SADLER – Funeral services for Sylvia Alene Hightower, 77, will be held Thursday, May 17, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at the Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Whitesboro, Texas with Rev. Rick Carney assisted by Rev. John Gowling officiating. Interment will follow the service at Sadler Cemetery. Family visitation will be Wednesday, May 16, 2012, from 7 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home. She passed way on May 15, 2012 in Sherman, Texas. Sylvia was born on December 7, 1934 to Hampton C. and Eula M. (Brown) Fowler in Cooke County, Texas. She married James Hightower on September 19, 1951 in Sherman, Texas. She was a member of the Sadler United Methodist Church. She was a retired mail carrier for the United States Post Office. She loved her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening and was an avid fisherman. She is survived by her husband, James Hightower, of Sadler; son, Jimmy Ray Hightower, of Sadler; daughter, Patricia Miles and husband, Greg, of Whitesboro; daughter, Terri Furey and husband, Jim, of Sadler; grandchildren: Austin Miles and wife, Jessica; Katie Miles of College Station; Randel Furey of Sadler; her brother, Ray Fowler of Denton; sisters: Alice Fay Melton and Jan Fowler, both of Sadler. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hampton and Eula Fowler; her sister and brother-in-law, Gladys and Ted Dutton; brothers, Kenneth Wayne Fowler; and brother-in-law, Ronald Melton. Her family wishes to thank the staff and doctors of Traditions Senior Living and Home Hospice of Grayson County, both of Sherman, Texas. She passed away on May 21, 2012 in Denison, Texas. Jeanne was born on April 20, 1930 to Lewis Burton and Mary Arlena (Harrison) Smith in Wewoka, Oklahoma. She married Gene Lee Arnold on September 6, 1958 in Ft. Worth, Texas. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Eastern Star of Louisiana. She worked for Knight’s Furniture of Sherman, Texas, for 20 years as a bookkeeping specialist. She enjoyed watching football and working crossword puzzles. She loved to dance and in her younger years raced Harley Davidson motorcycles. She is survived by her children: Alec Emerson and fiancé, Claire Dion, of Seattle, WA; Brenda Rowan and husband, Terry, of College Station, TX; Dorinda Handley and husband, Steve, of Sherman, TX; Lyn Arnold and wife, Kim, of Whitesboro, TX; Tammy Wallace and husband, Marshall, of Whitesboro, TX; Melissa Abernathy and fiancé, Tori Faulkner, of Whitesboro, TX; Kenda Sinclair and husband, Eddie, of Collinsville, TX; 22 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis Smith and Mary Arlene Greathouse; husband, Gene Lee Arnold; son, David Emerson; and two sisters: Ruth Campbell and Elizabeth Lundstrom. Interment will follow the service with a private burial at Whitaker Cemetery in Gunter, Texas. Mrs. Ray passed away on May 24, 2012, in Gunter, Texas. La Vera Geneva Ray was born on October 17, 1915, to George and Beulah (Humphrey) Pierce in Valera, Texas. She married Curtis Ward Ray on January 25, 1934 in Belton, Texas. She was a devoted wife and mother. She is survived by her daughters: Bertha Hall and husband, Jerry, of Whitesboro, TX; and Geneva Zarbaugh and husband, Robert, of Sunnyvale, TX; three grandchildren: Rosanne Lusk, Audie Hall and wife, Janis, and Gaylia Laird and husband, James; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. Family visitation will be Sunday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. Dorothy passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2012, in Denison, Texas. She was born to George W., Sr. and Emma Bell (Tamplen) Roland on February 10, 1918 in Whitesboro, Texas. She was a retired Social Security supervisor. She moved from Texas to Chicago and later to Florida. She retired to Lake Kiowa and then to Sherman. She liked to travel. She enjoyed fishing and was active in sports. She was a very loving, giving and caring person. She is survived by her brother, George W. “Dub” Roland, Jr. of Whitesboro; and sister, Jane Faulkner of Sherman; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Snyder; her parents, and her siblings: Kathryn, Frances, Glennis, Edith, Gussie Lee, Lucile and Billy Joe.

Kathleen passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at Texas Health Presbyterian-WNJ in Sherman, Texas. She was born on May 24, 1921, to Noah and Rosetta (Duck) Heffley in Mt. Judea, Arkansas. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Collinsville, where she enjoyed her Faithful Workers Sunday school class. She loved to cook for her family. She also loved gardening and painting. She was a very good artist. She also loved taking trips to Arkansas. She is survived by her children: Darnell Dove and wife, Judy, of Bedford, TX; Johnny Dove and wife, Martine, of Collinsville, TX; and Lana Henderson and husband, Gene, of Collinsville, TX; grandchildren: Dawna Michalke, Tar Henderson, Karen Terry, Jeana Fraser and Shannon Middleton; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Dan Heffley of Denton, TX; twin sister, Maxine Parsons, of Sadler, TX; and sisters: La Rue Bostick of Sherman, TX and Rheba Walker of Collinsville, TX. Mark Lyn Washburn

SHERMAN – Funeral services for Mark Lyn Washburn, 60, will be held Saturday, May 26, 2012, at 10:00 a.m., at the Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Whitesboro, Texas with Rev. Joe Patterson officiating assisted by Rev. Jason Anderson. Interment will follow the service at Rose Hill Cemetery in Bells, Texas. Family visitation will be on Thursday, May 24, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. He passed away on May 22, 2012 in Sherman, Texas. Mark was born on January 31, 1952 to W.H. “Jack” and Alta Fay (Arnwine) Washburn in Bells, Texas. He was very involved in local, state and national politics. He was passionate about the pro-life movement. It was a personal victory for him when the Planned Parenthood (in Sherman, Texas) was closed down. He lived a full life. He was tenacious in facing his life’s difficulties. He loved to talk. He was a dispatcher for the Grayson County and Cooke County Sheriff’s Departments and also for Whitesboro, Iowa Park and Bowie Police Departments. He is survived by his brothers: Bill Washburn and his wife, Shirley, of Bonham, TX; Joe Washburn and his wife, Becky, of Bonham, TX; and Dale Washburn and wife, Carol, of Whitesboro, TX; sister-in-law, Linda Washburn; nieces and nephews: Tracy Washburn, Tamera Lorentz, Terry Washburn, Tisha Brown, Alicia Powell, Alison Godbey, Andrew Washburn, Kaley Washburn, and Lane Washburn; and special friend, Evonne. He was preceded in death by his parents, W. H. and Alta Washburn; his brother, Larry Washburn; and a niece, Debra Nault. Maxine Cunningham

ARLINGTON – Funeral services for Maxine Cunningham, 95, will be held Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at 2:30 p.m. at the Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Whitesboro, Texas with Rev. Mike Flanagan and Rev. Kevin Henry officiating. Interment will follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery in Whitesboro, Texas. Family visitation will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home, prior to the funeral service. She passed away on May 24, 2012 in Arlington, Texas. Maxine was born on June 11, 1916 to John Q. and Dora (Douglas) Eldredge in Sadler, Texas. She married George Wayne Cunningham in 1936. They were married for 57 years until his passing in 1993. Maxine lived a very simple lifestyle. She loved her family and was a very devoted wife. She enjoyed a special relationship with her sisters. When asked what her hobbies were, she always said, “Cleaning house. It’s fun to me!” She took pride in taking care of her home. She also loved flowers. She had always been an active church member until she became homebound. She loved the Word of God and continued to deepen her faith even when she could no longer attend church services. Billie Louise Wilcox

GORDONVILLE - Billie Wilcox, born September 16, 1928, died peacefully in her home May 28, 2012. She was 83 years old. She was born in Blackwell, Oklahoma. She lived, worked and raised her children in Ponca City, Oklahoma until she married Don Wilcox in July 1969. They were soon transferred to Gainesville, Texas in 1970 with Arco. In 1981 when Billie retired from Southland Paint Company in Gainesville, Texas, they moved to Lake Texoma. Don preceded her in death in November 2007. Billie is survived by sons: Steve Kinzie and his wife, Glenda, of Ponca City, OK; Daniel Kinzie and wife, Julie, of Hilton Head, SC; and daughter, Kathy Bezner and husband, Tommy, of Gordonville, TX; grandsons: Corey Kinzie, Marc Kinzie, and Chris Kinzie; granddaughters: Kasi Kenzie, D'Arcy Goodenough, and Hadley Kinzie; and great-grandchildren, Cade Kinzie and Morgan Kinzie. The family has planned a private memorial service. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home.
Melvin Jennings Walden

COLLINSVILLE – Melvin Jennings Walden passed away at 87 years old on Wednesday, May 30, 2012, in his home surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Hillsboro, Texas, on June 25, 1924 to John P. and Nita (Jennings) Walden. He attended Collinsville High School until joining the Navy. He proudly served 14 months in the Pacific during World War II, earning seven battle stars while on the USS Bryant. He married LaVerne Hutton on December 3, 1948 in Whitesboro, Texas. They had 63 years of marriage. They lived and farmed in Collinsville, Texas. His health had been declining for several years with Diabetes/Alzhiemers. He was one of the oldest members of the First Baptist Church of Collinsville, Texas, and a Sunday school teacher while his health permitted. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and cousin. He liked to be with family and friends and enjoyed going to the coffee shop. He was an avid reader, especially his Bible, while his health permitted. Surviving are his spouse of 63 years, LaVerne Walden of Collinsville, TX; granddaughter: Candi White and husband, Michael, of Whitesboro, TX; grandson, Heath Roland and wife, Ashley, of Celina, TX; brother, Emmett Walden and wife, Delores, of Columbus, OH; sisters: Dottie Rollins and husband, Jack; and Nelda Haliburton and husband , Mearle, both of Sherman, TX; son-in-law: Gary Roland of Whitesboro, TX; six great-grandchildren: Cole, Austin and Chase White of Whitesboro, TX; and Avery Ann, Landon, and Bailey Roland of Celina, TX; several nieces and nephews; and a host of special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Nita Walden; his daughter, Lana Walden Roland; brothers: Archie Walden and Lowery Walden; and sister, Emma Hall Lusk; Memorials may be made to your choice of beneficiary. Joyce was born on September 24, 1941 to Albert and Lillian (Blackwood) Keenum in Hobart, Oklahoma. She married Jackie William Morris, Sr. She went to college for her nursing degree while raising 7 children. She was a nurse for 26 years at Wilson N. Jones Memorial Hospital in Sherman, Texas. She had a charitable heart and made blankets which she donated to the local homeless shelter. She is survived by her children: Jack Morris (Katy) of Lewisville; Kathleen Dobbs of McKinney; Kandy Frye of McKinney; Tracy Mack of Luther, OK; Penney Cartwright of Oklahoma City, OK; Susan Colley (Mike) of Bonham; and Jill Morris of Plano; grandchildren: Skye Edgett, Johnny Edgett, Seth Edgett, Joshua Cartwright, Timothy Mack, Cassie Morris, Maddy Morris, Jackson Morris; and brother, Everett Keenum (Kay). All service arrangements are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home in Whitesboro, Texas. Geneva passed away in Amarillo, Texas, on Friday, June 8, 2012. She was born on September 25, 1925 to Lonnie Andrew and Ora (Matthews) Denton in Cedar Mills, Texas. She married Sostenes Yara in Las Vegas, New Mexico. She started her career as a nurse in 1954. She was an excellent cook. She also loved antiques. She is survived by her sons: Budge Rawlins of Perryton, TX; and Bo Rawlins of Shamrock, TX; daughters: Susan Elms of Murchison, TX; Geneabeth Wilson of Amarillo, TX and sister, Zelma Lee Skinner of Mesquite, TX; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sostenes Yara; and her parents, Lonnie and Ora Denton.
Patricia Lynn Carder-Riley

COLLINSVILLE, Memorial service for Patricia Lynn Riley, 53, of Collinsville, will be held Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Whitesboro with Peggy Carder officiating. Patricia Riley died at her home in Collinsville, Texas, Saturday, June 9, 2012. Ms. Riley was born December 8, 1958 to Jay B. Carder and Geneva Loy (Thomas) Carder in Pee Wee Valley, Kentucky. Ms. Riley was a caregiver and loved to scrapbook, and was also a lover of animals. Ms. Riley was a 16 year breast cancer survivor, as well as having MS for 20 years. Patricia is survived by her father, Jay B. Carder and step-mother Peggy Carder of Denton, Texas; Sisters, Jaylene Faye Carder, Collinsville, Texas, and Tina Louise Carder of Louisville, Kentucky. Friends Sherry Carter and Laura Beumer (friends of 50 years) both of Louisville, Kentucky and friends Clyde Lamar of Pottsboro, Texas and Cheryl Laird, Robin Snow, Maxine White and Kayla Shumpert all of Collinsville, Texas; as well as many nieces and nephews. Ms. Riley was preceded in death by her mother, Geneva Loy Carder, brother, Tim Carder and sister, Robin Gale Carder.

GAINESVILLE - Funeral services for Bryan Mack Eldredge, 46, will be held on Monday, June 25, 2012, at 10:00 .m. at the Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Whitesboro, Texas with Rev. Rick Carney and Rev Roy Duff officiating. Interment will follow the service at Sadler Cemetery. Family visitation will be held on Sunday, June 24, from 6-7 p.m. at the funeral home. He passed away on June 21, 2012 in Plano, Texas. Bryan was born on November 27, 1965, in Sherman, Texas to Jimmie Mack and Pat (Harshbarger) Eldredge of Sadler, Texas. He graduated from Gainesville High School in 1984. He was also a graduate of the Automotive Technology Program at the Universal Technical Institute in Houston, Texas. Bryan was a hard worker throughout his lifetime. He began working with a paper route at the age of 11 and also mowed lawns. He also worked at service stations for many years. Following his graduation at U.T.I., he worked for Johnson Motor Co. and Glen Polk Auto Company. For three years he worked with his father at the Shallow Well oil field company in Electra, Texas. He was currently employed at the Chaparral Energy Oil Company. He was a natural mechanic and loved working on cars. He was a long-time resident of Gainesville, Texas with the exception of his employment in Electra. He was a member of FBC Gainesville. He is survived by his parents: Jimmie Mack and Pat Eldredge of Sadler, TX; siblings: Sheryl Voth and husband, Glenn; Terry Eldredge and wife, Debi; Lyresa Descoteau and husband, Bernie; and D’Andrea Haydel and husband, Dave; 13 nieces and nephews; 17 great-nieces and nephews; and 1 great-great nephew. Pallbearers will be Chris Jones, Cory Jones, Cody Bradshaw, and Caleb Bradshaw.
William "Bill" Roe

William “Bill” Franklin Roe was born on May 13, 1919 to John W. and Pearly Jane (Wilson) Roe in Bagwell, Texas. He married Ella Frances Davidson on November 20, 1943 in Marysville, Texas. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Whitesboro, Texas. He was retired from Burlington Industries. Gene Alexander was born on September 12, 1928 to Shelby Newton and Etta Lee (Scott) Alexander in Whitesboro, Texas. He married Jennie Grace Earnhart on August 10, 1947 in Howe, Texas. They were married until her passing in 2005. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Whitesboro and a member of the Texas Baptist Men. He was a family man who enjoyed time with his loved ones. He loved lake outings and took great pleasure in teaching his children and their friends how to water ski. He loved to travel during the summer months. He was a teacher for 9 years at Sherman ISD, Building Trade School. He was in construction and built houses for the largest part of his adult life. He is survived by his children: Bob Alexander and wife, Vera, of Whitesboro; Sharion Acker and husband, Johnny, of Whitesboro; Marilyn Meals of Castle Rock, CO; Jerry Alexander and wife, Jana, of Coppell; Susie Meals and husband, Donnie, of Whitesboro; his sister, Marie Henderson and husband, J. P., of Whitesboro; 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jennie Grace Alexander; his parents: Shelby and Etta Alexander; and a sister and four brothers.
Mary Jean (Henderson) Goode
(February 18, 1941 - June 29, 2012)
GAINESVILLE – Mary Jean Henderson Goode was born to Marion and Mary (Howard) Henderson on February 18, 1941 near Sandusky, Texas. She was born again of the water and the Spirit December 24, 1956 (Acts 2:38). She went to sleep on June 29, 2012. Funeral services are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home at 401 Hwy. 377 North, Whitesboro, Texas, with Bro. Melvin Jackson of Ft. Worth Holiness Church of Jesus Christ and Bro. Marlin Harp and Jerry Billings of Whitesboro Holiness Church of Jesus Christ. She married Glenn Goode on July 5, 1957 in Gainesville, Texas, at the Church of Jesus Christ. They were married six days shy of 55 years. She was a chartered member of the Holiness Church of Jesus Christ of 316 S. Jordan St., Whitesboro, Texas. She was a wonderful homemaker, loved to cook, and enjoyed spoiling her family and friends. She enjoyed sewing and going to church. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Glenn Goode (The Fiberglass Man); sons: Darin Goode of Krum; Jay Goode of Sherman; Duane Goode of Leonard; daughters: Glenda Steed of Gainesville; and Lisa Bloom and husband, Ryan, of Sanger; sister, Louise Farmer of Whitesboro; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will be at Meador Funeral Home on Monday, July 2, from 6-8 p.m. for family visitation. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 3, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with burial to follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery. Mrs. Goode was preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Mary Henderson; brothers, Charles Henderson and Lindy Ray Henderson. Pallbearers will be grandsons: Brad Steed, Cory Goode, Derek Goode and Dylan Goode; and nephews: Michael Farmer, and Brent Goode.
Donna Kaye Bell

GORDONVILLE – Funeral services for Donna Kaye Bell, 60, will be held Friday, July 13, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Whitesboro, Texas. Interment will follow the service at Bluebonnet Hills Cemetery in Colleyville, Texas. All service arrangements are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home. There will not be a visitation service. She passed away on July 9, 2012 in Gordonville, Texas. Donna was born on November 4, 1951 to Lionel Jack and Floy (Moore) Helvey in Ft. Worth, Texas. She loved horses. She is survived by her sons: John Burk and wife, Donna, of Mt. Pleasant, TX; and Stephen Burk and wife, Robin, of Ft. Worth, TX; five grandchildren: Jonathan, Zane, Hannah, Michael, and Cade; and one brother, Bob Helvey, of Raton, NM. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lionel and Floy Helvey.
Lora Lee Jones
(August 24, 1942 - July 11, 2012)
WHITESBORO – Memorial services for Lora Lee Jones, 69, are planned for Monday, July 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Crossroads Baptist Church in Madill, Oklahoma with Pastor Tim Jones and Pastor Greg Jones officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home in Whitesboro, Texas. She passed away on July 11, 2012 in Denison, Texas. Lora was born on August 24, 1942, to Marion Dodd and Lora (Clark) Sims. She married David D. Jones on June 18, 1960, in Gainesville, Texas. She was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star and also served as a parish nurse. She had been an R. N. since 1972. She was a member of the Cross and Spurs Cowboy Church in Madill, OK. She was the founder of Marshall County Home Health and Pilot Point Home Health (where she was still actively serving). She is remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend. She enjoyed spending time with her family. She was especially proud of grandson Joshua’s U. S. Army service in Afghanistan and Iraq. She loved nature, especially bird watching. She loved reading and enjoyed farming and ranching. She also was an organ donor. She is survived by her husband, Pete Fox, of Whitesboro, TX; son: Greg Jones and wife, Michelle, of Madill, OK; daughters: Kimberly Kuykendall-Massingill and husband, Bill, of Madill, OK; and Amy Goedecke and husband, Chris, of Whitesboro, TX; grandchildren: Joshua Jones, Kylee Kuykendall, Anna Kate Goedecke and Christian Goedecke; great grandson, Duke Jones; sister, Margaret Goff, of Sherman, TX; and niece, Leigh Anne Goff, of Sherman, TX. She was preceded in death by her husbands, David D. Jones and Larry Leighton; her parents, M. D. and Lora Sims; and a brother, Jimmy Sims.
