UBALDO (WALDO) SOLIZ
Funeral services for Ubaldo (Waldo) Soliz, 60, of Santa Maria, California were held on Friday, September 21, 2007 in Arroyo Grande California.
Soliz passed away on Monday, September 17, 2007 after a lengthy illness.
He was born December 23, 1946 in Beeville, Texas to Pedro and Trinidad Soliz. He attended Floydada High School, served in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam veteran. He married and moved to Santa Maria, California.
He is survived by two sons, Steven Soliz and Jarred Soliz of California; brothers, Pedro and Johnny of McAllen; Joe and Robert of Plainview; Carmen of Conroe, Tony of Amarillo and Felix of Canyon; sisters, Trini Cuellar of Waukesha, WI, Maria Garza of North Carolina, Minnie Soliz of Floydada, Mary Mathos of Sanger, California and Emma Ortiz of Lake Jackson, Texas.
MARGRETTE HOLMES
Funeral services for Margrette Holmes were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 28, 2007 at Moore Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Floydada. Lance Harrington of Paramount Baptist Church of Amarillo officiated. Burial followed in the Floydada County Memorial Park under the direction of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Floydada.
Sarah Margrette Holmes, 89, of Amarillo, formerly of Floydada, TX. died Tuesday, September 25, 2007. Mrs. Holmes was born on October 21, 1917 in Dubberly, Red River Parish, LA to William Franklin and Mary Jeanette Henry Culpepper. The Culpepper family moved to Floyd County in 1924 by train. They resided in various farms in Floyd County.
Mrs. Holmes graduated from Floydada High School in 1935. She married S. L. Holmes, Jr. on June 19, 1935. She helped S.L. farm and was a wonderful helpmate. During the 1940's they moved to Amarillo and both worked at Pantex. After they moved back to Floydada she worked in the restaurant business, first at Winn's, then at King's and Neilson's. Margrette had wanted to work until she was 80, however, she missed that mark by six months. She was known in our family for her wonderful pecan pies that were our standard for all pies in the future. Margrette and S.L. had two children, Janet Holmes born in 1940 near Ralls, TX and Earl Holmes born in 1943 in Floydada.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Franklin and Jeanette Culpepper; two brothers, Henry Culpepper and his wife, Florence of Mesquite and Williams "Bill" Culpepper and his wife, Vida Mae of Lubbock; three sisters, Marie Davis and her husband, Henry of Ringgold, LA, Mabel Redwine and husband, Elmer of Floydada and Mary Blynn Chick Burgett and husbands, Estil Chick and Lester Burgett; one brother-in-law, Joe E. Wilson of Lubbock and one grandson, Michael Holmes of Amarillo.
Mrs. Holmes is survived by Janet Holmes Chapman and husband, Gerald Chapman and Luther Earl Holmes and wife, Carolyn of Amarillo; one sister, Elaine Wilson of Cedar Hill, TX; one sister-in-law, Maureen Holmes of Amarillo; one brother-in-law, Austin Holmes and wife, Dovie of Floydada; four grandchildren, Stan Chapman and wife, Judi of Leander, Dane Chapman and wife, Rhonda of Hillsboro, Kathi Holmes and Denise Holmes of Lubbock; eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many loved and loving nieces and nephews. She treasured each one.

OTIS JOHNSON
Graveside services for Otis Johnson, 88, of Floydada were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 28, 2007 at the Floydada Cemetery. Hospice Chaplain Rev. Harold Abney officiated. Burial was under the direction of Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Floydada.
He died Tuesday, September 25, 2007. Otis was born September 3, 1919 in McCoy, TX. to James Luther Johnson and Zela Yoakum Johnson. Otis attended Floyd County schools. He married Elizabeth Pierce on August 27, 1948 in Mt. Blanco community near Floydada. He was retired from the State Department Highway Public Transportation. Otis served in the Army in WWII as a Combat Engineer from 1941 to 1945. He was a Baptist.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ottis and Wendell Johnson, a sister, Ebah Curb.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth of Floydada; three brothers, Acie Johnson of Lovington, New Mexico, J. L. Johnson of Lufkin and Leo Pete Johnson of Springs, TX and many nieces and nephews.
LINDA "LYNN" MARLER
Graveside services for Linda "Lynn" Marler, 79, of Floydada were held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at the Floydada Cemetery. Rev. D. Sisemore officiated. Burial was under the direction of Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Floydada. Family and friends met at the Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m. in precede to the cemetery .
She passed away Sunday, September 30, 2007 at BSA Hospice of Amarillo. Lynn was born October 10, 1927 to the late Aubrey and Della Griffith. Lynn lived in Floydada most of her life. She attended public schools in Floydada and Flomot. She married Orville Marler on May 1941 in Hollis, OK. He preceded her in death on September 29, 1997. She became a wife and mother and was active in PTA, Little League and the Whirlwind Booster Club. Lynn joined the work force in 1957 as a nurse, working in the local hospital. In 1964, she joined the staff of Dr. Andrew McCulley and remained there until her retirement in 1978. Lynn ad a great interest in young people and their education. She received the Distinguished Service Award in 1994 and was inducted into the Texas H.S. Coaches Association Hall of Honor. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. Lynn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Richard Marler, a brother and two great-grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Steve Marler and wife, Vickie of Wylie and Bob Marler and wife, Marilyn of Port Neches; one daughter, Sandra Frysinger and husband, Larry of Amarillo; four sisters, Dean Burson of Silverton, Doris Marler of Irving, Marty Hawk of Silverton and Mary Jane Junod of Ft. Worth; seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

JIMMY D. STENNETT
Jimmy D. "Slick" Stennett, 82, of Lockney passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2007 in Lockney.
Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Alice Catholic Church in Plainview by Msgr. Curtis Halfmann at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 1, 2007. Burial was held in Lockney.
Visitation vigil service was held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, September 30, 2007 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Plainview.
Jimmy Stennett was born October 22, 1924 in Wellington, Texas to Edward E. and Mary Gertrude Davis Stennett. He graduated from Hale Center High School in 1943.
He served in the Army Air Corps from 1943-46. He married Theresa Andrae on May 20, 1946 in Rhineland, Texas. He graduated from Hardin-Simmons University in 1949.
Jimmy was a medical technologist (M.T.A.S.C.P.). In 1950, he joined the staff of Crosbyton Hospital as director of lab and X-ray. In 1956 he became director of lab and X-ray of Lockney Hospital where he also administered anesthetics.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Lockney's San Jose Catholic Church where he served on the parish council. He also served on the Lockney City Council, Floydada Country Club Board of Directors and belonged to the Lockney Senior Citizens.
Second only to Theresa, Jimmy's lifelong love was golf. He enjoyed nothing more than a good round with beloved friends and his four sons, frequently slipping down to the golf course before work and then again after work. Even in declining health, he maintained his reputation as an excellent chipper and putter.
He was an avid supporter of the Lockney Longhorn football program and the Senior Citizen Center, where he enjoyed long afternoons with lifelong "Slick Baby" friends, spinning lively tales and playing dominoes and 42.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Theresa, of the home; and his family, Gary and wife, Debbie of Plainview, Doug and wife, Ellen of Richardson, Keven and wife, Michealle of Lockney, Mike of Lubbock; grandchildren, Brandye Stennett, Tucker Stennett and wife, Athena, Tracey Stennett, Meghen Stennett, Keenan Stennett, Kelsie Stennett and Madison Stennett; and great-granddaughter, Ashlyn Stennett.
Memorials may be made to Lockney Senior Citizens, San Jose Catholic Church in Lockney or St. Alice Catholic Church in Plainview.
SUE WIESMAN
Sue Wiesman, 44, of Midland passed away on Friday, September 28, 2007 at the Hospice Inpatient Unit at Midland Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 1, 2007 at St. Stephen's Catholic Church. Interment followed at Serenity Memorial Gardens. A rosary was held on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at the St. Stephen's Catholic Church.
She was born February 22, 1963 in Hereford to John E. and Eva McCleskey.
Arrangements were under the direction of Nalley-Pickle Welch Funeral Home and Crematory of Midland.
MARIE SMITH TARDY
Funeral services for Marie Smith Tardy, 99, of Floydada were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 29, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Floydada. Rev. Anthony D. Sisemore officiated. Burial was in the Floyd County Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Moore Rose Funeral Home in Floydada.
Marie passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at the Floydada Rehab and Care Center. She was born August 17, 1908 in the McCoy community near Floydada to William Washington Smith and Mary Cornelia Byrd. She was born on her parents farm and lived in McCoy until moving the house to a lot in Floydada in 1978. She attended McCoy School and Floydada High School. She played basketball on a dirt court for Floydada High School. She graduated from Floydada High School in 1928.
She married Harvey Aaron Tardy on October 5, 1928 in Plainview. He preceded her in death on October 20, 1989. Marie was a retired nurse. She worked as a nurse's aide at the Floydada Hospital. She loved cooking and was well known for her apricot cobbler that she made and took to the church for gatherings.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers, four sisters and a son, Lonnie Ray Tardy in 1937.
She is survived by a son, Dale Tardy and wife, Nancy of Lubbock; a daughter, LaNell Tardy of Floydada; four grandchildren, Larry Tardy and wife, Lisa of Arlington, Joel Tardy and wife, Betsy of Lubbock, Todd Tardy and wife, Shelly of Arlington and Debbie Tardy of Lubbock; twenty great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.
Pallbearers were her great-great-grandsons, Jordan, Sterling, Skylar, Daniel, Kirk, Evan, Cameron, David, Calvin and Avery.
Family greeted friends on Friday, September 28, 2007 at the Moore Rose Funeral Home in Floydada.
CORINA DELEON CISNEROS
Our beloved mother, Corina Cisneros, age 76, passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2007 in Lubbock.
Corina DeLeon Cisneros was born May 29, 1931 to the late Concepcion DeLeon Sr. and Rita (Hernandez) DeLeon in Abram, Texas. She married Albert Cisneros, Sr. on August 11, 1948 in Indianola, Mississippi. They moved to Floydada from Ralls in 2006. Corina was a full time wife and mother and a member of the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Ralls.
Always busy with a mission, Corina was never tired of giving to her loved ones. From tending to the garden and preparing our favorite dishes ranging from atole de arroz, panecitos de canela, albondigas to her delicious homemade tortillas. Her touch was always full of love and tenderness. Being a loving and commited wife, mother, grandmother, and loving great-grandmother, no chore was too large, and she always gave with all her heart and always with an eagerness to please.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Esperanza Cisneros, three brothers and four sisters.
Mrs. Cisneros is survived by her husband of 59 years, Alberto Cisneros, Sr. of Floydada; her son, Alberto Cisneros II and wife, Isabel of Cedar Park; her daughters, Alicia C. Saldivar and husband, Fidel of Midland, Yolanda C. Garcia and husband, Victor of Spring, Elizabeth Cisneros Lopez and husband, Ricardo of Katy, Cristina C. Blaylock of Abilene and Margarita C. Salgado and husband, Mario of Midland; a brother, Juan Ramon DeLeon; two sisters, Evangelina Samarripas and Josephina Villarreal; eleven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
Rosary services were from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Monday, October 8, 2007 and Vigil with Rosary was held at 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at the Moore-Rose Funeral Home Chapel. Vigil and Rosary was performed by Deacon Fidel Saldivar.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Floydada. Father Joe Relente officiated. Burial followed at the Floydada Cemetery under the direction of Moore Rose Funeral Home of Floydada.
J. E. ECKERT, JR.
Services for J. E. "Dutch" Eckert, Jr., 84 of Slaton were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 6, 2007 in St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Lubbock with Rev. Jim O'Connor officiating. Burial with military honors was in Slaton's Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.
J.E. passed from this life Wednesday, October 3, 2007. He was born February 25, 1923 in Slaton. He served in US Navy during WWII and retired from the Naval Reserves in 1983.
He retired from the Santa Fe Railroad.
He is survived by his wife, Cecelia; son J. E. "Dinks" Eckert III and wife, Beth of Floydada; daughters, Jo Mogan and husband, Jim of Slaton and Cee Kobza and husband, Hank of Anadarko, OK; 4 grandsons and 1 great-granddaughter.
The family suggests memorials to Boy Scouts of America.
WILMA DEAN EMERT
Wilma Dean Emert, 70, of Dayton, Texas, passed away Thursday, October 4, 2007, in Texas City.
A memorial service was held Saturday, October 6, 2007 at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City with Pastor Johnny Angel officiating.
Wilma was born August 23, 1937 in Oglesby, Texas. She was a loving mother, homemaker and friend. She loved listening to music and cooking.
Survivors include her sons, Jimmy Emert and Darrin Emert and wife, Tina; daughter Sandra Hambright and husband, Mike; brothers, William, Leslie, and Lonnie Dossey; sisters, Billie Jean White and Florehea Wright; grandchildren, Brandon Emert, James Roden, Tiffany Clemons, Zachery Emert, and Zoe Emert; great-grandchildr, Coy Roden, Dawson Roden, and Lance Clemons; uncle, Oney Cox; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
