FORT WORTH -- Edward A. Luke Sr., M.D., 85, a retired family practice physician, died Thursday, July 31, 1997, at home.
Memorial service: 11 a.m. Monday at St. Luke's in the Meadow Episcopal Church.

Edward A. Luke Sr., M.D., was born Aug. 2, 1911, in Louisiana. He graduated from the University of Illinois and earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois Medical School in 1937 and was a resident at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. He served as a major in World War II in the Army Air Forces in the Pacific. He entered private medical practice in Seattle, Wash., before moving his practice to Fort Worth in 1952.
He devoted his practice in east Fort Worth for the next 44 years to the many families he cared for, delivering hundreds of children who grew up in the Fort Worth area, before ending his medical career after 59 years in January 1996.
He was a charter member of the American Academy of Family Practitioners. He served on the board of the Longhorn Council, BSA, and was honored with the Silver Beaver Award for his dedicated service. He served on numerous other community and medical society boards. The Tarrant County Medical Society named their athletic trainers scholarship in his honor for the many nights he spent covering Fort Worth high school football games to care for injured youth.

FORT WORTH -- Allen Charlie Minshew, 69, a self-employed owner of Minshew Meat Co., died Friday, Aug. 1, 1997, in Fort Worth.
Funeral: 3:30 p.m. Monday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Burial: Greenwood Memorial Park.
Allen Minshew was born Sept. 26, 1927, in Dossville, Miss. He had been a Fort Worth resident since 1947. He started Minshew Meat Co. in 1962. He was a member of Faith Baptist Fellowship and was co-founder of the Castleberry Youth Association. He was also a member of Castleberry Lions Booster Club, River Oaks Jaycees and Aledo Lions Club. He contributed his life to working with youth in athletic programs and coaching.
He was preceded in death by his parents, E.L. and Effie Minshew.

EAST ELMHURST, N.Y. -- Nathaniel Montgomery, Sr., 80, who was a retired architect, died Sunday, July 27, 1997, in New York City.

Mr. Montgomery was born Feb. 5, 1917, in Fort Worth to Ben and Idella Griffin Montgomery.
He attended I. M. Terrell Elementary and graduated with the Class of 1933 at I. M. Terrell High School. He owned a hand lettering shop, and was active with Y.M.C.A. He was President of Texas Older Boys Conference at the age of 16. He was also a Navy veteran.

Theresa Marie Neil
WATAUGA -- Theresa Marie Neil, 35, a fifth-grade teacher at Glenview Elementary School, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 1997, at her home after a lengthy courageous battle with cancer.

Theresa marie Neil was a member and spokeswoman for the American Cancer Society Support Group and a volunteer at Reach to Recovery. She was the 1995-96 Teacher of the Year at Glenview Elementary School and was the recipient of the Spirit Award in 1996.
She graduated from Cooper High School in Abilene, attended Tarrant County Junior College and graduated from the University of North Texas.

Mr. Shirley was born in Venus on May 18, 1934, and was an area resident all his life. He attended Paschal High School. He retired from Owen Oil Tools, where he was a machine shop manager and on the engineering team. In 1995, he was honored by the oil industry with a Special Meritorious Award for Engineering Innovation from Petroleum Engineer International for designing the Spiral Strip Perforating Tool, a revelation in perforating equipment. He was a Master Mason, a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, and a Christian.
Jay loved the outdoors and hunting, and fishing and four-wheeling were his hobbies.
