Rev. James Thomas Miller, age 69 of San Antonio, died on Friday, November 29, 2002. He was born on July 26, 1933 in Decatur, TX to James and Pearl (Thomas) Miller. He attended Texas Christian University, Vanderbilt University Divinity School, University of Chicago Divinity School and Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. He was ordained at The United Methodist Church Southwest Texas Annual Conference in 1959. He taught at Oberlin College, University of Detroit, Beloit College and Reed College. He served several churches including Point Comfort/Lolita, Beeville, Martindale, Fentress, Somerset, Bracken, Telferner, Nursery, San Benito and Aldersgate UMC in San Antonio. He served as campus minister at Southwestern Texas University, and in retirement volunteered at The United Methodist Student Center, San Antonio College. He served on the Board of Higher Education and Campus Ministry. He is survived by his wife Mary Jo (Dwyer); cousins Deborah (Terry) Smith, Vickie (Rev. Steven) Purdy, Robert Fred Franklin; sisters-in-law Maureen Dortmund, Jean Hofsteadter, Pat Dwyer; and brother-in-law John Dwyer.

Robert H. Deuterman, former resident of Bemidji, MN, born September 7, 1918 in Comstock, MN, died Wednesday, October 16, 2002 in San Antonio, TX. He was a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He was veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from July 1941 to October 1945. Mr. Deuterman was employed as a Field Representative with the Social Security Administration for over 40 years until retirement in January 1981. He was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), the Elks Lodge, and the VFW. He is survived by his loving wife, Helen Deuterman with whom he celebrated his 56th wedding anniversary on Tuesday, October 15, 2002, as well as his daughter, Brenda Tallmon and husband, Morris; son, Michael Deuterman and wife, Kim; granddaughters, Lindsey Voeltz and Lauren Deuterman; grandson, Jason Deuterman, all of San Antonio; sister, Hazel Anderson; niece, Gail Brovold, both of Sauk Rapids, MN, and nephew, Bruce Anderson of Clemmons, NC.

Anne Bass Flood entered into eternal life October 16, 2002 at the age of 90. Anne was born in Russellville, Alabama on June 10, 1912 and was one of twelve children born to Tom and Mae Byars Richeson. In the 1930’s, she moved to Texas where she resided the rest of her life. In 1974, she retired as a business manager of St. Mary’s Hall after 28 years of service. Anne was active in All Saints Anglican Church, and along with her husband, Alton, was one of its founding members. She led and was devoted to serving the Altar Guild throughout her active participation in the church and made most of the altar vestments. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and enjoyed painting, reading and the fellowship of her many friends. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Alton C. Flood (1995), Robert L. Bass, Jr. (1964), and Horace Harris (1931). She is survived by her son, Robert L. Bass; stepdaughters, Barbara Flood and Catherine Ann Fleig; sister, Madeline Hunnam; brothers, Ray Richeson and Gerald Richeson; grandchildren, Laura Bass, John Bass, Donna Grubb, Russell Fleig and Cam Sharpe, eight great grandsons; numerous nieces and nephews.

Frances Anderwald Doyle, born December 10, 1922 in Bandera, TX, passed away October 15, 2002 in San Antonio. She married
Frederick Doyle on December 30, 1943. She enjoyed keeping in touch with the military families she and her husband met throughout the years. She lived most of her life in San Antonio, loved gardening and her animals. Her husband of 50 years, Lt. Col. Frederick C. Doyle (Ret.), 4 brothers and 3 sisters preceded her in death. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Major William F. McCrystal, Jr., USAF (Ret.) was born in Medford, Massachusetts, on February 18, 1924, and died in San Antonio, on October 15, 2002, after a long, agonizing illness. He bore his affliction with great courage, patience and grace. He was a highly decorated fighter pilot, the captain of the high-school track team, competing in short and long races, pole vaulting, and high jumping. Well into his old age, he still ran in the Boston Marathon. He was a gifted musician, highly extroverted, sang, and played numerous instruments, and as a teenager, had his own band. He was an English major and Russian minor in college. He was preceded in death by his lovely wife, Captain Mary Z. McCrystal (1960) and his long time love, Irene (Cha Cha) Banas (1998); his parents, Colonel and Mrs. William F. McCrystal, Sr.; and his sister, Shirley McCrystal Walsh. Survivors include his sister, Dr. Irene McCrystal of Mico, TX, who relished his company; his best friend, Gerry Szczebak of Chicopee, Massachusetts; several cousins, one nephew and one grandnephew. Au revoir, charming Billy, till we meet again.

Genevieve M. Idar, born July 12, 1922 in San Antonio, died October 14, 2002 in Dallas. Mrs. Idar worked for over 34 years as a Federal Employee with the Department of Defense as a Transportation Officer attached to the United States Air Force at Kelly Air Force Base and at The Pentagon in Washington, D.C. She had a distinguished career in government service and retired with an Exemplary Performance Award in May of 1984. She was a wonderful loving woman who will be missed by all who knew her. Her husband, Clarence Idar, and her daughter Diana M. Idar, preceded her in death. She is survived by her children, Richard C. Idar and wife Imelda of Lorton, VA, John C. Idar of Dallas, Kathy Cavanaugh and husband Ronald of Egg Harbor, NJ, and Jackie Idar of Dallas; grandchildren, Richard J. Idar of North Carolina, Jonathon A. Idar of Dallas, Jeffrey B. Irene Cruz Teneyuca went to be with the Lord on October 13, 2002. She was born in San Antonio, TX on January 5, 1925, where she lived until her move to Corpus Christi, TX in 2001. She was a graduate of Fox Tech High School, was trained in topography and worked for the US Army. She also worked for the City of San Antonio at La Villita for 14 years and the Texas Department of Human Services. She later had her own bookkeeping and tax service and utilized her artistic talents to co-manage with her sister, The Marketplace, a gallery, antique and gift shop in Castroville, TX. She loved to draw, paint, play the piano, read, and visit with family and friends. A very loving, patient, kind and generous lady, Irene extended her care to all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecilia Montez Cruz and Gonzalo Guerrero Cruz. She is survived by her brother, Richard Roy Cruz and sister-in-law, Margaret Balleza Cruz; sister, Elaine Cruz Teneyuca-Stevens and brother-in-law, William J. Stevens; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and many friends and extended family. Clinton Murchison Leake, born March 15, 1940, of San Antonio, died Monday, October 14, 2002. Mr. Leake was a member of Kappa Sigma Epsilon at UT Austin, a member of The San Antonio German Club, and The San Antonio Country Club. He was an avid golfer and tennis player. He was in the Real Estate and Insurance business for 35 years. He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles “Punky” Leake; and his parents, Charles and Dorothy Leake. Johnny Holguin age 75 of San Antonio, died on Tuesday, October 15, 2002. He served honorably in the U.S. Army with the 11th Airborne Division as a paratrooper. He was a retired Firefighter with the San Antonio Fire Department and served as District Chief of Communications. Survivors include his sons Johnny Holguin, Jr. (wife Mary), Edward Holguin (wife Cynthia), and Alex Holguin and Leo Holguin; daughters Bertha Holguin and Diana Rendon (husband Rubin); sister, Pauline Holguin all of San Antonio; 10 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.
