Ruben Reed Clark
Ruben Reed Clark was born Dec. 22, 1940, in Casa Grande, Arizona and was a graduate of Plainview High School. He was married to Rachelle Achen in Fort Sumner, N. M. April 28, 1962. He had been employed by Furr’s, Inc. in a supervisory capacity for a number of years and had been employed by Colgate - Palmolive Company as a representative for the last 20 years. He had lived in Odessa 30 years prior to moving to Lubbock three years ago. He was a member of Shepherd of the Plains Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife; three Daughters, Laurie Renee Whitacre, of Lubbock; Janie Renell Gipson, of Odessa and Eva Ruette Clark of Lubbock; his mother, Sibelle Bradford, of Lubbock, a sister, Joyce Ivie, of Lubbock, and four grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to New Mexico Christian Children’s Home, 1356 Hwy 236, Portales, N. M. 88130.
He died Wednesday July 31, 2002 at the age of 61.
Vaughn Albert Campbell
Vaughn Albert Campbell was born December 13, 1923 in Lipan, Texas to Albert and Winnie Adams Campbell. He attended public schools in Slaton and served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He married Evelyn Owens on June 15, 1954 in Lubbock and she preceded him in death June 29, 2002. He moved to Lubbock in 1946 and became employed with the Santa Fe Railroad and retired in 1978. He was a member of the First Assembly of God and the Teamster’s Union.
Survivors include his twin sister Vernell Summerlin of Lubbock and sister Venita Bishop of Lubbock and several nieces and nephews also survive him.
His sister Venus Perry preceded him in death on March 13, 1999.

He died Saturday, August 3, 2002, at the age of 78.
Lucille Habbinga
Lucille Habbinga was born on April 13, 1910 in Sayre, Oklahoma to Cager and Mary Smith Green. She graduated from Draughon’s Business College and farmed in the north areas of Lubbock County. She married Herman Habbinga on September 13, 1941 in Clovis, New Mexico and he preceded her in death on October 31, 1997. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son, Richard Habbinga and his wife, Lynda of Austin; two grandchildren, John Habbinga of Lubbock and Lara Habbinga of New York City, New York; a sister, Ethel Glass of Austin; three brothers, Raymond Eugene Green of Portland, Oregon, George Green of Fort Payne, Alabama and J. C. Green of Greenville, Texas.
The family suggests memorials be sent to Calvary Baptist Building Fund at 5301 82nd Street in Lubbock, Texas 79424.
She died on Friday, November 29, 2002 at the age of 92.
Fayma M. Davidson
Fayma M. Davidson was born August 10, 1923 in Cottle County and had been a resident of Lubbock since 1938. She married Pat N. Davidson, March 7, 1943 in Lubbock. She had been involved with the P.T.A. and the Campfire Girls. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Dorcas Sunday School Class. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Pat of Lubbock; a daughter, Nancy Johnson of Lubbock; 2 grandchildren, Patti Taylor of Yukon, Ok., and Brandon Addenbrooke of Lubbock; 3 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Ben Low of Kerrville and Fred Low of Clifton.

She died Sunday, December 1, 2002 at the age of 79.
Margie Blagg
Margie Blagg was born on December 13, 1928 in Boswell, Oklahoma to William and Emma Flood Cheek. She had been a resident of Lubbock since moving from Boswell, Oklahoma in 1950. She was employed by Morton Foods from 1956 until she went to work for Town and Country Stores in 1981. She retired in 1992 from Town and Country Stores and was a member of the United Pentecostal Church.
Her brother, Hubert Cheek of Broken Bow, Oklahoma; her sister, Sue McAda of Lubbock; eight nieces and nephews; eighteen great-nieces and great-nephews survive her.
The family suggests memorials be sent to the Joe Arrington Cancer Center.
She died on Saturday, November 30, 2002, at the age of 73.
Cleo McCutchen
Cleo Boydston was born on February 19, 1927 in Old Church, Oklahoma to George Clarence Boydston and Carrie Fleeter Radford. She attended schools in Blue, Oklahoma. She married Wayne W. McCutchen on December 22, 1971 in Plainview, Texas, He preceded her in death on September 9, 1983. She moved Hereford, Texas from Plainview, Texas in 1971. She had been employed at Armour Meat Packing in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and in Hereford at Taylor & Sons Foods for more than 2 years; Troy’s Sweet Shop for more than 19 years; and at Nazarene Kids Korner. She was a member of The Church of the Nazarene.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Brenda Beams of Shallowater, Texas, and Shirley Winchester of Las Lunas, New Mexico; two stepdaughters, Joy Bunch of Hereford, Texas, and Waynelle Couch of Silverton, Texas; 1 stepson, J.R. McCutchen of Wichita Falls, Texas; 1 sister, Beatrice Williams of Plainview, Texas; 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Mrs. McCutchen died on Sunday, January 26, 2003 at the age of 75.
Anesimo Vargas
Anesimo Vargas was born on February 2, 1938, in Robstown, Texas to Anastacio and Juanita Vargas. He was raised and attended school in Cameron, Texas. He married Candelaria Suniga Vargas on August 19, 1961, in Hereford, Texas. He was moved to Hereford in 1972 from Memphis, Texas. He was employed as a sugar melter at Holly Sugar Corporation for more than 20 years and was a self-employed truck driver. He was a member of La Iglesia de San Jose.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and two brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Candelaria Vargas, of Hereford; four daughters: Janie and Rolando Aquillon of Hereford; Frances and Joel Martinez, Anita and Elvis Soria, and Jennifer Vargas, all of Amarillo, TX; four sons: Rojelio and Antonia Vargas, of Vernon, TX; Joel Vargas, of Hereford; and Tomas and Elena Vargas and Anesimo, Jr., and Delma Vargas, all of Amarillo; five brothers: Pedro, Sr., and Lale Vargas, of Hereford; Jose and Josie Vargas, of Rogers, TX; and Mike and Bertha Vargas, Anastacio, Jr., and Elva Vargas, and Juan and Sylvia Vargas, all of Cameron; two sisters: Adela and Dimas Corona, of Cameron, and Alpedia and Fred Fenton, of Scranton, PA; 19 grandchildren and1 great granddaughter.
Mr. Vargas died on Wednesday, January 29, 2003, at age 64.
Beverly Mae Richardson Marcy
Beverly Mae Richardson Marcy was born in Kingman Arizona on February 28, 1934. Beverly is survived by her husband, William M. Marcy, her son Geoffrey D. Marcy of Lubbock, her sister Corinne Woollard of Redding California and her sister Connie Lowgren of Morro Bay, California.
Beverly was a member of First Christian Church in Lubbock. She served for more than 10 years as a volunteer at University Medical Center. Through her volunteer work at UMC she was very active in fund raising for the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon. She was also an active member of the University Women’s Club at Texas Tech University.
Before her marriage Beverly served for 14 years as a staff member of the US Central Intelligence Agency. She had tours of duty in Munich Germany, Ottawa Canada, Tokyo Japan and Santiago Chile where she met her husband Bill. Beverly and Bill were married in the Judge’s Chambers in Charlotte, Amalie Virgin Islands on August 9, 1968.
Beverly’s service to her country exemplified both her patriotism and her sense of adventure. She is one of the many unsung heroes of the cold war.
Beverly was an expert skier. She picked her overseas assignments in part by access to skiing. She grew up in the mountains and red wood forests of California. She loved to be out in nature. Her father, Milan C. Richardson, was a mining engineer who took his family into the mountains of California for many vacations and trips to mining properties that he supervised. Her family’s favorite spot was Red Wood Canyon in Sequoia National Forest.

William H. (Bill) Walton
William Hicks (Bill) Walton, 63, of Dallas, Texas, was born December 18, 1939, in Lubbock County, Texas, to Newton and Mary Walton. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Texas Tech University and worked at the Mercantile Bank in Dallas and later opened and managed the Dallas branch of I.W. Burham and Company, a New York investment firm for 15 years before starting a new career in oil and gas drilling and development, most recently as Pinewood Exploration, Inc.
Mr. Walton is survived by his mother, Mrs. Mary Walton, of Lubbock; a sister, Lynn Walton Witcher; a nephew, Greg Mundy and wife Michelle; and one grand-niece, Kendall Mundy, all of Austin, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a favorite charity in Mr. Walton’s name.
He passed away March 24, 2003, in Dallas.
Bertie Muse
Bertie Muse was born on May 8, 1909 in Cooper, Texas, and married Audie Lee Muse on December 21, 1928 in Floydada, Texas. He preceded her in death October 6, 1988. She lived in Lubbock from 1940 until 1963, then in House, New Mexico until 1988 and in Canyon for the past 4 years. She owned and operated Muse Convalescent Home in Lubbock. She was a Seventh Day Adventist.
She was also preceded in death by two sons, Clinton L. Muse, January 1, 1989, and Winifred Muse, August 20, 1999.
She is survived by a daughter, Nettie Reed of Arlington; a son Alton Muse of Hale Center; two brothers, Walter A. Goodgoin of Lubbock and Estle Goodgoin of Plainview; two sisters, Florence Taft of Lubbock and Bonnie Yandell of Honey Grove; twelve grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She died Monday, March 24, 2003 in Amarillo at the age of 93.
Jesus Escamilla
Jesus Escamilla was born October 4, 1914, in Charlotte, Texas to Luz and Petra Escamilla. He worked as a farm laborer and had operated a service station. He married Gregoria Arredondo July 3, 1935 in Pearsall, Texas. Mr. Escamilla was a member of La Iglesia de San Jose.
He was preceded in death by a son, Paul Escamilla, a daughter, Anita Escamilla and six brothers.
He is survived by his wife; six sons, Juan, Alfonso, Jesse and Antonio all of Hereford, Oscar of Farmers Branch and George of Amarillo; five daughters, Alicia Gonzales of Haslett, MI, Mary Moralez and Angie Pina both of Hereford, Eva Casarez of Amarillo and Francis Lopez of Lubbock; 45 grandchildren, 86 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial to the St. Anthony’s School Endowment Fund.
Mr. Escamilla died Wednesday, March 26, 2003 at the age of 88.
Bertha Farrar
Bertha Farrar, known as “Bet” to her family and friends was born September 20, 1902, in Providence, R.I., and had been a resident of Warwick, R. I. from 1904 until 1978, when she moved Lubbock. She was a charter member of the Eastern Star Signet Chapter 21. Mrs. Farrar had been a Communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Warwick, R. I., and St. Paul’s on the Plains Episcopal Church in Lubbock.
Survivors include her daughter, Gwen Murphy, and her husband, Donald of Lubbock; four grandchildren, Donna, Barbara, Stephen, and Robert; seven great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren.
Committal services will be in North Burial Ground Cemetery in Providence, R. I.

Mrs. Farrar died Friday, March 28, 2003.
Dominga Casias
Dominga G. Casisa was born April 23, 1907 in Seguin, Texas to Domingo and Bernarda Gonzales.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bartolo B. Casias and four daughters, Emilia Cervantez, Tomasa Cervantez, Maria Diaz, and Lupe Moreno. She was a Crucillista and member of The Guadalupana Society in Lorenzo and Hereford. She moved to Lubbock in 1998 where she was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church..
She is survived by 1 son: Jesse Casias of Lubbock; 4 daughters: Antonia Diaz of Hereford, Jovita Aguilar of Amarillo, Linda Lopez of Lubbock, Margie Polanco, of Post; 1 sister: Rita Garza, of Friona; 54 grandchildren, 87 great-grandchildren, 7 great great-grandchildren:
Tyree Woodard
Memorial services for Tyree Woodard, Sr. will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at W.W. Rix Chapel with Mr. Herman Boone presiding. He died March 31, 2003.
Mr. Woodard was born in Mott, Texas on Oct. 10, 1927, and moved to Lubbock in 1949. He married Annie Perkins on March 6, 1963 in Marlin, Texas. He was a diesel mechanic for 26 years before retiring in 1990.
He is preceeded in death by his father, Van Woodard, mother, Roxie Melvin Woodard, 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, Tyree, Jr and Roy Perkins; eight daughters, Felecia Jordan, Loneta Bailey, Roxie Jones, Peggy Woodard, Vergie Perkins, Chloe Purifoy, Brenda Taylor and Lawanda Walker; three brothers, Randolph, Roy Lee and Floyd; seven sisters, Doris Parrish, Gladys Hines, Naomi Taylor, Erma Jewel Wade, Willie Faye Woodard, Barbara Ann Woodard and Joyce Marie Allen; 32 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Dr. John R. Chalk
Dr. John R. Chalk, longtime Lubbock physician, died Monday evening, June 30, at his residence. He was 82. He was born in Quanah, Texas and graduated from Lubbock High School at age 16, Texas Tech University at age 19 and the University of Tennessee School of Medicine at age 21. He served in the U. S. Air Force following his graduation and served his internship as a flight surgeon in Vienna, Austria. He returned to Lubbock and opened a practice in 1949 with Dr. Lee E. Hale, and was an owner of West Texas Hospital and later served as Chief of Staff at St. Mary’s Hospital, retiring in 1986. While in Texas Tech, he was a member of Silver Key and assisted in bringing that social club into Phi Delta Theta, a national fraternity .
He was married to Callie Martin, of Lubbock, May 5, 1951. She served with her sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta, in both local and national areas. She died March 4, 1995.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Edward (Ann) Johnston, of Lubbock, and Mrs. Curtis (Mary) Wheat, of Fort Worth, a son, John R. (Rutley) Chalk II, of Freeport, Maine, and eight grandchildren: Will, Jessica, Callie Ann, and John Johnston, of Lubbock; Amanda Wheat of Houston and Mary Ann Wheat of Fort Worth; and Morgan and Lauren Chalk of Albuquerque.

Gloria Dunnam
Gloria Dunnam was born in Lubbock, Texas April 13, 1953 to Charlie and June Drum Dunnam. She was a graduate of Cooper High School and had been employed over the years as a chef. She loved to cook for family and friends. She died July 4, 2003 at her mother’s residence near Lubbock and will be missed by her family.
Surviving family members are a daughter, Veta Smith, of Junction City, Kansas; her mother, June Dunnam, of Lubbock; a sister, Norma Clark of Lubbock; a brother, James Dunnam, of Crowley, Texas; and four grandchildren, Cory, Samantha, Brianna and Angela.
Services will be scheduled at a later date.
Eunice C. Cloyd
Eunice C. Cloyd was born February 27, 1918 in Bishop Alabama and graduated from Lubbock High School in 1938, where she played basketball and volley ball. She was married to Andrew E. Cloyd, Jr., in Lubbock October 4, 1951 and he died January 11, 2000. She was a homemaker and had been employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone for a 10 year period. She had lived in Lubbock, then in Sweetwater from 1967 until 1997, when she moved back to Lubbock.
Her surviving family members are her daughter, Brenda Kay O’Briant, of Lubbock; a granddaughter, Camile O’Briant, of Los Angeles, California; a sister, Edith Theredge, of Lubbock, two sisters in law, Mrs. Phillip Hall of Lubbock and Mrs. Elaine Garrett, of San Angelo and several nieces and nephews including Ronald French, of Lubbock.
She died July 4, 2003 in IHS Hospital, Lubbock, Texas.

Harmon Loyd Morgan
Harmon Loyd Morgan was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma to John H. and Gladys F. Morgan. Growing up in Oklahoma, he was in the Navy during World War II. After the war, he continued working in Journalism as an editor on several Oklahoma newspapers. He then decided to go into teaching earning his masters degree from the University of Oklahoma and his doctorate from the University of Southern Illinois. Harmon taught at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas in the Mass Communications Department for 24 years before retiring. He was an ardent supporter of the Texas Tech Lady Raiders basketball team.
Harmon is survived in his immediate family by his wife, Lucinda, his son, John, his daughter, Lisa, and a grandson J. Heath as well as several other relatives.
Mr. Morgan died on Sunday June 29, 2003.
