Ruth later moved to Frost, Texas, and on March 22, 1948, entered into holy matrimony with the late Owen Crowder Jr. To this union, eight children were nurtured in the Christian faith. Throughout their 32 years of marriage, she was a devoted wife and mother.
Moving to Fort Worth in the early 1950s, she was known as "Mrs. Ruth" by the many who considered her the neighborhood mom. It was a special joy of hers to care for many children in her home, who became part of her extended family.
After the family united with Benson Chapel CME Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. S. Norris, Ruth immediately became a member of the choir as a lead singer. This was her most cherished gift to the church; her singing was powerfully encouraged by the Rev. Ruth Holiday and proved a blessing to many.
In addition, she held several other offices in the life of the church: Missionary president, Senior Choir president and church secretary. Frequently serving as a delegate to the Sunday school convention and the Leadership Training School at Texas College in Tyler, Ruth was grateful for the support of people like Mrs. Eva King, who offered her spiritual encouragement. She received special recognition from the church as the Blessed Senior Citizen in 1995. In 1996, she was awarded the Certificate of Service, which recognized her many years of faithful service in the name of Christ. Ruth Helen was also a member of the Grand Court Order of Calanthe of Texas.
