Raymond Charles Oth, 93, passed away Oct. 14. He taught at Harris Teacher College and the University of Missouri. During WWII he served in the Navy, then retired from the Ford Motor Company. He is survived by his wife Husta Oth, son James A. Oth and wife Virginia, daughter Kathy Moye and husband James, grandchildren James M. Moye IV, Raymond M. Moye, LTJG William A. Moye and Tana Ortiz, great-grandchildren Ryan M. Moye, James M. Moye V and Jenna Marie Moye, and step-children John Crossett and wife Patricia and Carol Crossett. Visitation on Oct. 18 was followed by private services.

Calvin J. “Cal” Taylor, SSGT U.S. Army retired, 72, passed away Oct. 13. He served in the U.S. Army for 22 years and was also a P.O.W. in Korea for three years. He was a member of the VFW Post #8919. He is survived by his children Larry, Debra, Barbara, Steven and Sandra and six grandchildren. Graveside service was Oct. 18 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Thomas S. Cozzens, 58, passed away Oct. 16. He was a teacher at Hanks High School and before becoming a teacher worked for 14 years with Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. He is survived by his wife Sharyn G. Cozzens, daughter Alyssa D. Cozzens Morris and husband Matthew E. Morris, one grandson, Teo Morris, and his stepfather, Henry H. Schrader. A memorial service took place Oct. 19 at at St. Luke United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggested contributions be sent to the American Heart Association.

Louis P. Denis Sr., 89, passed away Oct. 17. He resided in El Paso 53 years and worked for Braswell Trucking Lines as a painter as well as GMC Trucks in the maintenance department. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Luz A. Denis, children — Victor Denis and wife Alicia, Lucie Vasquez and husband Andres, Carmen Denis Medrano and husband Enrique and daughter-in-law Mary Denis, widow of Louis Denis Jr. Burial was Oct. 19 at Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Freda G. Grissom, 86, passed away Oct. 12. She was president of the Iris Garden Club and president of the El Paso Council of Garden Clubs. She was listed in the Who’s Who of American Artists. She is survived by son Mark Grissom and wife Guy Ann, daughter Loyce Kosub and husband Charles, five grandchildren Laura Billingsley, Bryce Kosub, Ellen Purdy, Michelle Marie Wright and Adam Grissom, nine great-grandchildren, three brothers and three sisters. Graveside service was Oct. 19 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Conchita Pangburn Pytcher, 75, passed away Oct. 16. She was a retired teacher from the Ysleta Independent School District, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Assistance League of El Paso and the Ysleta Retired Teachers Associ-ation. She is survived by her husband Jack R. Pytcher, children Kevin Pytcher and Catherine Magallanez, and daughter-in-law Heidi L. Bujanda. Burial was Oct. 19 at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Norma C. Adauto, 52, passed away Oct. 8. She was a graduate of Coronado High School and an employment counselor for the New Mexico Department of Labor. She belonged to the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. She was an avid gardener, cook, craftswoman and home decorator. She is survived by her husband Dr. Inez E. Adauto, children — Ezekiel and wife Michele, and Jeremias and wife Rebecca — her father M.J. Castro, two grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters. A memorial Mass took place Oct. 11 at St. Patrick Cathedral.

Luisa Ahumada, 71, passed away Oct. 12. She was a lifelong El Pasoan and member of the Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband Guillermo Ahumada, daughter Velia Estella Campos and husband Agustin J., Beatriz Ahumada Guzman and Irene Ahumada Campos, grandchildren Edward Guzman, Kristina Campos and Ruben Christopher Campos. Interment was Oct. 18 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Graciela Alcantar, 52, passed away Oct. 11. She owned Sunland Park Daycare and had been a substitute teacher for the Gadsden School District. She is survived by her husband, Arcadio Alcantar, children Sonny Alcantar and Cynthia Alcantar, father Bentura Molina, siblings Salvador Molina, Ventura Molina, Ruben Molina and Magdalena Manriquez. Interment was Oct. 15 in Memory Gardens of the Valley.

Mariana Betance Castillo, 91, passed away Oct. 12. She was a longtime resident of El Paso. She is survived by daughters Teresa Castillo Bryan and husband William H., Jessie Castillo Garcia and husband Miguel, and grandchild Michael G. Garcia. Burial was Oct. 16 at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Maria Luisa Collins, 90, passed away Oct. 14. She became a founder of Leo’s Mexican Food in 1946 and was the owner of Leo’s on Trawood. She is survived by her brother Guillermo “Willie” Ter-razas and several nieces and nephews. Interment was Oct. 17 at Restlawn Memorial Park Ceme-tery.

Joseph A. Delgado III, 35, passed away Oct. 15. He was a longtime resident of El Paso. He is survived by his parents, Joseph A. Delgado Jr. and Rosario Delgado, grandmother Socorro Fierro, sisters Cecilia Quade and husband Richard, Carolina Hackmeyer and husband Lee, Rosario Delgado and Bob Jones, Yolanda Petereit and husband Frank, nieces and nephews Cinnamon Trietsch, Ginger Quade, Ashleigh Jones, Alexandra Petereit, Bryce Hackmeyer and Jacob Trietsch. Services were Oct. 17 at Martin Funeral Home West.

Frances W. Dryden, 81, passed away Oct. 16. She lived in El Paso until her husband Ewing R. Dryden passed away in 1995. She was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church, a longtime member of several local and national organizations including the Lower Valley Women’s Club, Daughters of the Nile and Newcomers Society. She is survived by her chidren — Frances Dryden, Fred Dryden, Frank Dryden and Jim Dryden — sisters Katherine Stinson and Mary DeGarmo, and six grandchildren. Interment was Oct. 19 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Ernesto G. Galvan, 63, passed away Oct. 9. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired as an assistant state director from the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Com-mission after 35 years of service. He is survived by his wife Lucia D. Galvan, children — Salvador Galvan, Rolando Galvan, Ernest Galvan, Maria Isabel Hernandez, Marta Elena Saenz and Rosa Elena Duran — 12 grandchildren, brother Eduardo Galvan and sister Cecilia Wink. Interment was Oct. 11 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Joseph R. Griffin, 60, passed away Oct. 11. He was an Eagle Scout and served in the Army at Fort Bliss. He was a member of the Northeast Fellowship for the past five years. He retired from the El Paso Water Utilities where he was plant superintendent. Interment was Oct. 16 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Bonnie Dee Hartog, 54, passed way Oct. 8. She was a graduate of Irvin High School and most recently had lived in Maturin, Venezuela. She is survived by her husband Kenneth Elliot Hartog, mother Alice Alexander and husband Joseph Alexander, her daughter and son-in-law Danielle and Michael Boggiano, and grandchildren Bonnie Mi-chelle and Michael Tyler. A “Celebration of Life” service in her memory took place at Martin Funeral Home followed by burial Oct. 17 at Memory Gardens of the Valley in Santa Teresa.

Msgt U.S. Army Ret. Donald L. Jones, 79, passed away Oct. 11. He was a resident of El Paso since 1956 and retired from the U.S. Army after proudly serving his country. He was a member of the original Darby’s Rangers during World War II, earning the Silver Star and the Bronze Star. He also served in Korea. After his retirement, he was an instructer in guided missiles at Fort Bliss and an amateur radio operator with the call sign of KSSB. He is survived by his wife Kathleen M. Jones, children — Richard L. Jones and wife Barbara, Sandra K. Scha-afsma and husband Peter, Susan L. Leuci and husband James — four grandchildren and one great-grandchild, and sister Wanda M. Brown Meade. Graveside service was Oct. 18 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Ala Kay Kelly Hill, 91, passed away Oct. 5. Burial was Oct. 8 at Restlawn Memorial Park. She taught school until her retirement in 1976. She is survived by her children — Dr. Van D. Hill and wife Anne, and daughter Dr. Carolyn K. Hill Goad and husband Jerry — grandchildren Kelley and Hayley Hill, Ronald K. and Mary Jane Goad, and Celia K. Goad Jones and husband David, and three great-grandchildren.

Maria S. Hinojo, 83, passed away Oct. 15. She was a lifelong resident of El Paso and a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. She is survived by her sons — Pablo Hinojo, Carlos Hinojo, Rudy Hinojo and Javier Hinojo and wife Terry — 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Interment was Oct. 18 in Mount Carmel Cemetery.

John James Houghton, 68, passed away Oct. 4. He retired after 28 years of service with the U.S. Army Airborne Rangers as a master sergeant. Some of his accomplishments include service in Vietenam and Korea and being awarded a Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart. He served 12 years with the El Paso Sheriff’s Department He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Laura Houghton, children Philip and Amanda, two stepchildren and six grandchildren. Burial was Oct. 9 at the Spring Branch Cemetery in Louisiana.

Celentha Katz passed away Oct. 9. She was a graduate of El Paso High School and was active in the B’Nai Zion Sisterhood, the Hadassah and the March of Dimes. She is survived by her brother Leonard Blaugrund, children — Dr. Wayne Katz and Janice Rosett — and five grandchildren Joshua and Laura Katz and Jeffrey, Matthew and Nancy Rosett. Burial was Oct. 11 at the B’Nai Zion Cemetery.

Joseph “Al” Keller, 58, passed away Oct. 11. He was employed by the civil service for 18 years and was a decorated soldier serving in the U.S. Air Force for more than 20 years. He was a member of the VFW Yucca Post #8919 and the American Legion Post #692. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sharon M. Keller, children — John Keller, James Keller and David Keller — and seven grandchildren. Interment was Oct. 17 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Felicitas Perez, 83, passed away Oct. 13. The lifelong El Pasoan is survived by her children — Maria Herrera, Oscar and Marta Muñoz, Armando and Francisca Muñoz and Margarita Hilda Perez — 22 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. Interment was Oct. 16 at Evergreen East Cemetery.

He is survived by wife Francisca Quintana, children — Salvador Quintana, Hector Quintana, Jose Quintana, Francisco Quintana, Ricardo Quintana, Candy Aguirre and Rose Stagger — grandchildren Joel Quintana, Idania Quintana, Bon-nie Quintana, Krystal Quintana, Frank Quintana, Lauren Stagger, Jose L. Aguirre Jr., Mark Stagger, and great-grandchild Nayellie Ortiz. A memorial service took place Oct. 13 at Hillcrest Funeral Home.

She is survived by her husband Santiago Mendoza, children — Mary Carter and Rosie de la Rosa and husband Oscar — eight grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. Burial was May 27 at Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Barbra Bagby, 13, passed away May 19. She attended East Montana Middle School where she was on the A & B Honor Roll. She was a cheerleader and involved with basketball, volleyball, track and also in Universal Interscholastic League events. She is survived by her parents Gary and Brandy Bagby, sister Jennifer Bagby, her great-grandparents Mary Lincecum, Lena Mae Bagby-Nichols and Wesley “Papa Jim” Nichols, grandparents Barbara Sharpe and Marvin Motl, Richard Kershman, James and Kathryn Bagby, uncles J.J. Bagby, Don “Feller” Smith, Jimmy Stark and Lloyd Smith and aunts Teri Stark, Kandy Smith and Vinny Bagby. Interment was May 24 at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park at Marble Falls, Texas.

She is survived by her parents Alfredo and Manuela Avila, brothers — Guillermo and Alfredo Ballesteros, Edward, Armando, David, Daniel and George Avila — and sister Graciela Avila. Burial was May 22 at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Cary M. Barnes, 63, passed away June 4. He had resided in El Paso for 30 years and was a dermatologist at William Beaumont Medical Center and at Texas Tech as well as in solo private practice. He is survived by his wife Mary, children — Christopher and wife Anne and Alex and wife Carolyn Barnes — and two grandsons Daniel and Michael Barnes. A memorial service took place June 7 at St. Mark’s Methodist Church. Burial was June 8 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
