Elmer Edward Girdwood
ALVARADO -- Elmer Edward Girdwood, 87, a retired Mrs Baird's Bakeries department manager, died Tuesday, July 15, 1997, at a Keene nursing home.
Funeral: 10 a.m. Friday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Burial: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Elmer Edward Girdwood was born May 5, 1909, in Garden City. He worked for Mrs Baird's Bakeries for 42 years, retiring in 1974.
Mr. Girdwood was a member of First United Methodist Church of Alvarado and was a former member of Carter Park United Methodist Church. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a lifetime endowed member of Alvarado Masonic Lodge 314 AF&AM. He was past master of the Cooke Peavy Lodge 1162 AF&AM. He was a member of Chapter and Council and was a certified lifetime instructor of Masonry. Mr. Girdwood was awarded the Golden Trowel by Alvarado Lodge 314.
Survivors: Wife of 67 years, Onieta Margaret Girdwood of Keene, formerly of Alvarado; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Jack Gattis of Alvarado; granddaughters, Carla Jo Peikoff, Lana Kay Campbell and Lori Skjong-Nilsen; and six great-grandchildren.

Brenda Sue Horton
BURLESON -- Brenda Sue Horton, 56, a teacher, died Sunday, July 13, 1997, at a local hospital.
Funeral: 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Luke's in the Meadow Episcopal Church. Burial: Greenwood Memorial Park.

Brenda Horton was born Oct. 28, 1940, in Bonita. She was a dedicated daughter, wife, mother and friend. She knew the joy of giving. Brenda was very proud of her children and their accomplishments in life. She taught many wonderful lessons.
Brenda "Mom" will truly be missed by many. Her legacy will continue to live through her family. She meant the world to us. And we look forward to the day when we can come together again. She was an earth-bound angel.
Brenda earned her degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. She had been a schoolteacher for the past 25 years.

Amelia "Jane" Soboslay Jackson was born Jan. 13, 1899, in Cleveland, Ohio. She was a telephone operator in the Chicago Stockyards, a nurse and did charity work for many years. She worked with the blind, teaching them Braille. She was a first-generation American and her father started the first Catholic Slovak Ladies Association. She was a lady commander with Star of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. She was a charter member of St. Andrews Catholic Church and a member of Catholic Daughters, the Altar Society of St. Mary's and St. Andrews. She was also a member of the Woman's Club of Fort Worth and Physician Wives Auxiliary and was a charter member of Women of Rotary. She had also started St. Marys Garden Club.
She was the widow of Dr. A.E. Jackson, Fort Worth's first eye doctor.
Survivors: Brother, Raymond Soboslay of Cleveland, Ohio; cousin, Alma Shillinburg of Fort Worth; and nieces and nephews, including, Jacquelyn Canamar of Monterrey, Mexico, John Michael Vasil of Myrtle Creek, Ore., Raymond Vasil of Arlington, Mary Harmuth of Fort Worth, George Baskin of Arlington and Martin Baskin of Fort Worth.

RHOME -- John R. Jones, 77, died Tuesday, July 15, 1997, in Decatur.

John R. Jones was born Dec. 12, 1919, in Vinita, Okla. He married Carol Angel on March 19, 1944, in Yuma, Ariz. He served as a Merchant Marine during World War II. Mr. Jones was a retired parts store owner and was active in real estate. He was a member of First Christian Church in Rapid City, S.D.

FORT WORTH -- Wylma Mae Byars Kline, 76, a homemaker, died Wednesday, July 16, 1997, at home.

Wylma Mae Byars Kline was born May 10, 1921, in Wichita Falls.
She was a member of the Woman's Club and past president of the Creative Arts section, past president of the Fort Worth District Dental Auxiliary, past president of the Woman's Auxiliary to the Texas Dental Association, past president of the Rejebian Afternoon Book Review Club, and was past president of the Philathea Sunday school class. She was past secretary of Rico Pronto Investment Club and was a bridal hostess of Connell Baptist Church for several years. Mrs. Kline was also the director of the Young Woman's Auxiliary at Connell Baptist Church for 12 years and district director of YWA for three years. She was employed as a juvenile probation officer for Tarrant County for seven years (1946-1953). She graduated from Arlington Heights High School in 1939 and attended North Texas State University and Texas Christian University.
Mrs. Kline was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. J.R. Kline.
Survivors: Nieces, Barbara Zimmerman of California, Donna Divine of Lubbock and Charlotte Stephens of Denton; and nephews, Terry Byars of Fort Worth and Gary Warren of Austin.
