Homer Riley

Sanger - Homer Charles Riley, 82, of Sanger, died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at Denton Community Hospital.

He was born Aug. 1, 1918, in Greenwood.

Mr. Riley moved to Sanger to manage Riney Propane Co., then later became manager of Enderby Gas Company before retiring in 1983. He served as Past Master of Mason-Bolivar Lodge #418 and as Past Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star.

He was a deacon of First Baptist Church.

The service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at the First Baptist Church in Sanger. Dr. E.L. McNeal will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Greenwood.

The family will be at Coker Funeral Home in Sanger from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 27, for visitation.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Riley of Sanger; two sons, Charles Riley of Decatur and Hoyt Riley of Sanger; one brother, Evert L. Riley of Aubrey; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Arlys Bowen Burns

Aubrey - Arlys Bowen Burns, 82, of Aubrey, died Thursday morning, April 26, 2001, at the Denton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She was born July 9, 1918, in Killeen, to Oran Harrison Bowen and Minnie Ellen Swope Bowen.

She was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Aubrey and was retired from LTV Aerospace. She was a volunteer at the Denton Baptist Association and the Shephard's Storehouse.

The family will be at DeBerry Funeral Directors from 7 to 8 p.m. tonight, Friday, April 27, for visitation. Memorials are to be made to the New Hope Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at the New Hope Baptist Church in Aubrey with the Rev. Elmer Cummings officiating. Burial will be at the Belew Cemetery in Aubrey.

She is survived by two stepdaughters, Marajane Davis of Houston and Alice Faye Rohus of Houston; one stepson, Robert F. Burns and wife Jancie of Tomball; one sister, LaVerne Elmore of Aubrey; three brothers, J.R. Bowen of Jonesboro, John D. Bowen of Temple and Max Bowen of Houston; 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; eight nieces; and seven nephews. Her husband, Robert Burns, preceded her in death in 1967.

Pallbearers are Bryan Ward, Bobby Ward, Joel Miller, Jordan Miller, Mark Ramsey, Brent Ramsey, Jeff Bowen and John Powell.

DeBerry Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Marion Burlison

Marion Alberta Burlison, 82, of Denton, formerly of Gainesville, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at Denton Regional Medical Center.

She was born Jan. 24, 1919, in Bloomingburg, N.Y., to Arthur Bennett and Mabel Wheatley. On April 5, 1942, she married Amasa Baird Burlison in Guilford, N.Y. He is deceased.

Mrs. Burlison was a nurse's aid and a private caregiver.

In 1974, she became a Jehovah's Witness and volunteered her time to teach others about the Bible.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Brent Knipfer will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Oxford, N.Y. Geo. J. Carroll and Son Funeral Home of Gainesville is in charge of arrangements.

The family will be at the home of Arthur Burlison in Krum on the evening of Friday, April 27, for visitation.

Memorials may be made to Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Survivors include two daughters, Martha Baldwin of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Ruth Page of Windsor, N.Y.; five sons, John Burlison of Lisle, N.Y., Andrew Burlison of Greeley, Colo., George Burlison of Gainesville, David Burlison of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Arthur Burlison of Krum; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Her husband, Amasa, two sisters, and two brothers, are deceased.

Reba Ann Calk

Tioga - Reba Ann Calk, 71, of Tioga, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at her home.

She was born April 29, 1929, in Tioga, to Sigmund and Minnie Fries Suter. On April 23, 1954, she married Ralph Thomas Calk in Collinsville. He died April 23, 1997.

Mrs. Calk was a homemaker.

She was Catholic.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 27, in Tioga Cemetery. The Rev. Steve Newman will officiate.

The family will be at Huff/Slay Funeral Home in Pilot Point from 7 to 8 p.m. tonight, Thursday, April 26, for visitation.

Survivors include one son, Billy Calk of Tioga; two sisters, Loretta Scyrkels of Irving and Dorothy Wakefield of Denison.

Narciso Guerra

Narciso "Cecil" Guerra, 66, of Denton, died on Friday, April 20, 2001, at Skyview Living Center, where he lived most of his life.

He was born March 18, 1935, in Bremono, to Damacio Guerra and Juaqina Ramos.

Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 26, at Calvary Funeral Home in Irving.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday, April 27, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Dallas. Interment will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Irving.

Survivors include two brothers. His parents are deceased.

Rayma McMenamy

Aubrey - Rayma Lea McMenamy, 41, of Aubrey, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at the Baylor Medical Center in Dallas.

She was born Oct. 1, 1959, in Texarkana, Ark., to James Mason and Vedia Miller Mason. On May 16, 1987, she married Richard McMenamy at the Gribble Springs Baptist Church north of Denton.

Mrs. McMenamy was a school secretary for Aubrey Elementary School. She was active in the Relay for Life and was a basketball coach for the Aubrey Area Youth Sports.

A service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at New Hope Baptist Church in Aubrey. The Rev. Elmer Cummings will officiate. Burial will be in Belew Cemetery in Aubrey.

The family will be at DeBerry Funeral Directors of Denton from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 27, for visitation.

Survivors include two daughters, Danyell McMenamy and Amanda McMenamy, both of Aubrey; one son, Andy McMenamy of Aubrey; her parents of Cartwright, Okla.; three sisters, Vicki Mason of Virginia, Barb Mason of Elgin, Okla., and Donna Baker of Geronimo, Okla.; and one brother, James Mason Jr. of Virginia.

Tomas Pena Sr.

Tomas Pena Sr., 86, of Denton, died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at his residence.

He was born Sept. 22, 1914, in Hondo, to Indalecio de la Pena Sr. and Carmen de la Pena Dominquez. In 1940 he married Josephine Borjas in San Antonio.

Mr. Pena was employed at Pitts Industries in Carrollton before he retired.

He attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. tonight, Thursday, April 26, with visitation following at DeBerry Funeral Directors. Deacon Emilio "Popo" Gonzalez will officiate.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 27, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Father Mel Bessellieu will officiate. Burial will follow in Valley View Cemetery in Valley View.

Survivors include his wife of Denton; one daughter, Norma Pena of Denton; three sons, Thomas Pena Jr. of Denton, and Richard Pena and Gilbert Pena, both of Valley View; one sister, Carmen de la Pena of Corpus Christi; one brother, Indalecio de la Pena of San Antonio; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Felix Westmoreland II

Gilliland - Felix Orville Westmoreland II, 99, of Gilliland, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at Brookhaven Nursing Home.

He was born March 6, 1902, in Rockdale, to Felix Orville and Emma Scott Westmoreland.

Mr. Westmoreland lived in Rockdale until he was 6 years old and then moved to Gilliland. He was a retired farmer. At the age of 96 he had a stroke and developed Alzheimer's disease.

The service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 27, at First Baptist Church of Gilliland. The Rev. H.B. Graves will officiate. Interment will be in Truscott Cemetery in Truscott. Schmitz-Floyd-Anderson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include two daughters, Mildred Louise Ryder and Jodie Colleen Duncan, both of Dallas; one son, Felix Orville Westmoreland III of Gilliland; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. His wife, Cleo Frances, is deceased.

Gary F. Davenport

Gary Ferrell Davenport, 55, an always giving and loving, son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather and friend, went to his Father's arms Sunday morning, April 22, 2001, after a battle with cancer.

He was born in Dallas, Texas, on May 21, 1945, and resided in Argyle, Texas. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award me on that day and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing" 2 Timothy 4:7-8. Gary gave so freely of his love and self to so many people, touching so many lives.

He leaves behind his wife of 37 years, Sandy; son, Gary Hudson and wife Amber; three precious grandchildren, Dakota, Cooper and Maddison; mother and stepfather, Ida and Lloyd Turney; mother-in-law, Ollie Sharp; brother, Dennis and wife Jo; sister, Cindi and husband Jeff; brother-in-law, Kirk Sharp and wife Jan; step-brother, David Turney; step-sisters, Cherie Pierce and Renee Hale; eight nieces and nephews; one great-niece; and so many aunts, uncles, cousins and wonderful friends.

Gary was a businessman in Farmers Branch/Carrollton, Texas for 32 years. He was a member of the James A. Smith Masonic Lodge in Farmers Branch, local Shriner, a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Argyle and an on-going sponsor and supporter of many community organizations in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. "Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal" 2 Corinthians 4:15-18.

We would like to thank all the nurses and caregivers at the Medical Center of Lewisville for showing such loving compassion toward Gary and his family. The Davenport family is greatly appreciative of all prayers during this time. May God bless you all.

Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Restland Memorial Chapel, Greenville Avenue, 1/2 mile north of L.B.J., Dallas, with Brother Bill Pritchett and Mark Dallalio officiating.

Pallbearers will be Joe Sides, Bill Sides, Larry Chappell, Joe Wilhite, Jimmy Ray Weaver, Charles Weaver, Sonny Phillips, Floyd Phillips, Mike Phillips and Jack Halbert. Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Green, Robert Zane Nail, Jeff Henry, Edgar Blanco, Tommy Barnett, Hector Tierrofria, Donny Sides, Wilbur Lancaster and the Men's Group at First Baptist Church of Argyle, Texas.

Elizabeth Depp

Justin - Elizabeth Margaret Depp, 88, of Justin, died Monday, April 23, at Denton Community Hospital.

She was born Dec. 8, 1912, in Santa Monica, Calif., to William Archabald and Christina (Duncan) Reynard.

Mrs. Depp was an LVN.

Interment will follow in California at a later date.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary Correia of Rosemead, Calif.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Goen-Hudgens Funeral Chapel of Justin is in charge of arrangements.

Earl Kennedy

Pilot Point - Earl Francis Kennedy, 91, of Pilot Point, formerly of Ponder, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at Denton Community Hospital.

He was born Feb. 10, 1910, in Missouri to John Francis and Susie Caroline Baggerly Kennedy. On Feb. 4, 1933, he married Maxine McKethan Kennedy in Nevada, Mo. She died March 12, 1993.

Before retiring, Mr. Kennedy was a farmer in Missouri.

He attended Pilot Point Baptist Church and was active with the Pilot Point Roadrunners.

The graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 27, in Eakins Cemetery in Ponder. The Rev. Kim Broadstreet will officiate.

The family will be at DeBerry Funeral Directors from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 26, for visitation.

Survivors include one daughter, Arletta Bobbett of Pilot Point; one sister, Dorothy Reed of Missouri; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. His wife, daughter, Kita Maylene Kennedy, son, Gerald Francis Kennedy, and sister, Fern Zimmerman, are deceased.

Louise L. West

El Dorado, Kan. - Louise L. West, 83, had been a resident of Denton, Texas, since 1954. In June 2000, she moved to Kansas where she died April 20, 2001. A family graveside service will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton at 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, April 25, and will be followed by a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Denton, Texas. She was born in Oklahoma City on Dec. 23, 1917, to Oswin and Almeda Ludicke. She married Gaines West in Stillwater, Okla., on March 26, 1941. Louise was active in many organizations and enjoyed supporting good causes in the Denton area. She enjoyed traveling the world, playing bridge, reading, Bible study, friendships, and had a deep appreciation for fine art and music. She was a member of the First Christian Church and the Rebecca Circle. She had also been a member of the Denton Center Wives Club, Monday Bible Study, and several bridge clubs. She touched many lives with her generous spirit and always looked for the best in any situation.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Gaines and Susan West of College Station, Texas; a daughter and her husband, Linda and Don Billingsley of El Dorado, Kan.; one grandson and three granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents. Memorials may be made to Ann's Haven Hospice in Denton, Texas.

Gary F. Davenport
