Clayton L. Wallis
WEATHERFORD -- Clayton L. Wallis, 70, a prominent Parker County native, died Monday night, July 14, 1997, at a Weatherford hospital after suffering a long heart related illness.
Funeral: 1 p.m. Thursday, July 17, at Cotten-Bratton Funeral Home in Weatherford. Graveside service to follow in Annetta Cemetery in Annetta.
Memorials: American Heart Association, in lieu of flowers.
Clayton was born March 2, 1927, in Annetta, Texas, the only child of Nova and Clyde Wallis. They were lifelong residents of the Annetta community. Clayton's family had settled in the Annetta area in 1891 when his great- grandparents traveled here by train from Georgia.
Clayton's lifetime accomplishments were numerous; military service in World War II, careers in electronics field, an association with the Tandy Corp., cattleman, aggregate mining and related equipment, beloved husband, father and friend.
Clayton's marriage to Doris Faye Griffith in the early 1950s introduced Sarah, Mason and Portia into this fruitful life. They were a happy family of five until Doris's untimely death. Clayton children increased in number to six when he and Margaret married, adding Dana, Debra and Barbara, to make him a beloved father of six.
Following recovery from a debilitating stroke 21/2 years ago, Clayton and Margaret sought to fulfill some of his lifelong dreams. A trip to Georgia in September of 1996, where his ancestors had originated, led to the discovery of an unknown cousin, Eugene, resulting in a close and very important relationship between Clayton and Eugene and his family. An avid genealogy search brought Clayton together with another cousin, Jerry and his family in Grapevine, previously unknown to Clayton.
Clayton's enthusiasm for the music of Willie Nelson always filled family get- togethers. No meeting was complete without playing one or two of Willie's recordings. `How Great Thou Art' was Clayton's particular favorite. In memory of him, this recording will be played at his memorial service.
Clayton received much pleasure from his interests in family history and Willie, but his great joy was Bethany, age 2, just recently learning to say "Granddaddy."

Wallis, a native of Fort Worth; his son, Mason Wallis of Aledo; his daughters, Sarah McDonald of Annetta, Portia Flute of Benbrook, Dana Panter of Conroe, Debra Dunkerley of Houston and Barbara White of San Antonio; seven granddaughters; three grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.
