Mrs. Lawson
Clara Lucille Lawson, 81, died Oct. 2, 2002 morning at Hamilton Nursing Home.
She was born November 21, 1920 at Hamilton the daughter of the Jeff and Hauttie Virginia Blackwell Babbitt.
She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She worked for Patties of Texas and the Comanche Sewing Factory prior to working at Alexander Molding Mill. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Vivki Goble of Dallas and Jean Marshall of Centerville; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister Ann McDonald of Granbury and a brother Allan Babbitt of Hamilton survive.
She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother.
Pallbearers were Joe D. Cathey, Bobby Cathey, Gilbert Donald, Cecil Kirkland, Chris Andrews and Robert Marshall.

Mr. Couch
Preston Couch, 94, died Oct. 2 at Hamilton Hospital. Funeral services were held Oct. 5 at the Comanche Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ronnie Calcote officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Comanche County.
He was born May 15, 1908 in Texas, the son of Will P. and Emma (Ray) Couch.
Mr. Couch was an assistant lineman for the Comanche R.E.A. and a member of the Pettit Baptist Church.
He was married to Floy Pettit in Gustine on Oct. 15, 1927. She preceded him in death on April 3, 1986. On June 17, 1988, he married Coda Harris in Energy.
Survivors include his wife, Coda Harris Couch of Energy; a son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Sue Couch of Gustine; daughter and son-in-law, Juanell and Scott Boyd of Comanche; grandchildren, Debbi and Joe Child, Diana and Jackie McDonald, Lisa and Shawn Cone and ten great-grandchildren.

Ardist Dewey Conley 43 of Evant died at his home Thursday October 3, 2002. Graveside funeral services were held Monday, October 7, 2002 at the New I.O.O.F. Cemetery with Rev. John Franklin officiating.
Mr. Conley was born January 21, 1959 at Fort Worth, the son of John Leslie Conley and June Glover Conley.
He was a painter and musician loving to play the guitar. He enjoyed visiting with people and helping other whenever they needed help.
Survivors include his mother June Conley of Evant; four sisters, Angie Medlin of Fort Worth; Beth Conley of Fort Worth; Sarah Prater and her husband Charles of Granbury; Tracy Reed and her husband Skip of Fort Worth; five brothers, Darnell Sellers and wife Marty of Waco, Johnny Conley of Fort Worth, Glenn Conley and wife Shirley of Granbury, James Conley of Tyler and Matthew Conley of Roseland, a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
His father precedes him in death.

David Marion “Dave” Kirkland, 75, of Brownwood, died Oct. 5, 2002 at Cross Country Health Care Center in Brownwood. Graveside services will be held Oct. 9 at Greenleaf Cemetery with Rev. Glenn Fuston officiating. Burial will be at Greenleaf Cemetery.
Mr. Kirkland was born Sept. 10, 1927 in Hico. Since 1949 he had lived in Brownwood. He was married to Mary Bell Carroll in Brownwood on Jan. 24, 1953.
He served in the U.S. Army and retired as a truck mechanic in 1994. Prior to that, he was the owner of Dave’s Truck Repair in Brownwood on Broadway Street.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jessie David Kirkland and Alice Green Kirkland and two sisters, Charletta and Mildred.
Survivors include his wife of Brownwood; two daughters, Sue Penny and husband John of Alvarado, Karan Browne and husband Randy of Brownwood; a son, Jody Kirkland and wife Laura of Austin; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; one sister, Juanita Bullard of Fairy; three brothers, Cecil Kirkland and wife Barbara and Kenny Kirkland and wife Charlene, all of Hamilton and Bobby Kirkland and wife Becky of Waco; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Whitt
Knox Whitt, 76, of Gatesville, died Oct. 2, 2002 at his residence. Funeral services were held Oct. 5 at Gatesville Funeral Home Chapel with Deral McWhorter officiating. Burial will follow at the Pearl Cemetery.
He was born May 21, 1926 in Pearl, the son of Holbert and Dessie Manning Whitt. He served in the US Army during World War II.
He was married to Anna Sanders on July 21, 1945 and worked for Civil Service for 28 years. He served for 23 years in the Gatesville Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Whitt was an elder at Cedar Ridge Church of Christ. He loved being outdoors, fishing and he loved his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Whitt of Gatesville; two sons, Jimmy Whitt and wife Judy of Hamilton, Danny Whitt and wife Janet of Gatesville; grandchildren, Terri Martin, Jayson Whitt, Brandon Whitt and Jamie Whitt; great grandchildren, Brad and Megan Martin, Cody and Julia Whitt, Ashley Whitt and Alex Whitt.

Stephen Douglas Jacks, 47, died at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Biringham, Ala. He was buried at Walker Memorial Gardens with more than 150 area officers participating in the graveside services.
He was born Oct. 11, 1954, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jacks. He served as an investigator at Walker County Sheriffs Department, where he had been employed since 1989. He worked with surrounding counties such as Carbon Hill and Dora Ala.
He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Jacks and a brother, Ronald Jacks.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry Jacks; three daughters, Olivia, Ashley and Megan, all of Jasper, Ala., his stepmother, Zella Jacks New; a sister, Barbara Jacks Kauitzsch; a niece, Jessica; two nephews, James and Justin Thompson, all of Hamilton; Charles and Christine Smith and Tony Smith of Jasper, Ala.

Leroy P. Stubbs, 67, died Sept. 24 at his home at Canyon Lake. Memorial services were held on Sept. 27.
Mr. Stubbs was born on Dec. 21, 1935 at Spring Creek Community in Young County, the son of Ernest Denver and Capatola Smith Stubbs.
He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict and was a teacher in the Odessa area for a number of years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include two children, Charles Stubbs and Marcia Tombosky; three grandchildren, McKenzie and Morgan Stubbs and Zacharias Tombosky, all of Odessa; a brother, Jay Stubbs of Odessa; two sisters, Jane Hatch of Odessa and Joy Garrett of Hamilton and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Dollar
Lee Roy Dollar, 80, a retired electrician, died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003 at an Arlington hospital. Funeral services were held Jan. 23 at Moore Funeral Home Chapel in Arlington. Burial was in Moore Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Dollar was born Oct. 28, 1922 in Tarrant County and was a lifelong Arlington area resident. He was raised south of Arlington in the Webb-Brittan Area of Tarrant County.
He retired from General Dynamics in 1975 after 27 years of employment. Mr. Dollar was active in farming and ranching in Tarrant and Hamilton County.
He was married to Ruth Gibbons Dollar on Aug. 23, 1947. He was a member of Fielder Road Baptist Church in Arlington and the Mansfield Masonic Lodge #331 for 56 years. He was also a member of the Moslah Temple and Scottish Rite of Fort Worth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Izora and his brothers, Ralph and Raymond.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Dollar of Arlington; a son, Robert Dollar and wife Mary of Arlington and a grandson, David Dollar of Arlington.

Mr. Wenzel
Wilbert Theador "Joker" Wenzel 76, died Jan. 24, 2003. Funeral services were held Jan. 27, 2003 at St. John Lutheran Church in Hamilton with Rev. Russell Nebhut officiating.
Mr. Wenzel was born April 8, 1926 in the Liberty Community of Hamilton County, the son of the late William Herman Wenzel and Emma Louise Kelm Wenzel.
He worked for Reinert Feed Mill for many years prior to moving to West Henry Feed Store where he worked until his retirement. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.
Mr. Wenzel was married to Jewell Estell Medart at Georgetown on Sept. 19, 1964. She precedes him in death on February 17, 1995.
Survivors include one sister, Pauline Ida Bullinger of Grand Prairie; three brothers, Auline Wenzel and Hervey Wenzel both of Grand Prairie and Oran Charles Wenzel of Torrance, California.

Mr. Goerdel
Clarence A. Goerdel 74, died January 25, 2003 in a Waco Hospital. Funeral services were held Monday January 27, 2003 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Pottsville with burial following in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery with Pastor Peter K. Anderson officiating.
Mr. Goerdel was born August 5, 1928 at Indian Gap, Texas, the son of Otto and Hilda Marwitz Goerdel.
He was baptized September 9, 1928 at Priddy, Texas and confirmed November 22, 1942 at Trinity Lutheran Church at Pottsville, Texas. He served his country serving in the occupation force in Germany and he served in Korea. He was a farmer and former dairyman.
He was married to LaVerna Bubert at St. Paul Lutheran Church at Shive on October 11, 1953.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother Lemund Goerdel.
Survivors include his wife, of Pottsville; five children, John Goerdel of Colorado City, Ruth Stegemoller and her husband Tom of Pottsville, James Goerdel and his wife Lisa of Pottsville, David Goerdel of Hamilton and Maria Feist and her husband Doug of Comanche; seven grandchildren; Blake Goerdel, Jessica Goerdel, Adam Stegmoller, Taylor Goerdel, Jake Goerdel, Jordan Feist and Meghan Goerdel; one sister, Lorine Peters of Cedar Hill, Texas and two brothers Calvin Goerdel of Clifton and Auline Goerdel of Llano.

Huey W. Lord, 67, died Jan. 23 at a Temple hospital. Funeral services were held Jan. 27 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Townsend officiating. Burial was at Restland Cemetery.
Mr. Lord was born Sept. 13, 1935 in Converse, La., the son of J.D. Lord and Ruth Britton Lord-Vines.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather Bill Vines and brother Leland Lord.
Survivors include his wife Margaret Lord; daughters Vicki Thompson and husband Boyd, Lori Thompson; sons, Allen Lord and wife Nell and Joshua Lord; five granddaughters, Ashley, Brandi, Amanda, Crystal and Cheryl.

William Andrew (Bill) Stephens, 89, of Hamilton, went home to be with our Lord Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003 after a year of courageously battling his illness. A celebration of his life service was held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Riley Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Cude officiating. Internment was at the Oakwood Cemetery of Hamilton.
Bill was born Nov. 19, 1913 at Weinert, Haskell County. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Jackson Stephens. He was joined in Holy matrimony on July 10, 1938 to Winnie Pickering at Stamford.
Sharing these 64 ˝ years of life together was complimented with his service to his country in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He was a farmer and was widely known for his specialty of repairing and restoring saddles and tack. He was a member of the D.A.V. of Hamilton and the Grace Pentecostal Church of Hamilton.
Bill was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. His Savior and family were the most important aspects of his life, followed closely by his love for his donkeys. His belief in the power of prayer, faith and love were paramount in his life.
A gentle, caring man, he was always available to any need. He never met a stranger and always found the good in all and every situation. His legendary sense of humor, his love, support and creative resourcefulness will be missed. These legacies will forever live in many hearts and many old, tired saddles will ride a great while longer.
His wife, Winnie, three daughters, Sue Stephens Kunkle of Hamilton, Patsy (Stephens) and husband, Gary Fields of Hamilton and Carolyn (Stephens) and husband, Rick Nichols of Lorena survive as well as eight grandchildren, Lisa (Kunkel) Lowe of Dallas, Robi Kunkel and wife Liz of Stephenville, Natalie Kunkel and our devoted friend Nancy Lozano of Dallas, Paula (Fields) and husband Tony Benz of Arlington, Jon Fields and wife Jodi of Temple, Jae Bills and Fiancee Lacee Rasberry of Arlington, Jena (Bills) and husband Kyle Cushman of Pendleton and Justin Nichols of Lorena. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren, Leslee Lowe of Austin, Jesse and Catherine Kunkel of Stephenville, Bryan, Megan and Courtney Benz of Arlington and Bailee Fields of Temple; one sister, Lela Stephens, McClure of Tyler and one brother, J.D. (Doc) Stephens of Weatherford and a host of nieces and nephews as well as many friends.
Pallbearers were Murlin Bottlinger, Moorman Crumrine, Tom Moore, Alvin Terrell, Gary Fields, Rick Nichols, Dent Bills and grandsons, Robi Kunkel, Jon Fields, Jae Bills, Tony Benz, Kyle Cushman and Justin Nichols.
Memorials may be made to the church ministries, which were the winds beneath our wings: Grace Pentecostal Church and First Baptist Church, both of Hamilton.
