Mr. McAdams
Robert Willis McAdams, 86, died Feb. 21, 2004 at Hamilton. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Feb. 23 at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Schibler officiating. Burial followed in the Boggy Cemetery near Cranfills Gap.
Mr. McAdams was born June 13, 1917 in Hamilton County near Cranfills Gap. He was the son of the late Willis Benton and Emma Elsie Parks McAdams.
On May 10, 1936 he was married to Mattie Hazel Slater. As a young married couple they lived with his parents on the family farm near Cranfills Gap until they could get started on their own, which was a common custom of the time.
In 1947, they moved to the Fairy community where they raised their family. The second year they were at Fairy as the crops were beginning to grow a hail storm wiped out all of the hard work they had done.
Mr. McAdams did many different kinds of work, farming and raising livestock either to sell, or for food for his family. In 1950 he began driving a school bus for the Fairy school while continuing his farming with much of it being done by the lights of the tractor.
In 1953 he added school custodian to the bus driving and farming. The custodian job involved the whole family pitching in to see that the school plant was ready for the next day’s operation.
In 1963 they moved from Fairy to Hamilton. For a number of years, he worked as the projectionist at the theater, a job he dearly loved, along with his daytime job as an independent carpenter and painter. Later he worked for the Hamilton School helping take care of the buses and the athletic field. Mr. McAdams believed in hard work, in sticking to a project until it was completed and in being on time.
