Elizabeth L. Scone

Elizabeth L. Scone, 74, of Denton, modern language professor for 28 years at Texas Woman's University, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999, in Olympia Fields, Ill.

She was born May 3, 1925, in Rockford, Ill., to Thomas James Scone and Ethel B. (Bennett) Scone. She attended Rockford College and the University of New Mexico, where she received a bachelor's, master's and
doctorate degrees.

She was awarded a Fullbright Scholarship in 1950 and studied at the University of Bordeaux in France for a year.

She was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Modern Language Association, and the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portugese.

Survivors include two sisters, Anne Herschberger of Olympia Fields, Ill., and Mary Huidobro of Park Forest, Ill; five nieces and nephews; and nine grand-nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, in St. Mary's Cemetery in Rockford, Ill.

Memorials may be made to the Denton Humane Society, P.O. Box 1972, Denton, Texas 76202.

Hirsch Funeral Home of Chicago Heights, Ill., is in charge of arrangements.

Monena L. Roberts

Decatur - Monena Lovejoy Roberts, 83, of Decatur, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999, at Decatur Community Hospital.

She was born Feb. 2, 1916, in Oklahoma. She married Frank Roberts on April 5, 1935. He died in 1985.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, at Grace Baptist Church in Decatur. Gene Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

The family will be at Coker Funeral Home in Decatur from 7 to 8 tonight, Oct. 28, for visitation.

Pallbearers will be Kenny Lynn, Jeff Cox, Lelon Riley, Rusty North, Ashley and Jason Roberts.

Survivors include five sons, Travis Roberts of El Paso, Benny Roberts of Bridgeport, Cotton Roberts of Azle, and Corky and Bimbo Roberts, both of Decatur; six daughters, Doris Brown, Sue Jones and Betty Kennon, all of Decatur, Wanda Cox of Greenwood, Shirley Stewart of Alvord and Mary Lawrence of Missouri; one brother, Claude Lovejoy of Chico; 39 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.

Louis D. Barr

Louis Delmar Barr, 82, of Denton, passed away Monday, Oct. 25, 1999, at Vintage Health Care Center.

He was born Jan. 13, 1917, in Leonard, Texas, to John Delmar and Etta (Dees) Barr. He was married to Laura Murle Williams on June 15, 1947, in Gordonville, Texas. He graduated from Leonard High School and joined the U.S. Navy in 1942, serving until 1946. He and Murle moved to Denton in 1951. Mr. Barr was employed for 20 years with Spring Valley Construction Companies of Dallas.

Louis was a charter member of Asbury United Methodist church, founded in 1951, where he had been a member for 48 years. He served on various committees and was the church song leader for many years. He and others conducted the instruction classes for new members, where they gave a history of the church. Louis and Murle were active members of three trailer clubs, Happy Gadabouts, Travelin' Texans, and the Do Nothin's.

A memorial service for Mr. Barr will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, at Asbury United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jerry Putnam and Todd Sons, youth director, officiating.

Mr. Barr was a loving and giving man not only in life but also in death. He donated his body to the Willed Body Program at the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical School, in hopes that something may be learned from his suffering.

A graveside service wil be held at a later date at Allison Cemetery in Sandusky, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Vista Care Family Hospice, 625 Dallas Drive, Suite 350, Denton, Texas 76205; American Heart Association, Denton Division, P.O. Box 100, Denton, Texas 76201-0100; or the Asbury United Methodist Church, 1919 N. Elm St., Denton, Texas 76201.

Mr. Barr is survived by his daughter, Dr. Marilynn 'Birdie' Barr of Corinth; three grandsons, Matthew Barr of Richardson, Jeff Barr of McKinney, and Philip Barr of Denton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Murle, and son Larry.

Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

William G. Rosch, Jr.

William G. Rosch Jr., 89, of Denton, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999, at his residence.

He was born in Briarville, Minn., to William G. Rosch Sr. and Hattie Murgas Rosch Clabots. He married Martha Schutten on April 28, 1942, in Chicago, Ill. He attended Creighton University.

Mrs. Rosch was employed by the diplomatic corps in Washington, D.C. and as assistant to under secretary of state for seven years and retired in 1970.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Denton, and Knights of Columbus in St. Paul, Minn.

Rosary will be said at 8 p.m. tonight in the chapel of DeBerry Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic church with Father Karl Schilken officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Ann's Haven Hospice VNA.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Schutten Rosck of Denton; daughter, Peggy Pourchot Philbin of Oklahoma City, Okla.; son, William G. Rosch III of Houston; sister, Mildred Mangan of Chicago, Ill.; brother, Bud Clabots of St. Paul, Minn.; and four grandchildren, Emily Shaffer, Jennie Pourchot, Alex Rosch and Victoria Rosch.

Janette S. Covey

Janette Sue Covey, 68, of Denton, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999, at her residence.

She was born in Bowie to Willie Burch Brice and Velma Stone Brice. She attended Bowie High School.

Mrs. Covey was the manager of University of Texas Bookstore until she retired on Dec. 31, 1993 after 27 years of employment.

She was a member of First Methodist Church of Bowie.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, in the chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Bowie.

Survivors include two daughters and son-in-laws, Jill and her husband David Miller of Wichita Falls and Lynne and her husband Scott Langdale of Baytown; and three grandchildren, Aaron Brice Gibson, Colton Lee Wilson and Cody Franklin Wilson.

Cicero Murdock

Cicero Murdock, 90, of Denton died Friday, Oct. 29, 1999, at Denton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

He was born April 21, 1909, in Goldsboro to John Cicero and Lenora Beard Murdock. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Murdock was a truck driver for Frank Scott Transportation Co.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 1, in the chapel of Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home. Alvis Nichols will officiate. Burial will follow at Bourland Cemetery in Keller.

Survivors include four nieces.

Harry Richter

Aubrey - Harry William Richter, 73, of Aubrey died Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999, at Denton Community Hospital.

He was born May 24, 1926, in Otis, Kan., to William L. Richter and Tracy Hejny Richter. He married Pamela Ann Reilly Dec. 1, 1997, in Richardson.

He was a driver for the Greens Point Savings Bank when he retired. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a former post commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Bellerose, N.Y.

Rosary services will be Sunday, Oct. 31, at 7 p.m. at the DeBerry Funeral Chapel in Denton.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 1, at St. Mark Catholic Church in Denton with Father Bob Lewandowski officiating. Burial will be at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Pinelawn, N.Y.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Survivors include his wife of Aubrey; a daughter, Sandie Schneider of Bayside, N.Y.; a sister, Juanita Weathers of Great Bend, Kan.; a brother, Melvin Richter of Great Bend, Kan.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Corynne Sullivan

Snyder - Corynne Price Sullivan, 91, of Snyder, formerly of Sweetwater, died Friday, Oct. 29, 1999, at Snyder Health Care Center.

She was born July 31, 1908, in Pilot Point. She married Loren Walter Sullivan Sept. 14, 1927, in Pilot Point. He died Aug. 25, 1972.

She was terminal manager for Greyhound, TNMO and Trailways Bus Lines. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Sweetwater, the Business and Professional Women Association and the Highland Garden Club.

Service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 1, at McCoy Chapel of Memories at McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater. Burial will be at Pilot Point Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bill Sullivan, John Sullivan, Wesley Kruger, Gary Cain, Jimmy Myers and Tommy Self.

Survivors include four grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter; a son, Loren Walter Sullivan Jr.; two sisters; and one brother.

James M. Smith

Roanoke - James Michael Smith, a longtime resident of Roanoke, was suddenly taken from us on Oct. 26, 1999, as a result of an automobile accident at the age of 62-years-old.

He was born Dec. 2, 1936, in Ashville, N.C., to Howard and Muriel Smith.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Hilltop Church of Christ in Roanoke.

He and his brother David were longtime managers of the 114 Storage in Roanoke and James was currently the manager of the Lake Ray Roberts Dry Boat Storage Inc. in Sanger. His brother David preceded him in death in 1998. He is also preceded in death by his mother.

A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 1, in the chapel of Goen-Hudgens Funeral Home in Justin with Lonnie Davis officiating. Cremation will take place at a later date.

He is survived by his twin daughters Janet Lee Smith and Tammy Lynn Smith, both of Florida, and by his son, James Smith, also of Florida. James is also survived by friends Larry Smith of Trophy Club, Texas, and Brian Carpenter of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and by his friends of the Pinecreek Village Mobile Home Park.

Joe Clark Sr.

Paris, Texas - Joe Louis Clark Sr., 79, of Paris died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at Christus-St. Joseph's Hospital.

He was born March 1, 1922, in Red River County to William Riley and Ayna Beard Clark. He married Nora Elizabeth McNeely in Greenville on Nov. 3, 1944. She died Oct. 22, 1997.

Mr. Clark served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and a member of Plumbers and Steam Fitters Local Union No. 100 of Garland.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. today, April 20, in Evergreen Cemetery. The Rev. Fred Frangio will officiate. Bright-Holland Funeral Home of Paris is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include one son, Joe L. Clark of Denton; one daughter, Terry Dian Gibson of Paris; two sisters, Sybil Taylor of Rowlett and Annabell Forsyth of Rockwall; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Scotty Fred Clark; three half-sisters, Janie Bennett, Billie Collard and Peggy Owens; and five half-brothers, Vernon Clark, Otto Clark, Jess Clark, Earl Clark, and Kenneth Clark.

Janice Khan

Janice Khan, 46, of Denton died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Denton Community Hospital.

Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home.

Robert Milburn

Lake Dallas - Robert L. Milburn, 80, of Lake Dallas died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at the Medical Plaza of Fort Worth.

He was born Nov. 1, 1920, in Benjamin.

Mr. Milburn worked as a front manager for A&P Grocery before his retirement.

He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the First Baptist Church of Lake Dallas.

The service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at the First Baptist Church in Lake Dallas. The Rev. Daniel Patrick will officiate. Burial will be in Swisher Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today, April 20, at DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton.

Survivors include his wife, Pearl Milburn of Lake Dallas; five daughters, Paulette Wells of Valley View, Donna Greenhill of Sanger, Judy Purser of Lewisville, and Barbara Pyles and Marilyn Beaty, both of Lake Dallas; four sons, Roger Milburn of Fort Worth, Derryl Milburn of Sanger, Larry Milburn of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Tommy Purser of Ponder; one sister, Sybol Moody of San Angelo; 23 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
