Nelle Dunaway Grogan
Nelle Dunaway Grogan, 96, of Amarillo, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001.
Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, in Dreamland cemetery at Canyon with Richard Kasko of Fritch Church of Christ officiating. Arrangements were by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd., Amarillo.
Mrs. Grogan was born in Carlsbad, New Mexico Territory on Dec. 29, 1904 to John F. Dunaway and Mattie Hays Dunaway. The family moved to Canyon in 1910.
She had been a resident of Amarillo since her marriage to George B. Grogan on June 18, 1934. She will be remembered for her cheerfulness, kindness to others and consistent good humor and smiles lasting almost a century.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a brother; and five sisters.
Survivors include a son, Gary L. Grogan of Fritch; a daughter, Beverly G. Dampf of Amarillo; a sister, Mary Frances “Faffie” Irwin, a longtime resident of Amarillo, now Georgetown; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be in expressions of love, prayers and encouragement for others.
Vestal Lorene Arnold
Vestal Lorene Arnold was born in Kaufman on April 17, 1911, to Wyatt and Arvie Gray Stanfield. She passed away in a Dallas hospital on Nov. 26, 2001. Lorene was raised in Dallas and Kaufman and had lived in Kaufman for 28 years. She married
Cecil Arnold on June 24, 1934, in Crockett, Texas, and he passed away on Aug. 3, 1979. Lorene was a member of the Wilson Chapel Methodist Church and the Kaufman Eastern Star.
She is survived by her sons: Don Arnold of Rockwall and Richard Arnold of Payne Springs; daughter: Shirley Nixon of Kaufman; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at 10 a.m. at Parker-Ashworth Chapel with Rev. Lew Stokes officiating and interment following at Laurel Land cemetery in Dallas. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home of Kaufman.
George Benton Carlisle
George Benton Carlisle, life long resident of Kaufman, passed away at Presbyterian Hospital in Kaufman on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001. Mr. Carlisle was a member of the United Methodist Church of Kaufman for many years and a veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife Edna Lees Carlisle; daughter, Penny Houston and husband Ron; sons, Kyle Carlisle and wife Jari, and Jeff Carlisle; grandchildren, Jennifer Carlisle, Tory Houston, Dana Houston, and Katy Carlisle; great grandchild, Joanas Carlisle; sisters, Mammie Lee Seabolt, Nell Burd and brother, Pat Carlisle and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Grave side services were held Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at the Kaufman cemetery with Rev. John Gondol officiating. Interment followed under the direction of Anderson Clayton Brothers of Kaufman.
Delorise Marie Cox
Funeral services for Delorise Marie Cox were held Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at 2:00 p.m. at Thomas Memorial Chapel with Chaplin Richard Moore officiating. Interment in Kaufman cemetery. Delorise Marie Cox was born March 24, 1943, in Arkansas to the late Claude Marlon Ray and Rosa Belle Baker Ray. She departed this life Nov. 12, 2001, in Dallas following a battle with cancer.
Mrs. Cox was a self-employed paint contractor.
Those left to cherish her memories include her husband Thomas E. Cox, Seagoville, Texas; sons, Timothy W. Kerbo and wife Nikki, Kaufman, Brian E. Foster and wife Karen, Garland; daughters, Kimberly K. Everett and husband Jeff, Dallas, Lisa M. Grose and husband Kevin, Arlington, and D. Michele McGill and husband Jerry, Garland; seven grandchildren and other relatives.

K. Milligan
K. Milligan passed away on Nov. 6, 2001. He was born in Hartshorne, Okla. on Sept. 11, 1908, to Cleo Milligan and Frances Martin Milligan. He was a World War II veteran and was awarded the Purple Heart for service. He retired from the City of San Diego. He is survived by his children Pat, Nancy, Maureen and Chuck. Mr. Milligan had ten grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Clara Glenn Milligan, in 1994. “A fine old man with a host of lovable qualities.”
Jimmy Shields
Jimmy Shields of Terrell passed away on Nov. 20, 2001 at his residence. He was born on August 31, 1930, to the late Walter Rawleigh and Cora Mae Jenkins Shields in Wieland, Texas. Jimmy was Baptist by faith. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict. Jimmy owned and operated Shields Provision Company and retired from Columbia Packing Company. Jimmy was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Joshua Blair Rand; brother, Lawerence Shields and sister, Ruth Swallow. Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Jane Shields of Terrell; sons, David Shields and his wife Dorothea of Garland, Craig Shields of Terrell, Jeff Shields and his wife Melanie of Quinlan; daughter, Michele Rand and her husband Richard of Kaufman; 17 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; brothers, W.C. Shields, Boyd Shields and W.R. Shields Jr.; sisters, Faye Singleton and Florence Dees; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001 at Anderson-Clayton Bros. Chapel with Rev. Brad Howard and Rev. Todd Peavy officiating. Interment was held at Highland Memorial Gardens. Ruby Pearl Smith
Funeral Services for Ruby Pearl Smith of Ola, Texas, were held at 2 p.m. Friday, November 23, 2001, at the Kaufman Church of Christ with Mr. Terry Thompson officiating. Interment followed in the Morrow Chapel in Ola under the direction of Anderson Clayton Brothers Funeral Home of Kaufman.
Ruby Smith was born on March 23, 1926, in Sheridan, Wy. the daughter of the late Raymond and Thelma Sollars Boggs and passed away on Nov. 20, 2001, in Kemp, Texas. She had lived in the Ola area for the past 20 years and was a member of the Kaufman Church of Christ. She was married
to Eugene Smith on November 16, 1943, in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Survivors include her husband Eugene Smith of Ola; sons, Eugene M. Smith Jr. of Edmond, Okla., Charles Smith of Covington, Tenn. and Russell Smith of Arlington, Texas; 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; sisters, Verna Mae Phillips, Coy Cummings and Ellen Lollar as well as a brother, Buddy Boggs and numerous other friends and relatives.
Lillie Brunson
Lillie Brunson, 80, of Terrell passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2002, in Terrell. She was born May 19, 1921, in Ennis to Paul and Sophia Supak Luksa.
Mrs. Brunson grew up in Ennis and Kaufman and lived most of her life in Kaufman. She was occupied as a factory worker for paper products. She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas James Brunson.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Rodney Koenig, of Elkton, S.D.; step-daughter, Diane Cornett, of Waco; sisters, Sophia Riznicek, of Kaufman, Mary Prikryl, of Dallas and Olga Erickson, of Smithville, Texas.
Graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 24, at Oaklawn cemetery in Mabank with the Rev. Joseph Mehan officiating. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home, Canton.
Norma Jean Clements
Norma Jean Clements, of Scurry, and a native of Centerville, Tenn., was born May 16, 1941, and passed away March 21, 2002
She is survived by husband, Bill Clements, of Scurry; mother, Flora King, of Centerville,Tenn.; children, Robert Clements of Scurry, Connie McCormack, of Dallas, Sheila Mack, of Kaufman & Pat Kennedy, of Crandall; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Bobbie Weathers, of Detroit, Mich., Carolyn Haskins, of Centerville, Tenn., Larry King, of Seagoville, Richard King, of Seagoville, Robert King, of Centerville, Tenn., Teresa Carrol, of Hornewall and Kevin King, of Seagoville; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Services were at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2002 at Roselawn Chapel. Interment followed at Roselawn Memorial Park.
Stephanie Rand Gordon
Stephanie Rand Gordon, a Terrell resident, passed away in Dallas on March 17, at age 18. She was born in Dallas on Oct. 19, 1983.
Preceding her in death are her brother Joshua Blair Rand and grandfather Jimmy Shields.
Surviving Stephanie are her husband, Jason Gordon, of Terrell; 11 month old son, Braydon David Lee Gordon; parents, Regina Davis, of Wills Point, Richard and Michele Rand, of Kaufman; 3 brothers, C.J. Rand, Keifer and Sky Davis; sister, Carlee Rand; grandparents, Patti and Steve Hilborn, of Terrell, and Betty Slaughter of Bastrop, La.; mother and father-in-law, Nancy and David Gordon, of Terrell; and godmother, Gayelynn Woolverton, of Terrell.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2002 at the Cottage Heights Baptist Church in Kaufman with the Rev. Lonnie Harris and Todd Peavy officiating. Interment followed at Fox cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Stephanie Rand Gordon fund at the American national Bank.

Joe Allen Hardin
Joe Allen Hardin was born in Kaufman County, Texas on Dec. 25, 1922 to Ross and Willie Hardin. He passed away on March 19, 2002, in Ardmore, Okla.
He lived in Kaufman County and the Scurry area all of his life before moving to Ardmore in 1969. He moved from Ardmore to Waxahachie in 1985 and remained there until Sept. 2001, when he returned to Ardmore.
Joe was a veteran of the United States Army-Air Force, serving in World War II. He was stationed in England and flew many missions over Germany. He served as Navigator for the crew and also as bombadier on some missions. He married
Frances Elizabeth Wyatt on Sept. 2, 1942, in Scurry.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Hardin; his father, Ross Hardin and his mother, Willie Hardin Werner; stepfather, W. D. Werner; brothers, Roy Lee Hardin and James Hardin; stepbrothers, Otis Werner, Elmer Werner, Ernest Werner and Herman Werner.
Joe is survived by his daughter:, Betty Jo Thomason, and her husband Don Ray Thomason of Ardmore, Okla.; grandsons, Eric Thomason and Nathan Thomason of Ardmore, Okla.; brothers, Vernon Hardin and wife, Lottie, of Kaufman, and Gene Hardin of Waco; sister, Polly Evans, of Kaufman; stepsister, Mae Bush of Jacksonville; and other relatives.
Funeral services were held Sat. March 23, 2002 at 1:00 P.M. the Parker-Ashworth Chapel and interment was in Mt. Olive cemetery in Scurry, TX. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home of Kaufman.
