Mazaline Rummelhart
Mazaline Rummelhart of Kaufman was born October 22, 1933, in Athens, Texas, and passed away July 20, 2003.
She is survived by son Russell Slayton; daughter Cindy Wood and her husband Terry; grandchildren Tahlina Fox, Cory Slayton and Chad Slayton; great-grandchildren, Samuel Ray Fox and Nolan J. Sims; brothers Earnest and Loyce; sisters Wanda and Joyce; sister-in-law Wanda Pearl and a host of other loving family and friends.
Mazaline was preceded in death by husband Lester Rummelhart.
Services are at 10 a.m. July 24 at Roselawn Chapel with interment following at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation was 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at funeral chapel.
Danny Eugene Wood
Danny Eugene Wood was born to Raymond and Susan Virginia Coltharp Wood in Kaufman County, Texas, on Dec. 6, 1935, and passed away at his home near Terrell on April 6, 2003.
He was retired with 28 years service from the Garland Fire Department. Danny was a proud member of the 1952 Terrell State Championship football team and had very fond memories of being a part of the team. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman, and all of the firefighters he served with remember his good cooking.
Danny was preceded in death by his daughter, Laura Kay Gosser, and is survived by his wife, Lucina Barassa Wood; three sons, Dan Wood Jr., Jody C. Wood and Marlon Monge; two daughters, Nancy Ann Wood and Indira Monge; one granddaughter, Jennifer Wood; one brother, Bruce Wood, all of Terrell; and other relatives and friends.
Arrangements are under the direction of Goggans Funeral Home of Terrell, and the Wood family received friends for visitation from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, April 7, 2003, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Leon Vineyard Scholarship Fund, c/o Terrell ISD, 212 W. High Street, Terrell, Texas 75160.
Betty Screws
Betty Screws, 53, of Bogata passed away on April 1, 2003, in Clarksville. She was born on June 13, 1949, to Kennith and Audrey Ballard Gandy in New Orleans.
A member of the Church of Christ, Betty was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother. She bragged often about her children and granddaughter and enjoyed attending their activities, from sports to beauty pageants. She never met a stranger.
Funeral services were held on Friday, April 4, 2003, with Reverend D.G. Council and Brother Raynard Screws officiating. Interment was at Wilson’s Chapel cemetery, Kaufman County, Texas.
Betty is survived by her husband, J. Roland Screws, Bogata; son Darin Screws, Bogata; daughters Rhonda Screws, Bogata, Cheryl Timms, Dallas, Dana Crawford, Bogata; brothers Michael Gandy, Nacogdoches, Gary Hughes, Westminster; sister Carolyn Ballard, Kaufman; and granddaughter Hailey Screws, Bogata.
Pallbearers were Michael Miles, Emory Bruner, Aaron Bruner, Clay Bruner, Jonathan Gandy and Dale Screws.
Doris Anna Price
Doris Anna Price was born in Kaufman County, Texas, on Dec. 15, 1915, to Albert and Maude Duncan Mitchell. She passed away in Kaufman on April 3, 2003.
Doris was raised in the Arcadia community and later moved to Dallas. She moved back to Kaufman in 1983.
Doris worked for Terrell State Hospital and retired in 1987. She was preceded in death by her husbands Nathan Young and Cecil Price and a great grandchild, Jerri Elaine.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Dolores Thorp, of Gun Barrel City; sisters Barbara Sullivan of Dallas and Betty Garbee of Virginia; grandchildren Vicki McGuire, Felecia Caskey, Tami Thorp and Shawn Thorp; great grandchildren Dylan, Nikki, Renee, Ashleigh and Lacey; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 6, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the Parker-Ashworth Chapel with Rev. D. G. Council and Rev. Mickey Loftis officiating. Interment was in Kaufman cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home of Kaufman.
Donald Eugene Armstrong Sr.
Donald Eugene Armstrong Sr. was born in Kansas City, Mo., on Oct. 7, 1928, to Fred and Leona Miller Armstrong. Don passed away in a Kaufman hospital on April 6, 2003.
Don was raised in Kansas City, Mo., and later moved to Lamar, Mo. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1945. Don moved to Kaufman in 1969. He was active with the Kaufman Senior Citizens Center and was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Kaufman. On Aug. 8, 1952, Don married
Mary Nocar in Maryland.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Armstrong, of Kaufman; sons Robert Tucker of Maryland and Donnie Armstrong of Fort Worth; daughter Susan Lloyd of Kaufman; brother Fred Armstrong Jr. of Paola, Kan.; sisters Pat Key of Wheatland, Mo., and Jeanie Fisher of Wheatland, Mo.; grandchildren Heather, Sarah, Daniel, Randy, Ashley, Kristen, R. J., Bobby, Erika, and Ryan; and great-grandson: Devin.
Don was a wonderful man who will truly be missed by his family and friends. Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at 11 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church in Kaufman. Rosary was recited Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at 6:30 p.m. at the Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment followed in Kaufman cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home of Kaufman.
James W. Davis
James W. Davis was born on Aug. 10, 1929, in Little Rock, Ark., and passed away on April 3, 2003, in Kaufman.
Davis retired from teaching in Kaufman Independent School District in 1984. He was a veteran of the United States Navy.
Funeral services were held on April 7, 2003, at First Baptist Church in Kaufman with Dr. Brent Gentzel officiating. Interment was at Wilson Chapel under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank.
Davis is survived by his wife, Ann Davis, of Kaufman; son William and wife Teressa Davis of Kaufman; daughter Alesia and Rick Holbrook of Conway, Ark.; brothers Harold and wife Marceil Davis of Angleton and Otis and wife Betty Davis of Spring; special friend Aundrea Jones; and four grandchildren.
Vera Darlene Meroney
Vera Darlene Meroney of Kaufman passed away March 17, 2003, in Rowlett, Texas. She was born to Montie and Vera Dennis Besherse on Oct. 20, 1957, in Dallas.
Surviving are her mother Vera Besherse of Kaufman; sons Michael, Tony, Phillip and Chad Meroney; daughters Darla Meroney and Shana Grumbles; brothers Billy, Montie, Timmy and Donny Besherse; sisters Kathy Besherse, Debra Manning and Sherrl Albright; and other relatives and friends.
Under the direction of Goggans Funeral Home of Terrell, grave side services were held Friday, March 21, 2003, at Morrow Chapel cemetery at Ola.
Betty Jean Hagler
Betty Jean Hagler of Kaufman passed away at her home in Kaufman on Aug. 13, 2003. Betty was born in Canton on June 15, 1926, to Edgar and Opal Smith Stovall. She was raised in Canton and graduated from Canton Schools. After her father’s last term as Van Zandt County Judge in 1945 she moved to Dallas.
On Dec. 27, 1946, Betty married
Reuben Earl Hagler in Rockwall. They moved to Kaufman in 1952 where they owned and operated The Kaufman Hotel. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kaufman and served as an election judge for Kaufman County.
Betty is survived by her husband, Reuben Hagler of Kaufman; daughter Paula Wampler and her husband, Ron, of Gate City, Va.; sister Ivelle Baker of Indiana; grandchildren Chris Parks and Jennifer Barham; great-grandchildren Austin Parks, Mackenzie Parks, Sarah Hensley and Annie Barham.
Funeral services where held Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003, at 10 a.m. at Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services followed at 1 p.m. at Haven of Memories cemetery in Canton.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home of Kaufman.
David Anson Fogle
David Anson Fogle of Plano was born Dec. 13, 1918, in Prairieville, and went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 2, 2002.
He graduated from Kaufman High School, attended Texas Tech University and served his country in World War II as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army 331st Army/Air force base unit. He was a Master Mason in the Masonic Lodge since 1959. He was self-employed as a real estate broker until his retirement.
David was preceded in death by his father, Thomas E. Fogle, mother Martha Clemontine (Clem) Crisp Fogle, and brother, Thomas Paul Fogle.
Survivors include niece, Linda and Bobby Lockhart of Hope, Ark.; nephew, Paul Fogle of Commerce; niece, Marsha Fogle of Irving; two great nephews; one great niece; three great great nephews, all of Hope, Ark.; first cousins, Mary Crisp Hendricks of Marble Falls, and Jackie Crisp Swindle of Kaufman; and other family and friends.
Visitation was held from 4-6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home. Services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, in the chapel at Cross Bend Christian Church in Plano, with Sr. Pastor Jack Fleming officiating. A second service was held at 3 p.m. at Eubank Memorial Chapel with graveside following at Cedar Creek Memorial Park in Mabank with Rev. Don Teague officiating.

Cecil Hubert Kornegay
Cecil Hubert Kornegay was born in Dallas on Oct. 1, 1927, to Hubert and Nora Thomas Kornegay. He passed away Oct. 25, 2002, in a Dallas Hospital.
Cecil was raised in Dallas and graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Alaska. On Sept. 9, 1949, he married
Joy Hearne in Dallas. Cecil worked for his father at Kornegay Service Station in Dallas and began working for the U.S. Post Office in 1967. He lived in Arlington from 1955 to 1975 when he moved to Grays Prairie. Cecil was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kaufman.
Cecil is survived by his wife, Joy of Grays Prairie; sons, Cecil H. Kornegay Jr. of Cleburne and David William Kornegay of Payne Springs; daughters, Susan Dillon of DeSoto, Joy Davis of Grapevine, Velma Kornegay of Grays Prairie and Florence Donawho of Pipe Creek; 13 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at First Baptist Church Kaufman with Bro. Harry Erb officiating. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home of Kaufman. .
Glenroy B. Cooke
Glenroy B. Cooke, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away Oct. 29, 2002, at Presbyterian Hospital in Kaufman.
He was born in Foxborough, Mass., on Nov. 6, 1923, to parents Glenroy B. Cooke Sr. and Mae Isobel Graton Cooke, who have preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Cooke of Scurry; son, Michael Cooke and wife Doretha of Strafford, Mo.; daughters, Patricia Cates and husband Charles of Scurry; Toni Birdsong and husband Larry of Scurry, and Teresa Pearcy of Springfield, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters, Margee Wyman of Providence, R.I., and Phyllis Raymond of Foxborough Mass.; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Sue Ramsey
Sue Ramsey, age 83, of Georgetown and formerly of Kemp, Texas, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, in Georgetown. She was born Nov. 26, 1918, to Thomas Leland and Alice (Welch) Dyer in Cherokee, Okla.
She married
Herschel Ramsey on Nov. 22, 1939 in Amarillo, Texas. She was church organist at Kaufman Presbyterian Church, and was a devoted mother, wife, grandmother, artist, educator and Christian.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herschel “Red” Ramsey; and two brothers, Bill and Kenneth Dyer.
Survivors are sons, Thomas Randolph Ramsey and wife Joelle of Waco, and Dr. David Alan Ramsey and wife Cathy of Georgetown; daughter, Carol Suzanne Hager and husband Tommy, of Georgetown; 8 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Michael Roberts officiating.

Joe Bailey Baker
Joe Bailey Baker was born March 17, 1916, to William and Laura Morris Baker. Joe passed away in Kaufman on March 9, 2003.
Joe was raised in Oak Grove and later lived in Dallas. He moved to Forney for six years and then moved back to Scurry in 1980. Joe owned and operated Parry Cleaners in Dallas for 30 years. He was also employed by Kaufman ISD for 12 years.
On Nov. 16, 1973, Joe married
Inez Bateman in Oklahoma. Joe is a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Scurry. He was preceded in death by a son, Freddie Michael; brothers Allie, Vernon, and Bill Baker; and a sister Opal Graham.
Joe is survived by his wife, Inez Baker of Scurry; son Joe B. Baker and his wife, Marilyn, of Sulphur Springs; daughters Benita Jo Rich and her husband, Don, of Euless, Kathy Mackey and her husband, Denny, of Crandall; stepdaughters Camille Heath of Mesquite and Gail Livengood and her husband, Burt, of Lockhart; brother Woodrow Baker; sister Marie Boles; 13 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and other relatives.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, at 10 a.m., March 11, 2003, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Scurry with Rev. Garris Baggett and Rev. Mickey Loftis officiating. Interment was in Grove Hill Memorial Park in Dallas.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home of Kaufman.
William Charles Hutchinson
William Charles Hutchinson was born in Santa Barbara, Calif., on June 16, 1959, and he passed away in Kaufman on March 6, 2003.
Billy was raised in Santa Barbara and entered the U. S. Army in 1973. He moved to Kaufman in 2002 where he was the assistant produce manager at Brookshire’s in Kaufman.
Billy is survived by his wife, Johnetta Brooks of Kemp; sons Billy Hutchinson of California and Jason Brooks of Kemp; friends Jannie Harris, Nigel Harris and Robert Lee and other relatives.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, March 13, 2003, at 10 a.m. at Parker-Ashworth Chapel with Rev. Darrell Hill officiating.
Bessie Mae Lagow Harkness
Bessie Mae Lagow Harkness, 90, of Arlington passed away March 5, 2003, in Arlington. Services were on Saturday, March 8, 2003, at Eubank Memorial Chapel, Mabank, with Rev. Don Teague officiating. Interment was on Saturday at Southland Memorial Park, Grand Prairie.
Mrs. Harkness was born Feb. 21, 1913, in Holland, Texas, to Joshway and Lee (Baird) Teague. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kaufman.
Survivors include her sons Michael Lagow and wife Joyce of Grand Prairie, Mickey Lagow and wife Lyndia of Kaufman; three daughters, Betty Calhoun and husband Buddy of Grand Prairie, Janet Roberts and husband Lynn of Kaufman, Janice Schigut and husband Mark of Grand Prairie; brother Tosh Teague of Kaufman; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Samuel Mack Lagow, and her second husband, Travis Harkness.
