FORT WORTH -- James L. Holderness, 76, who retired as a building contractor and was self employed, died Thursday, July 3, 1997, at a Lancaster hospital.
Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Friday at Lucas Funeral Home on North Sylvania. Burial: Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

James L. Holderness was born July 10, 1920, in Fort Worth.
He was a former member of Sagamore Hill Baptist Church. He was a lifelong resident of Fort Worth. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps. He was a building contractor for 25 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Lou Holderness; his brother, Harry Holderness, who was killed in World War II; and his sister, Nancy Upstill.
Survivors: Sons, James Patrick Holderness and H. Brant Holderness, both of Langley, Okla.; daughter, Melissa Holderness Elmendorf of Fort Worth; brother, Bill Kyle Holderness of Glendale, Calif.; sister, Mary Jo Smith of Houston; seven grandchildren; and six great- grandchildren.

Lewis S. Hughes was born April 15, 1918, in Cleveland, Ohio.
He was a Mason and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. He was Past Master of his lodge. He served in the U.S. Cavalry in 1940 and was a veteran of World War II.

Velma Ivie was born Sept. 30, 1927, in Sunset, Texas. She completed her master's degree at UT in Arlington. She was a member of the Diamond Jubileers Square Dance Club of Grand Prairie, the Grand Squares of Granbury and Epworth United Methodist Church. She was a former substitute teacher at UTA, where she taught English.
Survivors: Husband of 44 years, Loy Magee Ivie of Arlington, married May 2, 1953; son, Donald Wayne Ivie; daughters, Rebecca Sue Ivie Dybvig and Cheryl Dianna Ivie Richey; brothers, Vernie Neece, Roy Neece and Charles Neece; 11 grandchildren; five great- grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

LAKE WORTH -- L.L. Jones, 88, a retired purchasing manager, died Monday, July 7, 1997, at a Fort Worth nursing home.

L.L. Jones was born April 20, 1909, in Eddy and had lived in the Fort Worth area since 1927. He started working for General Portland Cement Co., which is now known as the Laforge Corp., in 1927 and retired in 1972. He was known affectionately to his co-workers as "Doc." He was the safety chairman for many years. He served two terms as president and national director of the Purchasing Managers Association.
Mr. Jones was a member of Rockwood Assembly of God Church for 40 years, serving as a deacon. He also taught the teen-age boys' Sunday school class for 20 years. He organized the second Boy Scout troop for the north side area, being one of the largest in Fort Worth.
Survivors: His wife, Naomi Jones of Lake Worth; son, Allan Jones and his wife, Wynelle, of Lafayette, La.; daughter, Claudia L. Cushman and her husband, Tom, of Houston; brothers, George A. Jones of Friona, Ira D. Jones and his wife, Merle, of Dallas and Allen P. Jones and his wife, Marietta, of Amarillo; grandchildren, Candi L. Cushman of Dallas and Kyle Thomas Cushman of Houston; and numerous nephews and nieces.

William "Bill" D. Krommes
BEDFORD -- William "Bill" "Red" D. Krommes, 75, an estimator who retired from helicopter manufacturing, died Monday, July 7, 1997, at a Whitney hospital.

William Krommes was born March 20, 1922, in Hazleton, Pa. He was a resident of Fort Worth since 1948. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army Air Forces and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star and the Air Medal with three Oak Clusters.
He was a graduate of the Academy of Aeronautics in New York, N.Y. He was very active in scouting, taught Sunday school class, sang in the church choir, enjoyed bike riding, swimming, camping and fishing. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and the 388th Bomb Group. He retired from Bell Helicopter in 1984.
Survivors: Wife of 51 years, May Margaretta Hildebrand Krommes of Bedford; sons, John R. Floy Lawson was born Feb. 20, 1906, near Hamilton where she was raised and educated. She attended Tarleton State College and taught school in Hamilton County for several years. On May 14, 1927, she married C.T. "Sam" Lawson in Hamilton and moved to Meridian in 1929. She was preceded in death by her husband on Nov. 1, 1981. She was a member of Meridian First United Methodist Church.

D. Russell McSwain was born Sept. 16, 1932, in Ben Hill County, Ga., the son of Jessie Clifford McSwain and Maudell Wilson McSwain. He graduated from Rebecca High School and Georgia Tech and was an Army veteran. Mr. McSwain had lived in Fort Worth since 1960. He was an avid photographer and a member of the Fort Worth Camera Club and First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth.

Ada Ellison Parks was born Dec. 8, 1907, in Fort Worth. She moved to Annetta, in Parker County, where she grew up. She had resided in Fort Worth since 1942. She retired from Allee Manufacturing Co. as a seamstress, then worked several years at Tarrant County Children's Home. She was active as a senior citizen and also in the VFW Auxiliary, Veterans of World War I Auxiliary and the Methodist church. She loved quilting and working with her hands. She was preceded in death by two sons, Jasper Yeary and Lee Ellison.
Survivors: Son, Johnie Yeary of Weatherford; daughters, Mildred Hawkins of Weatherford, Malania Reynolds of Fort Worth and Sue Dunn Turnipseed of Azle; stepdaughter, Betty Acton of Fort Worth; brother, Johnie Duncan of Annetta; sister, Edith Harris of Fort Worth; 23 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great- great-grandchildren.
