Claybrooks
MOUNT VERNON - Gladys Claybrooks, 87, of Mount Vernon, died Sunday, March 25, 2001 at East Texas Medical Center.
Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 28 at Harvey Funeral Home. Interment was in Fuquay Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ms. Claybrooks’ family.
Ms. Claybrooks was born Nov. 7, 1913 in the Hopewell Community, the daughter of George W. Bolin and Lommie Bell Tullar.
She is survived by her brothers Guy E. Bolin of Mount Vernon, G.W. Bolin of Irving; numerous other relatives and friends.
Conkle
BALCH SPRINGS - Rinford O. Conkle, 90, of Balch Springs, died Thursday, March 22, 2001 at a Dallas hospital.
Funeral services were at 7:30 p.m. Monday at First United Pentecostal Church in Grand Prairie. Interment was at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Nevills Chapel Cemetery in Mount Pleasant under the direction of Bean-Massey-Burge Funeral Home in Grand Prairie.
Mr. Conkle was born Aug. 11, 1910 in Mount Pleasant. He was a carpenter, retiring in 1996. He was a member of United Pentecostal Church in Balch Springs.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years Frances Conkle of Balch Springs; sons and daughters-in-law Billy R. and Nancy Conkle of Wylie, Verlan O. and Elaine Conkle of Arlington, Mike and Cara Conkle of Arlington, David Glen and Linda Conkle of Balch Springs; daughter Barbara Thurston of Arlington; sister Winona Johnson of Grand Prairie; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren.
Cunningham
MOUNT VERNON - A. Lou Cunningham, 88, of Mount Vernon, died Sunday, April 1, 2001 in Mount Vernon.
Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 4 at Harvey Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Vernon. Lee Emerson officiated. Interment was in Sulphur Bluff Cemetery in Hopkins County. Pallbearers were Mrs. Cunningham’s family.
Mrs. Cunningham was born Feb. 11, 1913 in Hopkins County, the daughter of Luther Emerson and Verona Moore.
She is survived by her daughter Nell Gustafson of Mount Vernon; brothers Glenn Emerson of Saltillo, LRoy Emerson of Sulphur Bluff, Lee Emerson of Sulphur Springs; sister Monna McClung of Sulphur Springs; granddaughter Wanda Nunes of Seagoville; great-grandchild Kristopher Nunes of Seagoville. She was preceded in death by her husband Ira Cunningham in 1986.
Gage
William Marvin Gage, 71, of Mount Pleasant, died Monday, March 26, 2001 at Titus Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 29 at Bates-Cooper Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Marlin Robey officiated. Interment was in Edwards Cemetery in Mount Pleasant. Pallbearers were Randy Dunn, James Shumate, Neil Rogers, Sarge Lovell, Gary Benson and James Newman. Honorary pallbearers were J.P. Lowry, James Ford and Kenneth Cox.
Mr. Gage was born Oct. 22, 1929 in Mauston, Wis. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War and a water chemist for Pilgrim’s Pride. He was a member of Dellwood Baptist Church, Habitat for Humanity and Mission Station at Dellwood Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife Edna Gage of Mount Pleasant; mother Bernadette Gage of Wisconsin; sons Michael William Gage of Kountz, Josh Gage of Mount Pleasant, Curtis Rose of Bee Branch, Ark.; daughters and sons-in-law Jan and Edward Hill of Mount Pleasant, Jenny and Robert Tucker of Kilgore, Jeanie Ruff of Dallas, Dianna Gage of Wisconsin, Peggy Gage of Houston; sisters Shirley Timm, Beatie Stewart and Gerri Shulman, all of Wisconsin; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; special friends David and Donna Rowe, Kay Gilpin, Frances Cox, Bill and Gayle Konkel, all of Mount Pleasant. He was preceded in death by his father Marvin Gage; daughter Annette Durbin.
Golightly
Henry J. Golightly Jr., 85, of Leesburg, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001 in Plano.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 31 at Plano East Church of Christ. Interment was in Restland Memorial Park under the direction of Restland Funeral Home in Dallas.
Mr. Golightly was born Aug. 18, 1915 in Dublin.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Alvis and Betty Golightly of Amarillo; daughter and son-in-law Karen and Richard Raitt of Plano; step-son and step-daughter-in-law Kirk and Linda Castleman of Humble; step-daughter and step-son-in-law Betsy and Bill Milligan of North Richland Hills; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister Gladys Brownlee of Odessa. He was preceded in death by his first wife Anita; second wife Dorothy; son Donald J. Golightly.
Goss
James Richard Goss, 85, of Mount Pleasant, died Saturday, March 24, 2001 at Titus Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 28 at First Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant. Dr. Clint Davis officiated. Interment was in Mount Vernon City Cemetery under the direction of Curry-Welborn Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Mr. Goss’ nephews. Honorary pallbearers were R.T. Blalock’s Sunday School Class.
Mr. Goss was born Nov. 19, 1915 in Riverton, Ala., the son of James Ruth Goss and Swan Elizabeth Hall. He was retired after 36 years as a civil service engineer for the U.S. government. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving as private specialist 6th class. Mr. Goss worked for General Dynamics, AFPRO office in Fort Worth. After moving from Fort Worth, Mr. Goss lived in Mount Pleasant for 27 years. He was a member of NARFE and the DAV, and he was a Shriner. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant where he served as a deacon.
He is survived by his wife Margarett Ella Parrish Goss; son and daughter-in-law James Richard and Nancy Goss; daughter and son in law, Margie Beth Goss and Dale Stodghill; sisters Katherine Goss Hawkins, Lois Ann Goss Zimmerman; grandchildren Kellie Goss, Megan Goss, Jennie Goss and Cliff West, Derek Stodghill, Drew Stodghill. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Travis Dayle Goss.

NAPLES - James E. (Jim) Green, 50, of Naples, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001 in Mount Pleasant.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 31 at Liberty Baptist Church. The Rev. Hugh Gibbs officiated. Interment was in Snowhill Cemetery under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home.
Mr. Green was born March 27, 1951 in Dallas. He was a Vietnam veteran and an employee of Armco Transportation Co. in Hughes Springs. He was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church in Naples and a longtime resident of Naples and Hughes Springs.
He is survived by his wife Myrtle Peace Green of Naples; daughter Tanya Griffith of Greenville; three step-daughters Chastity Fowler of Cincinnati, Ohio, Reland Fowler of Texarkana, Amy Fowler of Naples; four grandchildren; mother Pat Roberts of New Boston; father Randall Green of Marietta; brothers Randy Green of Mount Vernon, Larry Green of Marietta; sisters Charlotte Finney of Marietta, Cherrie Barrera of New Orleans, La; numerous nieces and nephews.
Greenfield
Opal Holcomb Greenfield, 90, of Mount Pleasant, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001 at Titus Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 31 at Bates-Cooper Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Steve Newton officiated. Interment was in Nevills Chapel Cemetery.
Mrs. Greenfield was born May 23, 1910 in Gunsight. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a homemaker.
She is survived by her sister Inez Plum of Mount Pleasant; nephew and his wife Terry and Ann Plum of Plano. She was preceded in death by her husband G.B. Greenfield; sister Vineta Holcomb; brother Bud Holcomb.
Jackson
Odessa Lee Jackson, 78, of Mount Pleasant, died Monday, March 26, 2001 at University of Texas Health Center in Tyler.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 29 at Curry-Welborn Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Mike Bowen and Harold Amerson officiated. Interment was in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Mount Pleasant.
Mrs. Jackson was born April 9, 1922 in Anahiem, Calif., the daughter of Mark L. Moore and Blanche Ethel Stewart. She was a housewife and a member of Choctaw Baptist Church where she served as secretary. Mrs. Jackson was a grandmother.
She is survived by her husband B.B. Jackson; sons Bernon B. Jackson, Jr., Gary D. Bearden; daughters Glendine Nelson, Jerry O. Hanson, Victoria L. Burns, Denise L. Parker; over 80 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son; Michael G. Bearden; daughter Melba J. Harrell.
Locke
COOKVILLE - E.W. (Bud) Locke, 69, of Cookville, died Sunday, April 1, 2001 at Titus Regional Medical Center.
A memorial service was at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 4 at Argo Baptist Church. Bro. Henry Blackmon officiated. Bates-Cooper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Locke was born Sept. 27, 1931 in Lurray, Mo. He was self-employed in the tree service business.
He is survived by his wife Wanda Bird Locke of Cookville; sons Everett G. Locke of Cookville, Bruce A. Locke of Cypress Springs, Kelton W. Locke of Spanway, Wash.; daughter Wanda Lynn Chambers of Portland, Ore.; 12 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; sisters Berdene Sutter of Colorado, LaVerta Weatherspoon of Arizona, Shirley Funk of Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents Chester W. Locke and Mildred Jane Locke; three brothers; one sister.
McLeroy
LONGVIEW - Carolyn Binnion McLeroy, 63, of Longview and formerly of Mount Pleasant, died Sunday, March 25, 2001 at Regional Hospital.
Mrs. McLeroy was born Jan. 31, 1938 in Mount Pleasant, the daughter of Bert Binnion and Mary Preddy Binnion.
She is survived by four children, all of Longview; sisters Peggy Bennett of Jefferson, Billie B. Stevens of Mount Pleasant; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband A.Z. McLeroy.
Pool
LONGVIEW - Ruth Brewster Pool, 73, of Longview, died Monday, March 26, 2001 in a Longview hospital.
Mrs. Pool was a former resident of Mount Pleasant.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 29 at Rader Funeral Home Chapel in Longview. Eddie Gooch officiated. A private family service of entombment followed in the Rosewood Park Chapel Mausoleum.
Mrs. Pool was born Dec. 4, 1927 in Brownwood, the daughter of John B. and Ruby Brewster. She was a member of the Pinecrest Country Club and of the Alpine Church of Christ. She was a resident of Longview for 35 years and a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband Gilbert Pool of Longview; daughter and son-in-law Dana and Robert Taylor of Longview; sister and brother-in-law Winona and Larry Shankle of Tyler; brother Robert Brewster of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren Andrea Taylor of Arlington, Scott and Mari Smith of Longview; great-grandchild Dylan Thompson.
