Joyce McPherson Sharp
Joyce McPherson Sharp, of Scurry, was born Oct. 16, 1934, in South Bend, Texas, to Nathan and Verna Leonie Montgomery McPherson. She passed away Dec. 24, 2002, at the age of 68.
Joyce had been a member of Mt. Olive Church since 1958. She was active in politics and served as an election judge for over 35 years. She worked for Sears Roebuck and Co. for numerous years. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Billy T. Sharp, and brothers, Perry Daniel and Harold Ray McPherson.
She is survived by her son Mike Sharp and his wife Paula of Scurry; grandson, Toby Michael Sharp and wife Dana of Scurry; granddaughter, Amy Rena of Scurry; great granddaughter, Cady Gail Sharp of Scurry; mother, Verna McPherson of Scurry; sisters, Norma Legg and husband Tommy of Kaufman and Sible Glenn and husband Billy Frank of Coppell; extended family, Frank and Danna McCall, Christina McCall and Bobby McCall; and a host of niece, nephews, and other relatives.
Pall Bearers were Denny McWhorter, Talmage Richman, Bro. Denny Mackey, Sammy LaCour, Robert Flair and Larry Ewing. Honorary Pall Bearers were Jack Smith, Bro. Joe Rosenquist and Mt. Olive Church Deacons.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Scurry with Bro. Nolan Richey and Bro. Garris Baggett officiating. Interment followed in Mt. Olive cemetery in Scurry.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home of Canton.

Lillie Bell Wheat
Lillie Bell Wheat was born in Grapevine, Texas, on Feb. 21, 1912, to William and Georgia Carrell Biggers. Lillie passed away in Kaufman on Dec. 25, 2002. She was raised in Grapevine and Irving and lived most of her life in Irving. Lillie moved to Kaufman in 2000.
She was a charter member of the First Assembly of God Church in Irving. On Sept. 25, 1937, she married Orville Wheat in Dallas. Orville preceded her in death on July 21, 1975.
Lillie is survived by her sons, J. W. Hudson of North Richland Hills and Orville Wheat of Crandall; daughter, Barbara Biven of Kaufman; 12 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday Dec. 28, 2002, at the First Assembly of God Church Kaufman with Rev. D. G. Council and Rev. Gloyd Robinson officiating. Interment followed in Crown Hill Memorial Park in Dallas.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Don Hudson, Rocky Hudson, Ronnie Biven, Gregg Newton, Lance Yager and Jasen Newton. Honorary pallbearers were Kevin Newman, Jonathan Biven and Beau Hudson.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home of Kaufman.

Abbie Ray Thompson
Abbie Ray Thompson passed away Nov. 17, 2002. Abbie was born in Dallas on Feb. 24, 1977, to Barry Dale and Sharon Gail Hussong Thompson.
She was raised in Kaufman and graduated with honors from Kaufman High School in 1995. She was a member of the Lady Lion Volleyball, Softball and Basketball teams.
Abbie graduated Magna Cum Laude from Tyler Junior College in 1998 receiving a degree in Radiology Technology. She worked for the Medical Center of Terrell and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kaufman. Abbie was preceded in death by her brother, Cory Adam Thompson on Dec. 31, 1998, grandparents, Odie and Ray Hussong and her uncle, Joe Dale McKnight.
Abbie is survived by her parents, Sharon and Barry Thompson of Kaufman; grandparents, Vernon and Kelcie Thompson of Mabank; aunts, Mary McKnight, Betty Hussong and Janet Hussong; uncle, George Hussong; cousins, David Hussong, Kelly McKnight and Kyle McKnight.
Abbie will be forever remembered as a loving sister, precious daughter and devoted friend.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church Kaufman with Rev. Brent Gentzel officiating. Interment followed in Wilson Chapel cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home of Kaufman. .

Nellie Daphne Dorough
Nellie Daphne Dorough of Mabank passed away Monday, Nov. 11, 2002. She was born Nov. 1, 1915, in Kemp.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13, at Eubank Memorial Chapel in Mabank with Rev. Mickey Loftis officiating. Interment followed in Kemp cemetery.
Mrs. Dorough was a member of the Mabank Order of Eastern Star 821 and a past member of the Mabank Fire Department Ladies Auxillary.
She was preceded in death by husband Wilkins Williamson, husband R.L. Willett, 2 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
Mrs. Dorough is survived by husband Temple Dorough of Mabank; daughters, Anita Nell Holt of Mabank, Peggy Joan Holt of Canton and Marilyn Dee Mixon of Hutchins; step-daughters, Jean Myrick of Mabank and Susan Shaw of Kaufman; sons, Robert Willett of Seagoville and James Williamson of Hutchins; step-sons, Billy Jack Dorough of Kaufman, Donald Wayne Dorough of Kerens, David William Dorough of Kaufman, Bobby Jerrell Dorough of Scurry and Kenneth Wren Dorough of Ennis; 29 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Dewayne Holt, Keith Holt, Russell Mixon, Ricky Myrick, Jim Bob Willet and Jim Williamson.
Funeral services for Dorough were under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home in Mabank.

Frances Miklis Havlik
Mass of Christian Burial services for Frances Miklis Havlik, 91, were held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, in the St. Ann Catholic Church with Father Joseph Mehan officiating. Recitation of the Rosary took place 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 2, in the Anderson Clayton Bros. Chapel. Interment followed Mass in the Kaufman cemetery under the direction of Anderson Clayton Bros. of Kaufman.
Mrs. Havlik was born Sept. 14, 1910, in Ennis, to the late John and Frances (Valek) Miklis and passed away Aug. 30, 2002, in Kaufman. She was a member of the St. Ann Catholic Church and a member of the Altar Society. She was a homemaker most of her life and worked in nursing homes in the 1960s as a dietician and will be remembered for her good cooking.
Survivors include her sisters, Agnes Trojacek of Kaufman, Millie Slovacek of Cedar Creek Lake, Louise Marek of Kaufman, and Hattie de Vlaming of Kaufman; brothers, Joe Miklis of Kaufman, and Johnnie Miklis of Kaufman; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Pallbearers were George Miklis, Robert Slovacek, David Marek, Steve Miklis, Joe Miklis, and Louis Maliska.

Tracy Beall Medders
Gathering of remembrance services for Tracy Beall Medders, age 86, of Kaufman, were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9, 2002, at the Anderson Clayton Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Kaufman with Rev. Brent Gentzel officiating. Interment followed in the Kaufman cemetery under the direction of Anderson Clayton Brothers Funeral Home of Kaufman.
Tracy Beall Medders was born Sept. 30, 1915, in Mart, Texas, a son of the late Charlie and Jertie Medders, and passed away on Sept. 5, 2002, in Kaufman. He had lived in Kaufman for the past 22 years and was an employee of Shell Oil Company as a crude oil representative for 35 years. He married Thelma Mae Daniel on May 11, 1941, in Jasper, Texas. Together, they were members of the First Baptist Church of Kaufman for 22 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in WWII.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma Mae Medders of Kaufman; son, David Medders and his wife Frannie of Laramie, Wy.; granddaughter, Carrie Medders of San Jose, Calif.; as well as numerous other friends and relatives.

Harold C. Ewing
Funeral services for Harold C. Ewing, 87, of Crandall were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, in the Anderson Clayton Bros. Chapel with Rev. Joe Rosenquist officiating. Interment followed in the Crandall cemetery under the direction of Anderson Clayton Bros. of Kaufman.
Mr. Ewing was born April 12, 1915, in Scurry to the late Quincy Clyde and Lela (Kell) Ewing and passed away Sept. 8, 2002, in Kaufman. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Crandall and retired from Service Equipment of Austin Bridge Company. He was a former Lions Club member and former Fire Chief in Crandall. He was preceded in death by his son Robert Ewing, first wife Mildred Ewing, second wife Tommie Ewing, and step son Weldon Smith.
Survivors include his wife Estelle Ewing of Crandall; daughter, Glenda Tate and her husband Bob of Kemp; son, Harold Dean Ewing of Center, Ala.; 8 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; brother, Kell Ewing of Scurry; sisters, Agnes Hardin of Kaufman, Nett Cave of Pleasant Grove, Nina McCurry of Kaufman, and Pauline Estep of Crandall; step children, Pat Mathis, Ronny Nelson, Walter Smith, Ronnie Smith, and Dee Carrier; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Zenola Elimira Lagow
Funeral services for Zenola Elimira Lagow, of Owasso, Okla., were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, in the Anderson Clayton Bros. Chapel. Interment followed in the Kaufman cemetery under the direction of Anderson Clayton Bros. of Kaufman.
Mrs. Lagow was born April 30, 1917, in Kaufman to the late John Frank and Edna May (Massingale) Thompson and passed away Sept. 8, 2002. in Owasso, Okla. Her husband Robert Samuel Lagow preceded her in death.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Stephanie Lagow of Southlake; daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Bill McGuire of Tulsa, Okla.; 3 grandchildren, Glen Walter McGuire, Drew Lagow, and Laci Lagow; 3 brothers, Vernon Thompson of Mabank, Guy Shaw Thompson of Arlington, and Delphine Thompson of Dallas; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Charline Warren
Funeral services for Charline Warren, 79, of Kaufman, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, in the Anderson Clayton Bros. Chapel with Rev. Ron Trosper officiating. Interment followed in the Morrow Chapel cemetery under the direction of Anderson Clayton Bros. of Kaufman.
Mrs. Warren was born Oct. 8, 1923, in Dallas to the late Charles Victor and Della (Petty) Story and passed away Nov. 3, 2002, in Dallas. She was preceded in death by her husband Avard C. Warren and great grandchild, Holly Frances Warren.
Mrs. Warren taught Sunday school for more than 50 years and was a member of the Red Oak Baptist Church.
Survivors include her sons, David Warren and wife Virginia of Kaufman, Bruce Warren of Kaufman, Brian Warren and wife Susan of Farmers Branch, and Mark Warren and wife Carleen of Kaufman; grandchildren, Wendy Pate, Candy Julia, Lindsey Warren all of Kaufman, Jacob Katy, Patrick Warren all of Farmers Branch, and Dawn and Mitchell Warren of Scurry; and great grandson Marshall Pate of Kaufman.

Arthur William Cotton
Funeral services for Arthur William Cotton, 92, of Kaufman, were held 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at First United Methodist Church Kaufman with Rev. John Gondol officiating. Interment followed in Lone Oak cemetery in the Becker Community under the direction of Anderson Clayton Bros. of Kaufman.
Mr. Cotton was born Feb. 25, 1910, to the late Ed and Lula Pennington Cotton in the Becker-Lone Oak Community in Kaufman County. He passed away Nov. 4, 2002, in Kaufman. He married Jewel Lynch on Dec. 21, 1929. They were married for 65 years prior to her passing. Arthur farmed until 1947 when he went to work for Ford Motor Company, where he worked for 24 years before retiring in 1971. His grandfather, Weaver Cotton, was one of the original settlers of southeast Kaufman County. He was preceded in death by his wife; brother, Ralph Cotton; and sister, Ruth Cotton Kerr.
Survivors include his daughter, Ann Harris and her husband Richard of Oak Grove; son, Rev. William Cotton and his wife Lillian of Des Moines, Iowa; son, Charles Cotton of Oak Grove; grandchildren, Dr. Keith Harris, Mark Harris, Melody Cotton Bruns, Leslie Cotton Baxter, and Steve Cotton; 12 great grandchildren, Bryan, Richard, William Nikki, and Christina Harris; Christopher, Jacob, Kaitlyn Bruns, Brooke, Kayla, and Marrissa Baxter; and Allison Cotton; sister, Mary Ann Cotton Hannon; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to First United Methodist Church of Kaufman or of Becker, or to the charity of your choice.
