WADSWORTH
Albert Hodges Wadsworth, Jr. was born in Bay City, Texas on October 11, 1916, and died January 29, 2005 at home surrounded by his loving family.
He is a member of an old and distinguished Texas family who arrived on the Texas Gulf Coast in the early 1830s.
The family settled Matagorda County and Wadsworth, Texas.
He is predeceased by: his first wife, Julia Denton Wadsworth; grandparents, Julia Amelia Hodges and Albert Wadsworth of Matagorda, and Dr. Judson and Ellen Amelia Andrews of Wharton, Texas; and his parents, Lurline Andrews and Albert Hodges Wadsworth Sr. of Bay City, Texas.
He attended Bay City High School and graduated from Kemper military School in Boonville, Missouri.
He received a M.A. in geology from the University of Texas in Austin, where he was president of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity in 1941.
Early in his career, he was a geological scout for Texaco in Midland, a field geologist for the United States Geological survey in all western states, an exploration and production manager for Commonwealth Oil Company in Houston and spent most of his career as an independent oil producer and mining consultant.
He conducted oil operations in the Gulf Coast of Texas and Louisiana, as well as mining exploration and operations in Spain, Haiti, Brazil, Germany Dominican Republic, Mexico, Central America and the western United States.
His last work effort will result in a well being drilled after his death.
He was instrumental in starting The Gulf Coast Geological Library.
He is the founder and original board member of the Society of Independent Professional Earth Scientists (SIPES) and was awarded an honorary membership.
After 20 years, he was re-elected to the SIPES board of directors.
He conducted seminars for the AFL-CIO, at the Aspen Institute of Humanistic Studies, on the value of a strong domestic oil industry.
He lectured in New York to the Leviticus group of district attorneys and state securities officials.
He was an industry spokesman and traveled often to Austin and Washington to support legislation for independent oil production. During the Ford Administration, his efforts saved the depletion allowance for independents.
He is a member of AAPG, Houston Geological Society, past president of The Association of Petroleum Geochemical Exploration (ARGE).
He served on the board of directors of Kemper military School for 11 years and was chairman of the board for three years.
He most enjoyed hunting and fishing and being with family and friends at the Wadsworth Ranch in Blessing, Texas, where we all learned to hunt, ride, gather eggs in the hen house, pick dewberries and make fresh cobbler.
We enjoyed his barbeque, fried oysters and gumbo and played Gusher into the wee hours of the morning.
We will never forget these cherished memories with our Daddy.
He is survived by: his wife, Glenrose; daughters, Jane Frances Wadsworth Mason, both of Houston, Julia Rosine Wadsworth Stout and husband Stephen of Durango, Colorado, Ellen Amelia Wadsworth of Austin, Randa McDonough and husband Jerry of Dallas, and Marc Howton of Florida; grandchildren, Jay H. Rambin IV, Hayley Jane Wadsworth Dickson, Julia Wadsworth Mason; nieces, Molly Denton Yates and Julia Hale; and nephew, Ashley Hale; and cousins, Drew Reid and wife Liz and Joe Monty Reid.
Pallbearers are Jay Rambin, Stephen Stout, Drew Reid, Joe Monty Reid, Marc Howton, Mike Sullivan, Lucius Geer, John Amoruso and Jim Lewis.
Honorary pallbearers are Jack Huebner, Jerry McDonough, Debra Sacrey, Boo Neary, Gibbons Corbett and Jack Colle.
Services for Albert Hodges Wadsworth will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 3, 2005, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Bay City, Texas.

Sister Eileen Gurecky
Sister Eileen Gurecky, 59, of Victoria, died on April 11, 2005, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Sister Eileen was born in El Campo, Texas, November 13, 1945, to the late Louis and Julie Kacer Gurecky.
Sister Eileen completed her grade school education at Blessing Elementary and graduated from Nazareth Academy in Victoria.
Sister Eileen received a B.A. degree, with a major in elementary education and a minor in history, from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas.
She was awarded a M.Ed. degree, with a major in educational administration and minors in psychology and sociology, from South Texas State University.
Sister Eileen was received into the Novitiate of the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament on August 6, 1964.
She made first profession of vows on August 6, 1965 and pronounced her final vows on August 6, 1970.
During her years of active ministry, Sister Eileen taught at Sacred Heart School in Crosby, Nazareth Academy in Victoria, and at St. Leo School and Blessed Sacrament School in San Antonio.
She also served as principal at Blessed Sacrament School for 18 years.
She received the Catholic Educator’s Award from the San Antonio Archdiocese in 1996.
Sister Eileen was an avid sports fan with a special love of the San Antonio Spurs.
She loved to travel and had the opportunity to travel abroad to Ireland, Italy, and participated in the Marian Tour of Fatima, Lourdes, Garabandal, and Medjugorie.
Sister Eileen has a special love for the students, parents, faculty, staff, administration and parishioners of Blessed Sacrament Parish School in San Antonio, where she last ministered as a school principal.
She is fondly remembered as a Super Nun, Guardian Angel, Fun-loving prankster, Fundraiser Queen and friend.
Sister Eileen Gurecky was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Louis Gurecky.
Survivors are: sister, Dorothy and Eugene Dusek of San Diego, California; brother, Edward and Diana Gurecky of El Maton, Texas; and nephews, Paul Dusek, Lee and Adam Gurecky.
The body will be received at Incarnate Word Convent at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 15, 2005, followed by a scriptural rosary.
A wake service, followed by sharing of memories, will be at 7 p.m. on April 15, 2005, at the Convent.
There will be a 9:30 a.m. Rosary, followed by the Mass of the Resurrection at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2005, at the convent.
Pallbearers are A.J. Kacer, Joe Kacer, Milton Kacer, Joe Gurecky, Leonard Gurecky and Tommy Orsak.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Bruce Bauknight and IWC Nursing Staff.

Doris Elaine HASKELL
Doris Elaine Haskell, 71, of Bay City, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2005 at her residence following a long illness.
She taught school for many years in the Bay City Independent School District and at Holy Cross Catholic School before retiring several years ago.
Doris was born on April 24, 1933, in Washington D.C. to parents, Albert B. and Dagmar Harton Crosswait.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her first husband John Manuel, Sr.; and by her second husband, Clarence Krenek.
She is survived by: her husband, William Haskell of Bay City; son, John Manuel; daughters and son-in-laws, Catherine and Alan Hays and Michelle and Ron Long; step-daughter and husband, Linda and Jerome Begnaud; step-son and wife, Mark and Debbie Haskell; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
A time of visitation with the family was from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, April 11, at the Bay City Funeral Home.
Funeral services were at 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tom Morgan officiating.
Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.
The family has requested that memorial donations be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church or to the American Cancer Society.

Elizabeth VACEK
Elizabeth McEntire Vacek, 85, of Bay City died April 9, 2005 at Bay Villa Nursing Home in Bay City.
She was born September 19,1919 in El Campo, Texas, to the late Adolph and Anna Simicek Heinrich.
Mrs. Vacek was a resident of Bay City the past seven years, a former longtime resident of Palacios, and was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Palacios.
Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Betty and James Vacek, Sr.; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Neal and Martha McEntire, Jr., all of Palacios; sister, Ethel Gavranovic of Wharton, Texas; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three step-great- grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: her sisters, Mary Bohuslav, Millie and Annie Kutach and Molly Zickhurall; and brothers, John, Louie and Louie II, Heinrich.
Rosary was held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel.
The funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, with the Rev. Charles Dwomoh officiating. Interment will follow at Palacios Cemetery.

Funeral services for Demosesneeds Leon Williams, 35, of Angleton, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 14, 2005, at Bethlehem Christian Church, Cedar Lake, with the Rev. K.W. Bree, pastor, and Elder Fred Jones, eulogist.
Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 until 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home chapel, with family visitation from 6 until 8 p.m.
He was born in Bay City, Texas, October 4, 1969, to Fred Baugh, Jr. and Velva Williams and passed away April 7, 2005 in Houston, Texas.
A correctional officer with Ramsey Unit 1 in Rosharon, Texas, he is survived by: his mother, Velva Williams of Angleton; one sister, Shanetta Beard of Houston; nine aunts; five uncles; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Active pallbearers will be Cedric Dunevant, Ronnie Hill, Terry Mack, Arthur McBride, Adewale Sallu and Nathaniel Wade.

Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery in Cedar Lane.

Howard Derick Rowell

Derick Rowell, age 42, of Allen, Texas, passed away on Sept. 17, 2005, in Matagorda, Texas.
He was born on Jan. 1, 1963, in McAllen, Texas, to Edwin Jackson and Lynette (Andrus) Rowell. Derick was a self-employed businessman.
Derick is survived by: his wife of 13 years, Kim Rowell of Allen; mother, Lynette Andrus Rowell of McKinney, Texas; children, Heith Benzine and wife, Ellen, of Richardson, Texas, Aaron Benzine of Allen; Chris Rowell of McKinney, and Stephen Rowell of Allen; brother, Jon Rowell and wife Jeanie of McAllen, Texas; brothers-in-law, Terry Jones and wife Vickie and Mark Jones and wife Debbie; mother-in-law, Dixie Sager; nephews, Michael and Ray Rowell, Bryan Jones and wife Kristin, Justin Jones and Tristin Jones; nieces, Staci Jones, Angela Griffin and Audrey and Allyson Parks; and his very best friend since childhood, Jerry Don Pyle.
His father, Edwin Jackson Rowell, precedes him in death.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel.
Visitation will be from 6:30 until 9 p.m. Wednesday evening at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home.
Rena Broughton

Rena Elizabeth Bailey Broughton, 97, of Bay City, passed away Monday, September 19, 2005, at her residence.
She was born on October 3, 1907, in Matagorda, Texas, to parents Weston and Annie Nolte Bailey.
She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Bay City and volunteered for many local service organizations in Bay City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William Herwin Broughton, and a son, Weldon Eugene Broughton.
She is survived by: grandchildren, Weldon and Lisa Broughton, and Laura and Lee Ball; a daughter-in-law and close friend, Nan Broughton; and great-grandchildren, Tyler Ball, Heather Broughton, Hayley Ball, Larielle Badon and Hunter Ball; her caretaker, Willie Bonner; as well as her other caretakers.
A private burial will be at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City and a memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, September 30, 2005, at the First Baptist Church of Bay City, with Dr. Michael Zimmerman officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Broughton, Frank Sliva, Paul Sliva, Andy Anderson, Courtney Grover, Bruce Glover and Bill Heiligbrodt.
