FORT WORTH -- Thomas Calvin West, 51, a truck driver and terminal manager, died Monday morning, July 7, 1997, at a local hospital.
Funeral: 10 a.m. Saturday at Gilliland- Watson Funeral Home in Hereford. Officiating will be Brother Austin Stewart of Beacon Hill Baptist Church in Mesquite. Burial: Hereford Cemetery. Visitation: Mr. West will lie in state after 10 a.m. Tuesday. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Robertson Mueller Harper.

Thomas Calvin West, a native of Glendale, Ariz., and a former resident of Hereford, was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Russell West, in 1989, and his stepfather, Billy Wayne Vanlandingham, in 1993. Mr. West served in the Navy from 1965 to 1970. His last commission was on the USS Currituck, the Navy's last seaplane tender. The flag draping his casket was the last to fly over that ship. As a truck driver for Steere Tank Lines Co., Tommy drove over 1 million miles without an accident or violation.

He was a motorcycle enthusiast who enjoyed both on-road and off-road riding.
