Leslie Douglas Biggs
Leslie Douglas Biggs, departed this life Thursday January 15, 2009. He was born December 3, 1927 to Molly Opal and Daniel Herman Biggs. He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II. He is preceded in death by his son Patrick Biggs and grandson Mitchell Lamb. He leaves behind his cherished wife Ellen Marie Northcutt of 48 years, son Mike Lamb and wife Kay, their child Marshall Lamb, son Kelly Lamb and wife Tina, their children Lupe, Luisa, Luis, Rocio, and Juan Lamb, brother Max Biggs and wife Charlene.
Visitation will be held Sunday January 18, 2009 from 4-8 p.m. at Paul U. Lee La Porte Funeral Home. Services will be held Monday January 19, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with interment following at La Porte Cemetery.

Lieuvenia Berry, 66, of Baytown was born January 7, 1943 in Huntsville and passed away Friday, January 16, 2009 in a local healthcare facility after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church and worked at the Foley’s fragrance and cosmetic counter for over 17 years where she developed many friendships with her customers, many of whom always asked for her. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Fidellis Barnett and sister, Ruth Morgan. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Gina Berry and daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon Balke and Wayne Morton and Karen and Gary Martin, all of Baytown; sisters and brothers-in-law, Beulah and Scott Newport and Shirley and Sherrod Hedley, all of Carlisle; brothers and sisters-in-law, Buddy and Carol Barnett and Joe and Rose Barnett, all of Carlisle and Clayton and Pearl Barnett of Highlands; grandchildren, Brooklyn and Kristen Balke, Logan Berry, Mariah Pool and Dalton and Emily Berry; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Sunday from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Monday, January 19, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home with her nephew Luke Morgan and Rev. John Satherley officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Dr. Gerald L. Smith
Graveside services for Dr. Gerald L. Smith age 83 of Henderson will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 16, 2009 at Strong cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral of Henderson with Rev. Ricky Ricks officiating. Jerry died Wednesday, January 14, 2009. He was born May 25, 1925 in Oklahoma and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Henderson where he was a member of the Pals class. Jerry was in the Army Air Corp during WWII and after completing his service he became a pharmacist advancing to dental school where he became an orthodontist. He retired in 1982 in Baytown where he sold his practice. After retiring for only a short period of time he moved to San Antonio where he joined a dental clinic as an orthodontist and retired for the second and final time after 18 years. He is preceded in death by his parents Fanny & Garret Smith, brother Eugene C. “Cotton” Smith, and daughter Cecilia Ann Hellstrom. He is survived by his wife Gloria Smith, five Children: Geraldine (Jerri) Shelton and husband Sam. Gerald Leon Smith II and wife Nancy. Beverly Rowe and husband Andy. Two stepchildren Tony Smith and wife Barbara and Teddi Smith. He was blessed with seventeen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and two nieces. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 at the funeral home. Family will be his pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Hospice of East Texas or the Alzheimer’s Association.
Cleon E. Easley
Cleon E. Easley, loving husband, devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, January 14th. He was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, on December 23, 1922. After graduating from LSU with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1943, he went to work for Humble Oil and Refining Company in Baytown. Soon after, Cleon resigned to serve in the U.S. Navy during WW II and was a Chief Engineering Officer for LSMR (Landing Ship Medium Rocket). After the war, Cleon went back to work for Humble Oil. On April 23, 1949, he married Mary Teresa Carlson. In 1965, he moved his family to Brussels, Belgium where he was Project Manager of a research facility being built there, returning to Baytown in 1968. In 1979 he was transferred to Benicia, California, as Operations Manager, and then returned to Baytown in 1983 where he was Mechanical Superintendent until his retirement in 1985, after a career spanning 40 years.
Cleon was always active in many community activities. He was President of Home & School at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Scout Master, President of Baytown West Little League (during which time he helped build the original West Little League Park), served on the Texas Equalization board for school districts, was City Campaign Chairman for the United Way, a 50+ year member of Kiwanis Club of Baytown, a Registered Professional Engineer and lifetime member of Texas Society of Professional Engineers, President of Lakewood Civic Association, President of East Harris County Serra Club, finance member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
He will be remembered as a family man of few words who led by example and had a strong faith in God. He was known, affectionately to all by his nickname “Big Cat”, and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with family and friends at the Big Cat Ranch he now leaves behind in west Texas. We will always remember his motto concerning the ranch and life in general of “leaving things better than you found it”. Dad: you have left this world better than you found it.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Mary Teresa Easley, who passed away in November of 2008, and who he now joins in Heaven. He is survived by his son, Ed and daughter-in-law, Connie, of Gig Harbor, Washington; his daughter, Carol and son-in-law, Gary Brown, of Baytown; his son, Bob and daughter-in-law Carolyn, of Lindsborg, Kansas; his daughter, Jane, of League City; his son, Paul and daughter-in-law, Betty, of San Antonio; his son, Mike and daughter-in-law, Sasha, of Baytown. He leaves behind 16 grandchildren, Brian Blumn, Benjamin and Chris Brown, Chanda Winandy; Amie Elrod, Brandon, Nicholas, Nicole, Jonathan, Laura, Michael, Doug, David, Daniel, Michael, Olivia and Alexandra Easley; 6 great grandchildren, Maverick Blumn, Colton Easley, Kiara and Tanner Elrod, Clayton and Coleton Winandy. He is also survived by his brother, Bob, of Torrance, California, and sister, LenaMae Oustalet, of Jennings, La.

There will be a Vigil Rosary at Crespo & Jirrels Funeral Home on Sunday, January 18, at 4:00 p.m., followed by visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, January 19, 2009, 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 800 W. Baker Rd in Baytown with Rev. William A. Oliver and Msgr. Fred O’Connor con-celebrating. Honoring their grandfather as pallbearers will be Doug, David, Daniel, Michael, Nick, and Brandon Easley. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a scholarship has been established in Cleon’s name. Sybil Faye Hagedorn
Sybil Faye Hagedorn, 83, of Baytown, formerly of Ashland, Kentucky went to live with the heavenly Father on January 14, 2009 after a battle with COPD. She passed away quietly at Green Acres of Baytown. Sybil was born on April 6, 1925 in Ashland, Kentucky to Nellie Queen and Hansford Stollings. Sybil only completed the eighth grade of school, but still managed several achievements and accomplishments throughout her life.
During WW II, Sybil worked for Wright’s operating a drill press manufacturing parts for airplanes. She received her real estate license in 1956, and went to work for Ann Gardener Real Estate until 1963 when she joined Arand Real Estate. She worked there until 1968. Sybil also received a Certified Nursing Assistant certificate by correspondence, and later worked for a local nursing home. Sybil also led the Girl’s Auxiliary for Pisgah Heights Baptist Church. In 1967, Sybil began working for the Union Township School District, as a cafeteria cook at Lakota High School then Hopewell Elementary School, until her retirement in September 1970. She will be remembered for her love of coffee, chocolate, anything sweet and Johnny Cash albums.
Her husband, Clifford; parents; granddaughter, Jamie Hagedorn; brothers, Bernard and William Stollings and sister, Mae Weaver, preceded Sybil in death.
She is survived by her son Gerald C. Hagedorn and daughter Cheryl McDonald and husband Patrick all of Baytown; brother Raymond Stollings and wife Genevieve of Ashland, Kentucky; sisters Ruby Lundy of Proctorville, Ohio; Mary Bradley and husband Alfred; Trecia Snyder and husband Harry of Ashland, Kentucky; and Gloria Belcher of Dayton, Ohio; grandchildren Angela Loving and husband Colely of Matthews, North Carolina, Deanna Sandy and husband Keith of Jefferson, Georgia; Amanda Majeed and husband Kamran, Tiffany Connealy and husband Ben, and Joshua Powers all of Baytown and Ashley Stanley and husband Allen of Houston; great-grandchildren Reagan Sandy and Noah Loving; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, January 16, 2009, from 6-9 PM, with the funeral to be held on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 2 PM, at Earthman Funeral Home, 3919 Garth Road, Baytown, Tx, with Lester Guidry officiating. There will be a private burial for family on Monday, January 19, 2009 at 2 PM at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio.
