PAMPA - Thomas Brown Jr., 47, died Wednesday, June 29, 2011.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Spike Maldonado, pastor of New Life Embassy of Amarillo, officiating.
Mr. Brown was born Aug. 4, 1963, in Amarillo. He had been a resident of Pampa most of his life and worked for several companies as a welding inspector.
Survivors include a son, Chase Brown of Pampa; three daughters, Nikki Brown of Spearman, and Jessica Brown and Madison Brown, both of Pampa; his mother, Ruth Brown of Pampa; his father, Thomas Brown Sr. of Pampa; two brothers, Darren Brown of Borger and Greg Brown of Amarillo; a sister, Nicole Brown of Amarillo; and a granddaughter.

Edna Begert May
WHEELER - Edna Begert May, 95, died Friday, July 15, 2011, in Amarillo.
Services were at 2 p.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church in Allison with the Rev. Ricky Carstensen officiating. Burial were in Zybach Cemetery in Allison by Wright Funeral Home of Wheeler.
Edna May was born the seventh of eight children on July 8, 1916, in Lewistown, Mont., to Emily Jane Haw and J.J. Richardson. From Montana, the family moved to the Llano river near Junction, where many fond memories were experienced and shared.
After living in Canyon, for several years, Edna completed her education at Allison High School. She married Ernest Begert in 1935, and to them two children were born, Edwin and Linda.
After Ernest's death in 1970, she married Ruben May in 1974, who died in 1990. Edna was a homemaker, farmer's wife, seamstress, postal worker, and enjoyed seeing God's world from an artist's point of view. She loved her church family of Allison Methodist church. At the age of 90, she moved to the Clairmont in Amarillo, where she continued to love life and meeting new people.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Homer and Lee Richard; five sisters, Hazel Gamel, Edith Donaldson, Doris Newsom, Ava Corn and Alice Richardson.
Survivors include a son, Edwin Begert and wife Sue of Amarillo; a daughter, Linda Lieb and husband Dean of Pringle-Morse; five grandchildren, Carrie Franklin, Janice Mathews, James Lieb, John Lieb and Lori Sparks; 11 great-grandchildren; and stepchildren, Betty Dyson, Barbara Burgess, James May and families; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Crown of Texas Hospice Foundation for Hospice Care of the Southwest, 1301 S. Coulter Suite 404, Amarillo, TX 79106; or a favorite charity.
Billie Oxford Gaither
SPEARMAN - Billie Oxford Gaither, 85, died on Sunday, July 10, 2011.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at 10 a.m. in the Spearman Church of Christ with Larry McCollum officiating. Interment will be in Hansford Cemetery, under the direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.
Bill was born in Spearman on April 3, 1926, and was a life-long resident of Spearman. He married Georgie Lee Armbrister in the Spearman Church of Christ on April 28, 1953.
Bill was a maintenance operator for Junior Lusby Cats. He was a WWII Army Veteran, and always willing to help others.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgie Lee Gaither; two sons, David Lee Gaither, and Leland Marshall Gaither; a sister, Clydene Bolen; and a brother, Joe Gaither.
Survivors include one daughter, Angela Gaither of Arlington; one sister, Nina Hendricks of Spearman; and two brothers, John Gaither of Brownwood and Gene Gaither of Kingfisher, OK.

Charles David Shieldknight
SPEARMAN – Charles David Shieldknight, 61, passed away Monday, July 11, 2011 at BSA Hospital, Amarillo, Texas.
The son of Lois Marie (Buzzard) and Jimmy Lee Shieldknight, he was born September 20, 1949 in Perryton, Texas. He attended Spearman schools, graduating with the Class of 1968. He attended Southern Methodist University, where he lettered in football and served in the Army National Guard for 6 years, stationed in Fort Polk, Louisiana.
He returned to Spearman to manage the family businesses that included farming, cattle, and the oil and gas industry. He was currently the general manager of AGCO Spearman, Inc. Charles was active in the community, serving on the Spearman Scholarship Foundation, Top of Texas Rural Rail Transportation District and as a director at Spearman First National Bank. He had been active in the Spearman Economic Development Committee and served on the Hansford County Farm Service Agency Board.
Always encouraging and supporting the youth of the community, he had served on the Spearman ISD School Board for more than 12 years and was an avid Spearman Lynx and Lynxette fan both in academics, arts and athletics. He also supported AAU youth sports, TCY Football, Little League Baseball and the Spearman Stingrays swim team. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Charles was united in marriage to Sonya on September 4, 2000 in Panhandle, Texas. He enjoyed his grandchildren, golfing and traveling.
Survivors include his wife, Sonya Shieldknight of Spearman; his children, daughters, Carly Simmons and husband Clay of Austin,TX; Haley Shields and husband, Joel; Ashly Patterson and husband, Caleb; Macy Holton and husband, Jason; all of Spearman; Lori Klinke and husband, Alex of Amarillo, TX; and son, Jeff Millican and wife, Erika of The Colony, TX; two sisters, Marcia Shieldknight and Leann Gillaspie and husband, Dick; brother, Fred Shieldknight and wife, Brenda; all of Spearman; and his mother-in-law, Wanda “Grandma Pink” Beddingfield. He was adored “Pa” to his 16 grandchildren, Hannah, Lilly and Chaz Patterson, Dawson and Shelby Riethmayer, Brantly and Reece Shields; Jack and Emma Simmons, Conner and Tessa Holton, Kinslee and Wesley Millican, Rylee, Ashton and Brady Klinke.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lois and Jimmy Shieldknight.
Funeral services will be Friday afternoon, July 15th, 2:00 PM at the Spearman Church of Christ with Larry McCollum officiating. Interment will follow in Hansford Cemetery.

Jewell Eugenia Kenyon
Funeral services for Jewell Eugenia Brandt Kenyon, 86, of Portales, were at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 2, 2011 in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Michael Brunk officiating. Burial followed in the Portales Cemetery with Derrell Carter, Ryan Haun, Charles Mullins, Eric Kenyon, Gary Lucas and Danny Woodward serving as pallbearers. Members of Beta Sigma Phi and of the Roosevelt General Hospital Auxiliary will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Jewell Eugenia Kenyon was born March 17, 1925 in Spearman, TX to the home of Jewel and Fredrick W. Brandt, and died June 27, 2011 in Albuquerque, NM. After graduating from high school, Jewell attended West Texas State University in Canyon, TX where she graduated in 1946 with a degree in education. She taught for a year in Texas, before coming to Portales to teach in 1947. Soon after coming to Portales, she met W. G. “Bud” Kenyon, and they were married June 6, 1948 at the First Methodist Church. After her marriage, Jewell stayed at home to rear her children. When her son began high school in 1968, she returned to her teaching career and taught for 20 years.
While Jewell was in college, she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, and later served as an advisor for the chapter at ENMU. She was a longtime and very active member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, and also of the Roosevelt General Hospital Auxiliary. Jewell lived in Portales and was a well known and very loved member of the community. She lived a very joyful life that was filled with memories of friends and family.
She is survived by W. G. “Bud” Kenyon, her husband of more than 63 years of Portales; a son and daughter-in-law, Kim and Connie Kenyon of Powell, TN; a daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Charles Mullins of Albuquerque, NM; three grandchildren, Marla King of Albuquerque, NM, Chelsea (Ryan) Haun of Morristown, TN and Eric Kenyon of Powell, TN; and two great-grandchildren, Autumn King of Albuquerque, NM and Reagan Haun of Morristown, TN. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, William C. Brandt and a sister, Mary Jackson.

Gilbert M. Salgado
SPEARMAN - Gilbert M. Salgado, 64, died on Wednesday, June 29, 2011.
Funeral services were held on Friday, July 1, 2011 at 1 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spearman with Rev. Gregory Bunyan officiating. Interment was in Hansford Cemetery under the direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.
Gilbert was born in Stanton, TX on October 14, 1946. He married Ernestina Rodriguez on February 28, 1972. He worked for Baker and Taylor Drilling Co. for many years and for Hansford County Hospital District. He was a member of the V.F.W. He served in the American Infantry Division in Vietnam.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jose Salgado; and two brothers, Abelardo and Santiago Salgado.
Survivors include his wife, Ernestina Salgado of Spearman; three daughters, Olivia DeSantiago of Plano, Sonya Jensen of Katy, and Cristina Banaban of Melissa; his mother, Isadora Salgado of Stanton; three brothers, Frank Salgado of Spearman, Willie Salgado of San Antonio, and Joe Salgado of Greenwood; four sisters, Irma Porras and Linda Garcia, both of Odessa, Elodia Bravo of Stanton, and Mary Pena of Greenwood; and 7 grandchildren.

Charles Eugene Johnson
GRUVER - Charles Eugene Johnson of Gruver, Texas, died Friday, July 1, 2011.
Born on June 17, 1942, in Guymon, OK, the second son to William Lewis and Billie Joyce Walker Johnson, he was raised in the Oslo Community. Called “Gene” as a young child, he later became known as “Charlie.” He never married, but spent an interesting life traveling the world as a helicopter pilot, at one time as a civil instructor for U.S. Army pilots. He enjoyed telling stories about the 18 years he flew in Alaska for Era and Evergreen. In 1986 he and his brother, Chris, began the business Aeroflight Publications. Charlie’s special interest was in photography and in his last years he especially enjoyed photographing Gruver High School athletic events.
He is survived by his mother, Joyce Johnson of Oslo; his brother James Elton Johnson of Oslo and his wife Karen; his sister Eloise Hackett and her husband, Doug, of Greenville, Texas; his brother Eric of Gruver; and his brother Chris of Oslo. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Susan (Hackett) Runnels, Bob Hackett, Justin Johnson, Missy (Johnson) Cartwright, Lucas Johnson, Lisa Johnson and several grand-nephews and a niece.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Lewis Johnson.
The funeral celebrating the life of Charles Eugene Johnson was held Wednesday, July 6, 11 a.m. at the Oslo Lutheran Church with Pastor Arlen Lloyd officiating. Interment was in Oslo Cemetery.

Jessie Irene Faries
WAPPAPELLO, MO - Jessie Irene Faries, age 84, of Wappapello, MO passed away on June 23, 2011 at the Monticello House in Jackson, MO with her husband Daniel by her side.
She was born November 10, 1926 to Rufus David and Irene Angle Cook in Scopus, MO. She and John Daniel Faries were united in marriage 65 years ago on June 23, 1946.
Jessie and Daniel lived from 1958 until 1987 in Spearman, TX when she retired from the Spearman Public School District. They moved to Wappapello, MO in 1987 to enjoy their retirement. She was a member of the Faith Baptist Church and a 50-year member of the order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband Daniel of Wappapello, three sons Kenneth Wayne Faries, Burns, TN; Paul Lee Simpson and Kenneth Leon Simpson both of Wappapello; one daughter, Betty Jane Forriester of Wappapello; three brothers Bob Cook of Sedgewickville, MO; Rufus Cook Jr. of Tacoma, WA; Odell Cook of Fruitland, MO; one sister-in-law Margie Cook of Millersville, MO; ten grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son Gary Daniel Faries and one brother Paul Dean Cook.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 25, 2011 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill. Order of the Easter Star service will be at 7:00 PM.
Funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 PM at the Faith Baptist Church in Wappapello, MO with Pastor Don Estes and Pastor Dean Medlin officiating.
Burial will follow in the Wappapello Cemetery in Wappapello, MO.

Terry C. Vernon
McLEAN/SPEARMAN - Terry C. Vernon, 59, died Saturday, June 25, 2011.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, June 1, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church with Jimmy Green and Larry McCollum officiating. Services are under the direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.
Terry was born in Amarillo on February 15, 1952. He was a rancher and liked to restore and trade classic Chevrolet cars and trucks. He was a graduate of Greeley, CO High School.
Survivors include his companion, Lady Rita Crawford of McLean; a sister, Jan Vernon Sheets of Spearman; a brother, Eldon Vernon and his wife, Joan, of Oklahoma City, OK; Shaun Crawford and his wife, Amanda, Emory Crawford, and Caleb Crawford, all of Texhoma, TX; several nieces and nephews; and his dogs, C.C., Flash and Bubby.
He was preceded in death by his parents G.N. “Pete” & Ivan Vernon and a nephew John Banister.

Timothy Leon Evans Smith
AMARILLO - Timothy Leon Evans Smith, 52, of Amarillo died Thursday, June 23, 2011.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 1601 S. Georgia St., in Amarillo with the Rev. Clifton A. Mann and the Rev. Jo Roberts Mann and the Rev. Chris Wrampelmeier, Archdeacon, officiating. The graveside services will be at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Holt Cemetery south of Spearman by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Family and friends are invited to Holy Eucharist at 6 p.m. Sunday at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in the Children’s Chapel, 1601 S. Georgia St., Amarillo.
Tim was born June 14, 1959, in Amarillo to Anne Riley Evans and Ralph Leon Evans. Tim was adopted after Leon’s death by James F. Smith Jr.
Tim attended New Mexico Military Institute at Roswell and graduated from Tascosa High School in Amarillo. He had a bachelor of arts degree from Texas Christian University at Fort Worth and he also graduated from the Ranch Management School at TCU.
Tim was an independent petroleum landman. Later, he was involved in the gold and silver industry, investments and real estate.
Tim had a lifelong involvement with his Amarillo church, St. Andrew’s Episcopal. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and his college alumni associations. Tim’s passions were his family, his friends, his work, his devoted pet dog and his BMW motorcycles.
He was preceded in death by Ralph Leon Evans, Lola and M.C. Evans, Hollie and Earl Riley, Barton Riley, Robert Chandler Foster and Elizabeth Chandler Foster.
Survivors include his mother Anne Riley Northcutt and her husband Pat of Amarillo; his brother Tab Smith and his wife Sandy of Bellaire; his sister Jamie Anne Smith Stegman of Fly Creek, N.Y.; Parker, Marshall and Sloane Smith of Bellaire; August and Sydney Stegman of Fly Creek, N.Y.; James F. Smith Jr. of Dallas; Heidi Lancaster of Tulsa, Okla.; and Megan Martin of Denton.

Oran Bates
HARKER HEIGHTS, TX - Oran Bates, 81, of Harker Heights, Texas formerly of San Saba, Texas passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at Indian Creek Nursing Home in Harker Heights.
Oran was born on October 8, 1929 in San Saba to Doc Elbert Bates and Iva Lela Prickett Bates. Oran was a Laborer and was a member of the Baptist church.
Oran is survived by his wife Avis Bates of Harker Heights; sons Gregg Cooley of Harker Heights, Oran Bates Jr. and wife Allison of Dallas, Michael Bates and wife Missie of Spearman; daughters Laura Bates and husband Roger Hamrick of Blanket, Crystal Bates and husband Johnny Bocanegra of Harker Heights, Mary Bates of Eden, Betty Ramirez of San Angelo; grandchildren Reagan Johnson, Alyssa Hamrick, Roger Hamrick Jr., Breanna Lawson, Kenneth Lawson, and 18 other grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brother Jack Bates and wife Lillie of Deleon; several nieces and nephews. Oran was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Burl Bates, one sister, Gladys Bates.
Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Howell Doran Funeral Home with Rev. Sam Crosby officiating. Interment was at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Dennis O’Neil Randall
AMARILLO – Dennis O’Neil Randall, 47, died Wednesday June 8, 2011.
Graveside services were held Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Hansford Cemetery with Danny Hendricks and Melba Rook officiating. Interment was at Hansford Cemetery under the direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.
Dennis was born on September 27, 1963 in Perryton. He married Suzanne Simpkins on August 14, 2010 in Amarillo.
He was employed as a truck driver for JBS Carriers of Greeley, CO. He was a member of the Tascosa Fellowship Church of Amarillo.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dale Owen Randal.
Survivors include his wife, Suzanne Randall of Amarillo; two stepsons, Justin Hatch and Eric Ramirez, both of Amarillo; his mother, Pat Randall of Spearman; one sister, Kim Vera of Spearman; four brothers, Chris Randall of Dallas, Rocky Randall of Canadian, Tony Dean Lee of Arkansas and Ricky Dale Randall of Vici, OK; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Almeda “Dee” Haskin
Almeda "Dee" Haskin, 86, of Amarillo died Friday, June 3, 2011.
There are no services scheduled at this time. As per Dee's wishes, there was a private gathering at Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St.
Dee was born April 24, 1925, in Braman, Okla. She grew up in Wellington, Kan., where she lived until she moved to Gruver in 1969. Following the death of her husband, James "Buster" Haskin, she moved to Amarillo, where she has resided for many years.
Dee was an avid music lover and enjoyed playing the piano for her friends and family and especially for her grandchildren and great-grand daughter.
Dee enjoyed her home and especially spending her days in her later years visiting with friends, in her yard. She could often be found relaxing on her prized backyard swing with her dear companion, Tommy Ryan.
Survivors include two sons, Rex Hutchison and wife Jean of Davenport, Iowa, and Russell Johnson and wife Janice of Houston; a sister, Ruth Williams of Edmond, Okla.; five grandchildren, Michael Hutchison of Jacksonville, Fla., Megan and Ashley Johnson and Benjamin and Zachary Ridgeway, all of Houston; and three great-grandchildren, Alyssa Hall of Jacksonville, and TJ and Ayden Ridgway, of Houston. Dee also is survived by Tommy Ryan, her companion and caretaker for the last 25 years.
