200 W. Round Bunch Rd., Bridge City,  Texas 77611.

Bill Steuart

Services for Bill Steuart, 75, of Fairfield will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Capps Memorial Chapel in Fairfield with the Rev. Don Suits officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Capps Memorial Chapel.

Mr. Steuart died Friday in Fairfield.

There will be a gathering of family and friends from noon until the time of the service Tuesday.

Velma Jean Parkis

Services for Velma Jean Parkis, 78, will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Etta Guthrie officiating. Burial will follow at Hopewell Cemetery in Brushy Creek.

Mrs. Parkis died Sunday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.

She was born May 5, 1925 in Shell Knob, Mo. to Noah and Mary Cooper Mills.

Mrs. Parkis married Wilburn F. Parkis on March 15, 1947 in Kansas. She was a homemaker and a member of Grace and Truth Gospel Tabernacle.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and two brothers.

Mrs. Parkis is survived by her husband; children, Diana Phillips, Kathy Hogue and Keith Parkis, all of Palestine; sisters Treva  Taylor and Oneda Ray, both of Missouri, and Cleo  Jones of California; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Gary Davis, Joshua Davis, J.R. Green, Mack Green, Billy Rose and Cecil Turner.

Honorary pallbearers will be H.C. Baker Jr., Daniel Plummer and Jimmy Turner.

Condolence calls can be made from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Frank McMorris

Services for Frank McMorris, 92, of Dallas, and formerly of Neches, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Flint Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Hezekiah Stallworth officiating Arrangements are under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.

Mr. McMorris died Sunday at Brentwood Nursing Home in Dallas.

James Robert Lane

Services for James Robert Lane, 74, of Buffalo will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Flo Baptist Church in Flo with Kenneth Stone and the Rev. Dewain Mixon officiating. Burial will follow at Wheelock Cemetery in Leon County. Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of Buffalo.

Mr. Lane died Monday at his home in Buffalo.

John F. "Jack" Cox

Services for John F. "Jack" Cox, 83, of Tyler will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Land of Memory Cemetery with the Rev. Lester Foreman officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Boren-Conner Funeral Home in Bullard.

Mr. Cox died Sunday morning in a Tyler hospital.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Irene Easley Callaway

Mrs. Callaway died this morning at  Whitehall Nursing Center in Crockett.

Mr. Simmons died Friday in Palestine.

Louise Hobson

Services for Louise Hobson, 90, of Palestine will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Robley Soileau officiating. Burial will follow in Strong Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.

Mrs. Hobson died Sunday at Dogwood Trails Nursing Home.

She was born May 8, 1913 in Anderson County to Thomas Elmore and Lottie Chloe Denson Bishop.

Mrs. Hobson was a piano teacher and taught piano lessons for many years in Houston and Palestine. She was a member of the Memorial Christian Church where she was the church organist for 15 years. She was a member of the Organ Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; Marvin Hobson; in 2000; and a daughter, Myrna Louise Hobson.

Mrs. Hobson is survived by her son, Gary Hobson and wife Sonja of Katy; sisters, Lois Lively and husband Raymond of Palestine and Florine Adamack of Palestine; brother, B.T. Bishop of Houston; brother-in-law, Edward Hobson and wife Novaline of Frankston; and two grandchildren, Daniel Hobson and Brian Hobson.

Pallbearers will be Tony Lively, Harry Lively, Brian Hobson, Daniel Hobson, Alfred Olsson and Jim Bishop.

Honorary pallbearers will be B.T. Bishop, Raymond Lively and Edward Hobson.

Condolence calls will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
