PAMPA - Dwayne Leigh Smith, 67, died Saturday, June 21, 2008.
A memorial and celebration of life service will be at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church, Foster & Ballard (200 E. Foster), in Pampa. A reception will be held in the Fellowship Hall following the services.
Marie Sparks
Marie Sparks, age 90, died Thursday July 24, 2008. Services will be Monday July 28, 2008, at 10:00 A.M., in the First Christian Church, with Reverend Frank Sutherland officiating. Burial will be in Hansford Cemetery under the arrangement of Boxwell Bothers Funeral Home of Spearman.
Marie was born in Lodi, Virginia August 7, 1917. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Spearman and a homemaker. Lifestar took her to heaven 8 minutes out of Spearman, she will be dearly missed by her family.
A daughter Rebecca Peery of Fritch, one granddaughter Misty Light of Miami, TX, one grandson Brandon Perry of Fritch, and two great granddaughters Samantha and Jennifer Wilson both of Miami, TX survive her,

Howard Paul Hinton
Howard Paul Hinton, 78, died Wednesday, July 23, 2008, in Amarillo.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Ed Rogers, retired minister, officiating. Private burial will be in Lane Memorial Cemetery in Sunray by Morrison Funeral Directors.
Howard Hinton was born Sept. 4, 1929, in Indianola, Okla., to I.G. and Myrtle Hinton. He moved from Oklahoma to Sunray in 1942. He attended Sunray High School, where he was a member of the school's first football team. Howard married Caroline Worst of Sunray, and they recently celebrated their 59th anniversary. He was a former resident of Gruver, where he farmed. He was the first meter prover with Diamond Shamrock. In 1995, he retired as superintendent of pipelines and terminals after a 41-year career.
Howard loved to fish, hunt, work on "his place," work with children at church and backpack with his grandchildren. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 1009, where he served as Deputy Grand Master, and was a deacon of First Baptist Church.
The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the doctors and nurses of BSA Hospice and BSA Hospital.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Viola Richardson, in 2007.
Survivors include his wife, Caroline; three daughters, Stephanie Petersen of Grass Valley, Calif., Starrla Myers and husband Cody of Amarillo and Shelley Beedy and husband Kyle of Flower Mound; a son, John Hinton and wife Karen of Weatherford; seven grandchildren, Kaci and Holt Myers, Ashley and Avery Beedy, Caitlin Petersen and Tristan and Hunter Hinton; a sister, June Howard of Deer Park; and countless other relatives and friends.

Una Morgan-Wolfe
Una Morgan-Wolfe, 86, of Amarillo died Sunday, July 20, 2008.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Una was born July 22, 1921, in Waco to Lee Ballinger and Annie Hardwick Stroud. She moved to Borger in 1927 and graduated from Borger High School in 1938. She married Wilson Morgan in 1938. Una and Wilson went on numerous campaigns for Christ all over the United States. They were married for 51 years before he died in 1989. She later married Homer Wolfe in 1992. He died in 2001.
She taught women's and children's Sunday school classes throughout her life. She was most recently a member of Bell Avenue Church of Christ for more than 10 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a sister.
Survivors include two sons, Jim Morgan and wife Judy of Fritch and Terry Morgan and wife Joy of Cushing, Okla.; two daughters, Margaret Hooker of Amarillo and Jan Howard and husband Rick of Spearman; two stepsons, Terry Wolfe and wife Janet of Edmond, Okla., and Gary Wolfe and wife Sherry of Lubbock; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Rev. Dr. J. Joseph Podolak
The Rev. Dr. J. Joseph Podolak passed away July 17, 2008.
He was born August 30, 1941, to Jean Podolak Stein and the late John Podolak. He attended school in Carnegie, graduating in 1959. Following a brief stint in the U.S. Army, both active duty and reserves, he enrolled at Wilmington College in Wilmington, Ohio. In 1965, Joe graduated with honors, earning a B.A. in Science Education. One week later he married his college sweetheart, Christiane. Immediately following graduation, Joe taught high school, later serving as an industrial engineer, working at several locations in the Midwest. During that time Podolak earned a Master's Degree in Business Administration.
In 1975, Joe enrolled in Trinity Lutheran Seminary to begin four years of study directed at earning a Master's Degree in Divinity. After ordination in the American Lutheran Church he served parishes in Gruver, Sinton, Brenham, and Bay City, before accepting a call to Martin's Ferry, Ohio. In 1991, Joe completed work on his Doctorate in Parish Ministry at the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago. In 1998, he returned to Texas to accept a call to Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Coletoville. In November 2005, Pastor Joe began serving as a Relief Pastor on the staff of First English Lutheran Church in Victoria.
In early 2006, Joe was blessed to again fall in love, as he met and married his second wife, Sherry. In the years they had together, they enjoyed the challenge of building a new home in Victoria, working on church activities at First English, traveling and spending hours with their four grandchildren.
Dr. Podolak is survived by his wife, Sherry; his mother Jean Podolak Stein of Salem, Ohio; mother-in-law Lee Lubin of Seattle, Washington; his sister Naomi (Jan McPeek) of Leetonia, Ohio; brother Robert (Judy) of Cape Coral, Florida; his brother-in-law, Wayne Lubin (April and son, Schuyler) of Seattle, Washington; his children Rachel Podolak of Austin, Texas, John (Janis) Podolak II, and Mark Podolak of Victoria; and grandchildren Joshua, Brittany, Justin and John Podolak III. He was pre-deceased by his father John; his beloved wife, Christiane in 2004; his sister Lorraine Stafford.
Services for Rev. Dr. Joe Podolak will be 1:30 pm Saturday, July 26, 2008, at First English Lutheran Church in Victoria, Rev. Dr. William Hassel officiating. Dr. Podolak requested that those wishing to send memorials consider a gift to Lutheran Hunger Appeal, Lutheran Program of the Southwest, the Lutheran Seminary in Austin, or directly to First English Lutheran Church.
William Carey Bridges
William Carey Bridges went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, July 15, 2008.
Carey was born to Clark and Laura Bridges on Aug. 19, 1961, in Lovington, NM. He graduated from Spearman High School in 1979 and continued his education in the School of Pharmacy at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. He married Denice Blackburn in 1991. Carey was employed as a pharmacist at Covenant Hospital. He will always be remembered for his love of family, love of life, his generosity and Christian faith.
He is survived by his wife, Denice of 17 years; his daughter, Amy; parents, Clark and Laura Bridges of Spearman; sister, Dawn and her daughter, Katie; in-laws, Ted and Zetha Collins of Dimmitt; Sara and Chris Deuillet of Plano; Adrain and Oscar Rojas of Borger; two nieces; five nephews and a host of relatives and lifelong friends.
Carey has left this world a better place. A Celebration of Life ceremony was held at 5:00 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2008 at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers, 82nd & Iola Ave., Lubbock.

Lucy Altha Groves
Funeral services for Lucy Altha Groves, 101 years old, of Spearman, TX, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at First Baptist Church of Spearman. Pastor Jim Medley will officiate, and burial will be at Hansford Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.
Altha was born March 19, 2007, in Terry County, TX, to Edwin Merton and Lucretia Elizabeth Groves. The family moved to Spearman, TX in about 1924, where they bought a farm three miles east of town. Since the death of her mother, Lucretia, in 1949, and her father, Edwin, in 1959, Altha continued to operate the farm through rental until the past year, raising wheat and milo.
Altha raised parakeets, sold Tupperware, served as a telephone operator for Spearman and Gruver, and boarded local teachers. She is perhaps best known in the community for her many years as a nurse's aid at Hansford County Hospital. Being an only child and never marrying, she devoted her life to her extended family as well as to a host of friends, being known affectionately as 'Aunt Altha' to several generations.
Altha accepted Christ as her Savior at the age of 12, having been invited by a friend to a Christmas program, and she has been an active member of First Baptist Church until her health precluded her attendance. She participated in several missions to aid an orphanage in Matamoros, MX, and has served as an example of Christ's love through her service to many friends and relatives, especially in times of sickness or need.
Altha resided in her home in Spearman until a week before her 100th birthday, when she began residence in Hansford Manor. Despite suffering from almost complete blindness, she had managed to live alone in recent years with the help of her care-taker and friend, Pam Harris of Gruver, her cousin Doug Brown, and many other friends.
Altha is preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Lucrecia Groves, and by two brothers who died in childhood, William Nelson and Emmett Houston Groves. She is survived and lovingly remembered by generations of cousins and many friends.

Rev. James E. (Jimmy) Tidwell
Rev. James E. (Jimmy) Tidwell, a retired Methodist minister, passed from this life on Saturday, June 28, 2008. He was 90 years old. For 30 years, from 1946 to 1976, he served God through his appointments within the Northwest Texas Conference of The United Methodist Church in Channing, Friona, Paducah, Brownfield, Andrews, Snyder, Perryton and Floydada.
Born in Dallas on January 28, 1918, he married Cornelia (Connie) Farren Tidwell in 1946. After her death in 1993, he married Jimmie Jean Baldwin Ryan, in 1994 in Lampasas. A memorial service will be held at The First United Methodist Church of Lampasas at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, June 30, 2008.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jackson Thomas Tidwell and Madeline Maloney Tidwell McBride, and his twin brother, Jack M. Tidwell.
Survivors include his spouse, Jimmie Jean Tidwell of Lampasas, his loving children, Paul Tidwell and wife, Phyllis, of Dallas, TX, Jaclyn (Jackie) Pearson and husband, Bob, of Spearman, TX, Marilyn Calliham and husband, Sam, of Bastrop, TX, and Sarah Susan Supulski Wocieszyn and husband, John, of Smithville, TX. He is also survived by his older sister, Mary Frances Mims McCubbin, and her husband, Rtd. Adm John McCubbin, of Steilacoom, WA. He is remembered with love and esteem by his stepchildren, Julie Ryan of Grapevine, Stuart Ryan of Austin, Suzanne McCotter and husband, Larry, of Montgomery, TX, Claudia Ryan Wills and husband, Butch, of Mt. Pleasant, TX, James Ryan and wife, Tiffany, of Arlington, TX, and John Ryan and wife, Tami, of Austin, TX. He was known as 'Papa' by his 25 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, as Uncle Jimmy to his nieces and nephews, and 'Bro. Jimmy' to a host of friends throughout Texas.
Jimmy answered God's call throughout his life by serving others. A man of many 'hats', he was a 32nd degree Mason and a lifetime member of The Scottish Rite, a Rotarian, a member of The Kiwanis, a volunteer fireman, a community volunteer, a referee, a substitute teacher, an operating room technician, a little league coach and much more. After his retirement as a pulpit pastor, he and Connie served as administrators of 'Star Oaks', a PEO retirement home in San Antonio. He owned and operated Tejas Industries, a woodworking business in Ft. Worth, during the early 1990's. Jimmy was always willing to learn new things, and, in 1994, he began a new life as a rancher as he and Jimmie Jean worked side-by-side on her family's ranch near Lampasas, TX.
The family requests that memorials be made to The First United Methodist Church of Spearman' Building Fund, Hansford Hospice, The O' Loughlin Center, or your favorite charity. A graveside service at Ochiltree Cemetery near Perryton, TX, will be held at a future date.
Paul Loring Westerfield
Born in Lubbock, Texas to Paul and Glenda Westerfield, Paul Loring Westerfield went to be with his Lord, Jesus Christ on June 17, 2008 after a long battle with thoracic cancer. He was living in Flora Vista, NM at the time of his death. He was 55.
A former resident of Gruver, he graduated from Trinity University and the served in the U.S.Army in Fulda, Germany. He later was with Sematech Consortium and Applied Materials in Austin, TX and San Jose, CA, where his daughter, Jane was born 13 years ago. He loved her dearly and it was his sorrow to leave her when she is so young.
He had a great sense of humor, and that helped to see him through the pain of his illness. His giving nature helped many people, and his friends remember him as one they could always depend on.
He was working as a geologist with Choquette Logging Co. until his illness forced him to retire.
Paul was a pilot who, like his father, loved to fly. At the time of his passing, he was building an Ultra-light aircraft for his pleasure.
He leaves his daughter Rebecca Jane of Austin, TX, his mother Glenda Westerfield of Carrollton, TX, his brother, Steve and Judi Westerfield of The Colony, TX, and sister, Lee and Mike Smith of Wolfe City, TX, nieces and nephews and many who called him friend.
He requested cremation with no formal services. We will remember every day what he meant to the family he left behind.
Jo Helen Morton
DUMAS - Jo Helen Morton, 79, died Monday, June 23, 2008.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Morrison Memorial Chapel with Art Lynch, minister of First Street Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Leib Cemetery in Morse by Morrison Funeral Directors.
Jo Helen was born Oct. 3, 1928, in Levelland to N.L. and Toy Wood. On April 16, 1946, she married Frank Morton in Tucumcari, N.M.
She was a homemaker and had been a resident of Moore County since 1943. Jo Helen was a Church of Christ member.
The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to Dr. Ben Covington and staff, Memorial Hospital emergency room and intensive care unit staff and Memorial Hospice staff.
Survivors include her husband, Frank; two daughters, JoAnn Green and husband Lance of Vernon and Sherry Robinett and husband John of Dumas; a son, James Morton and wife Whitney of Pampa; a brother, Nelson Wood of Cushman, Ark.; three sisters, Toy Moore of Weatherford, Sandy Wilbanks of Grandview and Ann Robertson of Meade, Kan.; seven grandchildren, Brandi, Kenna, Jennifer, Tandi, Micah, Austin and Caden; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Pat Murphy
PERRYTON - Pat Murphy, 74, died Saturday, June 21, 2008, in Texarkana.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. Sally Jo Boyd officiating. Burial will be in Ochiltree Cemetery.
Mr. Murphy was born July 26, 1933, in Morse. He was a motor grader operator and worked for Ochiltree County for many years.
Survivors include five daughters, Eva Ward, Glenda Carpenter and Mary Hopkins, all of Texarkana, and Elaine Aylor and Lisa Davis, both of Perryton; a son, Teddy Murphy of Perryton; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity.
Dwayne Leigh Smith
PAMPA - Dwayne Leigh Smith, 67, died Saturday, June 21, 2008.
Memorial services will be at a later date. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa.
Mr. Smith was born July 1, 1940, in Pampa, to Irl and Irene Franklin Smith. He attended West Texas State University in Canyon, majoring in speech and theater, and Elins Radio Institute in Dallas.
Dwayne served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He began working in broadcasting at KFDA-TV and KVII-TV in Amarillo, and then worked as newscaster and sportscaster for Coy Palmer at KBMF-FM in Spearman, which later became KRDF-FM.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pampa and the Aldersgate Sunday school class. He was a member of Top O'Texas Masonic Lodge No. 1381 in Pampa, served as Worshipful Master of the Hansford Masonic Lodge No. 1040 in Spearman for 13 years, and was a member of Gruver Masonic Lodge No. 1326.
He was a past commander of the Borger Chapter Council and Commandery and was a member of the Khiva Shrine Temple in Amarillo and the Lubbock Scottish Rite Consistory. He loved theater and sports.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1994 and his mother in 1996.
Survivors include a sister, Rochelle Lacy and husband Calvin of Pampa; two nieces, Gail Threet and husband Johnny of Lubbock and Glenna Bowman and husband Rick of Austin; a nephew, Greg Wilkins and wife Pyeper of Rockwall; a cousin, Darrel K. Franklin and wife Ann of Pampa; three aunts, Mae Louise Franklin of Pampa, Cleo Nix of Groom and Ladine O'Connor of Sun City, Ariz.; an uncle, Everett Butler of Pampa; two stepnieces, Janet Bilyeu and husband John of Pampa and Debi Musick and husband Roger of Weatherford, Okla.; two special friends, Carolyn Cummings and Cecil Biggers, both of Spearman; and several other cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews.

John H. Horn
CLAUDE - John H. Horn, 88, formerly of Claude, died Saturday, June 14, 2008, in Astoria, Ore.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church in Claude with the Rev. Janet Edwards, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Claude Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers at Claude.
John was born Dec. 15, 1919, in Haskell to Joseph and Bertha Horn. In 1940, he graduated from Spearman High School.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces from 1942 to 1946. He spent most of his life working as a fireman.
Survivors include a daughter, Edith Louise Hornby of Concord, N.H.; a son, Brad Horn of Warrenton, Ore.; a sister, Onetia Key of Amarillo; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
