Homer Lee Kinnaird
FORT WORTH -- Homer Lee Kinnaird, 87, a retired office supply salesman, died Monday, June 9, 1997, at his home.

Memorial service: 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Benbrook.

Memorials: Community Hospice of Fort Worth.

Homer was a happy-go-lucky soul and was born Jan. 29, 1910, in Springtown, Texas. He was a typical farm boy, spending his young days hunting and fishing along the creek. He was a graduate of North Side High School. Among his early accomplishments was winning tennis tournaments in 1931, as the sport was only beginning to emerge. However, he went on to pursue his love of music by becoming a professional musician, playing with many of the well-known "Big Bands" of his time, such as Jimmy Dorsey and Pete Fountain, to name a few.

He was an employee of E.L. White Office Supply, Kisler Office Supply, Gulf Oil Co., Lucky Lady Oil Co. and the city of Benbrook. He was a master craftsman, having built several homes in the area, still in existence. He had a knack for designing and building most anything, working long hours right alongside his children and grandchildren. He spent 17 years in Colorado, loving the beauty of the lakes and mountainous landscapes, where he thrived on taking his grandchildren camping throughout the state.

After retiring, he returned to Texas and became active as a member of First Baptist Church of Benbrook. His love and talent for photography led to his role as church photographer. He was also a Senior Choir participant and enjoyed singing with his friends every Sunday. Because of his love of children, he became a school crossing guard for the city of Benbrook. He always looked forward to his favorite time of day -- walking the elementary children across the street. He took this responsibility very seriously. To him, each child was special. He held their hands and knew each one by name. He was a grandfather to all the kids on his assigned corner.

Not only was he a wonderful husband, devoted father, loving grandfather and adoring great-granddad, he developed a special reputation as the Chocolate Milk Shake Wizard! He stayed in the kitchen as long as it took, making batches of shakes 'til everyone had their fill.

Homer touched many lives with his warm, friendly personality, and this left an everlasting impression on everyone who crossed his path. Everything about him will be deeply missed.

His family would like to express a sincere "Thanks" to the many friends, for all their kindness, support and prayers during this difficult time.

Survivors: His beloved wife of 58 years, Dorothy; son and daughter-in- law, Robert and Jenni Kinnaird of Colorado; daughter, Jan Fisher of Fort Worth; daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Gene Buckner of Benbrook; sister, Leola Berger, and niece, Regina Grote of Arlington; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
