Sandra Langley Swink
Sandra Langley Swink, 40, died Sunday, August 6, 2000, in El Reno, OK.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 10 at Westlawn Memorial Park cemetery.
Mrs. Swink was born Feb. 15, 1960, in Amarillo. She was a homemaker and a former resident of Borger. She was a Baptist.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Stephanie.
Survivors include her husband, Mick Swink of Dill City, OK; one son, Shannon; three daughters, Jamie, Desirea and Cassandra; her mother and father, Hershel and Patsy Langley of Fritch; two sisters, Brenda Ross and Shauna Langley; four brothers, Bruce Langley, Steve Langley, Bradley Langley and William Langley.
Clyde W. Layton
Clyde W. Layton, 83, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001.
Services were at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12 in Minton/ Chatwell Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Ridling and the Rev. Buck Lawley officiating. Burial was in the Garden of Serenity in Westlawn Memorial Park.
Mr. Layton was born in Atoka, Okla. He moved to Borger in 1952 from Clovis, N.M. He was a retired boilermaker and welder from Payton Machine Co.
He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church, the 10-4 Club, and the Elks Lodge.
Mr. Layton was married
to Fannie Wilkerson in 1941 in Murfreesboro, Ark.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Norma Wise of Borger and Virginia Gariepy of Sanford; three brothers, Kenneth Layton and Louis Layton, both of Strangtown, Okla., and Jack Layton of Caddo, Okla.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
William Lee Hamilton
William Lee “Bill” Hamilton, 60, died Monday, March 26, 2001, in Amarillo.
Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 29 in Westlawn Memorial Park with Richard Kasko, minister of Fritch Church of Christ, officiating. Arrangements were by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Fritch.
Mr. Hamilton was born in Borger and was a lifetime area resident and had lived in Fritch for the past 30 years. He served in the U.S. Navy Reserves, was in construction, and was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by a son, Billy Wayne Hamilton, in 1963, and a brother, Robert Wayne Hamilton.
Survivors include a daughter, Leigh Anna Meyer of Fritch; one sister, Paula Alred of Lubbock; and two grandchildren, Tye Meyer and Trista Meyer of Fritch.
Madie Jewel Caddell
Madie Jewel Caddell, 84, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, in Baptist St. Anthony’s Hospital.
Services were at 2 p.m. Friday, March 30, in Brown Funeral Directors, Chapel of the Fountains, of Borger, with Dr. James Tollett officiating. Burial was in Westlawn cemetery under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Caddell was born on Feb. 7, 1917, and was a native of Dyersburg, Tenn. She was an area resident for twenty years and a homemaker. She was a Pentecostal.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cleveland Caddell in 1980, four sisters, and two brothers.
Survivors include two daughters, Gay Herring and Joyce Wells, both of Amarillo; three sisters, Marie Ray of Borger, Lara Mae Crow of Fritch and Dorothy Enterline of Perryton; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Nola Mae McClellan
Nola Mae McClellan, 88, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, in Golden Plains Community Hospital.
Services were at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 31 in First United Pentecostal Church at 1200 Madison St., in Borger, with the Rev. Dale Brown officiating. Burial was in Westlawn cemetery by Brown Funeral Directors.
Mrs. McClellan was born June 18, 1912, and was a native of Whitney. She had been a Borger resident for 56 years.
She was a homemaker and a member of First United Pentecostal Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cleburn, in April 1970 and two sons, Herman McClellan in 1946 and Junior McClellan in 1979.
Survivors include four sons, Ab McClellan of Borger, Johnny McClellan of Fritch, Milam McClellan of Morrow, Ga., and Wade McClellan of El Paso; one daughter, Dorsey Eakin of Stinnett; two brothers, Frank “Bud” Wood of Amarillo and Glenn Wood of Littleton, Colo.; two sisters, Lorene Cleere of Amarillo and Thelma Buck of Odessa; eighteen grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Dorothy P. Saine
Dorothy P. Saine, 75, of Fritch, died Sunday, April 1, 2001, in Golden Plains Community Hospital in Borger.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, at Sunset Memorial cemetery in Stinnett with Rev. John Denton officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Brown Funeral Directors of Borger.
Mrs. Saine was born on June 22, 1925, and was a native of Ruthdale, OK. She was a Phillips resident from 1946 to 1984. She was a member of Central Baptist Church and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don L. Saine on Nov. 13, 1998, and a daughter, Donna Gail in 1973, and a sister, Ada Hicks in Jan. 2001.
Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Thompson of Borger; two brothers, Chester Hayes of Borger and Leo Hayes of Eufala, OK; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Calvin “C.L.” Stovall
Calvin “C.L.” Stovall, 81, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001.
Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, in Parkside Chapel with the Rev. Randy Bird and the Rev. Ted Taylor officiating. Burial was in West Park cemetery by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home.
Mr. Stovall was born Aug. 2, 1920, at Bethel, Okla., the son of Rob and Eunice Stovall. He married
Viola Holmes on July 18, 1942, at Clebit, Okla. He had lived in Hereford since 1960 where he was a self-employed landscaper. He was an avid deer hunter, loved gardening, attended Hereford Church of the Nazarene and the Barn Church of Hereford.
He was preceded in death by a son, a brother and a sister.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Melvin Stovall of Fritch and Wayne Stovall of Amarillo; two daughters, Elaine Parker of New Caney and Darlene Stovall of Hereford; two sisters, Alta Kemp of Broken Bow, Okla., and Audrey Moore of Bethel; thirteen grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Raul Betancourt
Raul Betancourt, 69, of Amarillo, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001.
Mass was at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Rev. John Hickey officiating. Burial was in Llano cemetery by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St.
Mr. Betancourt was born and raised in Kingsville. He worked as a cowboy at Kings Ranch until he moved to Amarillo in 1965. After moving to Amarillo, he worked for the city of Amarillo as a paver and for the Amarillo Independent School District.
Survivors include an ex-wife, Maria A. Betancourt; two daughters, Maria G. Murguia and Susana Sanchez, both of Amarillo; five sons, Raul Betancourt Jr. of San Antonio, and Manuel Betancourt, Juan Betancourt, Daniel Betancourt and David Betancourt, all of Amarillo; three sisters, Maria DeLeon of Houston, Consuelo Alanis of Fritch and Margarita Alvarez of Arlington; a brother, Pablo Betancourt of Houston; 30 grandchildren, and nineteen great-grandchildren.
Merle H. Blakely
Merle H. Blakely, 72, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, in Amarillo.
Services were at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, in Bunavista Baptist Church with the Rev. David Langen officiating. Burial was in Westlawn Memorial Park by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors.
Mr. Blakely was a veteran of the Army, serving in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Bunavista Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Merle Gene Blakely of Borger and Gary Blakely of Fritch; a daughter, Trinette Scott of Leander; a brother, Howard Blakely of Oklahoma City, two sisters, Florine Blakemore of McKinney and Mozzelle Biggers of Madill, Okla.; and twelve grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to Bunavista Baptist Church or Baptist St. Anthony’s Hospice of Amarillo.
