Joe Booth

MEMPHIS - Joe Booth, 77, died Thursday, May 26, 2011, in Childress.

Graveside services were at 3 p.m. May 28, 2011 in Fairview Cemetery Chapel with the Rev. Daniel Downey officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery by Hughs Funeral Home.

Joe was born April 8, 1934, in Sulphur Springs to the late Henry Booth and Dora Lunceford Booth. He was a 1953 graduate of Lakeview High School.

He worked at the Lesley Gin and later worked as a night watchman for 20 years for the city of Memphis. He also was the dog catcher.

He married Faye Hubbard on June 22, 1995, in Memphis. Joe was a lifelong resident of Hall County and was a member of First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by a brother; and three sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Faye Booth; two stepchildren, Donald Ray Moore Jr. of Wausau, Wis., and William Moore of Tampa, Fla.; a sister, Mildred Lewis of Morse; and four stepgrandchildren.

The family suggest memorials be to Fairview Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 265, Memphis, TX 79245.

Retired Army Staff Sgt. James Albert Miller

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Retired Army Staff Sgt. James Albert Miller, 81, died Tuesday, May 24, 2011.

Graveside services with full military honors were at 10 a.m. May 27, 2011 in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery. Arrangements were by Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville.

James was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Army for 20 years. He was a wounded combat veteran of the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Miller and Ella Miller Shaw; two brothers, Leonard Miller and Wayne Miller; and three sisters, Wanda Lenz, Irene Perry and Mattie Powell.

Survivors include his wife, Yukiko "Jeannie" Miller; two daughters, Brenda Leggett and husband John of Fayetteville and Tammy Henderson and husband Bain of Leesburg, Ga.; a son, James Miller Jr. and wife Annette Green of Washington, D.C.; four sisters, Lilly Mae Love of Spearman, Texas, Virginia Lincoln of Elgin, Kan., Joy Campbell of Woodward, Okla., and Nancy Calhoun of Buffalo, Okla.; three brothers, Pete Miller of Higgins, Texas, Leslie Miller of Langley, Kan., and Aaron Miller of Shattuck, Okla.; three grandchildren, Shannon Clark, Sean Leggett and Akemi Henderson; two great-grandsons, Nicholas Clark and Liam Clark; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Felix De La Cruz

Felix De La Cruz, 28, of Vernon died on Monday, May 30, 2011.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday June 3, 2011 at the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd with Don Weemes, Associate Pastor of Victory Church, officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Felix was born on October 3, 1982 in Borger, Texas to Felipe and Sadie De La Cruz. He graduated from West Texas High School in Stinnett.

He was preceded in death by his father Felipe De La Cruz, Sr.

Survivors include his wife, Lesley Ann De La Cruz of Vernon; two daughters, Noelle Fernandez and Isabella De La Cruz both of Vernon; his mother, Sadie De La Cruz-Sanchez of Morse, TX; a brother, Felipe De La Cruz, Jr. of Amarillo and a sister, Stephanie De La Cruz of Mesquite, TX; his in-laws, Juan and Yvonne Fernandez of Stinnett.

The family suggests memorials be made to Noelle Fernandez and Isabella De La Cruz Scholarship Fund, c/o H & H Credit Union, Box 1187, Stinnett, TX 79083.

Muang Chantharaj

Muang Chantharaj 92 of Amarillo Died Saturday July 26, 2003 in Amarillo.

Services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday at the First Baptist Church Sanctuary with Home KeomoungKhoune, Laotian minister oficiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home 2800 S. Osage St.

Mr. Chantharaj was born in Laos and raised in Thailand. He was a rice farmer and retail grocer before moving to Amarillo in 1989 from Thailand.

Survivors include: 3 sons; Pon Chantharaj of Houston, Sathien Chantharaj of Amarillo and Narong Chantharaj of Thailand, 2 daughters; Bounsieng Chitchack of Thailand and Khankhien Chantharaj of Paris, France, 21 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren

Melvin Aljo Bell

Melvin Aljo Bell, 67 of Amarillo died Monday July 28, 2003 in Amarillo.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church with Dr. Dana Moore officiating. Cremation and arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home 2800 S. Osage St.

Mr. Bell was born in Thayer, Kansas. He moved to Amarillo in 1997 from Corsicana, Texas. He lived in Dodge City, KS for 30 years. He worked for several off shore drilling companies, and also worked for Foley Tractor Co. in Dodge city, KS. He married Jonel Bratton Decker at Woodville, TX in 1966.

He was affiliated with Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.

Survivors include: his wife, of the home; 1 daughter, Chris Keirlman and husband Steve of Del Norte, CO; 1 son, Glenn Decker and wife Dawn of Palmer, TX; and 1 sister, Beatrice Gable of Newport, WA; 6 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

Memorial Donations may be made to Don & Sybil Harrington Cancer Center or Crown of Texas Hospice.

Robert Lance McKelvy

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Friday at Chaparral Hills Baptist Church with Alan Burkhalter, pastor officiating. Interment will be at Llano East Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home 2800 S. Osage St.

Mr. McKelvy was born in Amarillo. He lived here all his life. He graduated from Tascosa High School in 1997. He attended West Texas A & M University. He graduated from the Amarillo Police Academy in 2000. He worked at the Borger Police Department for 2 years. He was the DARE officer for the Borger schools last year.

He married Cassie Rogers in May, 2003 at Canyon. He was a member of Chaparral Hills Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Eddie Lynn McKelvy in 1981, and an aunt, Vicky Still in 2000.

Survivors include: his wife, of the home; his parents, Khristi McKelvy and Rod Sears of Amarillo; his grandparents, Neal and Bonnie Smith of Clifton, TX, J.L. and Dorothy Goldman of Marietta, OK; 1 aunt, Rhonda Guillotte of Heber Springs, AR; 5 uncles, Roy McKelvy, Harley McKelvy, Frank McKelvy all of Marietta, OK, Ronnie McKelvy of Austin, and Brent Smith of Dalhart; his parents-in-law, Rick and Stacy Rogers of Amarillo; 2 brothers-in-law, Ricky Rogers and Jeffery Rogers both of Amarillo; many friends and his brothers in blue.

Memorial Donations may be made to The Chaparral Hills Baptist Church Building Fund, 3300 W. Cherry, Amarillo, TX 79108.

Verda Mae Wheeler

Verda Mae Wheeler, 85, died Sunday in Casa Grande, AZ.
Memorial services will be at 3:30 PM on Friday at Rector Funeral Home Chapel. Cremation and arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home 2800 S. Osage St. Amarillo, Texas.

Mrs. Wheeler was born in Apache, Oklahoma. She attended Oklahoma State University and was a supply clerk before retirement. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a past president for the state of Texas. Lived in Amarillo for 18 years before moving to Casa Grande in March. She enjoyed science fiction and action movies, reading, gardening, cooking, and painting. She was a Methodist.

She married Tom Wheeler in 1950. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1980 and by her daughter, Sally Ann McKinney in 1999.

Survivors include three sons, Walter Perry Freeman of Casa Grande, AZ, Thomas C. Wheeler of College Station, TX, and Jack Wheeler of Amarillo; a brother, Perry Freeman of Oklahoma City; 9 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren

Melvin O. Garner

Dr. Melvin O. Garner, 76, of Amarillo, died Thursday, August 8, 2002 at his home.

Services will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday at Southwest Baptist Church, with Rev. R. D. Wade of Dallas, and Rev. Larry Maddox of Houston, officiating. Interment will be at Llano East Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home 2800 S. Osage Street.

Rev. Garner was born in Missouri. He married Dorothea Leonard in 1943. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was called to preach in 1948. He and his wife moved to Amarillo in 1953. He started Grace Baptist Church in Amarillo, and it grew to a membership of over 2000 people. He retired from preaching in 1995 while at Central Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothea Garner in April, 2002, and by 2 brothers, Robert Earl Garner in 1988, and James E. Garner in 1996.

Survivors include: 2 daughters, Dora Bates of Amarillo, and Laura Garner of Canyon; 1 son, Les Garner of El Paso; 1 brother, W. Merle Garner of Higgins; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren.

Colonel Rick Douglas Husband

Rick Husband was born in Amarillo, Texas. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1975 and graduated from Texas Tech University in 1980 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He received a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from California State University-Fresno in 1990.

Upon graduation from Texas Tech University, he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He attended pilot training at Vance Air Force Base in Oklahoma, graduating in 1981. He was assigned to F-4 training at Homestead Air Force Base in Florida, and then was assigned to Moody Air Force Base, Georgia. In 1985, he attended F-4 Instructor School and was assigned as an instructor pilot and academic instructor later that year at George Air Force Base, California. In 1987, he attended the United States Air Force Test Pilot School and upon completion of this training, served as a test pilot flying the F-4 and all five models of the F-15. He served as the program manager for the Pratt & Whitney F100-PW-229 increased performance engine, and also served as a F-15 Aerial Demonstration Pilot. His Air Force Career took him to many different Air Force Bases. In 1992 he became an exchange test pilot with the Royal Air Force. He logged over 3000 hours of flight time in more than 40 different types of aircraft.

Colonel Husband was selected as an astronaut candidate by NASA in December 1994; reporting to Johnson Space Center in March 1995, to begin a year of training and evaluation. Upon completion of his training, Major Husband was named the Astronaut Office Representative for Advanced Projects at Johnson Space Center.

Colonel Husband was a Distinguished Graduate of the Air Force ROTC, Undergraduate Pilot Training, Squadron Officers School, F-4 Instructor School, and United States Air Force Test Pilot School; Outstanding Engineering Student Award, Texas Tech University, 1980;and F-4 Tactical Air Command Instructor Pilot of the Year, 1987. His military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Aerial Achievement Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.

Colonel Husband was a member of the Society of Experimental Test Pilots, Tau Beta Pi, Air Force Association, and the Texas Tech Ex-Students Association. He enjoyed singing, water and snow skiing, cycling, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Grace Community Church in Houston.

Colonel Husband married the former Evelyn Neely, a Texas Tech Telecommunications graduate. They have two children Laura and Matthew.

Benny L. Jameson

Benny L. Jameson, 56 of Amarillo died Monday February 3, 2003 at Amarillo.

Funeral Services will be at 2:00 PM Friday at Trinity Baptist Church with Dr. David Evans, pastor officiating. Interment will be at Llano East Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home 2800 S. Osage St.

Mr. Jameson was born in Lebanon, Missouri. He moved to Amarillo with the US Air Force in 1965, before serving a tour in Viet Nam from 1966-1967. He was then stationed at McConnell AFB in Wichita, KS. He was honorably discharged from the USAF in 1968. He worked as an electrician and did remodeling for 5 years. He worked in sales for 15 years. He was most recently self-employed as a tax accountant and financial planner.

He married Rita Tredway in 1966 at Amarillo. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Jameson in November, 2002.

Survivors include his wife of the home; 1 daughter, Tammy Brock and her husband, Mike of Amarillo; his mother, Gladys Jameson of Willard, MO; 3 granddaughters, Jessica Brock, Elizabeth Brock, and Rebecca Brock, all of Amarillo; 2 grandsons, James Brock and Andrew Jameson, both of Amarillo; 2 sisters, Nancy Hall of Camdenton, MO, and Marie Graham of Ash Grove, MO; 3 brothers, William Jameson of Willard, MO, Spencer Jameson of Ash Grove, MO, and Richard Jameson of Clemmons, NC.

The family requests memorial donations be to the Trinity Baptist Church Building Fund,1608 Wolflin, Amarillo, TX 79109, or Don & Sybil Harrington Cancer Center, 1500 Wallace Blvd., Amarillo, TX 79106, or Olivia’s Angels c/o BSA Hospice, 200 NW 7th, Amarillo, TX 79107.

Charles E. Maas

Charles E. "Chuck" Maas, 74 of Amarillo died Sunday March 30, 2003 at the Kritser
Ranch.

Services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday at Rector Funeral Home Chapel with Kevin Dotson, pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home 2800 S. Osage St., Amarillo, Texas, 79103.

Mr. Maas was born in Rhame, ND. He lived in Stratford for 20 years where he raised his 3 sons. Mr. Maas farmed and ranched most of his life. He worked for the Krister Ranch for the past 19 years. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Mr. Maas lived life one day at a time, taking the good and making it better and taking the bad and turning it into good. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He married Juanita Hancock in 1951 at Clayton.

Survivors include his wife of the home, 3 sons; Charles A. Maas and Skip Maas both of Amarillo and David Maas of Dumas, 4 sisters; Maxis Thompson of Scranton, ND, Norma Schneider of Bismarck, ND, Mary Holgard of Lemmon, SD and Cathy Hurley of Alamagordo, NM, 2 brothers; Milton Maas of Georgetown and Donald Maas of Pueblo, CO, 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Joyce Euton Dendy

Joyce "Euton" Dendy 68 of Amarillo died Monday March 31, 2003 at Amarillo.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM Thursday at Llano Cemetery with Dr. Gil Lain, pastor of Paramount Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home 2800 S. Osage St., Amarillo, Texas, 79103.

Mrs. Dendy was born in Amarillo. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1952. She worked in the catalog department at Sears for 20 years. She retired in 1991. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She was preceded in death by a son, Greg Dendy in 1980.

She married J. Roger Dendy in 1952 at Amarillo.

Survivors include her husband of the home, 1 daughter Jonita Fiel and her husband Rick of Amarillo, 1 son Jerry Dendy of Amarillo, 2 grandchildren, Ryan Fiel and his wife Barbara of Rewood City, CA and Regina Fiel of Amarillo.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 Wednesday at the funeral home and request memorial donations be to the American Heart Assoc. 6605 I-40 W. Amarillo, Texas 79106.

Anna Vance Jobe

Anna Vance Jobe, 85 of Amarillo died Thursday August 8, 2002 at her home.

Services will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday at Pleasant Valley Christian Church with Jerry Davey, pastor officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home 2800 S. Osage Street.

Mrs. Jobe was a homemaker and had been a member of Pleasant Valley Christian Church many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, L.C. Jobe in 1965

Survivors include: 2 daughters; Shirley Forrest of Lubbock, TX and Betty Burleson of Amarillo, 4 sons; Rick Jobe, Leroy Jobe and Buford Jobe all of Amarillo and Bobby Jobe of Tacoma, WA., 1 brother; T.J. Vance of Marlow, OK., 18 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Ann Gaskill

Dorothy Ann Gaskill, 79, of Amarillo, died Saturday, August 10, 2002.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM Monday at Llano Cemetery, with Bob Brown, of Central Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home 2800 S. Osage Street.

Ms. Gaskill was born in Springfield, MO. She moved to Amarillo in 1982 from Oklahoma. She retired in 1985 as a desk clerk for the Coachlite Motel. She was a Lutheran.

Survivors include: 1 son, Richard Gaskill of Amarillo; 1 granddaughter, Jennifer Lane of Amarillo; 1 grandson, Rick Gaskill of Borger; 6 great-grandchildren, Kayla Gaskill, Brittany Gaskill, Ricky Lee Gaskill, Chanelle Riggle, Cody Lane and Tyler Lane
