Jose Nieves Martinez
Funeral services for Jose Nieves Martinez, 91, of Kaufman, were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, in the Anderson Clayton Bros. Chapel with Rev. Theodore Baires officiating. Interment followed in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Anderson Clayton Bros. Of Kaufman.
Mr. Martinez was born Aug. 5, 1911, in St. Pedero De Ocampo Zacatecas, Mexico, to the late Fransisco and Enedina (Rosas) Martinez. He passed away Nov. 4, 2002, in Kaufman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Martinez, and daughters, Raquel Flores, and Nohemi Hernandez.
Survivors include his daughters, Cruz Elida Fuentes, Mara Diaz, Rebecca Ramirez all of Kaufman; sons, Pedro Martinez of Greenville, and Fransisco Martinez of Mexico; granddaughters, Raquel Cisneros, Narce Flores, Geneva Flores, Elida Morales, Raquel Baires, Leticia Martinez, Patricia Martinez, Laida Ruiz, Chaya Martinez, Hiedla Martinez, Martha Martinez, Malena Martinez, Angie Martinez, and Gracie Ramirez; grandsons, Johnny Flores Jr., Adam Fuentes, Ismail Martinez, Fransisco Martinez, Ariel Martinez, Saul Martinez, Neal Martinez, Michael Martinez, Efrain Martinez, Sergio Martinez, David Ramirez, Seth Martinez, Emeterio Ramirez, Sammie Ramirez, and Joel Ramirez; and numerous great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
Dr. WJ Wimpee
Dr. WJ Wimpee passed away on Dec. 1, 2002. Services were held at First Baptist Church of Waco on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 2 p.m.
Dr. Wimpee’s great faith led him to a lifetime of service to God, his family and Baylor University. He inspired acountless number of people around the world and was an example and friend to those who knew him.
W.J. was born Sept. 29, 1918, in Kaufman. While attending Kaufman High School, he was the quarterback of the 1934 regional championship football team. Dr. Wimpee continued his athletic career during his attendance at Baylor University from 1936 through 1940. While at Baylor, Dr. Wimpee earned six letters, (three in track and three in football). Following his graduation from Baylor in 1940, W.J. continued his education at Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth where he earned a Doctorate of Theology. While attending seminary, W.J. met his bride and companion of sixty years, Lillian Wilkins Wimpee of Rolla, Mo.
Dr. Wimpee began his professional career as pastor of First Baptist Church of Dayton, Texas, from 1943 to 1945. In August of 1945, Dr. Wimpee and his wife returned to Waco to serve as the Baptist Student Union Director. Simultaneously, Dr. Wimpee was named as the first chaplain of Baylor University serving until his retirement in 1989. Dr. Wimpee’s duties while at Baylor University extended far beyond his role of chaplain. During his tenure he served as professor of religion, Assistant to President W.R. White, liaison for retired professors, and interim pastor to churches throughout Texas.
His time at Baylor University spanned the administration of five university presidents; Governor Pat M. Neff, Dr. W. R. White, Dr. Abner McCall, Dr. Herbert H. Reynolds and Dr. Robert B. Sloan. Dr. Wimpee is most remembered by the Baylor family as a beloved theologian responsible for conducting chapel services and religion classes. Until his death, Dr. Wimpee’s love, commitment and service to Baylor University were unwavering.
Dr. Wimpee was a faithful and active member of the First Baptist Church of Waco for 50 years, where he attended and taught the Abner McCall Sunday School Class.
He is survived by his beloved wife Lillian Wilkins Wimpee. He is also survived by his three daughters Gayle West and husband Judge David West of Pasadena, Deborah Stinnett and husband Dr. Mitch Stinnett of Joplin, Mo., Dayna Schwartze and husband Dr. Mark Schwartze of Waco; sister Thelma Lee of Kaufman; ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Dr. Wimpee is preceded in death by his brothers Dr. James Wimpee of San Angelo and Reverend Robert Wimpee of Kenedy.
Pallbearers were Jeff Schwartze, Mark Schwartze, David Stinnett, Blake West, Glenn West, Michael West. The honorary pallbearers are Roy Baskin, Jim Cole, Eddie Dwyer, Dan Mayfield, Derek W. Miller, Tom Parrish, Erich W. Schwartze, Mitchell Stinnett, Grant Teaff, David West and the members of the McCall Sunday School Class.

Byrl Edward Noble
Byrl Edward Noble was born in Eastland County on April 24, 1907, to William and Minnie Johnson Noble. Byrl passed away at his home in Scurry on Dec. 5, 2002.
Byrl was raised in Galluup, N.M., and moved to the Scurry and Warsaw communities in 1932.
In December of 1934 Byrl married
Ila Mae Evans. Byrl worked for LTV for 23 years and retired in 1972. He farmed and ranched for many years in the Scurry and Warsaw communities and was a member of the Scurry Church of Christ for over 46 years.
Byrl was preceded in death by his wife Ila Mae in February of 1991 and a son, Clyde Robert Noble.
He is survived by his sons,William Sherman Noble of Orlando, Fla. and Wade Noble of Crandall; daughters, Callie Wampler of Scurry and Molly Jackson of Warsaw; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at Scurry Church of Christ with Dan Baum officiating. Interment followed in Mount Olive cemetery in Scurry.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home of Kaufman.
Jackie Green Arbanas
Jackie Green Arbanas was born Dec. 24, 1945, in Plainview, Texas, to Jack and Mattie Johnson Green. She passed away on August 22, 2002, at her home in Crandall.
Jackie was raised in Mesquite and Dallas and lived in Mesquite most of her life. She moved to Crandall to live with her son in 2001.
Jackie is survived by her son, John Arbanas of Crandall; daughter, Dawnda Cline of Mesquite; brothers, Ronny, Bruce Wayne, Dennis, Randy and Langley; sister, Rhonda; grandchildren, Stephanie and Dakota Davidson; and other relatives.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, August 27, 2002, at 2 p.m. at the Parker-Ashworth Chapel with Rev. Denny Mackey officiating. Memorial services were under the direction of Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home of Kaufman. .
Paul Douglas Chandler
Funeral Services for Paul Douglas Chandler, 54, of Mesquite, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002, at Hiett’s Lybrand Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Ballard officiating. Interment followed at Brigham cemetery in Campbell, Texas. Paul passed away Sunday, Aug. 25, at his home in Mesquite.
Paul was born Feb. 29, 1948, in Cooper, Texas. Son of the late Paul and Ruby Katherine Reeves. He was raised in the Mesquite area where he attended public school. Paul later married
Mary Gibbons on Jan. 18, 1975, in Mesquite, and continued to live in Mesquite where they enjoyed a lifetime of memories. He worked in the drilling industry, serving 30 years, beginning with Gardner-Denver, Tamrock and Ingersoll-Rand. Paul fought a very short battle with cancer and was a strong believer in his Christian faith.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Ruby Katherine Chandler.
Paul is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Mary Chandler of Mesquite; daughter, Mandy Moore and husband Tim of Scurry; brother, Charles High and his wife Dorothy, of Campbell; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Beverly Gibbons of Edgewood, and Bobby and Dee Gibbons of Huntsville; father and mother-in-law, Charles and Madge Gibbons of Mesquite; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers were Greg Gibbons, Ben Gibbons, Chris Gibbons, Tommy Moore, Kenneth Moore Jr. and Chris Cox.
Roy Jesse “Dicky” Chappell IV
Roy Jesse “Dicky” Chappell IV, born Nov. 25, 1947, to Helen and Roy Chappell in Tyler, died Aug. 20, 2002, in Kingwood, Texas, at the age of 54.
Dicky attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Okla. He married
Barbara McFarland in 1969, forging a beautiful, lifetime marriage of 33 years. Dicky loved God and life in all its abundance.
He was totally devoted to his family and was called “Father of a Lifetime” by his daughter, Andrea, and also “Poppy” especially by his grandson, Tyler.
As one of four founder/owners of Houston Wire and Cable Company and then owner/operator of C.E. Sales, he was the kind of man who always recognized the accomplishments of others first.
Mr. Chappell is preceded in death by his brother, Roy J. Chappell III, and sister-in-law, Gayla Chappell.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter, Andrea Felt, her husband Bradley and their son Tyler, of Kingwood; son, Roy Jessie “Jay” Chappell V, of Austin; parents, Helen and Roy Chappell, of Kaufman; sisters, Carol Chappell of San Lorenzo, Calif., Nancy Green and her husband Steve of Spring, and Janis Hales and her husband Alan of Houston; brothers, Garfield Chappell of Cleveland, Texas, Ben Chappell and his wife JoAnn of San Antonio; sister-in-law Linda Irby and her husband Dick of Fort Worth; nieces, Jenny, Jesse, Shala, Jill and Ellen; nephews, Aaron, Chris, Ryan, Travis, Dee, Bryan and Derek.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, in the Chapel of Kingwood Funeral Home.

Arleta Sue Rains
Arleta Sue Rains was born in Amber, Okla., on Sept. 6, 1941, to Harvey and Georgia Thayer Parrish. She passed away at her home in Kaufman on Aug. 24, 2002.
Arleta Sue was raised mostly in Nicoma Park, Okla., and she graduated from Central State University in Okla. Arleta Sue taught public school in Oklahoma, Texas and Alaska.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. On August 29, 1981, Arleta Sue married
Charles Rains in Shawnee, Okla.
Arleta Sue was preceded in death by her sister, Zelma Ann Parrish in 1994. She is survived by her husband, Charles Rains of Kaufman; parents, Harvey and Georgia Parrish of McCloud, Okla.; sons, Alex Capron of Prague, Okla., Patrick Rains of Colorado Springs, and Eric Capron of Prague, Okla.; daughter, Peggy Rains of Manford, Okla., and Bari Trost of Rigby, Idaho; brother, Harvey T. Parrish of Oklahoma City; sisters, Georgia Lee Williamson of Bengal, Okla., and Debbie Rothrock of Choctaw, Okla.; 12 grandchildren and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at the Parker-Ashworth Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, at Prague cemetery in Prague, Okla. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home of Kaufman.
C. D. Huddle
C. D. Huddle of Scurry passed away June 7, 2002, in a Kaufman hospital. He was born in Ben Wheeler, on Feb. 9, 1925, to Clayton and Camey Sanders Huddle.
C. D. was raised in Dallas and joined the US Army in 1943 during WWII. He worked for Proctor and Gamble for 42 years and retired in 1980. He moved to Scurry in 1965 and was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church of Scurry. His wife Mavis June Ferguson, preceded him in death on April 15, 1991.
C. D. is survived by his sons, Terry Huddle and wife Vickie, of Scurry, and Rusty Huddle of Scurry; grandchildren, Chris, Rusty, Stephanie, Chance and Taylor; and a sister.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Mount Olive cemetery in Scurry with Rev. Nolan Richey officiating. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home of Kaufman. .
Ellner Rae Alsup
Ellner Rae Alsup passed away at her home on June 9, 2002. Ellner was born in Milford, Texas, on Aug. 12, 1940, to Robert and Beatrice Bigham. She was raised in Waco and moved to Kaufman in 1978.
Ellner is survived by her husband, Jimmy Alsup Sr. of Kaufman; son, Jimmy Alsup Jr. of Kaufman; brothers, Billy Bigham of Waco, and Johnny Bigham of China Springs; sister, Doris Boatman of Waco; grandchildren, Kathy, Angela, Tammy, Stephanie and Jerry Jr.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at 2 p.m. at the Parker-Ashworth Chapel with Rev. James M. Smith, Rev. Billy Harris and Rev. Todd Peavy officiating. Interment was in Radar cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home of Kaufman.
