Irineo Salmeron, 69, passed away April 27. The longtime El Paso resident was a music lover who was self-employed and retired after 40 years. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Lydia Salmeron, their children — Rodolfo Salmeron, Irineo Salmeron Jr., Blanca Sal-meron, Maria R. Salmeron, Elsa V. Salmeron, Sylvia Salmeron and Lydia M. Sal-meron. Surviving grandchildren are Rodolfo Salmeron Jr., Omar Salmeron, Tony Salmeron, Anika Salmeron, Krystal Salmeron, Ruben Salmeron, Marisol Salmeron, Cristiana Salmeron, Lydia Salmeron III, Larry Salme-ron, Ezekiel Salmeron-Diaz, Gabriel Burciaga and David Izaiah Burciaga. His great-grandchildren are Nicole Ro-driguez, Aaron Salmeron, Jeremiah Salmeron and Abigail Alexis Rodriguez. Burial was April 30 at Mount Car-mel Cemetery.

Trinidad Sambrano, 91, passed away April 26. She was a resident of El Paso for 80 years and was a member of the Catholic Church. She is survived by her children — Bobby Sambrano, Roman Sambrano, Ricardo Sambrano and Reymundo Sambrano and Trini Vasquez — 14 grandchildren and 21 great- grandchildren. Interment was May 1 at the Socorro Cemetery.

James H. Stewart, 86, died April 26. He graduated from Penn State University in 1937 and his career with PPG Industries brought him to El Paso in 1942. He served as a manager in both Albuquerque and Denver, retiring in 1975. He worked after retirement with Hanley Paint. He was a member of St. Clement’s Episcopal Church, was an active Rotarian, serving as president of the El Paso Rotary Club in 1968-1969. He also was a Mason and a Shriner for many years. While in New Mexico he served as state president of the New Mexico Crippled Children’s Society. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Anne Stewart, their children — Judy Drotman and her husband Robert and Virginia “Micki” Kintner and her husband James — and four grandchildren. A memorial service took place at St. Clement's Episcopal Church on April 30. In lieu of flowers, family suggested memorial donations be made to the El Paso Rotary Foundation.

Arturo G. Tapia, 83, passed away April 27. He was VFW member a WWII veteran, a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and worked for the Texas Highway Department for 39 years. He is survived by his wife Ernestine Tapia, their children — Arturo R. Tapia Jr. and Ronald L. Tapia — five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Burial was May 2 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Angela Vera, 89, passed away April 28. She was a resident of El Paso since 1962 and was a member of the Catholic Church. She is survived by her daughters —Maria Elena Galvan, Laurencia V. Diaz and Graciela Nieto — 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Interment was May 1 in Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Cecilio Barrandey Villalobos, 87, passed away April 22. He was a lifelong resident of Van Horn, a World War II veteran and a justice of the peace who served the public for more than 30 years. He is survived by his children — Eduardo Villalobos, Ellis Villalobos, Ponce Villalobos, Cecilio Villalobos and Elva Villalobos Brown — several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Burial was April 25 at the Van Horn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations be made to the City County Nutrition Project.

Beatrice L. Weisz, 104, passed away April 22. She had been a resident of El Paso since 1961. She was the oldest teacher in Chicago’s Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of Temple Mt. Sinai and B’nai B’rith Women where she was president for two years. She is survived by many friends and relatives. Graveside services were April 24 at Temple Mt. Sinai Cemetery.

Dennis Lee Wentworth, 54, passed away April 24. He was a 22-year U.S. Army retired veteran, an avid golfer, fisherman and outdoorsman. He is survived by five brothers, two sisters and his children — Erik Lee Wentworth and Wendi K. Wentworth. He was employed by the City of Anchorage, Alaska, for 13 years and was the pension administrator for the El Paso Firemen & Policemen Pension Fund. A memorial service took place April 30 at Martin Funeral Home East and interment was May 7 at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contact El Paso Fire & Police Pension Fund, at (915) 771-8111, Ext. 23 to make memorial contributions.

Carolyn Sue Wilburn, 56, passed away April 19. She was a member of the PTA at Edgemere School and at Eastwood Middle School. She is survived by her husband James A. Wilburn and their sons — John A., Michael E., James B. and Mark A. Wilburn. Burial was April 23 in Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Ana Maria Zeid, 64, passed away April 22. She is survived by her mother Maria Tarango, children — Richard Zeid, Robert Zeid and Toni Morales — and five grandchildren. Interment was April 25 at Evergreen East Cemetery.

Vicki Rosen passed away on April 28. She is survived by her son and daughter-in- law David and Cheryl, daughter Jo An, grandchildren Heather and Jason as well as many nieces, nephews and good friends. Graveside services were May 1 at at B’nai Zion Cemetery. In lieu of floral tributes contributions were suggested in her name Congregation B’nai Zion, Rosen Memorial Fund, 805 Cherry Hill, El Paso, Texas 79912.

Ethel M. Schwartz, 92, passed away on May 23 after a lengthy illness.
She was born on Aug. 28, 1908, to Gustav and Cecilia Meyer in Cleveland, Ohio.
She attended Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Mich., and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in economics from Purdue University in 1930.
She was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. While attending Purdue, she met Jonathan “Jonny” David Schwartz, who was there on a football scholarship.
Following graduation, Ethel and Jonny were married on March 5, 1932, and moved to El Paso where he was employed by Air Reduction Company.
Neither Ethel nor Jonny had been to the Southwest before, but they immediately liked it and decided to stay and raise their children.
She became president of the Junior League of El Paso in 1945-1946 and for 60 years was a member of the Tuesday Book Club, which remains active today.
She made many contributions to the welfare of the community and actively supported the El Paso Symphony Orchestra Association, was a board member of the Women’s Department of the El Paso Chamber of Commerce, the El Paso Historical Society, the El Paso Museum of Art, St. Clement’s Episcopal School and the University of Texas at El Paso.
She and her husband were members of St. Clement’s Episcopal Church for more than 65 years.
Jonny was chief executive officer of the S.E.C. Corporation, an El Paso based industrial gas and chemical manufacturer and distributor, which merged with UGI Corporation of Valley Forge, Penn., in 1978.
Ethel is survived by her sister Marjorie M. Hughey, her daughter Sandra S. Hoover and son-in-law Robert T. Hoover Jr and her son Jonathan D. Schwartz Jr and daughter-in-law Josephine “Jody” P. Schwartz.
Grandchildren who survive her are Max R. Prestridge III, Sharon P. Thompson and her husband J.D. Thompson, Sandra P. McKinney and her husband Scot W. McKinney, Laura S. Smith and her husband W. Robert Smith, Jonathan D. Schwartz III and his wife Tracy R. Schwartz, James P. Schwartz and his wife Joy R. Schwartz and seven great-grandchildren.
Her husband preceded her in death on Aug. 9, 1994 as did her daughter Cecily Schwartz Prestridge on Oct. 14, 1996.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be mad e to St. Clement’s Pro-Cathedral, 810 N. Campbell, El Paso, Texas 79902 and Hospice of VNA-Circle of Hope, P.O. Box 3628, El Paso, TX 79923.
Funeral services were May 26 at St. Clement’s Episcopal Church.

Raymond George Adams (“Deda”), 83, passed away on May 3. He graduated with honors from the University of Pittsburgh before proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army and becoming a World War II Veteran. He was a member of St. Francis on the Hill Episcopal Church and worked as a freshman teacher at Bowie High School before joining State National Bank as a bookkeeper. In his several years at the bank, he became a teller, then a manager of the savings department and eventually vice president. He is survived by his wife Winnie, his daughter Susan Meyer and his son Barney Adams. He is also survived by four grandchildren — Tara Kirkpatrick, Amie Meyer, Kaka Adams and Brooke Adams. Burial was at May 7 at Gardens of the Valley in Santa Teresa.

Guadalupe O. Basham (Lupe), 87, passed away April 29. She was a longtime resident of Canutillo and a member of St. Patrick’s Church. She is survived by her children — Joe O. Basham, Rey Basham, Anita B. Luna, Helen B. Hinojos, Mary B. Guzman and Carmen Fleming — 25 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Interment was May 4 Canutillo Cemetery.

Roberto Baeza, 57, passed away May 1. He was a longtime El Paso resident and a Vietnam-era veteran. He is survived by his wife Gloria Aurora Baeza, his parents Reyes and Beatriz Baeza, his children —Roberto Baeza Jr., Paul Baeza, Matthew Baeza, Isaac Baeza, Oscar, Roberto and Arturo Hernandez, Corina Domin-guez — 16 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, Burial was May 1 at Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Bernardo Canales, 70, passed away April 30. He served as a corporal during the Korean War with the United States Army. He was a self-employed automotive mechanic and a lifelong resident of El Paso. He is survived by his children — Bob Canales, Bill Canales, Elizabeth Royer and Christina Rodriguez — and three grandchildren. Interment was May 4 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with military honors.

Gregory Don Caviness, 55, passed away May 11. He was a Vietnam era veteran, was president of The Reliant Group and co-owner of Classic Bronze and The Phoenix Galleries of Ruidoso, N.M. He was a well-known businessman and civic advocate. He is survived by his wife Stephanie Hart Caviness and his son Eric Dawson Caviness and daughter-in-law Lola. Other survivors include his brother Randall Malcolm Caviness and his wife Rene, his sister Karen Elizabeth Caviness, two uncles William L. Willey and Dr. Phillip E. Willey. Interment was May 16 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggested that contributions be made to Hospice of El Paso.

Denus A. Cotsonis, passed away May 1. He served in the U.S. Army from 1939 until 1962 and parachuted behind enemy lines during the Normandy invasion. After retirement from the military, he served as a special education teacher until the early 1980s. Then he traveled the United States in his Airstream trailer with his late wife Belle Valle Cotsonis. He is survived by his children — Carol Cotsonis and Byron (Corky) Cotsonis, his wife Margaret Horn Cotsonis and their daughter Janice Cotsonis. A Masonic memorial service took place May 6 at El Paso Lodge No. 130, followed by a gathering at the Cotsonis home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions were suggested to the Greater El Paso Special Olympics of Texas, the El Paso Humane Society or the Masonic Home and School of Texas.

Rubye Elizabeth Dill, 78, passed away May 3. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for more than 40 years and retired as a real estate leasing agent from Dill’s Rental in El Paso. Survivors include her children — Patricia Tucker, Norma Hallbauer, Murray Dill and James H. Dill Jr. — nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Interment was May 7 at Dill Cemetery in Lee Station, Tenn.

Jeanette LaCroix Dority, 81, passed away April 30. She spent her youth in Newton, Texas, and moved to El Paso in 1953 with her husband, Guy E. Dority. She was a long time employee of El Paso National Bank, from which she retired in 1985. During retirement, Jeanette created many beautiful quilts for her family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Guy E. Dority, daughter Mary Clay Squyres, granddaughter, Sarah Squyres Balinskas, great-granddaughter Emilia Grace Balinskas and niece Kay Hughes Cunningham. Interment was in Newton City Cemetery in Newton, Texas.

TSgt. Henry Gregory, USAF, Ret., 77, passed away on April 30. He was a resident of El Paso for 46 years and retired from Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio after serving 23 years in the Air Force where he served during WWII and the Korean War. He was a founder of Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 187 in 1966. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy Gregory, their children — David Gregory, Margaret Green and Evelyn Aigbedion — seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Interment was May 4 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with full military honors.

Guadalupe Cristina Hernandez, 47, passed away April 30. She was a lifelong resident of El Paso and a member of the Catholic Church. She is survived by her father Ruben Sandoval, husband Ignacio Hernandez, their children — Estevan Ignacio Hernandez, Denise Kristine Hernandez and Amanda Lee Hernandez — and granddaughter Avery Lorraine Hernandez. Interment was May 4 at Evergreen East Cemetery.

Lawrence E. Jeddery Sr., 70, passed away May 1. He was a lifelong resident of El Paso, a served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a retired mechanic from the U.S. Postal Service. He is survived by his children — Genaro Jeddery, Joseph Sergio Jeddery, Lawrence Edward Jeddery Jr., Rita Elena Mendoza and Sylvia Bejarano — and nine grandchildren. Interment was May 4 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Harold G. Levy, 80, passed away May 4. He was a veteran of WWII, a UT Austin graduate and second generation owner of Angelus Cleaners. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Randy and Michelle Levy and three grandsons — David, Ryan and Wesley Levy. Graveside service was May 6 at Temple Mount Sinai Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggested memorial contributions be made to Temple Mount Sinai or a favorite charity.
