Faye Shuffield, 93, of Hamilton, died on July 28, 2008 in the Hamilton Healthcare Center. Funeral services were held Aug. 1 in the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Pete Jordan officiating. Burial followed in the Oakwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Shuffield was born June 25, 1915 in Hamilton County, the daughter of John and Nannie Tippie McMullen.
She worked as a seamstress and a clerk in Hamilton for many years. She was a member of the Park Heights Church of Christ.
Survivors include her daughter, Lou Shuffield Lerche of Alvin; two sisters, Jean Taylor and Judy Overton, both of Brownwood; and a granddaughter, Gretchen Monard of Pearland.

Meta Sommerfeld
Meta Sommerfeld 85, of Hamilton died Aug. 5, 2008 in the Hamilton Healthcare Center. Funeral Services will be held Thursday Aug. 7 at 2:30 p.m. in the St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Meissner officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

Frances Winifred Coston
Frances Winifred Coston, 79, of Hamilton died Aug. 6, 2008 in the Hamilton Healthcare Center. Funeral services were held Aug. 9 at 10 a.m. the Live Oak Cemetery Chapel with Matt Hall officiating. Burial followed in the Live Oak Cemetery.
Ms. Coston was born June 25, 1929 in Hamilton County, the daughter of Byron Eugene and Sarah Alice Adcock Coston. She was a member of the Bethel Methodist Church.
Survivors include her two brothers, Raymond and Rodger Coston.
Serving as pallbearers were Steven Ray Coston, Mickey Hunt, Cecil Ray Bishop, Nathan Hunt, Adam Coston, Jared Hunt, Brook Beezley.

Bernard D. Flatt, D.C.
Bernard D. Flatt, 83, of Evant died Aug. 5, 2008 in Evant. Funeral services were held Aug. 9 at First Baptist Church in Evant. Burial was in Murphree Cemetery.
He was born March 9, 1925 in Hamilton County, the son of Annon Lee Flatt and Ora Hodo. He was married to Lucille Davidson.
He was a graduate of Evant High School and Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis Missouri. Dr. Flatt practiced chiropractic in Smithville, Dallas and Cedar Creek Lake.
He retired to Evant in the early 1990s. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and a 50-year member of the Bee House Masonic Lodge.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 25 years.
Survivors include a daugh-ter, Darcille Broussard and husband Louis of Evant; a son, Phillip A. Flatt of Evant; five grandchildren, Aaron, Jennifer, Rick, Jessica, Jason and Hillary; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Wanda Flatt Piper of Temple; aunts and uncles, Duella Hodo and Edna and D.W. McDonald, all of Evant; and a nephew, Trent Piper of McGregor.
Memorials may be made to Scottish Rite Cripple Children House in Dallas.

Meta Alwine Heptner Sommerfeld
Meta Alwine Heptner Sommerfeld, 85, died Aug. 5, 2008 after a short illness. She spent her last days at Hamilton Healthcare nursing home. Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 7 at St. John Lutheran Church in Hamilton.
Mrs. Sommerfeld was one of 10 children born to Joseph and Emma Zimmerman Heptner. She spent her entire life in and around the Hamilton County area, living her younger years in the Pottsville, Priddy and Shive areas.
She was married to Paul Sommerfeld in August, 1941 and they lived in the Liveoak-Ohio area on her husband’s family farm until 1989 when they moved to Hamilton.
While on the farm, Meta was very helpful in tending to crops and livestock chores. She enjoyed gardening and she canned most of her vegetables. She liked to cook, sew and quilt. Mrs. Sommerfeld enjoyed visiting with her brothers and sisters and having some of their children spend summer vacations on the farm. She was Lutheran by faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2004, a sister and two brothers.
Survivors include her children, Joyce Sommerfeld and James Sommerfeld and wife Sheryl, all of Hamilton and Billy Paul Sommerfeld and wife Frances of Fairland, Okla.; two grandchildren, Gregg Sommerfeld and wife Natalee of Granbury and Tamra McGaughy and husband Kery of Euless; two great-grandchildren, Austin Sommerfeld and Anna Sommerfeld of Granbury; sister, Elsa Senger of Goldthwaite, Anne Garrett and husband George of Bryan, Ida Sommerfeld and Gertrude Schrank of Hamilton; brothers, Walter Heptner and wife Faye of Smithville and Milton Heptner of Lockhart; sister-in-law Joyce Heptner of Burkburnett.
Serving as pallbearers were Curtis Heptner, Cecil Scott, Joe Sommerfeld, Dickie Coleman, Martin Seider and Neil Holt.
Honorary pallbearers were Cheryl Brown, Sharon Roderick and El Gene Sommerfeld.

Judge Clint (Junior) Crosby
Judge Clint Crosby, Jr. died Wednesday, Aug. 13 in Hamilton. Funeral Services were held Aug. 16 at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Jonesboro. Burial followed in Bulman Cemetery.
Mr. Crosby was born Jan. 17, 1925, the son of Judge Clint and Mary Elizabeth White Crosby. He was a graduate of Jonesboro High School. He also attended Weatherford Junior College prior to being drafted to serve in the United States military in World War II.
He was well known for his ability to play the piano, albeit self-taught. Various organizations and churches often asked him to play for their events or church services.
Mr. Crosby is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jack M. Crosby, who died in World War II in 1944.
Survivors include a sister, Mary Lou Crosby and a host of cousins and friends. It is requested that memorials be made to Bulman Cemetery, C/O Martha Courtney, Box 10278, CR 301, Jonesboro, TX 76538.

Carol Horne Hughes
Carol Horne Hughes, 70,of Marble Falls, died Aug. 18, 2008 after a long battle with ovarian cancer. Funeral services are set for Thursday, Aug. 21 at 10 a.m. at the Church of Christ in Marble Falls. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park in Waco.
Mrs. Hughes was a counselor with the Marble Falls School District from 1982 to 2001. She was a school teacher for more than 30 years in Marble Falls, Muleshoe, McGregor, Desoto, and Lorena.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold Horne, in 1985.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Hughes of Houston; son and daughter-in-law Monte and Rosa Marie Horne of Hamilton; son and daughter-in-law Cory and Erin Horne of Spring; sister and brother-in-law Mary and Bill Terry of Denison; brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Savannah Morris of Waco; grandchildren, Marissa Horne, Caleb Horne, and Rainer Horne; a niece and her husband Malena and Jeff Rampy of Austin and also survived by Betty Jo and Billy Pat Bostic of Eddy.

Lillian Jordan Early, formerly of Brownwood, died Sunday, Aug. 17 2008 in Grapevine at the age of 86. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 23 at 1:30 p.m., in the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Brownwood with Rev. Bill Slaymaker and Brent Downs officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday evening, Aug. 22, from 6-8 p.m. at Davis Morris Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Greenleaf Cemetery in Brownwood.
There will be a gathering for family and friends at home of Mr. Dave and Dr. Leslie Napier, 4614 Shadywood Lane, Colleyville, on Thursday, Aug. 21 from 5-7 p.m.
Mrs. Early was born Aug. 25, 1921 in Brady, the daughter of the late Richard and Mary Morris. She was married to Arthur M. Jordan on Oct. 31, 1940 in Menard. He preceded her in death on Sept. 4, 1980. She was married to Charles Early in 1991 and he died in 2002.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Edith Knable and Erma McCarter, two brothers, Calvin and Arthur Morris, and one son, Roy Dean Farris.
She was much loved and revered by a host of family and friends. Because she grew up in impoverished conditions, she loved sharing with others and had a remarkable work ethic. Her contagious smile and laugh will not be forgotten by those who knew her. She loved helping others and telling stories on herself that made others enjoy being around her. She was affectionately known as “Nana” to grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of others and she could never seem to do enough for those she loved.
Playing bingo was one of her favorite pastimes, as much for being with friends as for the game itself. She also loved to go fishing and she even attended night classes and earned a GED diploma in her early sixties. She was a Baptist. She lived most of her life in Brownwood, but moved to Grapevine in 2002 where she was lovingly cared for by her daughter until her death.
Survivors include a son, Riney Jordan and his wife, Karen, of Hamilton; a daughter, Shirley Armstrong of Grapevine; one stepson, Jerry Jordan of California; one brother, Kenneth Morris of Brady; eight grandchildren, Paige DeJacimo, Leslie Napier, Dena Farris-Peltz, Le’Ann Downs, Todd Jordan, Sarah Newburn, Julianne Bryson and Bixby Jordan; and twenty-two great-grandchildren, Zachary Napier, Caleb Downs, Haley Downs, Annie Downs, Taylor Jordan, Dustin Jordan, Luke Newburn, Anna Rose Newburn, Sam Newburn, Hannah Armstrong, Jordan DeJacimo, William DeJacimo, Jacob DeJacimo, Lily Peltz, Makoa Bryson, Koji Bryson, Aleia Jordan, Jace Jordan, Christian Selman, Carlene Selman, Reilly Sleman and Mia Selman along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Robin Newton
Robin Newton, 54, of Hamilton, died Aug. 7, 2008 in the Seaton Medical Center in Austin. A memorial service was held on Aug. 17 at the Park Heights Church of Christ.
Mr. Newton was born Sept. 29, 1953 in Lancaster Pa., the son of Dulan and Eva Fasnacht Newton.
He was married to Debra Mae Eaby in Ephrata PA. on Dec. 31, 1972. He worked as a mechanic at Brumbalow Motor Company in Hamilton for many years and was a member of the Park Heights Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife of Hamilton; two children, Yvonne Owen of Houston and Isaac Newton of Hamilton; three grandchildren, Cody Kennedy, Rae Owen, and Leah Newton; two brothers, Rodney Newton of Hamilton and Nevin Newton of Arkansas.

Mr. Olson
Joseph Lynn Olson, 50, died July 7, 2003 in Austin following a sudden massive stroke. Funeral services were held July 10 at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel in Hamilton with burial following in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Father Hilario Guajardo officiating.
He was born February 1, 1953 at Meridian, the son of Ollie Joseph (Slim) Olson and Katherine Grant Olson.
Mr. Olson was a graduate of Hamilton High School, and he received his college degree from McMurry College in 1975. He not only loved music, he was a talented musician, playing the organ and piano for churches and weddings. He worked in the restaurant and candle business, but his true calling was a teacher in the Fort Worth public and private schools. He was a beloved son and devoted and loyal friend.
Survivors include his parents, Ollie and Katherine Olson; a sister, Kathy Lyons of Ft. Wayne, In.; a brother Reginald Olson and his wife Mary of Waco as well as Margaret Grant, Susan Anglin and family and Cinthia Wilson and family.
Pallbearers were Roger Collins, Matthew McEntire, John Jeffrees, Bill Robinson, Kerry Newman, Calvin Hudson and Micah Johnson. Honorary pallbearers were Andrew Anglin, Michael Olson and Shea Wilson.

Vida Dee Hall 83, died July 7, 2003 at the Forrest Ridge Care Center in Hamilton. Graveside funeral services were held July 12 at the New I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Hamilton.
Mrs. Hall was born November 25, 1919 in Hamilton County, the daughter of Ardist DeLomas Glover and Vida Adline Stevens Glover.
She was a dietitian working for Hillcrest Nursing Home for many years prior to retirement.
Mrs. Hall is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arvol Dean Hall and three brothers.
Survivors include one sister, June Conley of Granbury; a sister-in-law, Marcille Glover of Livingston; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and great- great-nieces and nephews.

Frank Lesley New, 94, of Hico died July 13 in Hico. Funeral services will be conducted July 16 at 10 a.m. at Rutledge-Jones Funeral Home. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Stephenville, Rev. Bob Ray officiating.
Mr. New was born Jan 3, 1909 in Bosque County and lived his entire life in the Hico area. He was married to Eunice Simpson on Jan. 3, 1928. He was a farmer and rancher and a member of Fairy Baptist Church.
Survivors include his sons, Leon New of Amarillo and Truett New of Fort Worth; a daughter, Anita Wood of Fairy; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
