JOHNSON
Gary Dee Johnson, 55, of Bay City, died January 9, 2005 at his residence.
He was born October 6, 1949, in Burlington, Iowa, to Dale E. and Ethel M. Swanson Johnson.
Mr. Johnson was a resident of Bay City for the past six years, a former longtime resident of Lincoln, Nebraska, and a former resident of Danville, Iowa.
He was the owner and operator of Johnson Manufacturing Co.
Survivors include: his wife, JoAnn Johnson of Bay City; parents, Dale and Ethel Johnson of Danville, Iowa; sisters, Joanie Bence of Burlington, Iowa, and Judy Smith of Des Moines. Iowa; and three step-daughters: Crystal Hollatz of Bay City, Texas, Shiela Cain of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Jessie Coddell of Dixon, Illinois.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 12, 2005, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, with the Rev. Eric Klimpel officiating.
Following the funeral service, he will be transferred to Burlington, Iowa, where there will be a service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 15, 2005, at the Lunning Funeral Chapel in Burlington, Iowa.
Interment will follow at the Long Creek Cemetery in Danville, Iowa.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

HAGGARD
Ward Milton Haggard, born on October 13, 1916, to Jimmie and Karl Haggard in Matagorda County, Texas, died January 8, 2005.
Ward was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister in law, Archie Karl and Mary Louise Haggard.
Ward is survived by: his loving wife of 63 years, Jo Beth Haggard; brother, W.A. Haggard; children, Elizabeth Ann Jackson and husband Bob, Ward M. Haggard, Jr. and wife Dee and Herbert Montgomery Haggard; grandchildren, Blakeley Anne Amerio and husband Jim, Travis Scott Haggard, Benjamin Patrick Haggard, Andrew Bowman Haggard and Clifford Ward Haggard; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Ward attended Boling High School in New Gulf, Texas, and the University of Texas, where he received a degree in Petroleum Engineering.
During World War II, he served as a pilot in the Army Air Corps.
A longtime resident of Beaumont, Texas, Ward owned and operated an oil and gas service company and held several U.S. patents for oil field operations.
He was a charter member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church of Beaumont, Texas, where he served as deacon and trustee.
His family would like to thank the staff of The Hallmark and, in particular, Debbie Tyler and Abbie Palmer for their loving care.
Friends are invited to visitation with the family from 2 until 4 p.m. on Tuesday, January 11, 2005 at Geo. H. Lewis and Sons, 1010 Bering Drive.
Graveside services and interment will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 13, 2005, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 4955 Pine Street, Beaumont, Texas, with the Rev. Harland Merriam officiating.

MATHEWS
Alice E. Mathews, 70, of Sargent, Texas, died January 10, 2005, at Brazosport Memorial Hospital in Freeport, Texas.
She was born September 16, 1934, in Ottawa, Illinois, to the late Fred and Hazel Marie Knox Dalhem.
She was a member of the Baptist Church, a resident of Sargent for the past 23 years, and a former resident of La Porte, Texas.
Survivors include: daughter, Stacey Roth of Kingwood, Texas; three grandchildren, Christina Roth of Richmond, Texas, Tia Knoll and Steven Knoll, both of Kingwood.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Raymond L. Mathews; her three sisters; and two brothers.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, January 13, 2005, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.
Interment will follow at Restwood Cemetery in Lake Jackson, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Tom Seabaugh, Brandon Kovar, Bill Mertink, Richard Poklikuha, Lee Barnfield and Vondell Houser.

SCOTT
Funeral services for Jimmie Scott, Sr., 79, of Bay City, will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 15, 2005, at First Sacred Memorial Christian Church in Bay City, with the Rev. Terrell Aldridge, eulogist.
Burial will follow at Hudgins Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 3 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.
He was born in the Hudgins’ Settlement, December 24, 1925, to Nathaniel Scott and Matilda Taylor Scott, and passed away January 7, 2005, in Bay City, Texas.
Survivors include: wife, Luvella Scott; two sons, Jimmie Scott, Jr. and Frank Scott and Brenda, all of Bay City; also four sisters, N.B. Greenwood of Merced, California, Josie Green and Cody Harkless, both of Bay City, and Ollie Harrison of Galveston; one brother, Willie Davis; six grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Active pallbearers will be Gulf Coast Masonic Lodge No. 272, where he served as past Grand Master.

CLARK
Everet David Clark, 89, of Bay City, passed away Monday, January 31, 2005 in Houston, Texas.
He was born September 19, 1915 near Herpel, Arkansas, to Robert and Laura Brown Clark.
He was a resident of Bay City for the past 30 years and a former resident of Pasadena.
He is survived by: his sister-in-law, Ola Walker of Alabama; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: wife, Lois Balentine Clark; parents, Robert and Laura Clark; sister, Elsie Bryant Clark; and brothers, Walter, Willard and Clyde Clark.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 3, 2005, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel.

KRENEK
Joe W. Krenek, 84, of Wharton, died Saturday, January 29, 2005, at his residence.
He was born on August 16, 1920 in Wharton, the son of the late John Peter Krenek and Mary Bartos Krenek.
Mr. Krenek was a life-long resident of Wharton and a graduate of Wharton High School.
He was a veteran of WW II, having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from July of 1942 until October of 1945.
He served as a waist gunner and assistant radio operator, 360th Bombardment Squadron, 303 Bombardment Group, based in England with the 8th Air Force.
He flew 25 bombing missions from November 1943 through March 1944 over France and Germany.
He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, three Oak Leaf Clusters, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal and Unit Citation Medal.
He achieved the rank of staff sergeant and served with military Police for two months before his discharge.
He married Myrtle Marie Rasmussen on February 8, 1945 in Boise, Idaho.
Mr. Krenek was employed as a field mechanic by Texas Gulf Sulphur for 35 years until his retirement in 1982.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
He was a member of the Wharton VFW and the Wharton American Legion Post No. 87, where he held various offices in both.
His hobbies included dominoes, dancing and gardening.
He was a devoted husband and father, who enjoyed watching the antics of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral mass services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 2, 2005, at Holy Family Catholic Church, with Father Joe Vrana officiating.
military graveside services and interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery under the auspices of the Wharton VFW.
Rosary services were held Tuesday evening at the Wharton Funeral Home with Deacon Alvin Matthys officiating.
Survivors include: his wife, Myrtle Krenek of Wharton; daughters, Karen Owens and husband, Billy of Bay City, and Teena Middleton and husband, Bruce of Katy; sons, David Krenek and wife, Mary of San Jose, California, Michael Krenek and wife, Sharon of Spring, Texas, and Wayne Krenek and wife, Jeanette of Wharton; sisters, Agnes Spurr and Martha Welfel, both of Wharton, and Helen Miller of Bellaire; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in death by: sisters, Frances Bedynek and Mary Borak; and by a granddaughter, Sara Krenek.

PETERSEN
Lawrence J. Petersen, 73, passed away on January 31, 2005, at his home in Danevang.
He was born on February 13, 1931 in Danevang, to the late Verner A. and Louise Olson Petersen.
He served in the U.S. Army at Fort Bliss during the Korean Conflict.
He earned a degree in agricultural engineering from Texas A&I University.
He was currently serving as trustee on the Wharton County Junior College Board of Directors, having served six years as chairman.
He also was a present member of the Commercial State Bank Board of Directors, served 20 years on the Board of Cotton Incorporated, which promotes cotton research and marketing, helped initiate and served as president of the South Texas Cotton and Grain Assoc., served as past president of Texas Pest Management and was a former Sunday School teacher at the First Baptist Church.
He is survived by: his wife, Gloria McDonald Petersen of Danevang; daughters, Pamela Pope and husband, J. Paul of Reston, Virginia, and Laurie Martin and husband, Jimmy of Frankfurt, Germany; son, Kyle Petersen and wife Andrea of Chicago, Illinois; grandchildren, Travis Pope, Angela Martin, Corie Pope, Leah Martin, Karis Martin, Jesi Petersen and Scott Petersen; and brother, Ralph Petersen of Danevang.
Visitation will begin at noon on Wednesday.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, at Triska Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, at the First Baptist Church in El Campo, with the Rev. Rick DuBroc officiating.
Interment will be in the Danevang Lutheran Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Travis Pope, Jimmy Barger, Edgar Beyer, Darryl Petersen, Donald McDonald, Jr., and Mickey McDonald.
Honorary pallbearers are his granddaughters.
Memorials in memory of Lawrence Petersen may be made to the Danish Heritage Museum in Danevang.

REYNOLDS
Avis June Hawes Reynolds, 79, passed away January 29, 2005, in Bay City, Texas.
She was born June 15, 1925, in Seadrift, Texas, to the late Albert B. and Martha Avis Cunningham Hawes.
She married John W. Reynolds in Seadrift, Texas, on January 27, 1945.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bay City and the VFW Auxiliary Post 4403 of Port Lavaca.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, John W. Reynolds; and one brother-in-law, L.M. Young.
She is survived by: her sister, Lawrene Young of Holly Lake Ranch, Texas; brother, Ray Hawes and wife, Jean of Joshua, Texas; two daughters, Adelle Farmer and husband, Frank of Bay City, Texas, and Penni Porder and husband, Jim of Cummings, Georgia; four grandchildren, Jennifer and husband, David, Jamie, Sarah and husband, Alan, and Patrick; one nephew, Hugh; one niece, Lisa; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers are: Andy Anderson, Nouhad MaMoun, Billie Mann, John McMillan, Woody Riedel, and Quentin Watkins.
A viewing will be held from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday, February 2, 2005, at First Baptist Church in Bay City.
The service will begin at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Michael Zimmerman and the Rev. Hollie Briscoe officiating.
Interment will be at Seadrift Cemetery at 3 p.m.
