John T. Shamblin Jr.
FORT WORTH -- John T. Shamblin Jr., 67, passed away Sunday, June 22, 1997, in Fort Worth.

Memorial service: private. Celebration of life: pending.

Honorary pallbearers: John Brauer of Elmhurst, Ill.; Bo Gibbs of Quanah; Ken May of Hamilton; Winston Cox of Portales, N.M.; Bill Dickerson of Oklahoma City, Okla.; Lonnie Noble of Paradise; Jim Jester of Greensboro, N.C.; and Paul Gudat of Hudson Oaks.

John T. Shamblin Jr. was born to Damie Elnora Reedy and John T. Shamblin Sr. on July 25, 1929, in Dallas. When he was 9, the family moved to Austin, where he graduated from Austin High School in January 1947. After matriculating at the university that fall, he enlisted in the Army and served one year at Fort Hood. After rejoining civilian life, he was recalled to active duty with the 780th Field Artillery Battalion and served in Korea until November 1951.

In March 1953, he and Ms. Carlos Fay Hackfeld were married in McGregor. In 1954, he resumed his education at SMU and graduated in 1959. Jan. 30, 1961, saw the birth of James Michael Shamblin.

His working career consisted of Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., the Talley Corp. and Evans Press and its successors. He retired in 1992.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Kenneth David Shamblin.

Survivors: His mother, 94 years; his wife; a son; a 2-year-old grandson, Cody Ty Shamblin of Nolan; brother, Dr. H. Wayne Shamblin and his family of Mesquite; and sister, Julie Johnson of Las Vegas, Nev.

SANTO -- Edna Mammie Sides, 98, a homemaker, died Monday, June 23, 1997, at a Mineral Wells hospital.

Funeral: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Dobbs Valley Baptist Church in Palo Pinto County. Burial: Dobbs Valley Cemetery.

Edna Mammie Sides was born Sept. 22, 1898, in Palo Pinto County and was a member of Dobbs Valley Baptist Church.

Survivors: Daughters, Adera Bradley of Wichita Falls, Ella Joy Hendricks of Santo and Mammie George Sides of Mineral Wells; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; eight great-great- grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

Louise Southerlan
BURLESON -- Louise Southerlan, 86, a homemaker, died Tuesday, June 24, 1997, at a local hospital.

Graveside service: 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park.

Louise Southerlan was born Oct. 2, 1910, in Bowie. She was a member of Handley United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin H. Southerlan, and her son, Robert E. Southerlan.

Survivors: Daughter, Ellen Adair of Cleburne; sister, Margaret Clark of Burleson; two granddaughters; three great- grandsons; and one great-great- granddaughter.

William E. Stegall Sr.
FORT WORTH -- William Edward Stegall Sr., 80, a retired Southwestern Bell repairman, died Monday, June 23, 1997, in Fort Worth.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Shannon North Funeral Chapel. Burial: Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Richard Emerson, Chris Vardy, Paul Vess, Rondy Frank, Steve O'Brien and Terry Hasteiter.

William Edward Stegall Sr. was born Feb. 9, 1917, in Abilene to W.E. and Iva Julian Davis Stegall. He was a longtime resident of Fort Worth and a member of Rosen Heights Baptist Church. Mr. Stegall graduated from North Side High School and retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Co.

Survivors: Wife of 60 years, Wanda Jane Stegall of Fort Worth; daughter, Carol Jean Blais of Fort Worth; son, William Edward Stegall Jr. of The Woodlands; grandchildren, Mark, Mike and Jay Cushman of Fort Worth, Trena Burden of Honolulu, Cary Stegall of New York City and Cindy Beck of Baton Rouge, La.; and eight great- grandchildren.

John White was born Dec. 25, 1912, in Fall Creek community, Hood County. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He retired from the Granbury Independent School District on his 80th birthday.

Survivors: Daughters, Viola Avery and Lonada Jane Freeman, both of Granbury; sister, Mildred Ruth of Weatherford; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great- grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
