FORT WORTH -- Willard G. Carr, 69, a restaurant worker, died Monday, July 28, 1997, at home.

Graveside service: 3 p.m. Thursday in Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park.

Willard G. Carr was born July 18, 1928, in San Patricio County.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas E. Carr, and a sister, Mary Lee Riley.

Survivors: Brothers, Chrles L. Carr of Alton, N.H., and David M. Carr of Fort Worth; and sister, Doris E. Broadwell of Bedford.

Mattie Jo Compton
ARLINGTON -- Mattie Jo Compton, passed away Monday, July 28, 1997, in Arlington.

Funeral: 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Restland Funeral Home. The Rev. John Duke will officiate. Burial: Restland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mattie Jo Compton was born Aug. 16, 1906, in Tye. She retired from Neiman- Marcus after many years of service. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ray Taylor Compton, and daughter, Barbara Jones.

Survivors: Daughter, Joan Haywood, sisters, Marie Foote and Willa Lee Tinsley; four grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren.

Loyd H. Cooper
EULESS -- Loyd H. Cooper, 80, a retired grounds and building superintendent, died Monday, July 28, 1997, at a Bedford hospital.

Funeral: 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Mount Olivet Funeral Home. Burial: Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Memorials: a charity of choice.

Loyd H. Cooper was born Dec. 31, 1916, in Tolar. He was a member of Diamond Hill Baptist Church, where he was a deacon. Mr. Cooper worked "temporarily" for more than 331/2 years for American Airlines and was a member of the Three Diamond Club. His many loves were his church, family, gardening, bowling and traveling. He was affectionately known to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as "Daddy Boy."

Mr. Cooper was preceded in death by his first wife, Theo Marie Cooper, on May 6, 1986.

Survivors: Wife, Flora Juanita Cooper of Bedford; son and daughter-in-law, Gary L. and George Ann Cooper of St. Louis, Mo.; daughters and son-in-law, Mary B. Howell of Tulsa, Okla., and Linda C. and Bill G. McGinnis of Euless; sister, Floy J. Parish of Fort Worth; sisters-in-law, Annis E. Franklin and Marianne Stubbe, both of Watauga; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

John W. Cox
HALTOM CITY -- John W. Cox, 87, a farmer and rancher, died Sunday, July 27, 1997, in Fort Worth.

Graveside service: 10 a.m. Wednesday in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Eulogy will be given by Mr. Ray Stokes.

Memorials: charity of choice.

John W. Cox was born Nov. 1, 1909, in Fort Worth and for the greater part of his life made this area his home. He was the second youngest of five children. He was a graduate of North Side High School. He met Jo Catherine Gee here in Fort Worth and they married in 1939 in Blum, Texas.

Mr. Cox was a nephew of John and Lottie Mabee, founders of the J.E. & L.E. Mabee Foundation in Tulsa, Okla. He moved to the Mabee estate in 1964 and lived there several years to serve as executor of the large estate after their deaths. This association led him to become a philanthropist. He served as chairman of the board of the Mabee Foundation and most recently as a board member.

Mr. Cox was a farmer and rancher most of his life with farms and ranches in Wise, Jack and Denton counties.

He was a former member of the TCU Board of Trustees. He was a member of the Downtown Fort Worth Rotary Club and Krum United Methodist Church.

Survivors: Wife, Jo Cox of Haltom City; sister, Ruby Johnson of Lingleville; nephews, L.E. Cox of Santa Barbara, Calif., Gifford Lee Johnson of Lingleville, Calvin E. Johnson of Slidell and John Marvin Ross of Austin; and niece, Anne Staudy of Lingleville.

Doris M. Davis
SAGINAW -- Doris M. Davis, 73, a retired sales representative for Zales, died Monday, July 28, 1997, at a Fort Worth hospital.

Funeral: 1 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Burial: Greenwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials: in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be sent to the American Cancer Society.

Doris M. Davis was born June 30, 1924, in Masontown, Pa. She was a sales representative for Zales Jewelers and retired after 33 years of service. She was a resident of Saginaw for 33 years.

Survivors: Son, Larry Davis and his wife, Vicky, of Saginaw; daughters, Janis Hobbs and her husband, Doyle, of Springtown and Lynne Palmer and her husband, Gene, of Weatherford; brother, Lou Roberts of Stamford, Conn.; grandchildren, Dani Evans of Saginaw, Scott Hobbs of Springtown, Tracy Wiley of Weatherford and Dax Davis of Saginaw; great-grandchild, Ashton Hobbs of Springtown; and several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

F. Grace Gilley Davis
RIVER OAKS -- F. Grace Gilley Davis, "Mother Grace," 83, a homemaker, died Sunday, July 27, 1997, at a Fort Worth hospital.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Olivet Funeral Home. Burial: Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Pallbearers: David Gilley, Larry Gilley, Hal Gilley, Jimmy Davis, Anthony Davis, Jim Davis and Glenn Davis.

Memorials: Bethel Baptist Church.

F. Grace Gilley Davis, "Mother Grace," was born Oct. 11, 1913, in Azle, Texas. Mrs. Davis enjoyed a family heritage of two proud Texas pioneer families. Her parents were William Franklin and Mattie Gordon Daugherty Gilley. She lived in Azle until her marriage to Alfred Owen Davis on Nov. 26, 1945. Mr. Davis brought to his marriage three children who came to love her as and call her "Mother Grace." Mr. Davis retired from General Dynamics and died in 1982. Mrs. Davis had lived in River Oaks for 51 years. "Mother Grace" enjoyed a very dear friendship with Mr. Bill Elliott for 13 years until his death in 1995.

Mrs. Davis was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She also enjoyed memberships in Disabled American Veterans and the Order of Eastern Star.

"Mother Grace" was a lovely Christian lady who loved the Lord, her husband, children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She will be missed by all who knew her. "Mother Grace," when asked how she was doing, always responded with a smile, "Oh, fine, I'm doing just fine." Now that she has gone home to be with Jesus, truly she is doing just fine.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Irene Gilley Page; brother, Leslie E. Gilley; dear friend, Bill Elliott; and her husband, Alfred O. Davis.

Survivors: Son, Don Davis of Houston; daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and George Lomas Jr. of Fort Worth and Janette and Bruce Glaze Jr. of Colleyville; brother, Paul Gilley of Burleson; grandchildren, Michelle D. and Mark Fitch of Atlanta and California, Lisa and Charles Nicholls of Michigan and Illinois, Carey C. Hargrove of Arlington, Brian C. Hargrove of Colleyville and Jana and Kevin Ballentine of Fort Worth; great- grandchildren, Michael E. Nicholls, Katherine B. Nicholls and David Lee A. Nicholls; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Frank D. Doyle
GRANBURY -- Frank D. Doyle, 76, a chiropractor, died Sunday, July 27, 1997, at a Granbury hospital.

Funeral: 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Saginaw. Entombment: Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Dr. Frank Doyle was born July 1, 1921, in Fort Worth. He was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church of Granbury. He was a founding member of Diamond Oaks Country Club and was a member of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, where an achievement award was named in his honor; Texas Chiropractor Association; Pecan Plantation; and DeCordova Bend Country Club.

He was a resident of Fort Worth for 60 years and had resided in Granbury for 16 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, where he served as a torpedo bomber pilot aboard the USS Intrepid. He was a recipient of the nation's second highest honor, the Navy Cross. He practiced his profession in Fort Worth and Granbury for 49 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi; his parents; and a brother, Bobby Doyle.

Survivors: Daughter, Peggy Peek of Saginaw; brothers, Charles Doyle of Fort Worth and Raymond Doyle of Haltom City; grandson, Bryan Peek of Saginaw; granddaughter, Jill Stewart of Saginaw; great-grandchildren, Amy and Jamie Stewart; and several nieces and nephews.

WALNUT SPRINGS -- Thomas Freemon, 52, a truck driver, died Sunday, July 27, 1997, in Walnut Springs.

Graveside service: 11 a.m. Thursday in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park in Colleyville.

Thomas Freemon was born May 31, 1945, in Wichita Falls. He was a Baptist all his life.

Survivors: His wife of 33 years, Laura Freemon of Walnut Springs; daughters, Margaret Patterson and her husband, Michael, of Fort Worth and Angel Freemon of Walnut Springs; and five grandchildren.

Lillian M. Gifford
FORT WORTH -- Lillian M. Gifford, 85, a homemaker, died Monday, July 28, 1997, in White Settlement.

Lillian M. Gifford was born Oct. 2, 1911, in Limestone, Colo. She was preceded in death by her husband, George H. Gifford, in 1964.

Survivors: Son and daughter-in-law, William and Suzanne Gifford; grandsons, John Gifford and Brent Wilson, both of Fort Worth; granddaughter, Stacy Wilson of Fort Worth; numerous nieces and nephews; and many longtime friends.

Clyde B. Helzer
HALTOM CITY -- Clyde B. Helzer, 77, a cabinet maker, died Monday, July 28, 1997, at a Fort Worth hospital.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Thursday at Mount Olivet Funeral Home. Burial: Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Clyde B. Helzer was born June 17, 1920, in Harvard, Neb.

He was one of 13 children born to Henry C. and Molly Helzer. He grew up in Nebraska and served in the Army during World War II. It was during that time he met Kathleen Hughes. They married on Dec. 24, 1945. Mr. Helzer had been a resident of this area since 1947 and was a member of Birdville Church of Christ. He was a cabinet maker by trade for more than 37 years.

Survivors: Kathleen Helzer of Haltom City; son, Gary Helzer of North Richland Hills; daughters, Rita Powell of Colorado and Maureen Kite of Hurst; sisters, Lily Haberman of Hastings, Neb., Jean Sparks of Omaha, Neb., Ester Schneller of Holyoke, Colo., Ruth Cook of Pittsburg, Texas, May Baueman of Pasadena, Calif., Louella Alberding of Arcadia, Calif. and June Huber of Crafton, Neb.; and seven grandchildren.

Patsy Ruth Hollister
LEWISVILLE -- Patsy Ruth Hollister, 70, passed away Monday, July 28, 1997, at home.

Patsy Ruth Hollister was born Nov. 7, 1926, in Fort Worth to Levi and Ollie Lilly Gresham Montgomery. She married George Clinton Hollister in 1945 in Fort Worth. She worked for CAC in Keller before retiring.

Mrs. Hollister was preceded in death by her husband in 1982.

Survivors: Daughter, Norma Lynn and her husband, Carl, of Lewisville; two sisters, Dixie Henley of Fort Worth and Nellie Rice of Keller; two brothers, Frank Montgomery of Weatherford and Danny Montgomery of Fort Worth; two grandchildren, Dawn Romero of North Richland Hills and Arnie Lynn of Euless; four great-grandchildren, Alyssa Romero, David Romero, Chelle Romero and Patricia Romero, all of North Richland Hills; and seven nephews.
