Margaret Ann Shilling
ARLINGTON -- Margaret Ann Shilling, 56, a homemaker, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 29, 1997, in Arlington after courageously battling Lou Gehrig's disease for 21/2 years.

Memorial service: 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Pantego Bible Church. Burial: Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to the Margaret Shilling Scholarship, Tarrant County Junior College Scholarship Account No. 40357, 1500 Houston St., Fort Worth 76102, or Benevolence Fund, Grace Community Church, 807 W. Park Row, Arlington 76013.

Margaret Shilling was born Oct. 25, 1940, in Austin. She graduated from Polytechnic High School in 1958 and attended Texas Christian University. In 1960, she married Gordon Shilling and they moved to Arlington to begin their home, family and career. She had been a member of Pantego Bible Church since 1961. She worked as a church secretary, served in the nursery and was a leader in the Senior Adult Ministry where she enjoyed planning special events and field trips.

Margaret waited until her youngest child graduated from high school in 1991 before returning to college. In May of 1995, she received her degree as a Dietetic Technician from TCJC. She was looking forward to a promising future in Dietetics when she was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's Disease) and her health prevented her from pursuing those dreams. She was faithful to her family and friends. She was a true example of being a blessing to other people and giving of herself sacrificially. Her life was a living testimony of always thinking of others as being more important than herself. She was a devoted wife, mother and friend.

Survivors: Husband of 36 years, Gordon Shilling of Arlington; sons, Steve Shilling of Irving and Nathan Shilling of Houston; daughter, Lea Ann Shilling of Arlington; parents, Merle and Nell Bell of Fort Worth; sister, Patricia Brown of Granbury; brother, William Bell of Southlake; nephew, Aaron Brown of Lubbock; niece, Julie Lowe of Littlefield; and great-niece, Tatum Margaret Lowe.

Alma B. Massey Snowden
POOLVILLE -- Alma Beatrice Massey Snowden, 91, a homemaker, died Saturday, June 28, 1997, in Azle.

Funeral: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Gibtown Baptist Church. Burial: Gibtown Cemetery.

Alma Beatrice Massey Snowden was born Sept. 18, 1905, in Poolville and was a native of Parker County. She resided in Spearman for 18 years and returned to Parker County in 1965. She was a gardener and raised beautiful flowers and bountiful vegetable gardens. She was a member of the Gibtown Baptist Church for many years.

Survivors: Son, James Andrew Snowden of Poolville; two daughters, Mary Joy Robinson and husband, Terry of Perrin, and Clara Belle Foshee and husband, Doug of Alpine; brother, Mike Massey and wife, Cloe of Weatherford; three sisters, Ima Marshall of Lockhart, Trudy Edwards of Wheaton, Ill., and Sally Massey of Austin; three grandchildren, Suzanne Meredith of Hurst, Scott Andrew McGowan of Denver, Colo. and Joy Dawn Garcia of Taos, N.M.; and sister-in-law, Sue Massey of Weatherford.

Vivian Adams Sone

FORT WORTH -- Vivian Adams Sone, 89, the widow of Dr. Law Sone who was former president of Texas Wesleyan University, died Saturday, June 28, 1997, at a Fort Worth hospital.

Funeral: 10 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church. Burial: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Shannon-TCU Funeral Chapel.

Pallbearers: Jeffrey Sone, Patrick Sone, Bradley Sone, Stanley Sone, Ernest Elbert Jr. and Justin Hill.

Memorials: The Law and Vivian Sone Scholarship Fund at Texas Wesleyan College, 1201 Wesleyan Street, Fort Worth 76105.

Vivian Sone was born Aug. 22, 1907, in Springfield, Ill. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth, an honorary life member of the Woman's Club of Fort Worth, and a patroness of Sigma Alpha Iota. In addition, she was a former Alumna of the Year at Texas Wesleyan University and a member of the Women of Rotary.

Survivors: Sons, Dr. Law Sone, Jr. of Dallas and David Sone of Houston; daughter, Beverly Elbert of Fort Worth; nine grandchildren and 14 great- grandchildren.

J.E. (Jack) Thomas
LINGLEVILLE -- J.E. (Jack) Thomas, 78, a retired maintenance man for Burris-Cargil, died Saturday, June 28, 1997, at home.

Funeral:2 p.m. Monday at Lacy Funeral Home in Stephenville. Burial: Granbury Cemetery in Granbury.

Mr. Thomas was born July 18, 1918, in Elbert. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Thomas was a member of Lingleville Baptist Church.

Survivors: Wife, Georgia Bell Daniels Thomas of Lingleville; daughter, Jamie B. Adams of Lingleville; brother, Rosco L. Thomas of Stanton; three sisters, Flo Bones of Victorville, Calif., Mary Jones of Big Spring, and Emma Lee Bickley of Robert Lee; stepmother, Leona Thomas of Stanton; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Fredrick von Gonten
FORT WORTH -- Fredrick von Gonten, 90, a retired chief electrician, died Thursday, June 26, 1997, at a local nursing center.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Monday at Biggers Funeral Home. Burial: 2 p.m. Tuesday in Sapulpa Cemetery in Sapulpa, Okla.

Fredrick von Gonten was born Aug. 13, 1906, in Sapulpa.

He was a resident of Fort Worth since 1992 and retired from Oklahoma Gas and Electric in 1971 as chief electrician of the central division in Sapulpa. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Sapulpa and a former member of the Sapulpa Lions Club. He was an avid bowler and gardener.

Survivors: Son and daughter-in-law, Gerald D. "Jerry" and Rethal von Gonten, of Joplin, Mo.; sister, Elizabeth Piatt of Tulsa; brother, Louis von Gonten of Jersey Village, Texas; brother and sister-in-law, John and Mary von Gonten of Tulsa; nine grandchildren, 19 great- grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
