PITTSBURG - P.W. Pool, 81, of Pittsburg, died Thursday, March 29, 2001 at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler.
Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 31 at Macedonia Cemetery under the direction of Erman Smith Funeral Home. The Rev. Tommy Porter officiated.
Mr. Pool was born Dec. 22, 1919 in Oklahoma. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army. He was a retired commercial painter.
He is survived by his wife Lois Pool of Pittsburg; sons Warren Prentiss Pool of Royce City, Clifford Lynn Pool of Irving; brothers Edsel Pool of Kingston, Okla., Sonny Pool and Aubry Pool, both of Chickasha, Okla.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Louisa Hendrix Pool.
Richardson
Lennie Hanson Richardson, 80, of Mount Pleasant, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001 at Titus Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 29 at Macedonia Baptist Church in Pittsburg. The Rev. Johnny Hailes officiated. Interment was in Macedonia Cemetery under the direction of Erman Smith Funeral Home in Pittsburg. Pallbearers were J.D. Richardson, Jimmy Mizell, Melvin Richardson, Jackie Howell, Danny Howell, Rodney Marshall and Wayne Hadderton. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Richardson, Tommy Dotson, George French, Jerry French, Johnny French and Joey French.
Mrs. Richardson was born Sept. 20, 1920 in Titus County. She was affiliated with Macedonia Baptist Church and a member of Rebekah’s. She was a housewife and mother.
She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law Carolynn Lineberger of Pittsburg, Phyllis and Ed Dotson of Mount Pleasant; grandchildren Steven and Julie Lineberger, Ragayla and Chet Thomas, Stephanie and Andrew Covey, Tonya and Chuck Schultz, Mark Dotson; seven great-grandchildren Tiffany Lineberger, Sydney Lineberger, Ashley Lineberger, Emily Thomas, Allison Thomas, Katie Swinnen, Eric Swinnen. She was preceded in death by her husband Herman Richardson; parents Tom Henry Hanson and Ella Newman Hanson; sons Herman Danny Richardson, Stephen Wayne Richardson.
Stroman
Odis Stroman, 76, of Mount Pleasant died Friday, March 9, 2001 at the University of Texas Health Center.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 11 at Bridges Chapel Cemetery. Officiating was Bro. Johnny McDill. Bates-Cooper Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Born Oct. 20, 1924 in Mount Pleasant, Mr. Stroman was the son of Lewis B. Stroman and Lizzie Quarles Stroman. He was a controller operator at Moncanto Chemical in Texas City and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Avinger Baptist Church and of Union 347 Texas City.
Survivors include his wife, Verda Nell Stroman of Mount Pleasant; son, Larry Stroman of Atlanta; son and daughter-in-law, Donny and Kathy Stroman of Hallsville; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Larry Joe Evans of Texarkana; step-daughter and husband, Frieda and S.L. Easley of Mount Pleasant; step-daughters, Mary Ware of Tyler and Venita Robertson of Mount Pleasant; step-son and wife, Maurice and Rita Tigert of Daingerfield; 22 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Gary Stroman; a sister, Louise Stroman; and two sons-in-law, Gene Ware and Howard Robertson.
Stroud
Roy Lee Stroud, 82, died Saturday, March 31, 2001 at Sun Bridge Nursing Home.
Graveside services were at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 1 at Union Hill Cemetery under the direction of Curry-Welborn Funeral Home. Bro. Frank Stringham officiated.
Mr. Stroud was born Jan. 10, 1919 in Alto, the son of Sam and Ella Stroud. He served in the U.S. Army and had been employed in the recycling department of a wrecking yard. He was a Baptist.
He is survived by his wife Hazel Ellen Milton Stroud of Tyler; sons Roy Lee Stroud Jr. of Tyler; Sam Stroud of Mount Pleasant, Joe Edward Stroud of Midlothian and Dewayne Stroud of Fort Worth; daughter Carol Ann Hembree of Tyler; 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Thelma Swafford.
Sturdivant
DAINGERFIELD - Juanita Sturdivant, 66, of Daingerfield, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001 at a Longview nursing home.
Ms. Sturdivant was born Feb. 6, 1934 in Avinger. She was employed by Lone Star Steel for 47 years. She was a Baptist.
She is survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law Edward and Nell Sturdivant of Lone Star, Bill and Jan Sturdivant of Diana; sisters and brothers-in-law Edith and John Storie of Jefferson, Ruth and Kenneth Hall of Hooks; numerous nieces and nephews.
Tompkins
John E. Tompkins, 82, of Mount Pleasant, died Friday, March 23, 2001 at Wadley Hospital in Texarkana.
Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 27 at Belcher Cemetery in Talco under the direction of Curry-Welborn Funeral Home. Everett Logan Jr. officiated.
Mr. Tompkins was born March 3, 1919 in Beckville. He was a WWII veteran, serving as a private in the Army. He was an airplane mechanic for Southwest Airmotive and a member of Grand Prairie Baptist Church in Grand Prairie. Formerly of Grand Prairie, Mr. Tompkins lived in Mount Pleasant for 25 years.
He is survived by his wife Alvis Tompkins; daughters Connie Tompkins, Mary Garrett; grandchildren Toni Sides, Ralph Sides; great-grandchildren Melanie Riddles, Amanda Sides, Alexander Sides, Reghan Sides.
Watson
BOGATA - James Clyde Watson, 84, of Bogata, died Sunday, April 1, 2001 at McCuistion Regional Medical Center in Paris.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 4 at Church of Christ in Bogata. Interment was in Highland Cemetery in Deport under the direction of Wood Funeral Home in Bogata.
Mr. Watson was born June 29, 1916 in the Fullbright Community, the son of Pete and Alma Senter Watson. He married Naomi Ruth Davidson, of Deport, Jan. 27, 1938. He served in the 8th Air Corps of the U.S. Army during World War II and worked for Humble Oil and Refining Company, later Exxon USA, retiring from Exxon in Jan. of 1977. In 1978 he began 17 years of service as Precinct Justice of the Peace of Red River County, retiring in January of 1995.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Barbara W. and John J. Hambrick of Paris; two granddaughters and their husbands Mignon and Dave Young of Round Rock, Meredith and Mike Hamel of Miami, Fla.; grandson John J. (Jack) Hambrick III; great-grandsons Parker Aidan and Jackson Young; sister and brother-in-law Kinny R. and Charles Tipping of Hughes Springs; brother-in-law Charles Davidson Jr. and his wife Joyce of Deport; sister-in-law Christine Nix and her husband Jim of Hooks. He was preceded in death by his wife Naomi Ruth Davidson on Feb. 20, 2001.
Westbrook
LINDEN - Vivian Pearl Westbrook, 87, of Linden and formerly of Talco, died Monday, March 26, 2001 at Sunbridge Nursing Home in Linden.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 28 at First Baptist Church of Talco. The Rev. Keith Blankenship officiated. Interment was in Rosalie Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home of Bogata.
Mrs. Westbrook was born April 29, 1913 in Johntown, the daughter of Tom and Sally Vaughan Smith. She was a retired schoolteacher, teaching in Halesboro, Johntown and Talco schools for more than 45 years. She was a longtime, active member of First Baptist Church of Talco.
She is survived by her niece Bobbie Shoffner of Jefferson. She was preceded in death by her husband Elbert Westbrook in 1950.
Williams
James H. (Iron) Williams, 80, of Mount Pleasant, died Monday, March 26, 2001 in Texarkana.
Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 29 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park under the direction of Bates-Cooper Funeral Home. Bro. Doyle Hayes officiated. Pallbearers were Randy Cameron, Danny Cameron, Delbert Boyd, Wayne Blalock, Jerry Lynn Richardson, Chad Rolan and Tony McGregor.
Mr. Williams was born Oct. 8, 1920 in Texarkana, Ark. He was a shop mechanic for American Petrofina Co. He was a coach and referee of baseball for 39 years and was an honorary reserve deputy for Titus County since 1997.
He is survived by his wife Fay Blalock Williams of Mount Pleasant; sons and daughters-in-law Phil and Liz Williams of Blossom, James “Buttons” and Tamie Williams of Mount Pleasant; brother Edgar McCain of North Carolina; sister Lucille Graves of Marshall; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents James Henry Williams Sr. and Lillian McCain Williams.
Alexander
Services for Gerald Wayne Alexander, 59, of Pryor, Okla., who died in Linden, were held at 3:30 p. m. on Monday, March 26, 2001 in Bates-Cooper Chapel Buriel was in Jones Chapel in Mount Pleasant.
Born Nov.2, 1941 in Texarkana, Mr. Alexanderwas the son of James RubertAlexanderand Dorothy Fay Whisinhunt Alexander. He was the manager of Pipe Manufacturing–Phillips Petroleum.
Survivors include his wife, Shelia Blundell Alexander of Pryor, Okla.; son GeraldWayn Alexander II of Pryor, Okla., daughters, Lisa Gale Alexander Choate of Pryor, Donna Sue Alexander Smith of Richardson and Penny Rebecca Wallace Ritter of Bartlesville, Okla.; brothers, James Ray Alexander of Tomball, Terry G. Alexandxer of Tomball and Joel E. Alexander of Mount Pleasant; aunt and uncle, Don and Billie Whitton of Mount Pleasant; six grandchildren, Gerald Wayne Alexander III, Sara Elizabeth Alexander, Tyler Scott (Tigger) Choate, Kelsey Gale (Rat) Choate, Ian Chase Ritter and Evan Ritter.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Benne Dale Alexander and Marlin Jerry Alexander.
Visitation will be fro m 7 to 9 p. m. on Sunday, March 25, 2001 at Bates-Cooper Funeral Home.
Bowers
DAINGERFIELD - Dr. Michael L. Bowers, 46, of Daingerfield, died Friday, March 23, 2001 at Titus Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were hwls at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 27 at First United Methodist Church in Hughes Springs. The Rev. Bluford Weikell officiated. Interment was at Hughes Springs Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home.
Dr. Bowers was born May 1, 1954 in Greenville. He was a dentist and was a member of the Texas Dental Association, American Dental Association, Texas First District Dental Society and the Chamber of Commerce of Hughes Springs. He was affiliated with the First United Methodist Church in Hughes Springs.
He is survived by his wife Vonita Bowers of Daingerfield; sons Aaron Michael Bowers, Matthew Raney Bowers, both of Hughes Springs; mother Ravenna Bowers of Hughes Springs; sister Donna Morris of Hughes Springs; brothers Jerry Glen Bowers of Hughes Springs, Larry Don Bowers of Mims; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father William Leon Bowers.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ralph Perritte Scholarship Fund through First National Bank of Hughes Springs.

PITTSBURG - Hoyd Branch, 64, of Pittsburg, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001 in Pittsburg.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 23 at First Baptist Church in Pittsburg.
The Rev. Kyle Smith will officiated. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Pittsburg under the direction of Erman Smith Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Robert Rogers, Kenneth Smith, Bird Old, James Moore, Jim Richards and Paul Mayben. Honorary pallbearers were be Bo Pilgrim and James Cavender.
Mr. Branch was born Aug. 31, 1936 in Sulphur Springs. He was affiliated with the First Baptist Church in Pittsburg. He served in the National Guard and was on the Region VIII Board of Directors. He was self-employed in the convenience store business.
He is survived by his wife Jan Branch of Pittsburg; sons Bobby Branch and Ken Branch, both of Pittsburg; grandchildren Jamie Branch and Bailey Branch, both of Pittsburg; sister and brother-in-law Kay and Harold Calvert of Mesquite; niece Karla Briggs of Mesquite; nephews Bradley Briggs and Austin Briggs, both of Mesquite; two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter Hughes and Vada Dossett Hughes.
