Hollis D. Kirkland, Sr.

July 1, 1940 - June 11, 2006

Hollis D. Kirkland, Sr., 65, of Bay City died June 11, 2006.

He was born July 1, 1940 in Bay City to Walter Maine and Esther Naomi Morris Kirkland.

Hollis attended Bay City Public Schools from the first grade thru the eleventh. During High School he began working at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. In 1960 he enrolled in the Dallas Institute-Gupton Jones Mortuary School and graduated in 1961. He worked as a funeral director and embalmer in Galveston, Texas; Dyersburg, Tennessee and Dayton, Texas before accepting a position with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City from 1970 to 1976. After working in the Insurance Business in Louisiana, he returned to his life's work as a funeral director with Taylor Bros. In 1979 and remained there until his death. He served as Funeral Director In Charge for the Palacios Funeral Home for many years.

Hollis joined the Bay City Lions Club over 26 years ago. He served as Lion Tamer, Tail Twister and served on the Board of Directors several times. He worked as a member of the Rice Festival Committee several times and served as Bingo Chairperson for over 20 years. He was also a very active member of The Bay City Coastalaires. He touched the lives of many during his years at Taylor Bros.

Survivors include: his wife, Beverly Joice Kirkland of Bay City; sons, Hollis D. "Kirk" Kirkland, Jr. and wife Maria of Bay City and Bryan Keith Coston Kirkland of Bay City; grandchildren, Christian N. Kirkland, Christopher Ferina and Brenda Valencia all of Bay City; mother-in-law, Edith Joice of Bay City; his wife's children, April and husband Lonnie Jones and their children, Mollie, Dustin and Bethany of Birmingham, Alabama, Amber Siptak of Birmingham, Alabama and AshLee Rutledge of Knoxville, Tennessee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Jane Gayle Kirkland and brother David Kirkland.

Funeral service will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Bay City with the Rev. Sam Starks, the Rev. C. M. Becton and the Rev. Marvin Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Hawley Cemetery in Blessing.

Pallbearers will be Simon DeSoto, Adrian Fulton, Charles Townsend, James Starks, Larry Dulany, and George Agnew.

Honorary pallbearers include his co-workers from Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, members of the Bay City Coastalaires, members of the Bay City Lions Club, Darrell Rutledge and Jimmy Garza.

Memorials may be made to the Bay City Coastalaires, c/o Thomas Pivonka, 3106 15th St., Bay City, TX 77414.

Floyd Wiley

Oct. 18, 1936 - June 17, 2006

Funeral services for Floyd Wiley, 69, of Bay City, will be held Saturday, June 17, 2006, at 11 a.m., at St. John Baptist Church, Van Vleck, with the Rev. Ruben Newell, pastor, and the Rev. Curtis Wiley, Sr., eulogist. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 3 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.

He was born in Van Vleck, Texas, October 18, 1936, to Charlie Wiley and Addie Hayes Wiley, and passed away June 9, 2006, in Bay City, Texas.

Survivors include: two brothers, R.A. Wiley and Dorothy, and Charlie Wiley, Jr. and Lee Ella, and a very devoted sister-in-law, Wanda Flagg Davis, all of Bay City. Also a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Recie Wiley, Jr., Terry Wiley, Sr., Kerwin Wiley, Dante' Wiley, Stanley Wiley, Bobby Flagg, Floyd Williams, Curtis Austin and Freddie Allen, Jr.

Arrangements are with Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home, Bay City, Texas.

Turino Banyansco

Jan. 20, 1917 - June 6, 2006

Turino Banyansco, age 89, of Matagorda, died Tuesday, June 6, 2006 in Wharton following an extended illness.

He was born on January 20, 1917 in Matagorda, son of the late Pietro Banyansco and Carrie Clay Banyansco.

Mr. Banyansco was a life long resident of Matagorda. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Matagorda. Mr. Banyansco was employed as a Tug Boat Deck Hand until his retirement. He loved gardening, especially growing grapefruit and oranges, and he loved to visit with friends, whether they were old friends or people he just met.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 8, 2006 at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Storey officiating. Interment followed in the Matagorda Cemetery in Matagorda, Texas.

Survivors include: his sisters, Roma Savage and November Jaynes both of Wharton; nieces and nephews, Mary Ann Kiel of Richmond, Cynthia Orsak of Wharton, Bobby Jaynes Jr. of Kemah, Margie Morris of College Station, Mary Jane Walls and Dorothy Walls both of Palacios and Jessie Zaro of Galveston.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Mahavier Ryman and Katie Hicks; brothers, Phillip Banyansco, Pete Banyansco and Ned Banyansco.

If desiring, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Matagorda, Texas 77457.

Jerold Reagan Lipp

Jan. 20, 1964 - June 7, 2006

Jerold Reagan Lipp, 42, of Van Vleck, died on June 7, 2006 at Triumph Hospital South West, Sugarland, Texas.

He was born January 20, 1964 in Houston, Texas to Leon Herman Lipp and Billie Louise Boyd.

Jerry worked as an electronics specialist (Cyclops Machine) on the Men's Professional Tennis Circuit.

Survivors include: sisters, Robin Ann and Misty Ann Parker of Houston, Texas; and brother, Leon Herman Lipp, Jr of Kaukauna, Wisconsin.

Cremation/Memorial service to be announced.

Bertha Rodriguez

Nov. 8, 1924 - June 8, 2006

Bertha Rodriguez, 81, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2006 at her home in Bay City.

She was born November 8, 1924 to the late Lorenzo and San Juana Rodriguez in Cuero. Mrs. Rodriguez was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

She is survived by: her children, Bertha and Abelardo Morales of Freer, Ralph Rodriguez of Bay City, Arthur, Jr. and Delia Rodriguez of Bay City, Carmen and Bryan Chancy of Houston, Bobby and Sue Rodriguez of Bay City, Janie and Sergio San Miguel of Bay City, Rudy and Chriselda Garza of Bay City, Becky Rodriguez of Bay City, Rachel and Santos Martinez of Corpus Christi, Jessica and Jessie Oros of Bay City, and Jennifer and David Villa of Bay City; 34 grandchildren; 80 great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her husband, Santos Garza and son, Ruben Rodriguez.

A Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 11, 2006 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel. A Mass will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 12, 2006 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Father Gerry Cernoch officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mrs. Rodriguez's grandsons: Rudy Garza, Sergio San Miguel, Jr., Randy Rodriguez, Christopher Rodriguez, Steven San Miguel, and Robert Rodriguez.

Honorary Pallbearers will be her sons-in-law: Abelardo Morales and Sergio San Miguel, Sr..

Maggie Sardinea

Jan. 11, 1948 - June 3, 2006

Funeral services for Maggie Sardinea, 58, of Bay City, Texas was at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 10, 2006 at the Mother Zion Baptist Church in Bay City with the Rev. Ben Haden, officiating. Burial will be in Brazoria, Texas at St. Paul Cemetery.

Maggie was born January 11, 1948 in Bay City, Texas.

Maggie leaves to mourn her loving family: two daughters, Lonnie Marie "Cookie" Spann and Angela Sardinea; four sons, Lonnie Sardinea, Jr. , Tydarrel Sardinea, Sr. (Angela), Byron Sardinea (Twila) and Eddie Williams; 18 grandchildren; and six and a half great grandchildren. Many loving relatives and friends.

Maggie will lie in state at the church from 10 a.m. till services time. Visitation was Friday in the Chapel of Green's Mortuary from noon until 8 p.m. June 9, 2006.

Maggie died Saturday, June 3, 2006 in Bay City, Texas with friends and family around her.

The family had entrusted their love one to the Caring Professionals of Green's Mortuary, 2702 Ave. C, Bay City, Texas 979-245-3489.

E. Clarice Walters

Sept. 13, 1928 - May 30, 2006

Funeral services for E. Clarice Walters, 77, were held at 3 p.m., Friday, June 2, 2006, in the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel, with the Bro. Harold Issacs officiating. Burial followed at Peebles Cemetery.

Mrs. Walters died Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at Memorial Health System of East Texas in Lufkin.

She was born September 13, 1928 in Goodrich, Texas, the daughter of W. V. Holliday and Lennie Galloway Holliday. She was proceeded in death by her parents, sisters, Hazel Selzer, Mavis Inderman, and brother, Walter V. "Bud" Holliday.

Survivors include: her husband, Lelon E. Walters of Providence; sons and daughters-in-law, James E. and Suzy Walters of Bay City, Joseph M. Walters of Providence, David D. and Amber Walters of Goodrich, and Daryl Lee and Terry Walters of Providence; grandchildren, Keith A. Walters of Bay City, Michael and Huda Hill of Livingston, BC and Natasha Compton of Livingston, Rylan Walters of Providence, Sydney Walters of Goodrich, Trenton and Drake Kirkland of Providence, and great-grandchildren, Marc. A. and Asher N. Walters of Bay City, Haven and Blake Compton, Nicholas and Kristana Abdallah all of Livingston; sisters, Bernice Walker of Conroe and Flo Newby of Universal City.

William Louis Malek

Dec. 29, 1925 - June 4, 2006

William Louis Malek departed this life June 4, 2006.

He was born December 29, 1925 in Yoakum, Texas to Edmund and Mary Maresh Malek.

He retired in 1988 as foreman of Channel Industries Gas/Tenneco after over 40 years in the Oilfield Business. He served in WWII as Army Staff Sergeant where he was awarded Army of Occupation Medal and WWII Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal.

John Edward Sabrsula

Sept. 18, 1967 - June 3, 2006

John Edward Sabrsula, 38, of Bay City passed away June 3, 2006.

He was born September 18, 1967 in Wharton, Texas to Lee Roy and Henrietta Phillips Sabrsula.

He was a dispatcher for Alamo Concrete and had managed the Rebels Men's Softball Team since 1991. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and organizing benefit BBQ's.
