Eddie Alkek, 61, of Victoria, died Thursday, April 20, 2000.
He was born Nov. 12, 1938, in Victoria, to the late Anton and Sophie Towell Alkek. He was retired owner of Alkek Grocery Store and a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Survivors: wife, Bobbe Alkek; daughters, Amy Crain of Cuero and Joelle Carter of Port Lavaca; sisters, Jalayne Tupa and Susie Sides, both of Victoria; and two grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: parents; son, Christopher Jacob Alkek; brother, A.J. Alkek.
A rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Sunday at Holy Family Catholic Church.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. Greg Korenek officiating.
Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery. Colonial Funeral Home, Victoria, 578-3535.

HALLETTSVILLE -- The Rev. William Halata, 84, of Hallettsville, died Sunday, June 11, 2000.
He was born Jan. 12, 1916, in Swiss Alp, Texas, to the late Joseph and Aloysia Olsovsky Halata. He was a priest and served at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Schulenburg, Hostyn Catholic Church in Hostyn and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville.
Survivors: sisters, Leona Scooter of Los Angeles, Calif., and Bernice Novak of Pearland.
Preceded in death by: parents; two sisters and one brother.
Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today at Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home in Schulenburg.
A rosary will be recited 7 p.m. today at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Schulenburg.
American Legion Memorial Services will be 7:30 p.m. today at the church.

YOAKUM - Harry T. Welhausen, 85, of Yoakum, died Monday, April 17, 2000.
He was born March 9, 1915, in Yoakum, to the late Philip Sr. and Emma Etta Thornton Welhausen. He was a retired comptroller for Tex Tan Leather Company and a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors: wife, Anna Hagens Welhausen; sons, Michael W. Welhausen of Waco and Stephen P. Welhausen of Austin; brother, Philip Welhausen of Yoakum; and two grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: parents; sister, Melba Welhausen.
Services will be 7 p.m. tonight at Buffington Funeral Home Chapel, the Revs. Richard Bowden and David Hagan officiating.

Willie S. Whitby Sr.

Willie Sidney Whitby, Sr. was born to the late Willie and Eliza Orinda Smith Whitby in Goliad, Texas, on September 21, 1933.
He was reared in Goliad County. He received his education there, years later he moved to Victoria.
He united with Fannin Street Methodist Church at a young age.
Sidney served in the United States Marine Corps from 1958 to 1961 and was honorably discharged.
In the year of 1959 Sidney was united in holy matrimony to Maedell Sydney. To this union two children were born.
Sidney was a retired floor mechanic. He was a very hard laborer who always had his family at heart, whenever you met him he had a big smile and a joyful laugh.
He passed away in Audie Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, following a lengthy illness.
He leaves to cherish his memories: one son, Willie Sidney Whitby Jr.; three daughters: Tara Lynn Whitby, Novella Matthews, Dorothy Magee; four grandchildren: Aaron Lamar Whitby, Adrianna Louise Estrada, Sabastian Crimiel of Victoria, James Crimiel, Jr., Memphis, Tenn.; one great grandson, James Crimiel III, Memphis, Tenn.; one sister, Sadie Mae Hillyer, Victoria, Texas; one brother, Spencer Whitby, San Antonio, Texas; a loving cousin, Joyce Jones, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Walk in visitation will be Tuesday noon to 7:30 p.m. at Barefield Funeral Home chapel.
Services will be Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at 1 p.m. at Fannin Street Methodist Church in Goliad, Texas, the Rev. R. L. William officiating.
Graveside services under the auspices of VFW, DAV, American Legion, CWV and Marine Corps Order of the Purple Heart will be at Whitby Cemtery in Goliad, Texas. Barefield Funeral Home, Victoria, 575-6180.

Wilma F. Harrison, 73, of Victoria, died Monday, June 12, 2000.
She was born May 30, 1927, in Crain, to the late Thomas Alexander and Helen Crane Branson. She was a hairdresser at Jimmy's Beauty Salon for 35 years and a member of Telferner United Methodist Church.
Survivors: husband, James Thurman Harrison Sr.; sons, James T. Harrison Jr. and Thomas W. Harrison, both of Victoria; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: parents; two sisters; two brothers.
