Florene Wells DeWitt
ARLINGTON -- Florene Wells DeWitt died Friday, June 20, 1997, at home.
Memorial service: her body was cremated and the ashes will be scattered among the Texas wildflowers at the National Wildflower Center, near Austin, Texas.
Memorials: The National Wildflower Center or to the Arlington Parks Department for the expansion of the butterfly garden at Veterans Park.
Florene Wells DeWitt was born Oct. 23, 1933, at the Wells family farm, located 35 miles northwest of Guymon, Okla. The family lived five years in Colorado, but she primarily grew up on the family farm and attended Anchor Dee Ranch School and Unity Community School. She graduated as a National Honor and National Forensic student from Guymon High School in 1951. Education had been a continuing and fun part of her life. She attended Salt City Business College of Hutchinson, Kan., the Floral Design School in Phoenix, Ariz., tailoring classes from John Wannamaker's in Philadelphia, Pa., and millinery design classes from Sak's Fifth Avenue in New York City. She studied art in Houston and Dallas and loved the national history classes everywhere the family lived. She painted porcelain and was an accomplished Texas wildflower artist and furniture designer.
Florene loved people, geography, religions, color and cultural dancing. She traveled much in Southeast Asia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Sumatra and Java. Florene was given four wonderful children, Lane DeWitt, Sabrina DeWitt Wimm, Cris DeWitt and Lorelle Ann DeWitt, who died of Cystic Fibrosis in 1966. She had been a spiritual being on a human journey. Florene was preceded in this earthly death by her parents, Ralph and Florence Wells, a brother, Lorin Wells, a daughter, Lorelle DeWitt, and a grandson, Arron Speer.
Survivors: Husband, Jerry of Arlington; son, Lane and his wife, Debbie DeWitt, of Bedford; daughter, Sabrina and her husband, Randy, with grandchildren, Veronica and Zane Wimm of Arlington; son, Cris and his wife, Leigh Ann, with grandson, Mason, and new granddaughter, Lorelle Ann DeWitt of Austin; and sister, Lilas Riley of Faulkton, S.D.

SANTO -- Etha Doyle, 90, an Avon salesperson for 30 years, died Thursday, June 19, 1997, at a Fort Worth care center.

Etha Doyle was born March 7, 1907, in Mambrino, Texas.

She graduated from Copan High School. She married Ira Dunlap Jr. in Seminole, Okla., July 12, 1942. They moved to Lubbock in May of 1946.
She was active in Junior League, the Well Baby Clinic and Meals on Wheels and had taught Sunday school at First United Methodist Church. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Nix, in 1994.

Edward Harty was born Jan. 27, 1932, in Vermont. Sarge was a resident of the Fort Worth area for 45 years. He was retired from the Air Force after serving for 20 years, including serving in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Air Force Sgt. Association.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Clower Harty.

FORT WORTH -- Herman W. Kennedy, 87, a retired calf buyer who had been with Swift & Co. for 33 years, died Wednesday, June 18, 1997, in Fort Worth.

Herman W. Kennedy was born Oct. 11, 1909, in Weatherford, and moved to Fort Worth shortly thereafter. He was a loving husband, father and DaDaw. He graduated from North Side High School in 1928 and served in the Cavalry in the early 1900s. In 1934, he married Hazel Sanders.
Mr. Kennedy retired from Swift and Company after 33 years as a calf buyer. He was a member of North Fort Worth Baptist Church and a 50-year member of Tarrant Lodge No. 942, A.F.&A.M.
He was preceded in death by his son, Dr. Herman W. Kennedy Jr., and a sister, Evelyn Burdine.
