Julia M. Hardy
Julia M. Hardy, 106, oldest resident of Barrett Station, passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2008 at Green Acres Center of Baytown. She was born on December 25, 1901 to Moses McKinney and Dora Cooper.
On March 28, 1923, a son, the late Rev. Charlie Bass, Sr. was born to Julia M Kinney. In 1934, she was united in holy matrimony to Joe Hardy. One son was born to this union, Joseph "Money" Hardy.
Julia was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and was the first choir President. Later she moved her membership to help form First Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Ernest F. Brown. At First Missionary Baptist Church, Julia was a dedicated Deaconess and choir member where often choir rehearsals were held at her home. After her health fell, while residing at Green Acres she was under the spiritual leadership of
Rev. Tommy Johnson. She was a lifetime member of the Pride of Crosby Order of Eastern Stars Chapter No. 30. She opened her doors to provide room and board to out of town educators at Charles R. Drew School. She was known for her famous Sunday dinners which the pastors, family and friends enjoyed every Sunday. She was also Band Mother which all members enjoyed meals she prepared regularly.
Julia is preceded in death by her parents, Moses and Dora McKinney; husband, Joe Hardy; son, Rev. Charlie Bass, Sr.; daughter-in-law, Gladys Bass; brothers, Pete and Abraham (Sampson) McKinney; sister, Josephine McKinney; grandson, Michael Anthony Bass; great grandson, Roshaad A. Mayweather.
She is survived by her son, Joseph Hardy (Florence); grandchildren, Patricia Bass-Tillotson (Charlie); Gloria Brown (Gerald Knapp); Linda Bass; Diana Bass-Alfred (Terry, Sr.); Charlie Bass, Jr. (Darlene); Kirk Bass (Lenora); Karl Bass (Beverly); Allen Bass; Keri Bass-Joseph; Kevin Bass (Patricia); Kathy Bass; one daughter-in-law, Dorothy Mae Bass; 27 great grandchildren; 29 great-great grandchildren and 4 Step-grandchildren; two godchildren, Ethel Mae Carter and Donald Miller; a host of nieces, nephews and loving friends; a Very Special Friend, Myrtle Armstrong.

Judge Henry G. Schuble
Judge Henry G. Schuble joined His Lord & Saviour, Jesus on December 21, 2008 at home with his beloved family. Judge was born August 19, 1932 to Henry “Heine” G. Schuble, Jr, professional baseball player for the Detroit Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals from 1929 -1936 and Agnes Archibald Shaw, a model. Judge Schuble graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown, Texas in 1950 with his good friend Tom Stolhandske. He received his BA from Baylor University in 1954. He then joined the United States Army and served as a Security Investigator in the 39th Battalion from 1954-1956. After the army, Judge entered law school, receiving his Juris-doctorate from Baylor University in 1959. His first job as an attorney was as City Attorney of South Houston, Texas, 1960 - 1962. He served as an Associate Probate Judge for Judge Jack Smith from 1965 - 1967 an Assistant to the Mayor of Pasadena, Texas from 1966 -1968. He was in private practice in Pasadena, Texas from 1968 - 1977, specializing in family & probate law until he was appointed by Governor Dolph Briscoe to the newly created 245th Judicial District Court of Harris County, Texas where he served from 1977 to 1994. Judge was never defeated in an election. Judge retired from Harris County in 1994 and began sitting as a visiting judge in the IV Judicial Region of the State of Texas. Judge also served as a Mediator in Bexar and the surrounding counties and enjoyed mediating for his many wonderful attorney friends. Judge was proud to have a 96% mediation settlement rate. He was voted Best Qualified Assigned Judge in 2002 by the Nueces County Bar Association. He was the second most assigned judge in the state of Texas from 1995-1998 and wondered why he wasn’t first! He served as judge in 37 counties in Texas. Judge tried thirty jury trials in Bexar County in 1997 and two capital murder cases and was affirmed on both. He signed over 20, 000 judgments in the Bexar County Court at Law Auxiliary Court. Judge passed down his love of the law to his three children; two became attorneys and the other went into law enforcement. Judge was also proud to be a Mason and Past Master of the South Houston Masonic Lodge.
Judge Schuble was an avid outdoors man who enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends. He took great joy in the Brittany and Pointer breeding program and the training of his many bird dogs. The Judge and his life-long friend and hunting partner, Bob Stevens, hunted quail and dove together for over 35 years, both thriving on the comradery and the quest. Judge loved to regale his family and friends with his hunting exploits especially bragging about his bird dogs. He hunted throughout North and South America and always looked forward to his next hunting adventure. On behalf of Judge Schuble, his family would like to thank all his hunting and fishing buddies, whom he loved dearly, as well as fellow Judges and Attorneys who were such an important part of his life and gave him such joy. Judge is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth “Betsy” Schuble, and daughter, Kim Schuble Stephens of McCoy, Texas; son, Kevin John Schuble and his fiancé Stacey Schwank of San Antonio, Texas; son Henry G. Schuble, IV and his wife Lisa Schuble of Lake Jackson, Texas; and four grandsons, Chance and Sterling Stephens and Henry G. and Billy Dee Schuble; his beloved sister-in-law Diana Jane Franklin and her husband, Marc Franklin of Los Angeles, California. Thomas M. “Tommy” Massengale
Thomas M. “Tommy” Massengale, 48, beloved son, grandson, brother and uncle, of Montreal, Canada, formerly, Baytown was born December 2, 1960 in Baytown and passed away Monday, December 22, 2008 in a San Antonio hospital. He was self employed in the import/export business, which afforded him the opportunity to travel the world, which he loved doing.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Priscilla Massengale; brother, James “Bubba” Massengale; and grandfather, V. O. Williams. Crystal Benitez Anderson
Crystal Benitez Anderson, 29, resident of Old River Winfree, TX, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 23, 2008. She lived in Baytown 17 years. Born on December 29, 1978 in Pasadena, Texas, to Abel Benitez and Patricia Sanchez Perez, Crystal worked part-time for Barbers Hill ISD in food service, also served in Gods Girls at Maranatha Church providing snacks and teaching. Our precious daughter, a Gem in the Rough with your beautiful green eyes and awesome Spirit, For those who didn't know the Real You. We have always Loved You unconditionally, no matter what. Our Hearts desire was to care for you and your two Angels, always. This seems so untimely for you to go to Jesus, but God’s timing is perfect and you have received your ultimate healing, ultimate peace. We will miss you terribly, always love you and never forget your Gorgeous Smile; Dad, Shayne and Ryan.
She is preceded in death by her maternal Grandparents Henry and Angelica Sanchez and Aunt Christina Cisneros. Crystal is survived by her loving children Tristan Bryan Anderson, 8 yrs old and Angelica Rachelle Anderson, 7 yrs old; Parents, Abel and Shayne Benitez of Old River Winfree, TX.; Pat and Joe Perez of Deer Park TX.; (father of children) Chris Anderson of Baytown TX.; Brother, Ryan Christopher Deville and wife Esra of Old River, Winfree TX. Ethel Murphy Burnett
Ethel Murphy Burnett, 88, of Baytown, passed away at her home on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008. She loved her family and she enjoyed traveling to various places all over the country. She truly loved life. She was a lifetime member of Cedar Bayou Methodist Church and longtime nurse.
She is preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph E. Murphy, Jr. and siblings, Buddy Donnelly, Charles Donnelly, Roy Donnelly and Louise Dittman.
She is survived by her husband, Roy Burnett; children, Pat Murphy and wife Fran, Mike Murphy and wife Patsy, Cheryl Tanner and husband Jack and Kathy Blythe and husband Michael; 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Friday, Dec. 26, 2008, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Cedar Bayou Methodist Church, 2714 Ferry Rd., Baytown.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 26, 2008, at 4 p.m., at the Chapel of Cedar Bayou Methodist Church, with Andrea Metzger officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mister Murphy, Cash Murphy, Rob Murphy, Mike Murphy, Jr., Joseph Murphy, Gary Murphy, David Tanner and Junior Baumbach.

John Daniel Cooke
John Daniel Cooke, 73, of Dayton, Texas passed away Saturday, December 20, 2008. He was born to the late Rev. Robert R. and Ella (Carter) Cooke on August 10, 1935 in McArthur, West Virginia.
John had a passion for cars, listening to music, and taking pictures. He was a loving, opinionated and spiritual man that loved talking with and spending time with his friends and family. He retired from the Air Liquide Bay Port Plant in LaPorte Tx.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Phillip Cooke; and sister, Elizabeth Cobb. He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Betty Lou Cooke; son, James Thomas and wife Shannon of Baytown; daughters, Deborah Goodman of Baytown, Regina Quesenberry and husband Steve of Virginia, and Tamara Langebeck of Virginia; sisters, Agnus C. and husband Bert Miller, Mildred Ann and husband Danny Palmer, Ruby C. Regansburg, Rev. Ruth C. Carneal, and Rachael Cooke; brothers, Paul M.. and wife Daisy Cooke and Nathaniel Cooke; brother and sister in law Doug and Margie Crawley and brother in law Wilbert Weckwerth; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and numerous more nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Edward Louis Mohan
In the city of Barbers Hill (Mt. Belvieu), Texas a son was born to Vernon Mohan and Alma Dalcour on Friday, September 11, 1942 whom they named Edward Louis Mohan. It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Edward Louis Mohan. Ed or “Mo” as he was called by his close friends was first a son, a brother, a father, an uncle, a friend. He grew up in Baytown and La Porte, Texas. He graduated from George Washington Carver High School in Baytown, Texas where he also participated in sports, acting, music and band. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. During this time he received many awards and recognitions including selection as a member of the special United States Armed Forces Bicen-tennial Band. As a musician, he played for world leaders, celebrities, family, friends and the general public. He performed in all fifty states as well as in numerous countries around the world. He always identified with the common man and never forgot his roots or his mother’s teachings. He retired from the Air Force after 22 years of service and spent his retirement with family and friends.
Edward Louis Mohan, 66, born Friday, September 11, 1942, went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ and his mother on Saturday, December 20, 2008 while in the company of his golfing friends, whom he loved.
He was preceded in death by his mother – Alma Dalcour Robinson and his father – Vernon Mohan and his aunt – Clara Dalcour Johnson.
He is survived by his wife – Linda Edelin Mohan; son – Edward Mohan, II; son – Eric Mohan; daughter – Evette Mohan; daughter – Erin Mohan; daughter- Esha Mohan and her children Julia Heather Marino and Ava Hernandez; brother – Robert Dalcour and wife Dorothy Dalcour and children Robbie Dalcour August, Wanda Dalcour, Demetria Dalcour; brother – Alfred Ricks, Jr. and wife Carla Ricks and children Leslie Ricks, Kolbe Ricks, Alfred Benjamin Ricks; sister – Charlynn Heath and husband Ulysses Rosemond and children Phillip Gay, Stephen Rosemond; aunt – Mary Farris and her son Emmitt Farris; uncle – Paul Dalcour and wife Hattie Dalcour and children Paulette Robinson, Jerry Dalcour; cousins – (the children of Clara Dalcour Johnson) – Helen Thomas, Bobbie Hamilton, Elsie Eames, Gladys Williams, R.E. President; father and mother-in-law – Frank and Marilyn Edelin; friends – more friends than the family can list. Ed will be missed as much as he was loved. His mark was left with those left behind and not soon to be forgotten. Dorothy Heffernan
Dorothy Heffernan, 80, of Baytown, passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2008, at a hospital in Houston, following a brief illness. She was born in Houston on February 8, 1928, to James Weldon Eaves and Ruth Robertson. At the age of 14, Dorothy and her family moved to the Coady community of Baytown and she was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School. While at Lee, she met her sweetheart, future husband and business partner, Jimmy Heffernan, and they married on March 29, 1947. In 1948, Dorothy and Jimmy founded Jimmy’s Garage, now known at Jimmy’s Paint & Body. She oversaw the administrative side of Jimmy’s until 1990, when she retired from the family business. She and her family enjoyed spending time at the family ranch, Rancho De Dorthea, in Hondo, Texas. Dorothy always put her family first, but she also enjoyed playing Skip-Bo and 42 with her friends at Shady Creek Apartments where she spend the last seven years of her life.
Preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Jimmy, and her sister, Margie Siever, Dorothy is survived by a son, James C. Heffernan, of Houston; three daughters, Glenda Trawhon and husband, Colbert, of Baytown, Cindy Smith and Lisa Armstrong and husband, Terry, all of Crosby; six grandchildren, Jake Armstrong, Donnie Smith, Misty Radicioni, Jean-Colbert Trawhon, Todd Trawhon, and Troy Trawhon; 12 great grandchildren, McKenzie, Drake, Claire, Conner, Pate Trawhon, Lacy Trawhon, Brock, Jenna and Lauren Radicioni, Jonathan and Larissa Eversoll and Trey Smith; brother, J.W. Eaves and wife, Lillian of Navasota, TX; and sister, Nancy Johnson and husband, Wade of Pasadena; and numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family members.

William C. Van Derbeek
William C. Van Derbeek, 72, of Dayton, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 22, 2008. He was born on December 30, 1935, to Harold and Charlotte Van Derbeek in Fort Lee, New Jersey.
Willam retired after many years as a roofer. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harold, George, and Joseph; sisters, Charlotte and Peggy, he is survived by his wife, Melba Gail (Grayless) Van Derbeek; sons, Glenn Van Derbeek and wife, Patty, Gary Van Derbeek and wife, Kathy, all of Baytown; daughter, Donna Johnson, of Austin; grandson, John-athan Van Derbeek, of Magnolia; 7 step-grandchildren and 5 step-great grandchildren, all of Baytown.

Velma Jacobson
Velma Jacobson 93, of Baytown, Texas went to be with the Lord on December 18, 2008. Velma was born on December 9, 1915 in Crockett, Texas to L.E. and Asnett (Stephens) Mabe. When Velma wasn’t busy taking care of her family she enjoyed raising appaloosa horses, parakeets, Chihuahuas, working in her yard and most of all spending time with her family. Velma was a very kind and caring woman who will be missed by all that knew her.
Velma is preceded in death by her parents L.E and Asnett Mabe, loving husband Paul Jacobson, brothers Oscar, Edgar, Lonzie, Travis (Tex), Norman Bee, Edward, sisters; Dolly, Peggy, Lacy, Pauline and many other relatives and friends She is survived by her husband William Jack Blanks, loving niece Tinsy Cookie Vrana who took care of her with love and devotion during her illness. Sergio Martinez
On Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, God called Sergio Martinez to rest at the age of 49. A beloved son, brother, uncle and friend, he was loving to all who knew him. He was born on Oct. 18, 1959, in Corpus Christi, TX. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church for 40 years. He was a 1976 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School. Among the few things in life that he enjoyed, his greatest passion was listening to Mariachi music and dancing.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jose Angel Martinez and sister, Connie Martinez Chapa.
He is survived by his loving mother, Dominga Martinez; brothers, Juan Manuel Martinez and Gilbert Martinez and wife Nora; sisters, Guadalupe Bennett and husband Charles, Clara Martinez, Irma Munoz, Maria Reyna and Janie Sanchez. He leaves to cherish his memory, 32 nieces and nephews; 29 great nieces and nephews and two great-great nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Benjamin Guerra, Leo Chapa, Jr., Roy Martinez, Jr., Bernie Garcia, Jr., Jose Manuel Flores, David H. Sanchez, Jr., Joe Angel Guerra and Wesley Garcia.
