Clarence H. “Bud” Bell, passed away on April 10. He was a veteran of both World War II and Korea, was a member of the Texas Skeet Shooting Association and a longtime resident of El Paso before retiring to Kerrville in 1994. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helen Elizabeth “Betty” Bell, their children — Leslie H. Bell and his wife and James T. Bell and his wife Laurel — and five grandchildren. Interment was April 13 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors.

Andrew Glenn Buck, 39, passed away on April 13. He was a CPA who is survived by his parents, the Rev. William and Elsie Buck, his wife Sandy Buck and his children — Alexandra and Lauren Buck. His funeral was April 16 at First United Methodist Church, in Arlington.

Miguel Bustamante Jr., 62, passed away April 15. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Alma G. Bustamante, his five children — Ivonne, Miguel Jr., Adrian, Sandra and Vanessa — and grandchildren. Memorial services were held April 16 at Iglesia Bautista Colina Alta.

Mary Nell Brown, 79, passed away April 10. A resident of El Paso for 35 years, she was instrumental in getting the Memorial Park neighborhood recognition as a State Historical Area. For many years she custom-designed and made fine jewelry. She is survived by her children — Thomas Taeger, Robin Pepin and Michael Brown — three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A memorial service took place April 14 at Saint Alban’s Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggested that memorial contributions may be made to Saint Alban’s Episcopal Church.

Thomas Elwood Bryson, 83, passed away April 8 and was a resident of El Paso since 1956. He was a Seaman First Class and a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, a Purple Heart recipient and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He is survived by his brother Samuel Bryson, his sister LoRen Allred, seven nieces and three nephews. Burial was at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with military honors.

Alva Byrd “Cap” Carter passed away April 10. For many years, he operated Western Hills Co. in Anthony. The Canutillo school board honored his work on the board by naming a street “Cap Carter Drive.” He is survived by his daughter Dorothy Marie and her husband Gordon Black, his grandchildren, who include Diana Lee Black, John Carter and his wife Debra Black and Linda Louise Black, and his great-grandchildren — Shauna Lee and her husband Walter Bryant, Travis Hotop, Jody Lynn Black, Paul Carter Black, Curtis Black and Alanna Marie Black. Cienna Lee Bryant is his only great-great grandchild. A memorial service took place April 16 at Anthony United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggested that memorial contributions may be made to the Anthony Methodist Church or to Circle of Hope Hospice of the Visiting Nurse Association.

Harriet Owsley Evans passed away April 10. The native of Port Townsend, Wash., retired to El Paso in 1961 with her husband John T. Evans after his 31 years in the Army. She was active in the El Paso Women’s Club and was a past president of P.E.O. Chapter N, a board member of the Community Concert Association and a Paul Harris Fellow in the Rotary Club of El Paso. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, a daughter Penny Bettas, a son John T. Evans Jr. and his wife Martha Evans and six grandchildren. A memorial service took place April 14 at First Presbyterian Church.

She was a retired registered nurse and served as a 2nd lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II. She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-laws — Charles Korpalski, Jr. and his wife Jackie and Tom Korpalski and his wife Ann — four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Bertha Dimeler Lanier, 82, passed away April 10 and was a resident of El Paso for 49 years. She was born in Princeton, N.J., and was a veteran of the U.S. Army with the Army Nurse Corps as a 1st lieutenant during World War II. She is survived by her children — Merene Davidson, Karen Charlton and Tex D. Lanier and his wife Joan — five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Raquel Sundermann Larios, 78, passed away April 13. She worked as a nurse at area El Paso hospitals: Thomason General, Providence and William Beaumont. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Roberto Carlos Larios, their children — Rachel Bustos, Olga Bowie, Roberto Larios, Jr., and Norma Larios — and six grandchildren. A memorial service was held on Easter Sunday at Trinity Iglesia Bautista. Interment was April 16 at Restlawn Memorial Park. Ramon T. Mendoza, 78, passed away April 15. He was a lifelong resident of San Elizario, and retired from Phelps Dodge Copper Refinery. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lilly Mendoza, their children — Ray Mendoza Jr. and his wife Diane, Patricia Kracher and her husband Jerry, Sandra Gloria and her husband Lorenzo, Hilda James and her husband Paul — nine granddaughters and two grandsons. Arthur Mowad, 71, passed away April 11. He was a lifelong resident of El Paso and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was the owner of Arthur’s Industrial Sewing Machine Company and helped many local businesses get started. He is survived by his wife Audrey J. Mowad, his children — Arthur H. and his wife Mary Lou Mowad, Gary G. and his wife Lou Mowad, Alan and his wife Ginger Mowad — and three grandchildren. A memorial service was held April 14 at Martin Chapel.

William Wray Park, 84, passed away April 15. He was a member of Trinity First United Methodist Church and retired after 49 years from the State National Bank in El Paso. During his professional life, he was an active member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Sertoma Club and El Maida Shrine. After retiring, he played saxophone with the Silvertones for 12 years at the Memorial Senior Citizen's Center. He is survived by his wife Ruth C. Park, his children — Terrell Park, Thomas Park, Thomas Cramer, Kay Park Trowell and Cherry Cramer Roberts — six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A private interment took place on April 17. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity First United Methodist Church or a favorite charity.

John A. Phelan IV passed away April 14. He was a Coronado High School graduate who worked in Aspen, Colo., as a ski instructor and chef. He is survived by his mother and step-father Guylene and Steve Jones, his father and step-mother Mr. and Mrs. John A. Phelan III, his grandmothers Eloise Phelan and Sylvia Pettey Skelton and his siblings — Wendy Bloss, Kelly Jones, Troy Phelan, Katy Phelan, Andy Phelan and Emily Phelan. He was the grandson of the late John A. Phelan. A memorial service took place April 18, 2001, at Ford Chapel of First Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the UTEP/John A. Phelan Athletic Scholarship Fund or the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
