Euna Woods

Euna Mae Woods, 75, of Denton died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, at Denton Regional Medical Center.

She was born Feb. 14, 1926, in Aubrey to Virgil and Della Brown. On Aug. 1, 1943, she married D.W. Woods in Denton County. He died in 1986.

Mrs. Woods attended Aubrey and Greenville schools. She was a retired nurse’s assistant.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, at the Greenvalley Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 23, at DeBerry Funeral Directors.

Survivors include three daughters, Mae Jean Lowe, Carolyn Hill, and Mary Hammonds, all of Denton; three sons, D.W. Woods Jr. of Collinsville, William C. Woods of Ponder and Virgil G. Woods of Mt. Springs; four sisters, Peggy Hilliard of St. Jo, Margaret Cearly of Krum, Dianna Alexander of Sanger, and Barbara Cross of Justin; one brother, James P. Brown of Fort Worth; 15 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Alyne Grimes

Alyne Michael Grimes, 86, of Denton died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001,at the Good Samaritan Village.

She was born Sept. 14, 1914, in Denton County to F.N. "Bud" and Cordelia Brewer Michael. On July 4, 1952, she married Marylon L. Grimes in Denton.

Mrs. Grimes was a member of the Cooper Creek Baptist Church.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at Cooper Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. Bobby Bryant and the Rev. Bob Joyce will officiate. Burial will be in Cooper Creek Cemetery.

The family will be at the Goen-Hudgens Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 24, for visitation. Memorials may be made to the Cooper Creek Baptist Church Building Fund.

Survivors include her husband, M.L. "Preacher" Grimes of Denton; two daughters, Marlene Harper of Denton and Barbara Grimes Hogsett of Heston, Kan.; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Chris Jones

Chris Jones, 46, of Denton, formerly of Bonham, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, at Denton Community Hospital.

He was born May 1, 1955, in Dallas to Jess David and Janice Sue Brown Jones. He was a 1973 graduate of Bonham High School and a 1978 graduate of Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Ark. On May 30, 1981, he married Nancilou Poole, in Little Rock, Ark.

Mr. Jones was hired this summer as an assistant football coach by Denton High School.

He coached track and football for more than 23 years. He coached at Monticello High School in Monticello, Ark., and Plano East Senior, Greenville, Mesquite, North Garland, Crandall, and Denton high schools, and Howard Payne University in Brownwood. He was a member of the Texas High School Coaches Association and the American Football Coaches Association.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mesquite.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, at First Christian Church in Bonham. The Rev. Kirk M. Jones, pastor of First Baptist Church in Greenville, will officiate. Burial will follow in Arledge Ridge Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Allen Rich, David Trout, Steve Halpin, Robbie Robinson, Jeff Hantes, Tim Eshleman, Mickey DeLamar and Josh Cannon.

The family will receive friends at Wise Funeral Home in Bonham from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice.

Survivors include his wife of Denton; one son, Aaron Michael Jones of Denton; one daughter, Ashley Michelle Jones of Denton; his mother, Janice Smith of Bonham; his father of Bonham; his maternal grandmother, Vera Brown of Bonham; three brothers, Kirk Jones of Greenville, Loy Jones of Fort Worth, and Roy Jones of Bonham; and one stepbrother, Ron Smith of Bonham.

Leo Gross

Thank you God for letting us experience your love and joy through our loving father, grandfather, brother and friend, Leo Gross. He was Born June 24, 1928 in Pilot Point.

He will be lovingly remembered by all for his warm heart, giving nature, unbending will, and his unwavering love and devotion for everyone.

He is remembered by his loving wife Ruth of Pottsboro; sister Jean Fogle of Grand Prairie; son and daughter-in-law, Don and Brenda Gross of Sherman; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Karen Gross of Pottsboro; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Mike Gentry of Durant.

He was the most amazing "Papa" to Little Larry, Carli, Casey, Blake, Jonathan, Charity, and Josiah Gentry; Tiffany and Ken Fisher; April and Garon Gross. He was Great-grandfather to Stephanie Gross.

He worked with Reliable Life Insurance from 1959 to 1989. Upon retirement he was able to do his two favorite things, hunt and fish. He later joined Nikken and made many close friends that he loved and cherished dearly.

We will be celebrating his life Saturday, Aug. 25, at 4 p.m. at the Victory Life Chapel, 3412 W. University, Durant, Okla.

Family and friends are welcome to visit the Victory Life Chapel Friday, Aug. 24, from 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the Bible Believers, 189 Old Perrin Rd. Sherman, TX 75092.

We love him more than words can possibly express. He will be missed more than anyone can imagine. Every day we will lean on the simple truth that he is still with us all, holding our hands, giving us hugs, and helping us through our journey of life. And when our own journeys are complete we'll know where to find him. He'll be at the best fishing spot in Heaven.

Harold L. Morris

Tioga - Harold l. Morris, 77, of Tioga died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001 at Denton Regional Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 3, 1923, in Jonesburg, Missouri, to James Ewall Morris and Helen Hunter Morris. He married Mildred Pease on Oct. 15, 1947, in Bowling Green, Mo.

Mr. Morris served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He farmed in Missouri until 1978 when he moved to Tioga and continued to farm and ranch.

Mr. Morris is a member of Concord Presbyterian Church in Bowling Green, Mo., where he served as a deacon and an elder and Sunday School teacher. He is a former member of Grayson County Sheriff's Possee and National Cutting Horse Association.

The family will be at Slay Memorial Funeral Center in Aubrey from 7 to 8 Friday night, Aug. 24, for visitation.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at the funeral home. Dr. Dana Moore of Amarillo will officiate. Burial will be in Tioga Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Hank Schodde, Neil Jones, Alton Lester, Bill Tackett, Mike Graves, Noel Harris and Gaetan Gauthier.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred, of Tioga; one son, Roger Morris of East Bend, N.C.; two daughters, Barbie Mays and husband, Mike, of Aubrey and Becky Meinen and husband, Ricky, of Pilot Point; five grandchildren, Carrie Palmer and husband, Jerry, of Mabank, Lori Montgomery and husband, Doug, of Denton, Rick Meinen of Pilot Point and Krystal and Ryan Morris of East Bend, N.C.;four great-grandchildren, Whitney Watkins, Hayden and Ryan Palmer and Michael Montgomery. He is also survived by two brothers, Leslie Morris of Benton City, M.O. and Donald Ray Morris of Vandalia, Mo.; two sisters, Idella Morris of Mexico, Mo. and Bernadine Carline of Martensburg, Mo.; numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.

Bennie Chambers Jr.

Sanger – Bennie Lee Chambers Jr., 39, of Sanger died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, at Denton Community Hospital.

He was born September 10, 1961, in Denton, to Bennie L. and Georgia Chambers.

Mr. Chambers was a production worker for Boeing Aerospace & Electronics.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, at the Galilee Baptist Church. Reggie Logan will officiate. Burial will be at Sanger Cemetery.

The family will be at Coker Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27, for visitation.

Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Chambers of Sanger; one son, Devin Kelly of Sanger; one daughter, Jessica D. Chambers of Sanger; his father, Bennie L. Chambers of Denton; his stepfather and mother, Sylvester and Georgia Royal of Sanger; one brother, Clayton Hastings of San Antonio; and one sister, Angela McDade of Sanger.

Myrtle Faye Taylor

Bridgeport – Myrtle Faye Taylor, 84, of Bridgeport died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2001 in Bridgeport.

She was born Aug. 1, 1917 in Greenwood. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Franklin Taylor.

Mrs. Taylor was a homemaker.

She was Baptist.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 27, at Pleasant Grove Cemetery #1. Coker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include seven sons, Billy Wayne Wilson of Waco, Edward Taylor of Bridgeport, Denny Taylor of Joshua, Johnny Taylor of Wisconsin, Donald Taylor of Iowa, Bill Taylor and Raymond Taylor, both of Oregon; two daughters, Shirley Strasser of Waco and Rosie Taylor of Missouri; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Minnie Arrington

Rhome – Minnie Arrington, 81, of Rhome died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at Sunny Hills Nursing Center in Decatur.

She was born Oct. 21, 1919, in Wise County. On Aug. 7, 1937, she married Ross Thomas Arrington, in Decatur. He is deceased.

Mrs. Arrington was a homemaker.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, at Rhome Assembly of God Church in Rhome. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Steve Barrons, Rip Butler, Kenny Byers, Robert Miles, Harold Norris and Richard Young.

The family will be at Coker Funeral Home of Decatur from 6:30 to 8 p.m. tonight, Monday, Aug. 27, for visitation.

Survivors include three sons, Jimmy Arrington of Bromide, Okla., Thomas Arrington of Newark, and Alton Young of Boyd; one daughter, Billie Romine of Rhome; one sister, Ruby Lewis of Paradise; 13 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Larry A.J. Dugger

Valley View – Larry A.J. Dugger, 58, of Valley View died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at Denton Community Hospital.

He was born June 1, 1943, in Alba, and he graduated from Denton High School.

Mr. Dugger worked for the Nowell Kirby Co. in Lewisville for more than 20 years. He also served in the National Guard.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, in the chapel of Clement-Keel Funeral Home in Gainesville. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery.

Survivors include one son, Larry "Lad" Dugger of White Oak; five brothers, David Dugger and Bernard Dugger, both of Valley View, Calvin Dugger and Vernon Dugger, both of Gainesville, and Richard Dugger of Marietta, Okla.; and three sisters, Wanda Calvert Pierce of Ratliff City, Okla., Odelia Doughty of Valley View and Dolly Hobbs of Gainesville.

Thomas Hodges

Alvord – Thomas Hodges, 82, of Alvord died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at his residence.

He was born June 4, 1919, in Hopewell. On May 3, 1941, he married Tommie Ann Wooten, in Waurika, Okla.

Mr. Hodges was a rancher and a member of Hopewell Baptist Church.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, in the chapel of Coker Funeral Home of Decatur. Bill Cleveland will officiate. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Decatur.

Pallbearers will be Roger Hodges, Ronny Hodges, W.L. Wooten, Lloyd Pitts, Floyd Pitts and William Good.

The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. tonight, Monday, Aug. 27, for visitation.

Survivors include his wife; one son, James Hodges of Decatur; three daughters, La’Wayne Hauser of Fort Worth, Jo Evelyn Atkin of New Braunfels and Margaret Gilbreath of Gainesville; one sister, Meridith Hale of Alvord; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. One son, Truitt Gene Hodges, is deceased.

Joyce Koelzer

Muenster – Joyce (Owen) Koelzer, 56, of Muenster died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at Denton Regional Medical Center.

She was born April 25, 1945, in Muenster, to George Raymond and Agnes Pautler Owen. On Aug. 11, 1983, she married Norman Koelzer in Muenster.

Mrs. Koelzer was a lifelong resident of Muenster. She worked as a machinist for Valenite Inc. for 24 years.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Muenster. The Rev. John Ohner will officiate. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Muenster.

The rosary will be said at 4 p.m. today, Monday, Aug. 27, and a vigil will be at 7 p.m. tonight in the chapel of McCoy Funeral Home of Muenster.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Wimmer, J.T. Pagel, Willie Fisher, Carl Bayer, Tim Schumacher and Doyle Cook.

Survivors include her husband; five daughters, Anita Rene Barber and Toni Michele Reiter, both of Denton, Tina Marie Marshall of Donalds, S.C., Carol Lynn Pumphrey of Muenster, and Leslie Kay Lawler of Denton; four sons, Kent Wayne Reiter of Denton, Keith Allen Koelzer of Oklahoma City, Okla., Glen Wayne Reiter of Muenster, and Stephen Joseph Koelzer of Gainesville; her mother of Muenster; 10 sisters, Betty Jo Hollis of Memphis, Tenn., Frankie Marie Hermes of Denton, Georgia Ann Henscheid of Irving, Margie Pagel of Lake Dallas, Lois Wrey of Irving, Mary Trammell of Lake Dallas, Cheryl Kay Hibbits of Mesquite, Rita Sue Patrick of Fort Worth, and Karla Ross of Washington, D.C.; one brother, James Raymond Owen of Charleston, S.C.; and 12 grandchildren. Her father, two brothers, Michael Patrick Owen and Glen W. Owen, and one grandchild are deceased.

Nell "Granny" Moore

Era Gaynell (Cravens) Moore was born May 2, 1916; she passed away at her home in Mustang, surrounded by her family, on Aug. 25, 2001.

She was born to George Eldridge and Martha Ola (Spradlin) Cravens in Celina, Texas. She was married to Gary Autry Moore on April 28, 1933. He proceeded her in death Dec. 17, 1979. She was a long time resident of the Mustang Community where she was very active in the Mustang Baptist Church.

She served as church clerk for many years; she also taught Sunday School and was the song leader. She served as a midwife for Dr. Harris in her early years and then began working as a accountant at LTV. She retired from LTV in 1978. She was also a charter member of The Order of the Eastern Star, Pilot Point Chapter #1025.

She was proceeded in death by her brothers, Bud and Charles Cravens, and her sisters, Gladys Cravens Solomon, Marion Cravens Bojnoch, and Verdna Cravens Settles.

Nell is survived by her sister: Pat Flowers of Kountz, Texas, her children, Peggy Slayton of Lubbock, Texas, G.A. Moore Jr. of Celina, Texas, and Marjorie Vasquez of Celina, Texas. She also has 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A service was held at 10 a.m. today, Monday, Aug. 27, at Slay Memorial Funeral Home of Aubrey.
