Bradley Worbington
MESQUITE -- Bradley Worbington, 6, died Sunday, June 8, 1997.

Bradley Worbington was born Feb. 20, 1991, in Fort Worth. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Marvin and Frances Hogg.

Survivors: Parents, Arthur and Sheila Worbington; brother, Brandon Lee Worbington; grandparents, Alice and Lloyd Headrick, great-grandparents, Ray and Peggy Peck; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and other loving family and friends.

Bessie Mae Barefield

FORT WORTH -- Bessie Mae Barefield, 64, a nurse, died Monday, June 9, 1997, at a local hospital.

Funeral: 11 a.m. Friday at Right Way Baptist Church in Fort Worth. Burial: Cedar Hill Memorial Park. Visitation: 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Baker Funeral Home. Wake: 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Bessie Barefield was born Jan. 14, 1933, in Lake Providence, La. She was the daughter of P.H. and Willie Mae Henry Bennett. Bessie grew up and completed public school in Lake Providence. She was a member there of Star Bethel Baptist Church. She lived in San Diego, Calif., as a young woman and married L.V. Stokley. One son was born. She moved to Tucson, Ariz., where she worked as a nurse at St. Mary's Hospital. Later, she married Hayward T. Barefield Sr. Eight children were born to their union and three preceded their mother in death.

Bessie was an accomplished alto singer and sang with the Zionettes Gospel Group in Louisiana. She loved her family, church and helping others. She was well-known for assisting those who were less fortunate and who could often find no other source of assistance.

Survivors: Sons and daughters-in- law, Edward and Joe Ann Bennett of Houston, Louis B. and Tammie Stokley of Hampton, Va., Hayward T. Barefield and his wife, Gwendolyn, Perry and Lollie Barefield and Leonard H. and Lillie Barefield, all of Fort Worth; daughters, Georgia M. and her husband, Melvin D. Walker, Mary A. Barefield and Linda M. Barefield, all of Fort Worth, and Ernestine Bennett of Lake Providence, La.; brothers, Laygusta Williams of Lake Providence, La., Clinton Williams of Cleveland, Mich., Robert Bennett of Tucson, Ariz., and Solomon Newson of Lake Providence, La; sisters, Mary Etta Wallace of San Diego, Calif., and Helen Bruce of Lake Providence, La.; 34 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; special friend, Leon Redman; cousin, Augusta Bennett; aunts, Iretha Henry and Mistiller Bennett of Lake Providence, La.; and several generations of other family members and friends.

Ray Howard Bell
FORT WORTH -- Ray Howard Bell, 71, a retired district manager for Universal Life Insurance Company, died Wednesday, June 11, 1997, at a Fort Worth hospital.

Funeral: 11 a.m. Saturday at Morning Chapel CME Church. Burial: Cedar Hill Memorial Park. Visitation: 1 to 9 p.m. Friday at Baker Funeral Home. Wake: 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Ray Bell was born Feb. 12, 1926, in Pittsburg, Texas. The son of Robert and Ceola Bell, Ray grew up and attended public schools in Pittsburg, Texas. He completed courses of study in business administration in South Carolina. He started a career in insurance sales and service with Excelsior Life Insurance Company in 1953. After Universal Life Insurance Company acquired that Company, Bell advanced through the ranks to district manager before retirement after more than 35 years of service.

In 1947, he married Mable Johnson in Pittsburg, Texas. Three days later, they came to Fort Worth and shared 50 years of life together. They became members of Morning Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, where Mr. Bell was a trustee, member of the Board of Stewards and a Sunday School worker.

Mr. Bell headed the Fort Worth- Tarrant County Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People 18 years. He was a member of Rainbow Lodge 44, Free and Accepted Masons and past Grand Worthy Patron for Eastern Star.

Survivors: Wife, Mable Bell of Fort Worth; son, Andrew Bell of Washington D.C.; daughters, Patricia Bell of San Pedro, Calif., and La Shanda Davis of Fort Worth; brothers, Robert Bell Jr. and Raymond Bell, both of Fort Worth; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many other family members and friends.

James B. Bostick
ALEDO -- James Buchanan Bostick, 67, a retired civil servant, died Tuesday, June 10, 1997, at a Fort Worth hospital.

Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Friday at All Saints Episcopal Church, 125 S. Waco St. in Weatherford.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, James requested donations for the many caring services provided by Father Owen Henderson through All Saints Episcopal Church.

James Buchanan Bostick was a Texas boy born in Dothan on July 5, 1929. He graduated from Texas Western College (UTEP). During the course of his life, he served his country and community in many ways. He was a member of the Army and worked for the Texas and New Orleans Railroad and KROD Television in El Paso. This was followed by a distinguished career in civil service with the Department of the Army, the Department of Health, Education and Welfare and the Corps of Engineers before his retirement two years ago. He joyfully participated in community theater, both acting and directing, in El Paso, Fort Worth and Heidelberg, Germany, where he and his wife lived for several years.

Always gentle, compassionate and protective of his family, he spent 45 years cherishing his wife, Beverly Joy. With her, he shared hopes and dreams, love of history, music, theater, movies and wildflowers. Together, they raised four daughters and four sons to believe that life is most worthwhile when lived with love, friendship, courage and honor.

Additional survivors: He leaves his legacy to their children, Leah Kathleen Bostick, Melanie Elizabeth Snyder, Valerie Dorothea Mitchell, Garianne Wolff, Matthew Quentin Bostick, Jason Todd Bostick, James Andrew Bostick and Steven Warner Bostick. They in turn will continue this legacy through his grandchildren, Mandi Joy, Rachael Ayls, Joy Elizabeth, Robert James, Daniel Chase and Andrew Noack, as well as with his great-granddaughter, Danielle Elizabeth. In addition to his immediate family, James will be remembered with love by his sister, Eunice Bruner, and his brother, Teddy, and both their families, as well as by the family of his late brother, J.M., and extended family and friends.

His love of life and his humorous view of the struggles and concerns of man will remain with us always, as will his beliefs in the continuation of the human spirit beyond this plane.

BRIDGEPORT -- Ruth Carlton, 97, a homemaker, died Wednesday, June 11, 1997, at a Decatur hospital.

Ruth Carlton was born Oct. 14, 1899, in Bridgeport.

Survivors: Sons, Bill Carlton and Tom Carlton, both of Bridgeport; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Shirley Ann Carothers
FORT WORTH -- Shirley Ann Carothers, 52, a Bank One trust account clerk, died Monday, June 9, 1997, at a Fort Worth nursing center.

Funeral: 10 a.m. Thursday at Laurel Land Funeral Home of Fort Worth. Burial: Laurel Land Memorial Park.

Memorials: Community Hospice of Fort Worth.

Shirley Ann Carothers was born July 7, 1944, in Blum and had resided in Fort Worth most of her life. She was a member of Arlington Heights Baptist Church and was a Meals on Wheels volunteer. She enjoyed gardening and decorating.

Mrs. Carothers was preceded in death by two brothers, Nathan T. Workman in 1995 and Norris Workman in 1982.

Survivors: Her husband, Larry M. Carothers of Fort Worth; brothers, Ralph O. Workman Sr., Bill Workman and Dale Workman, all of Fort Worth; sister, Leola Nicholas of Fort Worth; and numerous nieces and nephews.

C.A. Dacus Jr.
FORT WORTH -- C.A. Dacus Jr., 71, retired vice president of operations for Sysco Food Systems, died Tuesday, June 10, 1997, at an area hospital.

C.A. Dacus Jr. was born Aug. 17, 1925, in Hermleigh. He was a member of Rosemont Church of Christ. He served in the Army 10th. Mountain Division during the Italy invasion of World War II. He married Patsy Ruth Ward June 12, 1948.

Survivors: Wife, Patsy Dacus of Fort Worth; sons, Mike Dacus of Navasota and Pat Dacus of Denton; daughter, Kathy Roden of Burleson; brother, Kenneth Dacus of Hermleigh; and five grandchildren.
