AMARILLO - Norma Titus, 74, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with the Rev. Robert E. Field officiating. Burial will be in Stinnett Cemetery in Stinnett. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Mrs. Titus was born June 30, 1937, in Spearman to Hubert and Joyce Uptergrove. She was married to Donald Titus for 51 years. During that time, she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Titus; daughter-in-law, Shannon Titus; and her mother, Joyce Crum.
Survivors include a son, Gregg Titus of Amarillo; a daughter, Jana and son-in-law Mike Ketner of Montgomery, Ala.; five wonderful grandchildren, Stan Titus, Katie Titus and Caroline Titus, all of Amarillo, and Zachary Ketner and Matthew Ketner, both of Montgomery, Ala.; her father, Hubert Uptergrove of Big Spring; two brothers, Jim Uptergrove of Clarendon and Mike Uptergrove of Hermleigh; two sisters, Sharon Brooks of Sallisaw, Okla., and Linda West of Spearman; and many loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family suggests memorials be to American Heart Association, P.O. Box 841125, Dallas, TX 75284.

Claudia Cole
TEXHOMA, Okla. — Claudia Cole, 81, formerly of Texhoma, died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, in Oklahoma City.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church in Texhoma with the Rev. Winston Curtis, former pastor, officiating and the Rev. Tommy Hull, pastor, assisting. Arrangements are by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon.
Mrs. Cole was born Feb. 8, 1930, in Eola to Etta Mae Steadman Brown and Thomas Claude Brown. She married John Cole on Dec. 6, 1947, in Robert Lee.
Survivors include her husband; four daughters, Brownie Floyd of Granbury, Janetta Shores of Newcastle, Shirley Ham of Smyrna, S.C., and Maura Gruver of
Shalimar, Fla.; a son, John O. Cole Jr. of Texhoma; a sister, Eunice Laul of San Antonio; a brother, T.C. Brown Jr. of Sand Point, Idaho; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to Good Shepherd Hospice, 4250 Will Rogers Parkway, Suite 400, Oklahoma City, OK 73108.

Sonja E. Fourrier
AMARILLO - Sonja E. Fourrier, 72, of Amarillo died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Memorial Park Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Davis of Lifeway Fellowship Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40.
Ms. Fourrier was born April 13, 1939, in Spearman. She was a longtime resident of Amarillo. “A mother to many, a granny to all.”
Survivors include a son, Perry Fourrier; a daughter, Robin Mitchener; two brothers; three sisters; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Dave Oakes
AMARILLO - Dave Oakes, 53, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Washington Avenue Christian Church with the Rev. Jim Shelburne officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.
Dave was born Sept. 8, 1958, in Amarillo and graduated from Spearman High School before returning to Amarillo and living here for most of his life. He worked for Denman Building
Products for many years. For the last several years, he worked for Pro Wall.
In his spare time, he enjoyed golf and music. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. Dave attended Washington Avenue Christian Church.
Survivors include a son, Eric Oakes of Amarillo; his parents, Winnell and Doug Shaw and Jack and Melba Oakes, all of Amarillo; three sisters, Pam Forgette and husband Mark, Teresa Beasley and Jan Hassinger and husband Mark, all of Amarillo; two stepsisters, Stephanie Galindo and husband Luis of Schertz and Sherrill Frank and husband Kerry of Amarillo; and a grandson, Korbyn Oakes.

John Owen Dortch
BROWNFIELD - John Owen Dortch, 83, a former resident of Hasty, died Thursday, November 17, 2011, at the Broomfield Nursing Home in Broomfield, TX.
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 30 at the Bent County HealthCare Center with Gary Pritchard officiating. Private burial was in the Fort Lyon National Cemetery with Horber Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.
John was born Jan. 4, 1928, in Harley, Texas, to Mack D. and Lela (Boney) Dortch. He moved with his family to Morse in 1929. He graduated from Morse High School.
In 1945 he was drafted into the Army. He was stationed several places in the United States, ending up in Italy as World War II was ending. He served as a medic in the Army.
After being discharged, he married Marie Jewell Marie McBlain on April 25, 1949 in Borger. They were married for 58 years. They lived in Spearman for a few years before moving to Dallas. They moved to Caddoa, CO in 1959. He wanted to live in Colorado so he could hunt and fish, living right next to John Martin.
He was self-employed as a television, appliance and watch repairman. He did watch repair with Billy Brandt while in Spearman. John loved playing his banjo and guitar. He was a member of the Hasty Friends Church, and loved playing music in his church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marie; two sisters, Virgie Kelly and Billie Jean Robinson; and two brothers, Jack Dortch and Doyle Dortch.
He is survived by two sons, Johnny Dortch of Denver and Wayne Dortch of Victoria, Texas; two daughters, Christine Dortch of Denver and Ann (Peter) Loveridge of Steamboat Springs, CO; one brother, Tom Dortch; and one sister, Maxine Reiswig, both of Morse, TX; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
His advice for succeeding in life was to work hard and take what life gives you and make the most of it.

Ruby Lorene Robeson Riley
SPEARMAN - Ruby Lorene Riley, 91, died on Sunday, January 8, 2012 at Hansford Manor.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the Apostolic Faith Church with Pastor Jack Cornell officiating. Interment will be at Hansford Cemetery under the direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.
Ruby Lorene Robeson was born December 27, 1920 in Knox City, Texas, the third child of Ed and Minnie Alexander Robeson. Ruby moved to Forestburg, Texas with her family and lived there through her teenage years. James Henry Riley grew up about 8 miles south of Ruby in Greenwood, Texas. Ruby and James met on a blind date at the Baptist Church in Greenwood on New Years day, 1939. Ruby became a Christian while attending the Baptist Church there, and her faith in God became the most important factor in her life. Ruby and James were married almost a year later on Christmas Eve of 1939 in Greenwood at the home of James’ parents.
They lived in Greenwood until 1942 when they moved to Farnsworth, Texas, and they worked on area farms until 1964. They then moved to Spearman, Texas. Being accustomed to work, Ruby took a job in the school cafeteria where she worked until James suffered a massive stroke in 1977. Ruby cared for James until shortly before his death in 1999 when he became a resident of Hansford Manor.
After James’ death Ruby spent much of her time volunteering and visiting with the residents of Hansford Manor. She was also a certified hospice volunteer for Hansford Hospice. She continued this until she became a resident of the Manor on December 6, 2010. She was a member of the Apostolic Faith Church in Spearman.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, her husband James, her son Eddie, her son-in-law Frank Heinz, two grandsons, Ken Heinz and Jason Lasher.
She is survived by her sisters, Dollie Fullbright of Arlington, TX, Bonnie McNatt of Rule, TX, Helen Pierce of Old Glory, TX, daughters Betty and husband Tommy Davis of Beaver, OK, Pauline Heinz of Laverne, OK, Lois and husband Michael McCaskill of Las Vegas, NV, Callie and husband David Van Kleeck of Phoenix, AZ, and daughter-in-law Paula Riley of Homer, AK. Ruby is also survived by her grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
The family requests memorials be to Hansford Hospice, 707 S Roland Street, Spearman TX 79081.
Thomas Alber “Tommy” Taylor
Thomas Albert “Tommy” Taylor Tommy, age 79 of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away January 5, 2012 in Little Rock, Arkansas.
He was born in Spearman, Texas, to Jackson Robbins and Cleo Gill Taylor. He married DeLoris Maves in 1951 in Seattle, Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954, and upon his discharge, attended the University of Houston. He was then employed by IBM, and retired to Arkansas in 1986, after 30 years with the company. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and First Presbyterian Church in Heber Springs, Arkansas. During many of his retirement years, he volunteered for the Pine Snag rural fire department, serving several years as fire chief. He also collected and refurbished antique tractors.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years; sons Glenn Taylor of Toronto, Canada and Mark Taylor of Lakewood, Colorado; sister, Dora Kate Lee of Batesville, Arkansas and seven grandchildren.
A memorial Service in his memory will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Heber Springs, Arkansas on January 15, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. Arrangements are with Heber Springs Funeral Home. Please sign online guestbook at www.heberspringsfuneralhome.com.

Franklin Delano Gaines
HAMILTON – Franklin Delano Gaines died on Sunday, December 25, 2011 at Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka, Kansas, at the age of 77.
He was born on April 21, 1934 in Peabody, Kansas, the son of Robert W. and Freda L (Boling) Gaines. He was raised in the oil field camps of Butler and Greenwood Counties. While still very young, he determined that higher education would be his route to business success.
After graduating from Eureka High School, Frank continued his education via the financial aid he earned through football and academic scholarships. An Associate’s degree from Butler County Junior College led him on to graduate from Washburn University, and later to getting his law degree at Washburn and passing the Kansas Bar Exam.
His first business success was a young attorney who practiced law in Augusta. Frank served in the Kansas Legislature as a Representative for six years and a State Senator for twenty years. His many long and varied careers included working as an attorney, independent oil operator and drilling contractor, rancher, and banker. In 1983, Frank was united in marriage to Beverly Hertlein in Spearman, Texas.
Frank is survived by his wife, Beverly of Hamilton; sons, William and wife, Deana Gaines of Eureka; Shelby and wife, Alyson of Seattle, Washington; daughter, Betheny Winkler of Eureka; grandson, Sebastian Summers; brother Richard and wife, Betty Gaines of Spearman; and sister, Beverly and husband, Chuck Martin of Eureka. He was preceded in death by his son, Franklin Delano Gaines, Jr.; grandson, Jacob A Winkler; brother, Robert J. Gaines; and sister, Elizabeth Gaines.
Funeral services were at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, December 31, 2011 at Koup Family Funeral Home in Eureka with Pastor Mark Demas of the Hamilton United Methodist Church officiating. Interment followed in Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Hamilton United Methodist Church, the Greenwood County Historical Society, or Unite 2 Fight Paralysis.org. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.

Glen Mackie
SPEARMAN — Glen Mackie, 81, of Spearman died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Hansford Cemetery with the Rev. Brent Womble officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.
Mr. Mackie was born April 4, 1930, in Pampa. He was a graduate of Spearman High School and was all-district tackle in 1945. He was a farmer and rancher, and loved working with cattle.
He was preceded in death by Norma Jean Mackie.
Survivors include three daughters, Cathy McCoy and husband Mike of Perryton, Lynna Renner and husband Phillip and Michele Davis and husband Mike, all of Spearman; a son, Glen Ray Mackie and wife Laura of Spearman; a sister, Joan Roberts of Norman, Okla.; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be made to Hansford Manor, 707 S. Roland St., Spearman, TX 79081.

Mary B. Aguilar
BOISE CITY, Okla. — Mary B. Aguilar, 73, of Boise City died Friday, Dec. 16, 2011.
Rosary will said at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Cimarron Mortuary in Boise City. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Boise City with the Rev. Mike Wheelahan as celebrant. Burial will be in Boise City Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cimarron Mortuary of Boise City.
Mrs. Aguilar was born April 2, 1938, in Cuero, Texas, to Poncho and Katerina Barron. She married Manuel P. Aguilar in 1960 in Kenedy, Texas.
Survivors include five sons, Frank Barron of Yoakum, Texas, Ernest Cuellar of Cuero, Johnny Aguilar of Albuquerque, N.M., and Manuel Aguilar III and Mike B. Aguilar, both of Boise City; and five daughters, Maria Puebla of Spearman, Texas, and Margaret Gonzalez, Cynthia Barco, Teresa Puebla and Diana Baldonado, all of Boise City; 27 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
The family suggests memorials be to help with expenses, in care of the mortuary, Box 277, Boise City, OK 73933.

Lottie Edna Taylor Smith

SPEARMAN - Lottie Edna Taylor Smith, 79, died Thursday, December 1, 2011.

Memorial services were at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 4, 2011 at Hansford Manor in Spearman with Rev. Gary Smith, minister of the First Christian Church of Stratford, officiating. Arrangements were by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, 519 Evans St., in Spearman.

Mrs. Smith was born May 5, 1932, in Pender County, NC to Ruby Humphries and Isaac James Taylor. She was one of twelve children - Clayton Taylor, Robert Taylor, Pete Taylor, Paul Taylor, Bud Taylor, Charlie Taylor, Frank Taylor, Louise, Betty Ruth, Evelyn and Marie.

She married Jerry Sandlin Smith on December 23, 1949, in Halifax, VA. They lived in Magnolia, NC, moving to Dunn, NC in 1964. Mr. and Mrs. Smith owned and operated Jerry Smith Insurance and Realty in Dunn for several years. Mrs. Smith moved to Wilmington, NC in about 1999. She moved to Tennessee to be closer to her son, Al in 2004, and moved to Texas to be near her son, Gary, in 2006.

During her lifetime Lottie had many interests including Bingo, golf and duplicate bridge (Gold Life Master certification). She was very active in bridge clubs in North Carolina.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry, in 1994, a grandson, Jeremy Leon Smith, and her son, James Albert "Al" Smith, both in 2006. She was also preceded in death by her second husband, Donald Houser, in 2008.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Catherine Smith of Spearman, TX; a daughter-in-law, Charneal Smith of Riddleton, TN; six grandchildren, Jennifer and Dave McNulty of Sandwich, MA, Elizabeth Smith of Boston, MA, Heather and Dan Rountree of Hendersonville, TN, Kittrell Smith of Memphis, TN, Cameron Smith of Mexico, and Clayton Smith and his fiance Jill Hall, of Granbury, TX; a step-grandson, Stetson Holder of Hartsville, TN; and six great-grandchildren, Meghan and Katherine McNulty of Sandwich, MA, Logan Smith, Gavin Smith both of Lafayette, TN, Jackson Earps of Lebanon, TN, and Milo Hall of Granbury, TX. She is also survived by many special friends and caregivers at Hansford Manor in Spearman.
