Richard B. Young
IRVING -- Richard B. "Dick" Young, 75, died at his home Monday, July 28, 1997.

Richard B. Young, or Dick as he was known by all his friends, was born Oct. 9, 1921, in Dallas. He was a unique individual. He was a stickler for details, as many of his business associates would testify. Dick had a special sense about people and could size someone up after just one meeting.
Dick started his working career as a young lad in Oak Cliff, throwing papers for `The Dallas Morning News.' He entered the Navy and served his country during World War II. After leaving the Navy in 1945, Dick began his battery career in Dallas with Vitalic Battery Co. In October 1964 Dick formed Batteries Unlimited, Ind., and in 1975 acquired Red Diamond Battery Manufacturing.
Dick was a salesman's salesman. He drew the respect of his employees and competitors. Dick remarked on more than one occasion, "There are no bosses in my company." His door was always open to his employees. Every December, Dick met one on one with every employee. He thanked each employee for their efforts for that year and handed out profit-sharing certificates, bonus checks and service awards.
Dick served on the board of directors of both United National Bank of Dallas, which later merged into First City Bank of Dallas. He also served on the board of Metrocrest Medical Foundation and was honorary chairman of the fund-raisers. Dick also held membership in Battery Council International and Independent Battery Manufacturers Association.
Survivors: His wife, Carol Joan Young of Irving; children, Nancy Harte and her husband, Will, of San Antonio, Dee Wynne and her husband, James Y., of Kaufman and Richard R. Young and his wife, Beth, of Dallas; grandchildren, Todd and Fallon Wynne and Katherine, Kristen and Rich Young; stepchildren, Cynthia Smith, Resa Mallett, Stewart Mallett and Nichole Mallett; nine stepgrandchildren; and five great- grandchildren.

FORT WORTH -- John H. Bales, 93, a sales owner, died Tuesday, July 29, 1997, in Fort Worth.

John H. Bales was born July 22, 1904, in Manitou, Okla.
He had been a Texas resident since 1915 and graduated from high school in Burleson. He immediately went to work for Montgomery Ward & Co. with its auto supply department for 18 years. He also worked for Leonard Auto Supply for 18 years. He went into his own business, the John Bales Auto Supply on Commerce Street, until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Odessa "Ann" Bales, in October 1995.
Survivors: Sons, Bill Bales of Fort Worth and Bob Bales of Midland; stepsons, Gerald Andress of Mineral Wells and M.C. Helen Bonifert was born Dec. 20, 1913, in Sombor, Yugoslavia. A strong, well-spoken woman, she evoked respetct and admiration in those who knew her. She had a passion for life and a flair for beauty; these gifts revealed themselves in her paintings and in her award- winning flower gardens. A loving mother, wife and grandmother, she gave of herself daily, saying only how lucky she was to have such a loving family.
Helen was an active member in the St. Maria Goretti Leisure Club. She was always helping others, concerned that those who were less fortunate enjoy life's simple necessities.
She saw God in everything that is beautiful; she loved walking beneath the trees and mountains with her family.
Helen was originally from Chicago. She has family and friends still in the Chicago area.
