Mr. Tomblin
Grover Dean Tomblin, 78, died Feb. 27, 2005, at his home in Evant with his wife, Lorene, by his side. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Feb. 29 in the First United Methodist Church in Evant with Rev. James Marrs officiating. Burial followed in the Elgin City Cemetery.
He was born in LaGrange on Nov. 25, 1926, the son of C. B. and Jo Thompson Tomblin. He was a member of the 1945 Gatesville High School graduating class and was inducted into the service on March 26, 1945. He served with the 318 1st Signal Service Battalion in Okinawa, achieved the rank of sergeant and as honorable discharged in December, 1946.
After the war, Mr. Tomblin worked in highway construction. He was married to Lorene Prinz, on Ausgust 28, 1949, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Coupland. The couple lived in in many different areas of Texas due to his employment and were fortunate to acquire numerous and long lasting friendships.
After living in the Dallas area for 30 years, he retired in 1984 and the couple made their home in Evant. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Evant and American Legion Post 0042.
Mr. Tomblin was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jack Tomblin; and a sister, Janie Tomblin.
Survivors include his wife, Lorene; a brother, W. L. Tomblin and wife, Fran, of Georgetown; a sister, Mary Jo Niewald and husband, Gus, of St. Louis, Missouri; his nieces, Elaine Heinzke-Hennig, Lena Jo and Amanda Lindemann and Cheryl and Lindsey Willis.
Pallbearers were friends and former co-workers James Miller, Charlie Wolff, Leroy Boothe, Mike Pallanez, Roscoe Friesenhahn, and Bill Hennig.
Honorary pallbearers were special friends Jack Dahlstrom, Sr., Morris Brown, Wallace Levy, Joe Manning, and Juan Hernandez and nephews Roger Simmons, Erich Simmons, Jeff Willis, Larry Prinz, Ronnie Prinz, Ray Niewald, John Lindemann, and Johnny Lindemann.

Mrs. Craig
Ola Zelphy Craig, 93, of Hamilton died February 28, 2005 at Hamilton. Funeral services were set for March 2 in the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lawrence Mulloy officiating. Burial was to be in the New I.O.O. F. Cemetery.
Mrs. Craig was born February 1, 1912 at Jonesboro the daughter of John William and Maggie Davidson Eary. She was married to Charlie Henry Craig on Dec. 26, 1926 at Hamilton and he preceded her in death on July 13, 1982.
Mrs. Craig was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of the Providence Peace Makers Quilting Club and the Providence Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by a stepson, Charles Henry Craig; a son, Robert Lewis Craig; a grandson, Kenneth Wayne Craig; three sisters and two bothers.
Survivors include five children, Tommy Joe Craig, James Craig, Wayne Craig, Dean Craig and Randall Craig all of Hamilton; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and a sister, Pearl Winkler of Hamilton.

Mr. Atchley
Darvin Atchley, 85, died in Hamilton Feb. 21, 2005. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Feb. 23 in the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Keith Felton officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery.
He was born Jan. 8, 1920, the son of Ernest A. Atchley and Allie Flippen Atchley in the West Point community of Hamilton County.
He grew up working on the family farm. He was married to Mary Loyce Williams on May 24, 1940 at Hamilton by Brother Lynn Dalton.
On January 27, 1945 he was inducted into the Navy. He was stationed at Naval Training Center, San Diego, Calif., aboard the USS LST 213 and at Camp Wallace, Texas. He was awarded the American Area Campaign, Asiatic Pacific Area and the World War II Victory Medals. He was discharged from the service in April of 1946.
After his discharge, he worked as a carpenter building homes and many buildings in Hamilton. He and one other man wheel barrowed all the concrete for the floor of Lawson Implement on Henry Street in one day.
He was also one of the builders of the Presbyterian Church. For a number of years he worked in the construction of oil refineries. He was an avid gardener, growing prize tomatoes and other vegetables.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Loyce Atchley of Hamilton; a daughter, Linda Pearce of Hamilton; two grandchildren, Lynn Pearce and wife Pam of Hamilton and Danan Pearce of Frisco; three great-grandchildren, James Lynn Pearce, Sarah Dawn Pearce and Mellisa Ann Pearce; four sisters, Ola Mae Warren and Athleen Prazak, both of Hamilton, Garvine Chumney of Fort Worth and Lavada Spriwell of Dawson.
Pallbearers were Jimmie Schrank, Robert Schrank, James Lively, Steve Warren, Bill J. Warren and Kelly Fowler.
Honorary Pallbearers were Rex Robinson, Lewis Ray and J.D. Atchley.

Maudie Inez Callan, 93, died Feb. 25, 2005 at Hamilton. Funeral services were held Feb. 27, 2005 in the Riley Funeral Home/Evant Chapel in Evant with Rev. David Bonnet officiating. Burial followed in the Murphree Cemetery at Evant.
She was born Sept. 19, 1911 at Antelope Mountain, Coryell County, the daughter of William and Elizabeth Manning Hill.
She was married to Raymond Callan in 1926 in Coryell County, he preceded her in death on June 6, 1969.
She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was a helpmate to her husband, working in the fields as well as taking care of the home and children. She was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband; a son Jimmy Dean Callan; three sisters and six brothers.
Survivors include her three daughters, Margaret Stephens of Evant, Billie Jo Sims of Albuquerque, NM, Anna Vera Sellers of Mansfield and a son, R.G. Callan of Evant; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and a sister, Vera Richardson of Spokane, Washington.

Mr. Wagner
Raymond Paul “Lucky” Wagner III, 44, of Shelby, died Feb. 22, 2005 in Brackenridge Hospital in Austin. Funeral services were held Feb. 26 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Shelby with Pastor Pam Werrell officiating. Burial was in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham under the auspices of Hubert Lodge 67, A.F. and A.M.
He was born July 15, 1960 in Brenham, the son of R.P. Jr. and Willie Mae Boeker Wagner. He was baptized Aug. 28, 1960 in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Shelby by the Rev. Waldemar Wendell and confirmed June 2, 1974 in the same church by the Rev. Don Vlasak. He was a graduate of Bellville High School.
Mr. Wagner was employed as a ranch manager for Wichita Ranch in Brenham. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Shelby, Hubert Lodge 67, A.F. and A.M. American Quarter Horse Association, Burton Booster Club and was active in all Washington County Little League events.
Mr. Wagner was preceded in death by his sister, Donna Jean Wagner; brothers-in-law, David Roesler and L.C. Bauerkemper; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Boeker and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond P. Wagner Sr. and his mother-in-law, Juanita Payne.
Survivors include his son, Cody Wagner of Brenham; daughter, Cacie Wagner of Burton; parents, R.P. and Willie Mae Wagner of Shelby; sisters and brother-in-law, Nancy Roesler of Brenham, Linda and Rudy Tiemann of Brenham and Kelly Bauerkemper of Round Top; the mother of his children, Kathy Payne Wagner of Burton; father-in-law, Donald “Duck” Payne of Jonesboro; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Doug and Kathleen Payne and Terry and Jerald Short; numerous nieces and nephews and a great-niece and great-nephew as well as a special friend, Krissy Johnson.
Pallbearers were Roy Carter, Bennett Sachtleben, Robert Tappe, Craig Bauer, Gene Krivacka, Bryan Kirts, Landry Fuchs and Polly Hollar. Relatives and friends were considered honorary pallbearers.

Mrs. Clutter
Margaret E. Clutter, a lifelong resident of Kansas City and Independence area, died March 9 at the Hamilton General Hospital. Services were held March 14 at Mt. Washington Forever Cemetery in Independence, Mo.
She was born Feb. 19, 1915 at Lawton, Kan., the daughter of Roma Butler and Hattie Swoveland Butler. She was married to Guy D. Clutter on Aug. 23, 1943. He preceded her in death on Jan. 11, 1970.
During WWII she worked at Lake City Arsenal. She worked in the Kansas City garment industry for 47 years and prior to moving to Texas she worked at McDonalds on Highway 24 for ten years.
Mrs. Clutter was an active member of VFW Post 1000 Women’s Auxiliary, Women’s DAV Auxiliary, Fraternal Order Eagles, Tops and Blue Ridge Assembly of God.
She had many friends and was sad to leave them at the age of 88 to move to Texas to be close to her family. Arriving in Texas she made many new friends at Forrest Ridge Care Center.
During her stay she helped with activities, assisted with nursing home patients and always had a smile for everyone. She loved to be with her family and especially enjoyed going fishing. She thought everyone should fish, no mater what their age.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five brothers, three sisters, two nephews and a niece.

John Paul Massingill, 20, of Jonesboro, died March 14 in Hamilton County. Funeral services were held March 18 at First Baptist Church of Gatesville with Reverends Miles Miears, Don McCollum and Darrell Wallace officiating. Burial with full military honors followed at Evergreen Cemetery in Hamilton County.
He was born Aug. 10, 1984 in Clifton. He grew up in Jonesboro and graduated from Jonesboro High School in 2003.
While in high school Mr. Massingill enjoyed and participated in sports and was active in Future Farmers of America where he served as president. He served in the Marine Corps Reserve since the summer of 2003. He worked for Lilljedahl Construction and loved hard work and hauling hay. He was active in the Gatesville Boxing Club and was currently enrolled at Central Texas College. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro.
Survivors include his mother, Kim Patterson and husband Buster of Gatesville; father, Kenny Massingill of Jonesboro; grandparents, Paul and Margaret Massingill of Jonesboro, John (Bill) and Sue Burdett of Gatesville, Robert (Pat) and JoAnn Patterson of Gatesville; brothers, Matt Massingill of Gatesville and Robert and Matthew Patterson of Gatesville and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Pallbearers were Matt Massingill, Brian Lusk, Cody McFarlin, Kane Necessary, Coty Malden, Kris Puryear, Scotty Lilljedahl, Dane Barron, Zeb Johnson and John Johnson.

Frances Ivie, 76, of Dublin died March 16, 2005 at Golden Age Manor in Dublin. Funeral services were held at Harrell Memorial Chapel on March 19 with Dean Bradley officiating. Burial was in Gardens of Memory.
She was born March 9, 1929 in Erath County, the daughter of Thomas A. Moncrief and Bessy Vera Fails.
She owned a child day care business.
Mrs. Ivie was married to Earl N. Ivie on June 1, 1947 in Erath County. She was a member of Community Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by a daughter, Patsy Gilbert.
Survivors include her husband of Dublin, two daughters, Vera Nasser of Dublin and Tommie Brunnett of Mesa Ariz.; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Cheatwood of Crowley and Florine Bundrent of Dublin; four brothers, Len Moncrief of Seldon, Jimmy Moncrief of Hamilton, Travis Moncrief of Granbury, John Moncrief of Crowley and James Moncrief of Dublin.

Mary Opal West 98 died at Plano March 15, 2005. Funeral services were held March 18 at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel in Hamilton with burial following in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Mrs. West was born March 14, 1907 at Hamilton, the daughter of Robert Lee West and Dollie Colwell West.
After graduating from Hamilton High School in 1925 she attended Daniel Baker College in Brownwood, obtaining her elementary teaching certificate and launching a career of 43 years in the public schools.
She continued her education taking summer classes at Tarleton College and earning her B.S. degree from North Texas Teacher’s College at Denton in 1939. In 1951 she earned her Master of Arts Degree in Library Science from the University of Denver.
Mrs. West also did work at the University of Texas and at UCLA at Los Angeles. She developed a first class library for the Hamilton schools and for her outstanding work in this area was inducted into the Virgil M. Santy Honor Society.
After retirement Opal volunteered to work in the Hamilton Public Library and ended up working full time. She also headed the committee that compiled the book “A History of Hamilton County Texas.”
In 1980 she was awarded Outstanding Citizen Award for Hamilton County for her years of dedication as a teacher and community leader. She was a member of Park Heights Church of Christ. In 1999 she moved to Plano to live with her sister.
Survivors include a sister Ethel Lou West Anderson of Plano, three nephews and their wives; Sid and Elaine Anderson of Plano, Freddie and Marsha Anderson of Allen and Bernard (Bernie) and Julie West of Waco; a niece, Mary Jane Reinach, her husband Siegmund and their daughter Michelle of Radcliff, KY and great nieces and nephews Lisa Anderson and Brian Anderson of Plano, Brady Anderson of Baton Rogue, LA, Christopher Anderson of Madisonville, LA and by a number of cousins.

Mrs. Daniel
Nadine Daniel, 88, of comanche died March 18, 2005 in the Comanche Consolidated Hospital. Funeral services were held March 20 in the Hall and Sons Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in the Toliver Cemetery in Lamkin.
She was born July 20, 1916 in Comanche, the daughter of Ed Guthrie and Clara McNeal Guthrie.
She was married to Huland Arnold Daniel on Sept. 12, 1936. He preceded her in death on Aug. 11, 1988.
Mrs. Daniel was a seamstress and retired from the Comanche Sewing Plant.
She was a member of the House of Prayer in Comanche.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Virginia Daniel on June 30, 1000; two sisters, Marie Wallace and Geraldene Carrouth Carter and a brother, Elbert Guthrie.
Survivors include a son, Joe Daniel and Tami of Comanche; a granddaughter, Jodi Gaines and Doug of Comanche; two grandsons, Jeff Strube and Kyle Strube of Comanche, two sisters-in-law, Margie Daniel of Comanche and Wanda Schwartz and Paul of Priddy.
