Martha Manry
Martha Dean Manry, 73, of Denton, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at her daughter’s home in Denton.
She was born June 13, 1928, in Argyle, to Lloyd and Mary Estella (Frank) Vandergriff. On Sept. 8, 1954, she married Clyde Earl Manry in Denton.
Mrs. Manry was a homemaker.
She was Baptist.
A service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, in the chapel of Goen-Hudgens Funeral Home. The Rev. Bill Black will officiate. Interment will follow at Prairie Mound Cemetery in Argyle.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, at the funeral home.
Survivors include two daughters, Martha Thorkildsen and Patricia Ann Morby, both of Denton; two sisters, Margaret Lyde of Lago Vista and Emma Loving of Tyler; two brothers, Clarence Vandergriff of Farmers Branch and William Vandergriff of Keller; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Michael ‘Buddy’ Sauls
Michael "Buddy" Glenn Sauls, 27, of Denton, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at Dallas Medical City Hospital.

Terry Aycock
Odessa – Terry Vaughn Aycock, 45, of Odessa, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, in a Denton hospital.
He was born Feb. 20, 1956, in Crane, and grew up in Odessa where he lived most of his life. He graduated from Permian High School. On Dec. 18, 1992, he married Debra Snodgrass, in Odessa.
Mr. Crane worked as a plumber most of his life and had been in Denton for the past one and a half months waiting for a transplant.
He was a member of Christadelphian Church of Stanton. He was a pool player and a member of a pool league in Odessa.
A service will be held at 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, Aug. 28, at Downtown Church of Christ in Stanton. Dan Stevens, of Christadelphian Ecclesia, will officiate. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Stanton. Gilbreath Funeral Home of Stanton is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Debra Aycock of Odessa; two daughters, Meranda Frost of Austin and Jennifer Frost of Odessa; one son, Tommy Frost of Denton; his mother, Wanda Aycock of Midland; and his father, Johnny Aycock of Robert Lee. One son, Johnathan Hite Aycock, is deceased.

Decatur – Mary Ruth Isbell Hornback, 78, of Decatur, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at her home.

Minor ‘Scoop’ Smith
Placitas, N.M. – Minor A. "Scoop" Smith, 61, of Placitas, N.M., died Friday, Aug. 24, 2001, from injuries suffered in a plane crash in Raton, N.M.
He was born Nov. 30, 1939, in Texarkana, Ark. He graduated from the Western military Academy and Vanderbilt University, and served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Smith was a pilot for Delta Airlines for 31 years, retiring as captain of an MD-11 in 1997.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Double Eagle Airport in Albuquerque, N.M. The Sunrise Society of Albuquerque, N.M., is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Confederate Airforce, Lobo Wing, c/o Ken McBride, 3025 Torreador Drive NE, Albuquerque, N.M. 87111, or to a charity of choice.
Survivors include his wife, Julie Smith of Placitas, N.M.; one brother, I. Lynn Smith of Texarkana, Ark.; two daughters, Julia L. Smith of Denton and Susan Milner of Evansville, Ind.; and three grandchildren.
Ruth G. Garrison
Ruth Gladys Garrison, 80, of Denton died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, at Denton Rehabilitation Nursing Center.
She was born May 18, 1921, in Roslyn, Ky., to Jim Wesley and Millie Townsend.
A service will be held in Kentucky at a later date. Dalton & Son Funeral Home of Lewisville is in charge of local arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Sandie Stone of Little Elm; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.
Herman Johnson II
Herman Johnson II, 46, of Denton died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, in Denton.
He was born April 19, 1955, in Monroe, La., to Agnes Newton and Herman Johnson Sr.
Mr. Johnson was a member of Morse Street Baptist Church.
Services are at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, at Morse Street Baptist Church of Denton. The Rev. A.R. Stokes will officiate. Burial is at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, in Oakforest Cemetery in Standard, La.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Ann (Barnes) Johnson of Denton; his parents of Clarks, La.; two sons, Demichael Johnson and Herman Johnson III, both of Denton; one daughter, Necia Johnson of Denton; and one brother, Gregory Carl Johnson of Clarks, La.

Grace G. Love, 76, of Denton died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, at the Good Samaritan Village Healthcare Center.

Ora J. Davis Sr.
Cleburne – Ora Jay Davis Sr., 79, of Cleburne died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at Walls Regional Hospital in Cleburne.
He was born Nov. 2, 1921, in Shirley, Ark.
Mr. Davis was a retired machine shop electrician. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, in Oaklawn Cemetery in Decatur.
The family will be at Coker Funeral Home of Decatur from 7 to 8 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, Aug. 29, for visitation.
Survivors include one son, Ora Jay Davis Jr. of Cleburne; three daughters, Jetta Gray of Lakewood, Calif., LaVerne Walls of Bridgeport, and Kay Kirkland of Decatur; two brothers, Rex Davis of Batesville, Ark., and Jessie Davis of Thida, Ark.; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. His wife, Dorothy (Simmons) Davis, is deceased.
Garland C. Keeler
Allen – Garland Cecil Keeler, 87, former resident of Denton, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, at North Central Medical Center in McKinney.
He was born Oct. 24, 1913, in Denton, to Newt and Willie Mae (Jarnagin) Keeler. He attended Denton public schools. On March 23, 1935, he married Bobbie Marie Vandeventer in Denton.
Mr. Keeler was the owner and operator of Keeler’s Korner Antique Store for 20 years and had previously been a carpenter.
He was a member of Central Baptist Church.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Denton. Chaplain Rickey Hargrove will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Rick Keeler, Greg Keeler, Mike McMakin, Jeff Dugger, Jake Dugger and George Brakefield.
The family will be at Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home of Denton from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, Aug. 29, for visitation.
Survivors include his wife of Allen; one daughter, Glenda Ann McMakin of Allen; one son, Richard Darwin Keeler of Granbury; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Michael ‘Buddy’ Sauls
Aubrey – Michael Glen "Buddy" Sauls, 27, of Aubrey, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at Medical City Hospital in Dallas, of leukemia.
He was born Jan. 23, 1974, in Denton.
Mr. Sauls was a shower technician at Coremax Aerospace.
Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, in the chapel of Schmitz-Floyd-Andersen Funeral Home of Denton. The Rev. Buddy Owens and Pastor Frankie Garcia will officiate. Burial will be in Cooper Creek Cemetery, Denton.
Pallbearers will be Mark Autrey, Randy Carney, J.K. Corrigan, Carl Dauscher, Eric Dauscher and Michael Gray.

Grace G. Love
Grace G. Love, 76, of Denton died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001 at the Good Samaritan Health Care Center.
She was born Oct. 20, 1924, in Kingsville to Gilbert and Grace (Porter) Walker. On Oct. 12, 1947, she married Malcolm Love in Denton.
Mrs. Love graduated from what is now known as the University of North Texas in 1946. She was a retired bookkeeper.
She was a member of the Welch Street Church of Christ.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 31, at the Welch Street Church of Christ. Terry Collins will officiate. Burial will be in the Roselawn Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Malcolm Love of Denton; one son, Tony Love of Omaha, Neb.; one daughter, Sylvia Love of Chicago, Ill.; and two grandchildren.
Virginia H. Nebel
Virginia H. Nebel, 89, formerly of Argyle, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001.
She was born May 7, 1912, in Pittsburgh, Pa. She married Henry Palmer Dennis in 1935. In 1964 she married Joseph H. Stalnaker. She was also married to Charles J. Nebel. All of her husbands are deceased.
Mrs. Nebel was a homemaker. She was a member of the women’s auxiliary and was a volunteer worker for North Hills Passavant Hospital. In Argyle, she was an active member of the women’s auxiliary of the Argyle Fire Department. She held many friendship Bible coffees at her home in Argyle for the Denton Christian Women’s Club.
She was a member of the New Jerusalem Christian Church in Pittsburgh, and St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. She was a charter member and past-worthy matron of the North Hills Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star (Pittsburgh, Pa.).
Burial will be at a later date in Allegheny Memorial Park in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn D. Dailey of Denton and Judith A. Barry of Allison Park, Pa.; one son, Joseph H. Stalnaker Jr.; one sister, Marjorie R. Mucka of Pittsburgh, Pa.; one brother, Albert J. Heer of New Castle, Pa.; and five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Evelyn J. Mummey and Dorothy A. Stewart, and one brother, Warren G. Heer, are deceased.
